First off, this is an outstanding compilation of Cruijff's greatest moments that truly do justice to the greatness of a football phenomenon that Johan Cruijff was! Maybe, the most thorough tribute ever shared on social media for any footballer ever!
I witnessed the goals Cruyff scored against Rangers in the first-ever Supercup final. Unbelievable display of skill, control and pace. A possible candidate for the best footballer ever.
A player that was 40 years ahead in time, his contribution changed the game forever. So sad he didn't win the world cup, but he was world champion with Ajax, making the team one of the top 10 teams of the world even today. 20 years of pure magic, in and out the field, because he was an amazing coach as well, winning Barcelona's first European Cup. The finest player Europe has ever produced. Lots of these clips are from his time in Feyenoord when he was 35/36/37. He was still firmly among the worlds best players.
Amazing how he is two-footed. Look at him pass, dribble, score, with both left and right just as easy. That's so unique and that wholesomeness is what makes him so great.
You can't even appreciate how unbelievable he was by watching video. I saw him play live in a FIFA all-star match around 1978, and it was incredible to see how he glided and floated around the 'entire' pitch...I mean every inch of it...effortlessly! He made the other players look like they were running in molasses while he was on ice skates. And these were the best players in the world!
I was a kid growing up in Cruyff's peak 1970s era & he's without doubt the best European player I've ever seen. His 1974 world cup performances have never been topped by any European player in a World Cup I've seen. I've seen Zidane at world cups. He only turned it on for a couple of matches at best & was carried by a strong French team in the other games were he was just ok. Cruyff was top gear in literally ever match at that 74 world cup. At club level he was outstanding, winning three European Cups with Ajax & three ballon d'Or 's. He played everywhere during a game, from defensive areas, on the wings, center midfield dictating play & in the final third getting onto the end of chances in the opposing box. He was fast, with a terrific turn of pace, with fast close control dribbling skills. He could tackle really well. Head really well. Was brilliantly two footed, which enabled him to pass, cross, shoot accurately with either feet & he had fantastic vision, to pick up players runs, playing them in, with beautifully crafted, weighted passes or pick up runs into dangerous areas. He could play anywhere on a pitch. Just a awesome total footballer like Pelé & Di Stéfano. From the players I've seen in the last 20 years. It's only Messi I'd put in those players bracket. He's definitely skill wise & technically wise, up there with Pelé, Di Stéfano, Cruyff, Maradona.
I disagree, Messi lacks variety and inventiveness and certain leadership qualities that the above have, I would add Ronaldinho instead and Garincha too, to that list .
@@DylanFowler Not sure what you mean that he lacks " variety " & " inventiveness " . To the contrary. At his peak years, he was literally unplayable in unbelievable narrow space's. Demonstrating unbelievable close controls, sharp changes of directions & clever feints. Ronaldinho only had between 2004 to 2006, where he played at a top ballon d'Or winning levels. Messi from 2008 to 2019 played at ballon d'Or winning levels. That's a big difference. With Garrincha, I don't think he'd cut it today. Managers study players game & area's they like to pop into. Garrincha always did that jockey to the outside of the defender move. His athleticism wasn't that great. The games I've seen off him on UA-cam. His crossing & shooting was erractic by modern standards . George Best was superior to him. He played the wide positions, more like a modern player. Starting off from wide right or left, cutting in side or outside with unpredictable, jinking movements, with both feet.
@TheGiorgi7 Nope! Show me a better world cup tournament performance from a European player, than Cruijff 1974 world cup escapades? Dominated the European Cup in the early 1970s, winning it three times in a row. Won the ballon d'Or three times. Went from the best club side in the world at the time Ajax in 1973, to a second from bottom struggling Barcelona side, that hadn't won anything in years & fired them to the league title. Complete as a player, that played all over the pitch, with world class efficency. Whether defending, tackling, passing, dribbling, heading, shooting. Brilliantly ambidextrous. Backed up with superb acceleration, that enabled him to leave a string of defenders in his wake. Superb, fast, reactionary speeds of thought, to apply the right solutions to most given situations. All of the above, performed with optimized athleticism. His attributes where as complete as Pelé & Di Stéfano. You sound like a millenniel kid, so you weren't around when he played. I was & I've seen all of the great players since & post his era.
