Pure Pannier Power on the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway

- The second weekend of September saw the South Wales Valleys echoing to the sound of Great Western motive power, as the Severn Valley Railway's No.7714 joined the industrial home fleet of the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway for their annual autumn steam gala. The Pannier Tank is certainly no stranger to this part of the country, seeing service at Penallta colliery, having been sold to the National Coal Board by British Railways following withdrawal in 1959.
In this video, we catch a few scenes of the loco hard at work over the challenging gradients that the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway offers, rising to as steep as 1 in 24, for a brief section.
Perhaps a glimpse into the future for when the restoration of the line's own Pannier, No.9629, is eventually complete.
Filmed on Saturday 10th September 2022, using a Panasonic HC-X1500 with an Audio-Technica BP4025 microphone.

I've always admired your work, it never disappoints. Unlike others, I like how you keep the film running well after the train has passed. Listening to an engine working away into the distance is just as enjoyable as watching the train up close.
Many thanks for the kind words, Andrew 😄 I always like to give shots and soundtracks room to breathe, so I'm glad you appreciate that 👍
Oscar award for sure! 🏆
