Since you invited comments from other tuners or ECU engineers, a few comments without any commercial relationship with 034 or Jackal. These are meant to be constructive and progress the maturity of VAG tuning offerings which are still to this day of highly variable quality. Overall I have to say I agree with many of the points, with some qualifications. 1. Knock sensitivity I also don't go around collecting and analyzing many competitor tunes, but every time I have I'm also dismayed to see heavy offsets or multipliers of knock noise factor tables in large parts or entire tables from multiple providers to the point where I consider it is unfortunately the default of most VAG tuners including in multiple of the competitors you name where you don't seem to think this is an issue. It is everywhere. Furthermore, most do it on engines that I know do not false knock when given adequate octane in the specs the tunes are designed for. We have tested that the OEM knock noise factors in some Bosch ECUs can be left stock whilst adding over 100 HP per cylinder (accepting that torque is more relevant than power here) with good timing and EGT with E85, yet many well known tuners by default adding a fraction of this power modify the noise tables. This is also ECU architecture specific, but when noise factors are relatively insensitive to load in OEM tunes, that is a giveaway to the nature that these are usually adaptive and relative, not absolute. In other words, raising them at all unless there is proven false knock that is not responsive to octane is actually massively heavy handed and it isn't often a justification to do so simply because there is more boost or the load is increased. Not always, but if this was the starting point for VAG tuning, many engines would be saved as the failure rates with tuning are an order of magnitude too high and our data suggests that it is related primarily to this issue, followed by: not running excessive boost, not running lean and not stretching inadequate fuel systems. I think the video accepts too easily that mangling knock noise factors without cylinder pressure monitoring (which is how Bosch for example recommend they are setup, accepting the video is about a Continental/Siemens ECU) is justifiable at all when the default should be that it isn't necessary at all. 2. Limits I also prefer minimal, necessary, targeted and justifiable interventions to limits, but it can be legitimate to push some limits out of the way. Even on similar engines, OEM calibrations may have similar tables with different limits pushed out of the way because there are so many of them that can be used to do a similar thing, and this occurs for torque, load and pressure. However, there needs to be a cohesive strategy that protects the driver and components. Without full context, a criticism of individual tables may be considered a hatchet job, or it may be a fair criticism. 3. EGT/lambda Similar to limits, depending on whether there are real EGT sensors and how many modifications are on the vehicle, there are multiple valid strategies, some of which are more fixed/deterministic than others. What matters is controlling the real EGT and protecting components in all possible circumstances. Whilst acknowledging that you state you are not perfect and also improving, your company has richened up some tunes and has raised multiple eyebrows about how lean some lambdas have been at high boost levels, along with various claims of engine damage. 4. Torque scaling Agree on most points about torque scaling, except that any ECU from the last 25 years actually has ample computational power to inverse lookup to allow one translation map between torque and load, and any Tricore over 150MHz can laugh at the computation. BMW do it regularly. It is syntactic sugar since any competent tuner should be able to make a mathematical inverse between a pair of tables. 5. Patches to code German ECUs tend to need fewer application software patches to overcome limits than Japanese, but usually there are one or two that are useful in relation to limits to allow proper scaling and correct/easier calibration as you point out. These and their development as well as the tools to properly disassemble code and log RAM are by no means unique to one company, and are also sometimes traded through file services or tuning products, but I would agree that most file service fodder uses kludges in this and many other areas.
Real engineers, thanks for making this it’s as detailed as nefmoto. Love it! -- Forgot to mention that the fact 034 is willing to share and compare and contrast part of their calibration shows that the correct calibration is not just plugging numbers in. It’s actually requiring study and effort and balancing applied principles in tuning to satisfy the needs of all customers on this platform. I’ve earned so much knowledge and experience tuning as a hobbyist and I give these guys full respect for doing this. I tuned my B6 A4 1.8T and it took me 5 years to read the Bosch Function Book (FR) and apply the correct strategies to tune my built motor. I can go on and on, I hope that 034 is a company I select in the future for my future Audi. I went with IE for my 3.0T B8 S4. If they did this video some years ago I would have went 034.
