It would be interesting if Imperius, who essentially fell and embraced two of the great sins: Wrath and Pride, would become completely broken..... and slowly, steadily remade a new. Not a new Angel, rather falling to the very bottom. The absolute abyss of misery and consequences of his bad choices, just to free himself of his old chains, adapt, rise and return! A redemption ark of sorts. Damn that could be a whole trilogy of books! Slowly he would shed the shackles of the mortal sins and understand what he could not, and rise a new.
I am not a huge fan of redemption stories because seldom are they done correctly. But when done correctly ? Oh boy, tend those to be the most epic stories ever. And lets be honest. the bastard has style. It would be nice to see his character evolve forward a little so that we can have us enjoy more of this smug golden boy! ;)

11:50 - arch-angels are reborn. And they keep their personality just like the 7 prime evils. If completely dead they are reborn from the crystal arch. If they are "just" blown to pieces they can even reform on spot. Thats exactly what Tyrael did after the world stone exploded.

He has always accepted the rulings of the council when they voted against him even if he was pissed about it(aside from killing Diablo). When Tyrael accused him of being a coward, Imperius had already agreed to stay out of Sanctuary because he made a deal to let humanity make its own choices. Valor and Terror are two sides of the same coin. Imperius is Courage in the face of danger and Diablo is extreme fear. Imperius' whole reason for being is to face fear. Like Illidan told Maiev :" The hunter is nothing without the Prey". Deep down, Imperius knows that Sanctuary will put an End to the Eternal Conflict because The Nephalem are Anu reborn before he/she/it shed all evil from the self. It was never his plan to End the Eternal Conflict (His sole reason for existence).

Imperius is a purity elitist. He is unmovable in his resolve. Him being brash snd unwilling to accept the half borns as they pose a threat either way. The Humans have many different goals and are very broad in terms of morals. This would fracture the Angels. Even if imperius fostered the humans there is no telling how they will turnout due to their nature and ever chaotic demeanor as a species. Not saying hes right in not having a hand in their development. But he is right that things would be simpler if the wildcard was removed. Demons just dont care as much because regardless of the turnout the 3 primes and lessers just reform as they are and view humans as possible tools and have no sense that humans will bite them in the arse time and time again but still try.
On one hand you have imperius that chooses to stay away from a species whose aligence cant be permanently assured, then you have the burning hells who still arnt aware that humans will eventually fudge shiz up regardless of how complex and terrible their plans are.

I feel like it did make sense,
Valor is simply bravery, essentially it's just being good in battle.
The arch angel of wisdom however, saw further then good/bad in the endless war that's ravaged time itself. He thought about what was happening, and didn't act rashly, he went against both sides and saw a way of ending things without aligning to either sides, neutral if you like... something humans were, nephilim seemed to tip either side towards a win, so to not allow either side being tipped by them, he took it upon himself to end the war.
Although not wise in hindsight, it did seem to do more then any angel before him.
Tyreal at that point had taken the title as the arch angel of wisdom, and this I think gives us insight that maltheal no longer deserved that rank due to his line of thought.
It's a deep thought train anyway.

For me personally, all his glaring character flaws is what makes him interesting and why I like him :P He's definitely not meant to be a typical goody-two-shoes Archangel, but more of an antagonistic character in the story! I also heard that originally he was meant to be the final villain in Diablo 3's expansion, and not Malthael, but they eventually went with the latter.
So I like Imperius - because - he is an idiot! xD
But jesting aside, his development makes sense to me. I enjoyed his downward spiral into becoming a wrathful, bitter and arrogant warmonger that can't cope with how the status quo is changing and that he'd rather break before he bends. He makes a great antagonist in my opinion, and I fully expected him to take the villain route, though who knows if that will be in the works for Diablo 4.

I did assume with the destruction of prime evil diablo the soul stones essence would've been freed, but nay, and they could've found another motivation for Imperius and a power up method more appropriate to him, maybe he goes mad and absorbs angel essence and the power of his broken spear, creates powerful angel weapons out of the broken diamond gate and becomes a giant angel ironman or something, and the embodiment of wrath still believing he's "valor"... kind of what an artists conception of that now...

So if Imperius died, would he perhaps be also reformed because he is an Archangel? Further is is possible that if that happened he would be purified as it were of his sins and be the aspect of Valor as he once was? I guess we'll have to wait and see if another Archangel ever dies.

I have a speculation for D4: I think at a moment in the game we will see Tyraël in an angel form as the archangel of wisdom and chief of the Angiris council and considereting the threat of Lilith, he ask us to find and free Inarius. Does Inarius will become the new archangel of justice? I think it's not impossible that one day imperius turns bad and we will have to end his life, then another archangel of valor, more thoughtful, will take his place ;)

You know, I agree with you... but the biggest problem I've had with the Diablo franchise thus far is that we're told repeatedly that neither Angel nor Demon particularly rate humanity, yet... we always fight alongside the hosts of the Angels whenever stuff goes down. Diablo 3 obviously with the Heaven zone; but even the gates of pandemonium too in D2 iirc. Even the 'angels' that sided with Malthael were a splinter faction by circumstance and the angels were quick to dismiss them, even to an extent Imperius. I get that the name of the franchise is Diablo, but I guess I'd like to see a bit more complicated story telling beyond just the: Angels equal Good, Demons equal Bad, especially since we're actually told that this isn't the case. Less tell, more show imo. Hell, if they could show Diablo in a more sympathetic light; that'd be amazing imo.
And yes; Imperius is a complete buffoon. But I guess the idea of his backstory is to actually show us that Angels are just as flawed as anything else. Perhaps they have the literal furthest to fall, because the issues that plague Imperius (pride, arrogance) occured with other Angels too - like Izual.

To be fair, most of these are the result of putting angels above other races the same way humans use extremely violent and selfish means to get rid of insects and vermin that unknowingly enter our house.
Nephalems were born from an artificially created dimension and pose a threat to angels. That doesn't sit well with him and the only reason we dislike that is because we side with the nephalem to begin with.

@@lolaccount2192 Nah, the hips aren't the problem, the problem is showing femininity in that aspect but nothing else.
Diablo III Diablo was poorly designed because she had no face. No facial expressions that allude to it being a twisted version of a human, those things disturb us, not a random collection of horns and coals for eyes, those are just sterile polygons, they don't connect to us in a deep and disturbing level.
Random skull shoulders aren't scary, mankind twisted and fallen, that's scary.

If you kill imperious, the Archangel of Valour then another Archangel of Valour will arise from the Crystal arch and take his place, the difference here is that the new archangel will be untrained and lack any knowledge of the enemy his or she is fighting so as annoying as imperious is, he's better than the alternative.
