--- About this pattern ---
The Jaycee Butterfly Shawl is a triangle shawl that features beautiful butterflies. It's mainly made with double crochet stitches and chains. I've used self-striping yarn for a unique color fade effect. This butterfly shawl is part of my special series of patterns dedicated to extended family (people with the same rare tumor as I).
--- About this series of patterns ---
I was born with a (benign) tumor in my face. For more than 22 years my doctors did not know what it was exactly. In 2017 I did a second opinion and got diagnosed with an ultra rare condition. I immediately started searching for other people with this condition.
So far I have found about 40 people in the whole wide world. It’s amazing how many similarities we have and how much we look alike. Many of my upcoming patterns, including this one, will be special designs inspired by my new ‘extended family’. You can read more on my blog: wilmade.com/announcement-spec...

The 28 people that disliked don't have enough yarn for this beautiful project.
😂😂
When our mother passed away she wrote her own obituary. She told us kids when we see a butterfly to think of her. I’m making one of these for my three sisters for their birthday. And I have a similar pattern for blankets from our midwife series with Cynthia’s Joyful Creation and will do that for my brother. I have been looking for a butterfly 🦋 pattern. Glad I found yours.

I think this is one of the best if not the absolute best butterfly pattern out there right now. The way you do it is slightly different than the other ones I’ve seen and that slight difference makes absolutely all the difference. I think it came out beautiful and I am super super super excited to do the entire shawl! My oldest niece asked if she could have the Vela Flower Friend Shawl that I made for her birthday coming up and I know her younger sister is going to want one as well and I think this will be the perfect one to make for her! Plus I have some beautiful beautiful yarn cakes coming so I need an excuse to make more shawls and practice getting them perfect!
You design the most beautiful items. Thank you

Wanted to let Wilma know, as well as the rest of you crocheters that I just finished the Jaycee shawl! I had given up trying. What made the difference is the stitch counting. I bought a handy little "counter" that made the difference! Hooray!
I’ve done the Butterfly shawl, but I love this design! Bought the written pattern. Thank you

Just bought the pattern and some beautiful gradient yarn (purple to deep blue) for this shawl. Did a test on some scrap fingering yarn I had lying around to check my understanding of the pattern by following your video tutorial. Excellent! I think I'm ready to make my shawl!
Beautiful 😍
Thank you! I am going to try it!
This is beautiful, and more of a beginners project.
I'm going to use redheart landscapes, in the mountain range color way
Thanks for your tutorial, it’s a really beautiful pattern and in am making a shawl for my daughter with twister yarn, with a very nice colour change.

