A super insight into the 'behind the scenes' activities of our heritage steam rail tours, long may they be allowed to continue.

Thank you for filming even in the quite heavy rain. Excellent video.
From Australia, last year I did an RTC day tour but didn't observe the loco 'Bahamas' being serviced. It's terrific that England has so many steam (and diesel/railcar) main line tours. Well done!
You might be surprised how many foreigners like me watch these UK videos. I've been to your country twice in the past two years, and enjoy your railways immensely.
It's always surprised me that your locos by and large lack automatic stokers, yet the Victorian Railways' R class manufactured by The North British Loco Company have such an aid. Our maximum speed for steam locos in Victoria now is 80kmh (50mph) but was once 115kmh (70mph).

Was wondering about repeated wheelslip from the red signal . . until l saw the entire train (not to mention the accompanying English standard precipitation!). What a great looking engine.

Nice.. Royal Mail train in the picture, soon to end. RM have cancelled the rail transport contract and have moved moving mail to road transport. Rather dumb idea imho..

You got that right. Aren’t we supposed to be taking traffic off the roads and one train can carry at least thirty lorry loads of mail lessening our carbon footprint. The Green lobby can be pretty silent when it suits.

They want to charter the train with other businesses. It’s too expensive to run as a service now, due to Amazon and the like having their own delivery drivers/lorries. Everything is on ‘cutbacks’. RM not wanting to deliver Saturday either

Eeeee by eck, tis luxury that!! 😵😁. The last few times I was out with the green one we had to service it on the spur from London Road Junction. No pit so we crawled between the wheels to rake the ash pan and oil up. Loading coal was in one ton bags lifted by a hiab on the lorry and water from a tanker.
Back in the 90’s Upperby was still open as a depot and we would stable there between trips but we never went inside the building just used the same tracks as seen today. Back then you could still see where the turntable and radiating roads off it were.

Fascinating and shows just how much goes on behind the scenes which most of us never see. It must have been very difficult technically to capture - I presume you were using a very long focal length. I've long wanted to have a go at that with the drone but there are serious legal issues involved in flying directly over the railway - and that rain would have made it a complete non-starter.

I often watch these charters disappear from view in Les Gilpin's videos. It's interesting to see what goes on once they get there.
There's similar activity undertaken just outside Gt Yarmouth station, although the volume of charters is tiny in comparison. I've been lucky enough to watch in person both Mayflower & FS being serviced there.
