Smaller lures seem to be a more vulnerable presentation. With a smaller bait fish the larger predator feels as if it would have an easier time of dealing with it. I would always choose a smaller option.

But then again a big lure moving slowly always looks like a big nice easy meal that pays better for the effort / less energy expenditure. I think Dan's got the right idea having both options on the boat

The fish you called small, I would say are decent. Even though I fish from a local creek and catch not monster, those "small pike" were ok... 😂

Since the baitcaster doesn’t have a bail arm , once you cast out and start retrieving does it lock so the line doesn’t keep spooling out ?

    • @jimmynich4791
      @jimmynich4791 Рік тому +1

Yes, you push the button to free the spool, as soon as you start retrieving the spool locks straight away.

@@pvegod1484 I stopped fishing for pike for the time being, switched to jigging for perch now I'm getting a bit bored of that and I'm gonna start targeting chub and trout. Hell yeah. old school spinners always get shit done. I've had 15lb on a 9g spin tail and those lures are super tiny. If you dont mind catching smaller pike. small spikey shads made by fox often get me a fair few jack pike when im out trying to target the perch.

My Regents Canal in East London has been dreadful for perch . I recently went 20 trips with not so much as a follow from a perch . You gotta fish as close as possible to any reeds you see . The closer the better . Was heading for another perch blank yesterday and then caught 3 perch from the same reed bed and then nothing again from then on . Hopefully things are gonna get better over the next week . If not im looking at joining a controlled stretch somewhere as the canals in East London just doesnt have the numbers of fish in them unless your wasping in the very height of the summer .

@@elwooddestiny11blues20 thanks for the reply... iv just had my 5th short session without a fish. Around a couple of hours each session. Not blanked this much since I started! I'm fishing a new stretch and only had 1 small pike so far.. but i no it holds big perch as iv seen them come out on other methods in the past. Hopefully things pick up after spawning. I'm also joining a cheap members club who have a nice stretch of canal with perch to 3lb.. also a couple of big pits with plenty pike and perch... it holds big tench and Carp too but I'm after predators atm. It's only £30 quid for the year.

Great video as always, lovely days of fishing. :)
If anyone could help me out a little I`d appreciate it. I`m looking into buying my first baitcaster but on a budget. I started throwing around 50-70g lures and ended up breaking my reel (dam quick 4 4000). So would a cheap Abu Garcia Black Max or Okuma Ceymar do the job of handling with 70-80g lures and 40g spinnerbaits or would it fall apart in a season?
Abu Garcia Silver Max or Abu Garcia Max STX are also in the ball park. But I also have to pick up a rod. (sg mpp2 130g probably)
Also I need to say that casting gear is still waaaaaaaay behing traditional reels where I live and second hand isn`t an option. (even the stores are lacking in casting equip)
Edit - if there would be a reel that could handle those without the bail shattering I`m up for advice also. (been looking at Penn Fierce)
    Thanks in advance. :)

Hi. As a rule of thumb, I can tell you that on the lower-middle price range Shimano probably gives the best quality. I only have Shimano's reel and they never gave me a problem - given that I did the basic maintainance everytime I had to.
Now, I don't now your budget, but if you want to fish for pikes I would suggest to stay in the whereabouts of £100 for the reel. In lure fishing the reel is vital and the part of the equipment we stress the most, so it ought to be good.
The baitcaster I use is a Shimano Caius - about £80 if it's still sold.

@@giorgiotatananni9652 Thanks for your answer. Been spinning pike for a few years now, trout before that, but looking at my first baitcaster set. 100 pounds sound about the top end what I`m willing to spend to give baitcasters a go. :) Thanks for your input! :)

I know your question was 11 months ago but as someone who just spent HOURS (probably days actually) looking this up, here's what I decided. (UK based answer looking for good cost balance - not spending hundreds of GBP)
Abu Garcia Max combo 10-40g on angling direct for £70), possibly ok for rivers but not really up to handling larger lures of course and so I avoided.
Abu Garcia Beast rod - good quality, just in my price range (6ft is £80 at time of writing, 8'6" is a lot more at around £130), highly rated everywhere, I hated the green colour so sent it back. It's a shame as the old Svartzonker range these replaced (I think) were much nicer looking imo. Best baitcaster reel (for kit snobs who have to have stuff matching) is expensive (£150-170) pairing so above what I wanted to pay.
[EDIT] Adding that the Abu Garcia Ike combo is no longer available so if you watch any Snagged Bro vids and see them using this, you won't find it anywhere!
Fox Rage Prism X pike spin - great price (£70) and perfect casting weight range of 30-100g but I read bad things about High-modulus carbon blanks, that they are prone to breaking if slightly damaged so again I avoided.
Daiwa Prorex - This is what I ended up buying. Got an 8ft one for £79 that casts up to 120g and it's not too stiff - plus has nice decal. I paired this with an Abu Garcia Revo X baitcaster that was on offer on Amazon at £80. So my price target was met on both fronts with what I feel is a great, heavy capable setup.
      Hope this helps someone!