Very interesting finds here. Me and my friend have had 034 ecu and tcu tuning and tried out jackals as well, the jackal tcu tune made my dsg start slipping to the point I could no longer drive it. Had the dealer preform a dsg adaptation along with dsg service with no luck fixing the issue. My friend who also went with jackals ecu and tcu file ended up having piston failure after few months after switching to jackal. I can’t 100% say that this is because of jackals files. but just to add to the point, these b8.5 s4’s were both fully maintained ahead of receiving these tune files and had no issues prior to tuning.
@@ByteSizedSocietyabsolutely. The tcu file I originally had from jackal when they first became “Popular” was fine and did not cause any issues. But once they came out with their updated tcu file, I flashed it and immediately after going down a main road experienced terrible shifting and slipping/gear slamming issues. I emailed them back and forth for over a week and followed all of their recommendations and nothing helped. My friends b8.5 s4 was operating beautifully with 034 tuning before trying out jackal. That being said, I wouldn’t let a jackal tune near any vehicle I own that they offer a tune for.

Excellent data driven approach with real world examples by 034. I'm seeing Jackal users accepting the bypassed safety, but justify it by saying "where are all of the blown motors?", "It can't be that unsafe", or "Jackal wouldn't exist if wasn't safe". All of which are patently ridiculous and fallacious statements to make. Appreciate 034's willingness to share this information publicly and continue to be a leader for the B8 platform and other platforms.
I watched this after becoming aware of the drama via B8 groups on FB. Obviously you have your own opinions and want to sell your own product, but everything you say here is reasoned and backed up with data or evidence. I actually sold my (stock tune) S4 a couple of months ago, so have no bias here, I just appreciate your approach.
Anyone that would take advice from DJP deserves what they get. My 12 year old has forgot more about cars then he knows. He used to be an APR Fanboy then latched on to Jackal's nutz.
So glad you guys did this. Great format and data as always. I hope you don't have to do many more under these types of circumstances but I think we all know this is the world we live in. Nice job!
Currently a jackal user on my 14 s4 and tbh its been very boring. The car feels quick but I’ve also had very very weird fuel cut issues and almost seem to be tune related. I have contemplating the switch but spending the money to tune my car again and I’m not sure if I’m going to like the new tune is a little nerve wracking. I don't feel sorry for Jackal (personally). From what I've seen, they started this "fight". Somebody has to lose and I for one am throughly convinced that 034 is doing things the right way, vs the risky and wrong way. Just MHO....
@@quadzilla69r IF you should feel sorry for anyone it's Jackal customers. Jackal just did a lazy mans tune with zero safeguards. They're whats wrong with tuning.
I’ve had them try to just fix a small little issue and they had no idea what was going on. I had to do four different logs and four different poles and they still have not figured out what the issue is.
Damn, 034 came with receipts. Not sure how Jackal will respond to this, i don't want to be too quick to judge, but this doesn't look good. Whether Jackal are good tunes or not, this only re-enforces why i chose 034. They know their shit.
I like how ppl are calling an issue normal Just because it's so common. Reminds me of the b7 how everyone says drinking jugs of oil is normal when ppl ask about the issue. Noooo common and neglected is not the same definition as normal or ok.
"Jackal"? More like "Mad Max"! Maybe there's room on the market for this kind of tune, "We bring more fire to your engine." If you're seeking to blow your car up, if that's what you want, this seems like a good way to do it, if their product really does max out supercharger pressure ratios. Wow that's intuitively frightening.
Why would you purchase a tune that doesn’t have YEARS of platform experience. Jackal might put out the power but for longevity of your vehicle life is dramatically in jeopardy!
Nate looks pissed. usually a mild mannered dude. he takes pride in his work and is defending his hard work compared to someone taking short cuts. You go Nate!!!! Thanks 034 for all your great products across so many platforms.
Fact check em’ let em know. Your turbo intake inlet upgrades, & probably some more products are on back order because your products work, in high demand & are great!!!
There are three companies I trust. Integrated Engineering, USP, and 034 Motorsports. Three great companies that are actually enthusiasts who are all credible in what they do.
