Heed these tips for a comfortable, happy, and healthy flight.
Step 1: Pack early
Pack essentials, such as medications and passports, a few days before your flight, and completely finish packing the night before. You’ll minimize stress because you won't be rushing around the morning of the flight.
Step 2: Pack smart
Make sure all essentials are in your carry-on luggage. Fully charge your music player, game player, or laptop and pack books and magazines. Bring your favorite snacks and finger food.
Tip
Check out the entertainment and food options offered by the airline before you fly.
Step 3: Get a good seat
Consider upgrading to a better seating class for a particularly long flight. If you check in online up to 24 hours in advance, you often get to choose your seat or change to a better one. Or get to the airport extra early and check for a better seat at the counter and again at the gate.
Tip
Seats in exits rows and the bulkhead provide the most legroom.
Step 4: Tune out
Bring along earplugs or noise-reduction headphones to block unwanted noise. An eye mask will shield your eyes from sunlight if you want to sleep during the day.
Step 5: Consider coziness
Bring a soft travel blanket and neck pillow. Besides being warm and cozy, you won't have to worry about the airline's blanket-cleaning policy. Dress comfortably and bring thick socks to swap for your shoes after take-off.
Tip
Neck pillows with lavender are said to be calming and reduce headaches.
Step 6: Prevent illness
Take motion sickness pills or ginger capsules 2 hours before your flight if you're prone to air sickness. Wash your hands, especially before and after eating, and bring hand sanitizer wipes.
Tip
Wipe down airflow vent and tray tables with sanitized wipes and use a tissue when touching the bathroom door handle.
Step 7: Hydrate and move
Drink plenty of water before and during your flight to avoid muscle aches and fatigue. Get up, stretch, and move around often to prevent stiffness and deep vein thrombosis.
Did You Know?
A survey by 3M and the Global Strategy Group found that most Americans would rather get stuck in traffic, go on a blind date, or go to the dentist than sit in the middle seat on a flight.
12 years later and I still come back here every time I go on holiday to get me THAT feeling
I almost always watch all the “travel howcast” videos when I’m excited for a trip
Same 😭 😭 😭
i also suggest bringing gum or mentos, beause your ears will get blocked
Hurts too
kayla crimmins ugh I hate that >_
They block? Mine pop! I have rlly sensitive ears
kayla crimmins
If your ears hurt, you can also drink something, preferably water or soda so it doesn’t hurt.
Yes and earplugs becuz those engines are LOUD
step 1: eat a full plate of pot brownies
not gonna lie it probably makes it go by faster
MrOTBxTrains Your gonna be more baked then the brownies were.
@@catnipcannoli305 LOL
Brownies are good but if you eat too much that can cause health problems
@devanireneeortman Those ain't normal Brownies. They're a Jamaican delicacy liked by Bob Marley.
Man this brings back memories
Ugh, who would willingly choose the middle seat? You lose out in both ways: you don't get the window to lean on, and you still have to ask the person on the aisle seat to move if you want to go to the restroom.
Middle seats are the worst on a long flight lol.
Middle seats have windows, at least the ones in America do.
+Pixie Dust whut?
+Pixie Dust what
Pixie Dust is this a. Joke?
0:56 his face is like: 'IMMA EAT THAT FOOOODDD!"
Extra Tip: Before booking your flight, make sure to clear your cookies on your web browser. The more times you've booked a flight on that website, the higher the prices will be (this applies with almost every flight website).
Berger Man WOW really?
How do you clear the cookies ?
Baileigh Blanchard The best way is to look for tickets and book them on your browsers incognito mode.
Berger Man I do not need that tip what I have is is ipad
Wow, TY! You have legit saved my mum and I's life!
Going on a plane is not flying, it's taking off first, then falling with style to the next airport.😁
Toy Story jokes.
xD
Shut up youre not funny
I agree
I'll sit anywhere on a plane as long as nobody else is near me.
+Pixie Dust And a windoe.
😂😂 W
My family once went to America and the row in front of us was completely empty so i jumped in there and it was absolute heaven 😂😂😂
Flying non-stop from Seattle to Chicago this Christmas! I'm totally watching this!
I live in Seattle
Audio Books are a must, as well as a seat with A/C power to charge laptops or tablets...a Kindle is also great! Don't forget reading glasses if you are prone. For smokers, some nicorette helps reduce the nicotine craving.
If the plane does not provide A/C plugs on your seat, consider getting some battery pack that can charge some USB devices.
