    Thomas is the best and most accurate reviewer - PERIOD. He is 100% correct about Mercedes top end seats not letting you feel like you are at one with the seat. I bought a brand new S-Class and couldn't get on with the seating position. I thought I must be going mad, everybody says S-Class is the best car.. but Thomas describes it brilliantly. Thanks for your attention to detail Thomas!

    I think the design suffers massively from the paris-syndrome: an amazingly beautiful concept got everyone's expectations extremely high and now we are presented with an aerodynamicly efficient bar of soap.
    I would glady sacrifice 20% range to get the looks close to the Vision eqs.
    Team ugly on the exterior.

    I like the styling, as you say it's driven by the need for aero efficiency. Rear seat comfort is a problem for EVs because of the underfloor battery placement. The need to make more space in the foot wells and maybe put more batteries under the seat squab. The silly noise profiles should be ditched asap

    This is an excellent looking and smooth driving car. I traded my model 3 performance in for an EQS 450+ and it turns heads wherever I've taken it. I'm able to use my Tesla home garage charger with an adapter with no problems. The self-driving / auto pilot capabilities are superb and on par or even better than my Tesla. 100% charge is giving me 418 miles of drive time. And there are brick and morter dealer service centers with actual humans who answer the phone if you call... if your looking for the best uncomplicated quiet creature comfort, class, high tech, build quality and head turning luxury in a 4 door sedan, you won't be disappointed with an EQS. And it even came with a steering wheel...

      Agree

    • @danieleriksson8685
      @danieleriksson8685 2 роки тому +1

      While i agree its strange it doesn’t feature a heatpump , it must be a reason for it. Heatpumps are only efficient within a limited temp range and isnt a solution for everything in winter. But i would love to here the Mercedes engineers explain why!

    • @FreeMountainTom
      @FreeMountainTom 2 роки тому +4

      @Daniel Eriksson: Heatpump is no magic stuff. In most of the user cases the heat pump will not impact range as much as you wish it should. On short trips for example the heat pump is no benefit at all. At medium trips like 50km the effect is also rather small as the saving effect only sets in after the cabin is already at a solid steady temperature and this takes like 20 or even 30 minutes. I mean in the car it is warm fast, like 2 minutes, but it does not mean that the cabin ambient temperature is already at a steady state. It is just that warm because the heater is working quite hard continously. And even if the cabin is warm the saving effect is in only in the best case factor 3. So if you spend 1,5kW with PTC at 10°C you would spend 0,5 kW with heat pump. At autobahn speed this would mean you have 1 kWh/100km less consumption. And that is already the best possible case. Usual case around zero degree or below the difference is factor 2 or less, so less than 1kWh/100km saved. Not impressive at all. One case where it really can shine is in combination with LFP accumulator because LFP likes it warm and is very warm after charging. So it can continously scavenge the heat from charging. That is one reason why Tesla Model 3 SR is a very efficient winter car. For EQS however engineers decided to not fit the heat pump because accumulator size is so big and the gain of a heat pump is negligible. As i said, just 1 kWh/100km on Autobahn in best condition which would mean instead of 436km range you have 454km.

      @@FreeMountainTom Thank you ! That was what I suspected.
      Is it also so that the heatpump has no use when heating up the battery since that is Liquid cooled and needs PTC heaters, snd heatpump is air to air?

    First, I like very much your videos and comments! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Concerning the EQS styling, more I see it more I get used to the design. Some less interesting things are: the lack of front trunk as the competition have. Would have been the perfect location for storing washing window fluid bottle, electrical connector, etc., why no rear wiper? Here in Quebec, Canada, that is very useful during winter season!! And AWD is the best option here! Otherwise, I wished to have a budget to buy one!

  • @imBugra
    @imBugra Рік тому +1

    Considering buying one of these nowadays. I currently own an S-class, one of these with 3.0 inline-6 petrol engines, giving me around 450 bhp with EQ Boost. Roughly speaking, with the current govt incentives in the UK, I can own an EQS for pretty much the same cost. I use it for the long drives, usually roaming in Europe and most of the time it is high speed cruising (~210 km/h) in German autobahns. Having owned an Audi e-tron as a second car, I really liked the electric cars, it is so silent. However, I haven't driven any electric cars outside the UK, and I can't reliably test an electric car in the UK due to extremely low speed limits (114 km/h in motorways). This was exactly what I was looking for. Also, I'm hearing heat pump thing for the first time honestly, didn't know if that helped that much for the efficiency. All around, EQS is definitely not an S-class comfort, only slightly better than an E-class, and that's mostly due to added equipment but not the car itself. Hopefully they'll figure out high-speed efficient driving for the electric cars in near future, but that day clearly hasn't come yet. Thanks for the review, saved me from a lot of hassle.

    As a owner of an EQS 450+ and living in Sweden I can say that the Consumption figures you state can be true if you are not paying attention to what is causing the higher consumption.
    Mercedes electric cars HVAC system gets warm very quickly and is doing this to protect also the battery which they prioritise in default setting, the drawback is that it uses a lot of energy.
    Luckily the EQS has ECO and ECO plus settings in the HVAC, which is extremely useful and makes it possible to have near summer consumption in winter, if you can stand having a bit colder in the cabin. In ECO plus it only uses the drivetrains heat to heat up the car, no PTC heaters. So if you really need to have better range in winter you could. Otherwise great review as usual Thomas!

    Thomas. Why dont you review any flexfuel cars? Isnt there any E85 fuel stations in your country? Weird if not available considering the fact that E85 is renewable, significantly higher octane, cleaner burning and better for environment while also being cheaper fuel(despite bit higher consumption) than fossil gasoline, diesel in many countries. Flexfuel technology allows drivers to choose anything from regular gasoline up to high ethanol content fuels like E85(85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) for their cars.

    Nah Thomas, the 75-80kwh battery packs wouldn't be about full already in 20 mins, because as we all know they slow down real fast once u get to 90%. And also a big slow down after 80. Anyway, 10-80% in 32-33% is very good, on par with the best right now (I think Tesla Plaid can do that too, with its older battery design).

      what I meant is: Both Mercedes EQS and Kia EV6 / Tesla Model Y do 10-80 % in 30 Minutes. But in these 30 Minutes the EQS charges 80 kWh instead of 54 kWh like with the smaller vehicles, that was the point :)

      @@autogefuehl yes sure, the engineers can allow super fast speeds for any battery ... with the high risk of causing damage ;) That's what it's all about. Someone can try to claim bragging rights (like Porsche did with the Taycan when it first launched, 350KW), to try to get some street cred, but then have to really consider the dangers, and in that example, Porsche after 2 weeks changed it back to "maximum 270KW speed of charge" :) Actually, it was 2 weeks after the Tesla conference call where an analyst asked Musk at the end in the Q&A section "What are your comments about Porsche beating you guys to 350KW speed for charging?" Must replied "you can't do 350, it'll melt the battery". Sure enough we saw that same month Porsche redact their marketing number ;)

    The consumption of 25kWh/100km in winter times is a bit disappointing. However, this is mainly because of the wet road in combination with the wide tires. It takes a lot of work (energy) to continously displace the water. Nearly all EV's have unfortunately that high consumption at motorway speeds in winter times when the roads are not dry. Exceptions would be Tesla Model 3 or BMW i3. BMW i3 cause of the narrow wheels. Doesn't suffer as much from the wet roads.