Personally I feel you all have the BEST products for our cars. I see no point in possibly getting a couple of more HP if the safety systems are not in play and it could end really bad for me.
*laughs in manual* Seriously though even though I have an IE tune I love these vids. Have a mate with an 034 B8 tune and I really like the ongoing work and support you guys put in. Almost tempted to switch over.. It's a pity you had to make this video but definitely necessary to inform people about their tuning choices. If I was starting again I'd go 034 all day. Pity you don't do BMW tunes too! Keep it up chaps!
i dont have either tunes so i have no skin in the game, but I've seen the way Jackal conducts themselves..... If that's how they conduct their business, then I'm not sure Id trust them fully as a tuner. just my opinion
wow, i’ve always loved 034 products as all the hardware i run on my car is 034 but went tuned through jackal, really disappointed to see this, have you guys looked at any of their zf8 tuning?
Cant wait for my tune from 034 on my Audi Q8, hopefully your company cracks the code on my ECU when I send it in as I am completely sold on your approach and honesty!
I mentioned this on audizine and got laughed at for saying that i would never consider a company with such a dark name and ancient diety as their logo. They made fun of me for being a bible thumper.
Owner is on vacation I believe. But the jackal tune users are running a massive smear campaign at the moment calling out 034 saying they make people who blow motors on 034 software sign NDA’s and Mario chimed in with pics of a couple boxes of b9 pistons he claims came out of 034 cars but obviously in typical Mario fashion doesn’t have a lick of proof to back up the claims. Pistons prob came out of his b9 he blew up a few times. Since jackal dropped their tune for the 3.0tfsi it’s been a shi*show of trash talk about how their cars are 1/10 faster in the 1/4 than tuner __________. But they had a real hard on for 034 for some reason. While I don’t think a “kill shot” piece like this is always warranted.. I think it was absolutely warranted in this case. 034 came to the batters box not only with a well laid out presentation but proof to back up what they said.. yet even today the forums are still loaded with jackal deniers. Hopefully they get their shi* together.
Thank you for doing this ! I admire your willingness to do this comparison ....it must have taken a lot of time and something that you likely didn't want to have to do !
Hmm 🤔 So, tuning with Jackal is like when you put some drastically modified, pirated lite version of Windows on an old computer, you’re searching the web and then you realize, something ain’t right. Some dude 6,000 miles away is about to control my half assed smart home, isn’t he.
Thank you guys for explaining and shining light on the discrepancies. Now just anxiously waiting for you 4M Q7 tunes. 😅 I would be happy to help beta test with you as well.
What program is being used to create the tables and graphs for each of the explanations? I’m currently running a 93 octane stage 1 jackal tune on my Audi A6, but I would love to use whatever program this is to confirm myself that these safety features have been disabled.
there are a few free programs that will first let you extract and then other programs that will allow you to view the files, but you would still need stock map extractions to compare them with. This isn't the most consumer/user friendly thing so we don't have a great recommendation for what to use, but we hope that other tuners decide to utilize their own tools to corroborate our evidence. The theme of this entire video is that there's nothing to gain in lying, the truth always comes out. We showed the truth in this video with the raw data and evidence to back it up, and have no reason to falsify or lie in the video due to the exact reason we made the video.
The conclusion section actually an important point to call out unitronic/IE/APR that bring the environment back. Maybe 034 official, or folks should share to those companies’ principles
Just to point out, you guys didn't give any proof that these pictures are from Jackal file, it's just a picture that you can edit in 10 sec. What's the point of making so much effort and time if you have ZERO proof that anything you guys say is true. Are you guys think everyone will just belief You without any proof? I really don't get it, it's just pictures that you can edit in 10sec and that is the proof? Wow... I'm not saying it's fake, I'm just pointing out that this video is worthless it's just talking without any proof to back what you guys say.
You could also be a bot, so maybe we shouldn't take what you say seriously either? As you said, this was a lot of work so we would not do it if the information was false and could be easily discredited. Jackal could easily come out and say they were fake and prove it, so we worked hard to make sure everything in this piece was truthful and accurate and defensible, and yes, these are actual Jackal tuning maps, we absolutely didn't need to spin this to be any worse than it was.