@TheGiorgi7 Your top seven has players that never won a world cup - Messi, Ronaldo 7. And players that never won a European Cup /Champions League - Maradona, Ronaldo 9. Messi as won neither Copa America or World Cup. So he's barren regarding winning international trophies for his country like Cruijff, so your argument holds no merit, as it clearly contradicts itself.
The best player that ever was. The moments that stand out are countless but how he humiliated England at an England-Holland friendly at Wembley in '77 and a standing ovation he got from Aston Villafans at a Villa vs Barcelona game are to me the best moments
Cruyff was known as the master when he was playing. He was the perfect example of a player who was always in control, always deliberate, always conducting the games, and knew it.
I am a young player who would probably take a new modern play as my inspiration but no one can stop me from loving the best play ever rest in peace Johan we all love ☝🏽☝🏽
In this video you 'just' see his skills, which were awesome. Even more important was his vision on football and how he changed the game by inventing total football with Ajax and the national Dutch team and tiki taka in Barcelona: attacking, forechecking, putting pressure on your opponent's half, and demanding footballers to be able to play in different positions on the pitch. No one ever had these revolutionairy ideas.
You guys can watch nearly every big ajax/holland era match in full lenght on youtube.. you cannot describe players, with impact like him or beckenbauer, with highlight videos! Same phenomen with zidane
I was fortunate to watch Cruyff in Washington DC playing for Diplomats NASL team while I was a young aspiring soccer player. Even at the end of his career, aging and injured at times, Johan could still silence the crowds with his brilliance on the pitch. So cool so see some of those old clips here!
My favorite player of all time , a genius in a team of superstars . Given how little football was filmed back then just imagine some of the things he did when there were no cameras present
The original modern footballer. You can see alot of what he does in Messi (Obviously Messi made it completely his own) but you can see the influence Cruyff has had on tge way Barca (Used) to raise it's youth squads.
I really like this legend. Johan Cruyff represetnted art on the surface of green grass . He was so flamboyan and charismatic made everybody on the field and in the stand respected him most. On an interview he told the reporter that he used to play fottball together with his teammates in Ajax and 1974 Dutch legendary team with the word "love", and let the people come to the stadiium to enjoy watching beautiful game. To win the game is important but to win people heart is the most important things. Cruyff has performed modernity since he came to the pitch for the first time and brought the world a new style of playing football as a combination of sport, entertainment dan glory. Most of football fans believe that Hendrik Johannes Cruyff is the greatest European Football player of all time dispite being unlucky not to win 1974 FIFA World Cup. His brilliant mind and charisma have made Barcelona as one of the very best football club in the history of World Soccer without any doubt since first time he managed the Catalan team and leave us a legendary Barca's style of playing with tiki taka that also made very big impact for Spanish National Team who won three prestigous footbal tournament in a row; European Cup 2008, World Cup 2010 and again European Cup 2012. Thanks Johan for what you have done in footbal. We will always miss you.
Up there with the greatest for me - I watched him as manager of Barca once doing an interview and he effortlessly moved across five languages - not just a footballer, a super intelligent thinker too.
