Hi Melissa, I am studying Chemistry because I have to take it in High School LOL. I am currently a Junior. Chemistry is not my favorite subject at all-mostly because it's science and math combine- but your videos are the first ones I go to when I feel stuck. They are EXTREMELY helpful! Can you do a video on electron configurations sometime in the future? Would be very much appreciated:)
I can’t believe you posted this years ago and I just found it now! You explained all this to me in just a couple of minutes and really helped me understand something my teacher has been teaching me for weeks. Thank you!
Thank you for this video! My professor is very smart & explained it 5 different ways which confused me. Thankful for your time in putting this together 💕
I am back in college after 4 years active duty in the marines. You have made this transition back to academics in chemistry so much easier. Thank you so much and please never stop making these!
thank you so much for talking slowly and explaning in a way i can understand, I have been out of school for 20 yrs and just went back to school for nurisng and this Quantitive Reasoning Class has me messed up, your videos are helping so much !
MELISSA! I'm taking chemistry this semester and I'm not so good with math. I hope I pass this course using your helpful videos. If I don't pass then I believe Nursing ain't for me. :(
You can do this lovely! If you're struggling with the math part I recommend reviewing these math concepts. Order of Operations: ua-cam.com/video/saTBf8AO4Ok/v-deo.html Solving Algebraic Equations: ua-cam.com/video/l3XzepN03KQ/v-deo.html Rearranging Equations: ua-cam.com/video/9d2UC49DDFE/v-deo.html
Kayla Parham don’t give up! I’m pre-med and I had to take math more than once. But I passed it and my next hurdle is calc. You just keep working at it.
Hi Melissa! You are really helping me understand scientific notation. Thank you because I have a hard time in math🤦🏽♀️ Math is really not my subject and we are learning this in the 8th grade so thank u for really breaking it down for me.
Hello I’m wondering and thank you so much for this video! Helped a lot! I have an example question: what if in scientific notation there is only two values after the decimal point. For example; (1) 673.43 There is only 4 and 3 after the decimal point, I’m confused on where to start with my decimal. And also: (2) 0.00790 What if there is a 0 after the whole numbers? I know it’s a negative, meaning a small number but do I just ignore the zero and place my decimal in between 7 and 9?
Thank you, miss. Sometimes the text book is way over done. But once you get the gist of it then go and read the examples in the book, it'll make sense.
Hi Melissa. To answer your question i'm studying chemistry because it's a very interesting subject. All these chemicals get mixed together and BOOM you get a change in colour...explosion...a gas etc. I'm thinking about taking a (BS) degree in chemistry. The thing is i'm not really sure about it because as you already know i have to be very good at maths and calculations. Maths has always been a problem for me. I have to look over and over again to understand something. I know it will cause a huge problem for me specially when it comes to practical chemistry. I'm not even sure if chemistry is the right major for me. I'm so confused and my mind is all over the place. University is such a big step for me and i don't know what to do. Sorry for the very long comment, but i have no one to talk to about this since i'm homeschooled.
Oh my god thank you for the replay Melissa. I feel so inspired and motivated to continue with what i'm studying. I needed this kind of encouragement. Thank you :).
This is great! The only critism I have is why you did not use significant figures when you were reporting some examples (3:07)? I wanted to use this as an introduction to scientific notation in a chemistry class but don't want my students to develop bad habits by showing numbers in the mantissa that are not significant. (9.0207 x 10E7)
Hey Melissa , you said that standard form is the number itself but according to my textbook, standard form and scientific notation are the same thing . Why is it written like that ? Please someone explain . 🙏🥺

Thank you so much! I relied on calculators so much but you make it so easy to learn without using a Calculator Thanks! Do you have a channel on how to convert metric conversions for volume, length, mass and height?
Yay! So happy to hear, it's an awesome feeling not having to depend on your calculator 🤓 I do have few videos on these types of unit conversions. Unit Conversions: ua-cam.com/video/0W1e-dAnRrE/v-deo.html Converting Units Series: Video 1: ua-cam.com/video/7voNNBbMcxE/v-deo.html Video 2: ua-cam.com/video/eKDePGWNAHo/v-deo.html Video 3: ua-cam.com/video/t6fYYPrzhOU/v-deo.html
For anyone who’s having issues with the exponent’s in the answers, like getting 61,200mg (6.12x10^5 mg), here’s what you’re doing wrong. What you’re probably doing is typing 10 then your exponent button, then -6 into your calculator. Now, instead of giving you 10^-6, it’s giving you 10x10^-6. That’s why your answer is wrong. You need to type 1.0 (exponent button) -6. That will give you 1.0x10^-6. Many calculators will just let you do (exponent) -6 too.
This is not clear and the video ends before you can explain further love your videos can you please explain. In other words 12.409 x 10^-6 ONLY ONE Digit has to be in front of the decimal. So this is not correct because there is 2 numbers (12) that is in front of the decimal. How to fix this is BECAUSE it is a negative exponent move the decimal one place to the LEFT. When you count the total numbers that is after the decimal you get 4 digits. So the correct exponent will move from being -6 to a -4 figured it out.
NEVER STOP MAKING VIDEOS. you literally explained something in a couple of minutes that my chemistry teacher couldn’t teach me in 4 weeks.
SAME currently!!
Ditto
Just did the same for me, great video

The best video I have ever watched explaining this. My English Learners got this so quickly. Thank you!
I love to recommend your videos to students in my online classes. They are clear, precise, and accessible.

I feel the same way. I feel like if I don’t pass this will name or break me for my RN nursing career plans ☹️

Alexis Lang you are so sweet thank you so much girly 🥺💘💘💘
thank you so much for making this video!! You taught me something my teacher couldn't in an hour
Thanks a million! You’ve helped me so much! I’ve been trying to figure out how to tackle the negative exponents and your video came to rescue! ❤❤❤
This was so useful! I'm cramming for my chem quiz and this helped so much
You're welcome, hope your quiz went well.
how was the quiz?

Thank you for explaining it to me! I only in middle school, but explaining this actually helped me understand my math teacher's lesson more!
this helps a lot! i’m struggling in chemistry but you explained this very well, thank you❤️
You help me so much its always so hard when my teachers explain it thank you so much
amazing explanation..liked this video very much..
Hi quick question how do you know where you move the decimal
Thank you so much Melissa!!❤

Yay!! Happy to hear
you saved my life
When you learn more on UA-cam than in class.
what if its 1/500 for scientific nota
Thank You!!!!!!!
love ittt❤
6:25, we are not alone!! You forgot the music!!!! Not fair!
Merci de votre aide!
For the last practice problem why is the answer 3.2 * ten to the negative three when you have to go to the left since the exponent is zero
Never mind same answer
Very nice and beautiful teacher
Omg thxx I have a test
When UA-cam teacher are better than our teachers
Holy crap chemistry is the hardest class I've ever taken in my life
thanks!,
this. i need!
THANKSSSS
ty
My awesome students say, "we like your videos, bro".
Hahahah! Let them know I say " Thanks, bro" 😂
She knows are to teach
You’re awesome