My life saver are my noise cancelling headphones, I love them because I can fall asleep no problem and not have to hear everything. They've done flights to tel aviv, Jamaica, Amsterdam, Rome, and London, they're my essential because or else I'm not a happy camper when on a plane
If I ever go on a flight for the first time, one audio book I think would be really great is that book by British vet James Herriot (Christopher Timothy, the man who played Herriot in the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small, reads it) called All Things Bright and Beautiful. I haven't listened to it all the way through in order, but I think that would really do well to pass the time.
It's like a shopping list.
It isn't easy to prepare for long ✈ rides these days. I brought one of my Harry Potter 📚 and my iPod 2G 12 years ago when my parents and I traveled to Italy and Germany. 👏🏻
I'm going to be on a 18 hour flight and my worst nightmare is I don't want to poo in the airport or plane. HOW DO I DO?
nachscratch Good luck. Vegetables will pass the system faster than meat
Buy some diapers from your local store
nachscratch im going to the Philippines say that to a flight that's 15 hours long
***** OMG same
nachscratch Im going to be on a 25 hours trip (Link flight)
This always gets me really excited for my summer holiday travels!
I needed this,I'm traveling from Nevada to Barcelona ,AND THE FLIGHT IS ALMOST 24 HOURS LONG!WITH ME AND MY DAD,IN FIRST CLASS
I've got a 13 hour flight from Sydney to LA and it's my first time on a sleep trip. And it's my first time overseas so it's a lot to take in I guess. 😂😂
I'm going in 2 weeks from LA to Sydney.... How bad is the flight?
Oh, good luck! I haven't been yet (unfortunately v.v) but I don't think it should be too bad! It's my first time in America? Have you got any suggestions of food or things i should buy or try? Please let me know, I will do the same if you would like :D
G-Zuz33 ^^
Bring books, music and chargers, noise cancelling headphones, an iPad ( if you have one) loaded with games or apps. And always bring along socks, extra change of clothes, any toiletries essentials and ur documents, I've gone long haul a bunch of times and these things have always been life savers
My tip is to be comfy, go in a onsie of you want😂
YOU FORGET A PENCIL IS REALLY IMPORTANT...!
For fill the déclarations form.
a flight attendant.
This is great! I'm moving to London from the US, and i'm changing flights 4 times, one being overnight. :D
The face at 0:56....Creepy.
***** IT'S WHAT HOWCAST IS KNOWN FOR HAHAHAHAHA XD!
Oh yeh
You hate when someone fart?
sure Mai Fahy
Traumatized Feline ikr
step 420: memes
I have a flight in 8-7 months. With 5 plane rides. So it's good to know a lot of things in advance
My longest flight has been 18 hours plus. depending on where you are flying to, not really sure about thick socks. Dress as comfortably as possible and no tight clothing! And if you are flying that long/far, pack some baby wipes and some hygiene items in your carry on. You'll thank me for it later lol
I've only ever had middle or window seats. I'm 6'1 and have pretty wide shoulders (normal weight, so no flab pouring over onto the people around me), so the middle seat is hell. The people to my side always take the arm rests so I put my arms in my lap which hurts like hell after a short while because of my build.
While at the window seat (i'd do the same if I had the aisle), I only use the arm rest away from the middle seat and lean on the wall giving the middle seat as much room as possible AND this is very comfortable for me, so why not. i wish other people actually thought about those around them from time-to-time. It seems to be a rarer and rare phenomenon.
LoL sorry about that I hope one day you will have a very good flight forever where you can rest well, sleep well, and enjoy the flight promise and promised c: C: c; C; :3 :3 :3 :) :))))))))))))))))))))))))) ;))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD ;DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD ;DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Newark to Singapore 18 hours nonstop, now THAT'S a trip
I have a 15 hr long flight to tailand in September
Enjoy you're flight man! I am going Australia to Singapore:D
I love long flights even without entertainment.
1:28 Because closing the window is too mainstream.
Thx for this video, now my 7 hour flight will be good!(even though I love long flights)
This'll be good for when I fly to Stockholm next month. That's an 8 hour flight from where I live!

Great tips for me because I'm got to Japan, singapore, and other Japanese related places when I'm older!
The face at 00:57......hahahahahahaha
Thanks this really helped I have to take a 22 hour flight to South Africa!
I'm going to Europe next year, this is quite a helpful video.
I've got a 1 hr car ride, then got to wait 3 hrs in airport here, go on 5 hr plane ride, wait 3.5 hrs in airport, 14 hr flight, 5 hr wait in airport, then 2.5 hr flight, then 1 hr drive. Fml that's a day and a half traveling, and I've got to do the same a few weeks later to get back.