I was a kid in 74 when they lose against West Germany and I spent all the summer representing the game in our holiday house and scoring goals for Nederland between two doors of the corridor [I'm not Dutch], I loved so much that team specially Johan
Thank you for this brilliant video. Being Dutch i grew up with stories of how much better than everyone else he was. However all i ever got to see was slow motion close ups with some classical music. Which only works if you already have some memory of him during his playing days. This shows what he was actually capable of and it makes me understand what all those old Dutchies were always talking about. Truly one of the all time greats
The Gospel of Johan "If you play for ball possession you don't have to defend. Cause there is only one ball." "Experience. You’ve either got it or you don't." "The average of a team is determined by its weakest player." "If you give Italians one opportunity, they score two goals" "I am seldom in error, because I find it difficult to make mistakes." "The difference between right and wrong is often no more than five meters." "The simpler the better, because the fewer options you give to a player, the higher the chance that he will be doing the right thing." "I absolutely hate a player that moves, but doesn't know where to." "People say life is a flow. That's correct. When I tried to spit against the wind recently, it landed in my own face." "We did fantastic, simply because we couldn't do any better!" "Well, the ball has to go between those two posts. As a minimum." "Play the game as it should be played. Football is made for the spectators. They most enjoy seeing an attack, so you have to attack." "Am I dictatorial? No, I'm not, but the players have to do what I say." "I don't believe, because I'm not a believer, but I do think that there is something else and therefore I believe in the thing that I think is there" "Well, if you understood football, YOU would be sitting here" "I have got to be able to trust the people in my team, and they have to challenge me. I have no use for brownnosers" “I'm still convinced that the way that I do it is how it has to be done, otherwise I wouldn't be doing it.” "If you see a player sprint, then he has started too late" (at Barcelona) “Before the match 22 players are praying, I never understood that. If there was a God and he would treat everyone equal, every match would end up a draw" "We started searching for the victory and then you always automatically find it.” "I wasn't there just like that when I was 17, falling out of the sky! I was there already when I was 14, stealing the bikes of Ajax' first team. I didn't look up to them, I knew I was going to be one of them, sooner or later." "Ajax is a fantastic club! If you make sure that you're in charge, otherwise it is impossible to work there" "I always take decisions myself. If at Ajax they tell me "You're too old" then I say "You don't decide that, that's my decision" "I've got an office in Barcelona. But you'll never find me there, cause I don't like paper." "Italians? They can not win from you. But you CAN loose from them." "Often something has to happen, before something happens" “Playing football is very simple. But playing simple football is the hardest thing there is.” "I love working! As long as it is work that I love ..." (on TV football analysis) "When I come home from a TV talk show, Danny (wife) always asks "what did you say?". Then I reply "For the life of me, I can't remember" "I'm always against everything. Until I take a decision, then I'm in favor of it. Seems logical to me ..." "A rich club? I've never seen a bag of money score a goal" "It's better to go down with your own vision, then with the vision of somebody else" "First point, there is only one ball so you've got to have that one, but the essence is: what are you then going to do with that ball?" (at Barcelona) "Now there is unity, everybody does what I'm asking for. That's because they're not Dutchmen, that always say as soon as I take a breath 'Yes, but ...' ” "The time that I carried money is long behind me. I always bring my name and my face." "Misfortune is what you get with a negative attitude and luck is what you get with a positive attitude” "What do you prefer? One good elevensome or eleven good onesomes?" "You're not getting it? Well, if I'd wanted you to understand it, I would have explained it better" "The dot has to be put there on the i where it belongs!" "If you're not there somewhere, then you are either too early or you are too late." "People have to drive faster. Then they are quicker off the roads and there are fewer traffic jams.” "If I ask you to show what you can do, you will show me. But then I also know what you can not do, because you're not showing me that." "Money that you earn after your 30th birthday is what you save. What you earn before is what you spend." @@abdullahjamal4944 Has nothing to do with prices. The soccer we play today is due to nr14. Watch the documentaries, perhaps its before you time. Check total football, cr7 or Messi wouldnt even exist if it wasnt for nr14. He change soccer for ever. Not only as player he was way and way ahead, but also as a coach. Almost everybody copied his play as what we now see at Barcelona and Ajax, vision and logic. Pele, Maradona are good players but didnt have it all.
He looks like a pro playing against amateurs or simply divers that cant catch him. Sure they were other days l, but cant contest the skill and pure talent. If you look closely at Ronaldo or Messi videos in their prime they look exacly the same. Like really pro against amateurs. The difference is the same, the only thing i saw Cruyff do more is the defensive/recovery. Thats were he was above our stars today, Indeed a complete footballer. Can only imagine what he would have done in out days with no smoking strict regime, nutritions, training and a complete stars team like we have in out days..
Don;t forget that footballers nowadays play on pitches that resemble snooker tables. Many pitches in Cruyffs day, particularly in winter, were like muddy bobbly ploughed fields.