Thank you for a clear tutorial, really easy to follow. Have bought the pattern on Ravelry. I bought yarn to make a different pattern but I’m finding it really hard. Your pattern looks the perfect alternative as you have explained it so well :)
Thank you so much for your support, Jane! Really appreciate it 💗
Muy lindo 🥰
Thank you
Bellissimo 😍
I'm starting to make this beautiful shawl. Thank you for the pattern. I bought it on Etsy!
Thank you so much for your support, really appreciate it!
Oh my!😍
Very nice and useful 👍
I am doing the shawl but because I was used the hook 3.75 mm the rows finished more narrow but it not look bad. I will add more rows following your pattern until only I will has enough yarn for the tassels.😁
So beautiful 😃 I love your videos ❤️ You are so talented 😊 Also you have such a soothing voice it makes me feel relaxed while crocheting 😊
I was funded in my stash one yarn cake from ombre yarn ( 1200m/ 240g) in colors light pink in the center, medium pink, Lila , light blue, light green, finished in aquamarine. 👍😘😻
Thank you hun for a really pretty shawl. I was on your web page and just have to say you are a beautiful lady with a lovely heart and sole. Keep up with your awesome tutorials and patterns. God bless you hun and stay safe and healthy. Phyllis from Canada
This is beautiful. I love your patterns but I've returned to crochet after many years and find it difficult to keep to the counts. I think I need to do lots more practice pieces first and then I'll try one of your lovely shawl patterns. Which one to choose will be difficult because they are all so beautiful!
Wat een Prachtige Sjaal Wilma - ziet er Super Mooi uit - Goede en Duidelijk Uitgeleg en een Heel Mooi Design 🥰🌹
Dankjewel! ❤️
Thank you for making a video! I'm making this shawl for my daughter right now using the pattern on your site and the dtc part was so confusing until I saw this. 😅😊
This is so pretty! Im thinking of making this with Caron Cotton Cakes, but its too hot right now for crocheting, so it will have to wait.
💜💜💜💜💜
Wowww thats beautiful.. thnx for sharing.. Im crocheting it with Pink Yarn 😉
🌹Dru...
I love this pattern and your video screen showing the stitches are so clear. I am having a very difficult time hearing your instructions because the volume is so low. (I have my sound turned up all the way.) I just discovered your channel and hope to be able to explore new patterns with you. Thank you for this one.
Hello Wilma! I am hope you and your family doing well in this crazy situation in the 🌎. The shawl is beautiful and my next project. Please take care of yourself. 👋🇺🇸🙏😇😷💖😻🌺
I’m going to use redheart hombre Rose. I’m also using a “J” hook. Will send pictures after completion
I am making this using Hobbii Dahlia yarn. It is a 2 fine yarn, but it is turning out beautifully. Will share a picture when done.
Good tutorials, thank you, I will try it
Qué lindo todo lo que haces,!!!!!! En Español Español tienes tutoriales,!!!! Saludos desde Argentina
Looks lovely! Would you ever consider making the butterfly stitch in a rounded shawl pattern or maybe a five pointed shawl, or a poncho?
Thank you. Very beautiful. Do you block your projects? Will go buy the pattern!
I'd love to b able to do this one in bernat crushed velvet wool
I love your patterns and I love this shawl!
But on the written pattern is it possible that row 6 should have been back loop only dc and on row 9 I think there's a chain two left out right after double treble in the 4th double crochet from row 6?
Keep up the beautiful patterns and I can tell you have a beautiful heart :-)
Me gustan mucho has traducción en español te lo agradecería saludos desde CA
Are you dutch? Amazing work 👏👏👏
I am attempting to make this shawl for a wedding all in white. Where the "body" of the butterfly is, I am placing a pearl bead. Your tutorial helps alot! One question, which side is the front of the shawl?
That sounds amazing! You can easily see the front, it has more texture than the back (ribbles created by front post double crochet stitches).
@@WilmaWestenberg thank you. I am having trouble counting the stitches. Let me ask, are the two center chains the ONLY stitches not counted?
Can I make this with more than two cakes of yarn if I do the repeat? My yarn is a 2 ply fine ?
Can this pattern be worked in a rectangular shawl. I love the stitch.
Thank you for your sharing. I’ve already done. It’s so beautiful.
On my first repeat of stitches, in row 7 should the butterfly go right to the centre point again or is there extra stitches to add?
I am also facing the same problem did you find any solution to it ?
Me too
I bought the pattern, Ive counted and it appears correct but on the second set/rows of butterflies Im only getting 4 per side and not 5 like yours. Not sure what Im getting wrong?
I have started this shawl 3 times the numbers don’t come out right, anyone else having trouble.
First repeat of row 7
I started this project don't know how many times, was looking at the video more than once trying to figure out the stitches. All is good so far but i don't understand the following 1dc in next tr, i looked at the video but i still don't understand and it is going fast, hard to see how to do the above. I would really appreciate a response and even just putting a small video for this stich. Thank you
Bernice Landry. On the upper corner you have three dots. click there and control the speed on the video. It help me a lot.
If i wanted this rectangular, what is the multiple please?
What weight in us is the yarn you used i have its a wrap and I'm wondering if it's the same weight