If that really occurred, the liability attached with that would be a massive "deceptive misrepresentation," which would ultimately destroy 034's credibility in the process. The likelihood of that would be low, given how easy Jackal could prove that in court. That would be 034 opting to commit company suicide - 034 has a track record of being a cautious company that makes quality products, and I very much doubt they would be that reckless. I don't blindly trust companies, and neither should you; but, you have to understand that in releasing a video like this that 034 has to have their material facts straight. All videos on UA-cam are edited together, does that mean you trust nothing?
This seems like a high bar for proof. I (as someone in the industry) highly, highly doubt a company like 034 Motorsports would ever photoshop or otherwise falsify data like this to smear another company. 034 has a VERY good reputation in the industry, and there’s no reason from them to risk destroying that by making false claims against smaller tuning companies like Jackal
Thank you for the video. I never even consider jackal. I think the name is negative and low vibration. The truth always prevails. Thank you very much again 🇺🇸🇺🇸 I just purchase a 2016 SQ5. I’ve been using i.e. but I look forward to 034 and I think that’s when I can use the anti-lag and have a nice pops and fireworks out of the exhaust. Thank you for all your hard work jackal will come and go.🔥 Just like old Joe Biden Trump 2024

@54:00 wow it's incredible how much the clutches are slipping for that S4. Almost like you're driving on ice, but you're not right?
034 motor sports: Ima end this man's whole career
I don't feel sorry for Jackal (personally). From what I've seen, they started this "fight". Somebody has to lose and I for one am throughly convinced that 034 is doing things the right way, vs the risky and wrong way. Just MHO....
@@quadzilla69r IF you should feel sorry for anyone it's Jackal customers. Jackal just did a lazy mans tune with zero safeguards. They're whats wrong with tuning.
🎤 Mic Dropped, thanks for the education it was interesting. Hope you didn't give up too much sauce though.
034's products and transparency are industry leading. Keep up the great work guys.
I’ve had them try to just fix a small little issue and they had no idea what was going on. I had to do four different logs and four different poles and they still have not figured out what the issue is.
What were the issues? Amax not engaging? Car not pulling hard up top?
Damn, 034 came with receipts. Not sure how Jackal will respond to this, i don't want to be too quick to judge, but this doesn't look good.
Whether Jackal are good tunes or not, this only re-enforces why i chose 034. They know their shit.
I like how ppl are calling an issue normal Just because it's so common. Reminds me of the b7 how everyone says drinking jugs of oil is normal when ppl ask about the issue. Noooo common and neglected is not the same definition as normal or ok.
THIS right here is why 034 is the best in the business. So glad I chose this company for my mods.
Thanks for shining the light on this team. Keep up the great work!
Dang, was planning on getting their Q7 4M crec this winter, but maybe not. There are not many q7 crec options….too bad.
034Motorsport tuning will be available soon!
"Jackal"? More like "Mad Max"!
Maybe there's room on the market for this kind of tune, "We bring more fire to your engine."
If you're seeking to blow your car up, if that's what you want, this seems like a good way to do it, if their product really does max out supercharger pressure ratios.
I noticed the cup shuffling for sure. Good edits kept the video flowing smoothly
Reminds me of people in the gti community switching to sneeky tuned even though they have a mountain of blown up engines
Thank you gents, no doubt I made the right choice going with 034Motorsport.
I will stand by 034 everyday of the week. Fully trust their product as their transperency has always proved true!
i dont have either tunes so i have no skin in the game, but I've seen the way Jackal conducts themselves..... If that's how they conduct their business, then I'm not sure Id trust them fully as a tuner. just my opinion
wow, i’ve always loved 034 products as all the hardware i run on my car is 034 but went tuned through jackal, really disappointed to see this, have you guys looked at any of their zf8 tuning?
same question here, either way we can assume it has the same disabled safety that affect us including janky EGT , and the torque/maf
😂🤣 I love this! Definitely going 034 when the time comes.
Wow 034 might be the goats of this shit 😳
Data doesn’t lie. Excellent execution, great video. Especially the fact you explain how 034 goes about it, not just saying other people are wrong.