@@johnnkurunziza5012 However, mostly with the mud/ploughed field, the first touch is to bring ball under control. Players these days don't even have to consider that.
Not just one or the greatest players in the history of the game but also its most influential manager. Cruyff changed football as a player and a manager. His legacy is throughout coaching, academies and the major leagues. His acolytes are are a passionate church of aesthetically beautiful football.
Beautiful video! Thank you very much. Imagine how good Johan would have been with the training and everything else the players these days get... Johan was the perfect athlete with unprecedented vision and fabulous technique.
His career would be longer and he wpuld have been able to play more matches in a year and he would recover from injuries far morr quickly. He wouldn't be faster or a better player, that's just a myth. But he would dominate todays low IQ no tackling football effortlessly.
I'm 20 years old and it's sad realize how fast life goes by. In these images we see a boy. Not long ago he was a boy, a boy who became a legend, and already died. But Cruyff's legacy is perpetual. ❤️

Yes like maradona
I am a young player who would probably take a new modern play as my inspiration but no one can stop me from loving the best play ever rest in peace Johan we all love ☝🏽☝🏽
No wonder he was called Flying Dutchman. He was so skillful, fast and flexible, seems flying in the soccer field!
the most complete player ever i think.I didnt see him playing but only from vids can understand how great he was.
He did not just dribble past defenders he left them for dead. He had everything. An absolute genius.
Immense Player! One of the few players who can be 'genuinly' be named 'one of the best in world football' past and present!

The Mastermind of one of the greatest teams that ever existed ... R.I.P. Johan

Bro I thought I've seen all footage of Johan, but you've got even more! Thank you so much for keeping the legend alive with this rare footage!!!!
Such a modern player: you could see what football was to be like in the following 20 years just
by looking at his play.
THE FATHER OF TIKI TAKA, FC BARCELONA HAVE CONGRATS HIM FOR EVERYTHING!
The goal at 1:33 - seriously! The video brilliantly shows his phenomenal control and acceleration. One of the greatest ever.
True footballing brilliance R.I.P Johan Cruyff
Great compilation. Cruyff was the ultimate footballer. Wish I'd seen more of him.
Genius. A footballing artist. Beautiful to watch.
Grazie Mati, fantastic vid.
We miss him every day the absolute GOAT
He seems faster, more skilful, stronger and more tactically aware than anyone else on the pitch. Boss.

@@adjeiboateng6720 Not even near to what nr 14 has accomplished.
@@bobkeul7682 who is nr 14 and if you mean cruyff cr7 has way more trophies and more international trophies
@@abdullahjamal4944 Has nothing to do with prices.
Mate it’s called football and everybody knows Messi and cr7 is better
@@michaelcollins3091 the thing with the mud is if you have good technique it can be an advantage because the defenders can slip more
@@johnnkurunziza5012 However, mostly with the mud/ploughed field, the first touch is to bring ball under control. Players these days don't even have to consider that.
His acceleration, and balance with it, was unbelievable.
Not just one or the greatest players in the history of the game but also its most influential manager. Cruyff changed football as a player and a manager. His legacy is throughout coaching, academies and the major leagues. His acolytes are are a passionate church of aesthetically beautiful football.
Beast.. really dominant player.. fast, physical & technical 👏🏼👏🏼
Cruyff was a danger to the football world because everything he had was deadly
Dribbling, speed, goal scoring etc....
One of football's most esteemed icons.
He would left a lot of destruction on teams on his wake.
I'm 20 years old and it's sad realize how fast life goes by. In these images we see a boy. Not long ago he was a boy, a boy who became a legend, and already died.
But Cruyff's legacy is perpetual. ❤️
So right mate

His ability to go through 3-4 players with just one push is just mind blowing 🤯
Few players have defined there clubs such as Alfredo di Stefano for REAL MADRID,Maradona for NAPOLI,and Johan Crujff for both AJAX and BARCELONA.
You can't compare Di Stefano with Maradona and Cruyff. All the respect for Di Stefano but the others two are genius, are football.
