If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbitl in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.

Ive been thinking about this video for the past few hours since watching it. I think that Alex is unmatched in his ability to communicate business concepts, both on a macro level and a micro level. Taking a massive goal (becoming a billionaire) and drawing a parallel with a more easily obtainable goal (earning $10 million) was quite interesting - especially the idea of using debt for liquidity if the majority of your wealth is in stock.

In Australia we’re taxed 45% on all income over $180,000 so I basically run all projected numbers at only keeping half the money.
A good safety margin either way.

Yes dividend recap is tax free given it is similarly a loan - Effectively borrowing money against the business while, to your point, not selling equity.
Still have to pay interest on the loan and ultimately repay the principal (if business not sold beforehand), however, no tax on proceeds of the recap.

Since you asked, Dividend recap isn't tax free. In the case of individual shareholders, dividends are typically taxed at the dividend income tax rate, which can be different from ordinary income tax rates. For corporate shareholders, dividends might receive a deduction or credit to avoid double taxation.
Great video Alex! By the way, Warren actually bought his first stock at age 11, not 7. He was born in 1930.

For "V4 - B".... how is the money legally transfered from the business to you? A dividend? ...which is taxable. And... now the business has a bunch of debt that it didn't have before.

$15m * 33%(remaining after 67% tax) is actually only ~$5m.
(Unless you are saying you keep 67% in which case the math is spot on, but your wording made it sound like that was the tax amount and not take home %)

I don't like most people I'll be honest. I feel the way you were describing but its much less now, for a couple reasons. I've spent a lot of time making my lifestyle better and doing the things that bring me joy even if they might not be the best habits. Also another reason I felt this way was because I didn't have a clear direction of my life and now I do. If you feel lonely the best thing is to connect with family members. I don't recommend random people. I tried that on the Internet and in-person but it's not effective.

In Alex's income/asset range, setting up an office in Belize should be at least 20% of his tax strategy.

absolute highest fed tax rate is 37%, pretty confusing for people who don't know this when you stated you're getting taxed 67% on accident. In reality you're keeping 2/3, hence the 1 billion in the video example.
That’s for personal income taxes. Business tax rates can be much higher, depending on how things are structured. I run a business and between Federal, State, and Local tax, I lose a little over 50% of every dollar earned to taxes (and I’m not earning all that much). Add in self-employment tax (social security) and all the other expenses necessary to comply with regulations, and it’s even more. If we’re getting technical and adding the hidden tax of inflation, where every dollar you earn is worth less and less… well, the whole thing is pretty depressing. 😂
@@jeremyandrebecca Sure. But it's clear as day for this example that's not the case. 2/3 of 1.5 billion is 1 billion shown in the example yet said he paid 67% in taxes which would've meant 500 million net not 1 billion.

Pretty sure he is referring to adding in Federal, State Income Taxes and NIIT. Still not sure how to get to 67%, using California, I get to 54%. Self Employment doesn’t apply at those levels.