Have you noticed that when he said "choose a better one" as in plane seats all the available seats were middle seats?
true 90's kid right there.
I'm gonna need to use this tip cause I'm flying from Singapore to Los Angeles and it's a 20hr flight.
Going to Beirut, Lebanon in 2 months!!! 28 hour flight -____-
But its beirut, totally worth it!
Yay I'm going to Latvia in October I can't wait
For five to six hour flights across the U.S. you don't really need all these things. Comfortable clothing is a good thing so you won't smell by the time you get to your destination. You can refill your water bottle after going through security. A passport is always good to have. Reading/electronics as well. Usually, that's about all I need for those flights in addition to my carry on. I almost never check luggage. I bring a smaller suitcase which fits a week's worth of clothing that I can store in the overhead bin, and a backpack for all the other smaller essentials that I can fit underneath my feet. I feel like a lot of people bring way too many things when they're travelling. But everyone is different.
Middle seat is the BEST
I have never been on a plane before, but yet i keep watching airplane videos... Hope i will experience all of this soon... Would realy love to go on a flight...international to be specific
Thanks for sharing!
Ouch, that's going to leave a mark. Even though I don't sleep most of the flight, I would still bring some of those things that they recommend.
I'm going to bring mine!
You have got to be kidding me. It's the best.
Am I the only one who likes to hear this for no reason?
Riddle no your not, i also like to hear it! •-•
Australia to America>27 hours! Well, there was a lot of turbulence :P
I have been traveling by plane since I was 2 months old, and I ALWAYS have to sit in the middle since I'm the younger sister.
you can bring an empty water bottle (plastic) with you and after take off you can get it filled up with water. that's more convenient than asking for a small cup of water every half an hour :)
I like the window seat and the isle seat. I've never liked the middle seat because you are crowed and have no head rest
i bring this on most of my flights lol
hell yea, you see that GameBoy!!!
This helped a lot
I have to go to alberta from nova scotia in like 8 days lol and i have a 3 hour layover in Toronto so its about 6-8 hours long, 😂👌 great
The guy in the thumbnail got me
@2000TiffanyLin they're talking about if you're not next to the window, but still close enough to glare in you're eyes.
Did you guys know that if you lost up the sign that says lavatory on the doors, it will unlock and open. Play peekaboo with your fellow passengers for a fun ride
Thanks! That comment speaks volumes of you - and I mean VOLUMES.
If I'm traveling to somewhere like from Pennsylvania to California, will there be TV on the back of seats, Blankets, or other things?
The Face @0:56 Though XD
I love being in plane everyone is afraid of hights but really a plane isnt scary at all
Congratulations, You've just been promoted from Sherlock Holmes to Capt. Obvious.
I get stuck in middle seat all the time thx for tips
I have to go on a long flight tomorrow and I have the middle seat..woohoo
The thought occurs to me while sitting for hours; what would it feel like to get up and just lay down in the aisle until someone tells me to get up. I'll bet it'd feel really comfortable.
I'm traveling to my hometown in Mexico (Guanajuato) and this was very useful...now why am I watching this instead of packing😶
Should you not leave your shoes on because it could smell? I mean I dont have that problem, but a lot of people with stinky feed kick their shoes of in the airplane and its very uncomfortable
So basically Move in and bring your mattress
I should be watching this when I have a plane flight
Going to London from LA next month. 10 and a half hour flight. Kiiiinnnndda freaking out.
Have any tips?
***** It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be, but I also had a really nice plane which helps a lot. I would just make sure to bring some sort of relaxation thing if you are going to try to sleep/rest like Rescue Remedy Sleep perhaps. Try to get up like half way through the flight to use the restroom or at least stand up and walk a bit to stretch your legs. Watch lots of movies and try to remember you're going somewhere fun!
I'll be going on a 12 hour flight by myself and
Kyla Janelle I am going to the Philippines and a a trip to hong kong is 17 hours and my connecting flight to the philiipines take 2-3 hours so im traveling with a bunch of jerks for an entire day and yes at the air port ill be there for 5 to 4 hours

I remember that only one hour later and we were still on the plane, I threw up for every 15 minutes. It sucks to be airsick.
i already was in a 13 hour flight before i watched this :O
Hopefully this will work in on a plane for 11 hours tommorow
That "things you need" list is long as hell. I don't take 99% of that stuff haha!
idk why i laughed at 1:12 lol
I dont get the fear of dentists. I am more scared of a regular check up lol
Going to Sydney in a few hours!!