Cant wait for my tune from 034 on my Audi Q8, hopefully your company cracks the code on my ECU when I send it in as I am completely sold on your approach and honesty!
I've had the stage 1 e85 tune on my Q8 for about 6 months with zero issues and a night & day performance difference!
Jackal PR scrambling ;)
This is fantastic, thank you for taking the immense amount of time to do this!! Great stuff!!
I’m waiting for the profanity-laden “fight me bro” comments from Jackal tune owners…or employees 😂😂
This isn't only applicable to one tuning company. This is more or less the state of the tuning business in 2024.
Thank you for showing us s empirical data instead of memes
Just wondering if Jackal knew tunes could be brought and analyzed like this easily. Then why lie when they knew this could happen?
three letter answer: LLC
I’m a die hard 034 guy. They made my car something I love more than any other car. You guys are incredible. Keep up the good work.
The name Jackal alone has been a red flag for me.
I mentioned this on audizine and got laughed at for saying that i would never consider a company with such a dark name and ancient diety as their logo. They made fun of me for being a bible thumper.
All I know is that I have a 034 stage 1 3.0t that ive ran pretty hard with no issues.
Has jackal debunked this video ? It doesn't seem like they have. What are they waiting for ?
Do you offer any discount for people moving from Jackal to yourselves?
Yes! Feel free to email us at sales@034motorsport.com and we'd be happy to offer you our switchover discount!
Very great and informative. Glad I stayed with you guys and didn’t hop on the bandwagon.
Hmm 🤔 So, tuning with Jackal is like when you put some drastically modified, pirated lite version of Windows on an old computer, you’re searching the web and then you realize, something ain’t right. Some dude 6,000 miles away is about to control my half assed smart home, isn’t he.
Matt Barrington is too cocky..can’t stand him what so ever…glad I never brought my Audi to Jackal
Zero BS TRUTH bombs
I only use 034 TUNES OR APR and IE. nothing else. Jackal sounds like a joke I would never put that shit in any of my vehicles.
If this wasn't true. I would think matt at jackal would respond by now.....
Are you worried that if Jackal could comprehend the information in this video, they might use it to improve their tunes?
Yes, we dare them to.
@@034MotorsportUncut😂
If they adjust it, somehow it is a good way to correctly compete. But the language on Jackal is definitely not good.
@19:35 would this allow a runaway engine ?
Jackal's product sets the torque deviation to 1000.000 for all RPM and torque values, blanket.
Good work 034.
Love this video. Thats all im gonna say.
Jackal seemed to be the Josh Bader of the Audi world. Unqualified scam artists.
Great presentation
so glad i switched from competitor E!!!!! cant wait for you guys to ship my TTE810 next month!!!!!!
Thank you 034 for everything you do.
Same here this is a great video!
Make b8s great again
We showed the truth in this video with the raw data and evidence to back it up, and have no reason to falsify or lie in the video due to the exact reason we made the video.
winOLS will get it done, might have to map some of the charts yourself tho
Great work
PREACH!!!!!
The conclusion section actually an important point to call out unitronic/IE/APR that bring the environment back. Maybe 034 official, or folks should share to those companies’ principles
Too bad no tune is offered for 2017 Q7 CREC 😢. We don’t have many options besides Jackal
We've got our Q7 CREC Tuning coming very soon! Thank you for your patience!
@@cgpd7507 dude I know, I was going to pull the trigger this winter. I hope 034 comes out soon! Otherwise it’s Uni or Apr.
Thanks!
Has jackal debunked these claims yet ? I'm assuming no
EPL P.2
What proof would could they provide to convince you? Also, I'm sure you, or anyone else, could check for themselves and see if this is true or not.
@salazar1104 definitely bought the snake oil, soz bro
Thank you for the video. I never even consider jackal. I think the name is negative and low vibration. The truth always prevails. Thank you very much again 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I just purchase a 2016 SQ5. I’ve been using i.e. but I look forward to 034 and I think that’s when I can use the anti-lag and have a nice pops and fireworks out of the exhaust. Thank you for all your hard work
jackal will come and go.🔥
