La polémica marcha del astro holandés al eterno rival fue fruto de una venganza. El entonces presidente ajacied, Tom Harmsen, no quiso renovar el contrato a Cruyff alegando que a sus 37 años ya estaba acabado. Al flaco no le sentaron nada bien las palabras del mandatario y, despechado, decidió marcharse al Feyenoord, el eterno rival de su Ajax. .
Con Cruyff como líder indiscutible, el Feyenoord ganó la Eredivise después de 10 años y también conquistó la Copa de Holanda. En De Kuip coincidió con un jovencísimo Ruud Gullit, que ya apuntaba maneras.
En la que fue su última temporada como profesional Johan Cruyff fue elegido mejor jugador de la Eredivise (anotó 11 goles en 30 partidos), despidiéndose del fútbol de manera triunfal.

I’ve been looking him up recently since I’m not old enough to have witnessed him play. But he has had a huge influence on one of my Idols Michael Laudrup and Barcelona and football in general that I felt compelled to look him up. What a player.

He had a bust up with ajax management I think they didn't offer him contract which upset him very much and thus he went to rivals feynoord where young gullit was making a name for himself. Both made crazy combo they dominated the league and won the title. Never mess with the king who won titles for you. This is man here is the best thing ever happened to football. How he contributed as a player and coach is very inspiring ❤. Always in our memories #johancruiff❤️💙

Scored over 400 goals as a midfielder, that's just crazy. Also is one of the smoothest and best dribblers I've seen, with amazing technical ability. For me he's top 3 greatest ever.

I wish he would have stayed just two more years. He would have brought Van Basten, Koeman, Rijkard and Gulit to the level of world champions. He would have faced Maradona. They won the EURO in just two years later.
