I'm glad you listened to your intuition. Or as some call it "that still small voice". More than your gear might have been at stake. You are so surprising at times. You seem to be so naturally cheerful, sweet, and kind. But you also have so much determination, and a rock solid toughness. Thanks again for putting forth the work to post your videos. I know it must have been a huge pain from the trail. Great job!
The human predator is definitely the more dangerous one. I know, of course, that you have already finished the trail but I still had a knot in my stomach when hearing your story. Stay safe!
After years of dealing with individuals whose behaviors ring similar to what you’ve described your instincts on his or their intentions were more then likely correct but probably extended beyond simple theft. Awareness, attitude and action are usually the best qualities and remedies for those situations. And it appears you have them ✌🏻
I’m so glad you’re ok 🙏🏼and also glad that you shared this story. It’s a sobering reminder of the realities and challenges that exist out there. This is a valuable learning experience. I know you’re off trail, but it’s never too late to report something like this, it could help save another beautiful soul from some potentially terrible circumstances. ♥️
I admire the fact that you are taking in the beauty that you are seeing along the way. I think that it important. I'm going to look through you videos to find your gear and weight of pack. You are awesome. I'm glad you showed no fear when the guy was being sketchy. Take care.
Glad you listen to your intuiion! Showed strenght and power! Great example and life lesson why being aware of your surroundings everywher,e at all times is a must! Stay safe. Thanks for sharing that. All need to follow your example.
Um, starburst...I have a feeling that his intentions were not (ahem) set on your expensive pack. Keep that bear spray at the ready. A knife is good, but the bear spray doesn't require contact with the perp
I will definitely have my bear spray in my hand when I am hitching next year. The safe ones won't worry and the harmful ones will know I am not to be messed with. So aggravating that we even need to be concerned about this sort of thing!!!
That pan at around the 6:40 mark - WOW! Good instinct - trust the gut for sure. Glad you had a knife on you. Either that or a rock like the Mountain Lion encounter, right?
Good job on honoring your intuition. As for the Knifes Edge I was scared enough on a bright and sunny day. Certainly wouldn't have wanted to be there in a storm. The footing is sketchy for sure. I hope you liked it.
Good for you.. It's a challenge for sure.. I've done sections of the trail.. I bought my first set of trekking poles in 1997 and never looked back.. One has to learn how to use them for the benifit they offer, I use one every day as I have my Jack Russell doggie reel in the other hand.. If a person doesn't push with them on level and uphill ground then you are not getting the benifit from them.. I see folks every time I go out just carrying a pair of them in their hand.. Well done good video..
Yikes! I think it is really tragic that you or anyone else has go through an experience like that. I hope you shared this info with your friends on the trail. One positive thing I have observed is that by the time you get past the Sierras the number of through hikers thins out and the remaining NOBO hikers have become acquainted, if not good friends, and they help each other out. Seems sort of like a "Brotherhood of the Trail" thing based on shared experiences.
Good to follow instinct in shady situations good you were prepared to defend your things and self. Beautiful trail with multiple colors. Brrr looking frosty in the night and morning. 🌟💥👣🍏⛺🌝🌞☀👌
Nicely done with the sketchy guy (and his driving jerk too). You were on top of situation for sure. Fantastic views of the mountains there. Do you know which peaks those were? Kudos to all of you handling the cold and the poor guy that has the food issues. Of course having nothing but warmed veggies isn't a bad way to go through life either. :-)
Good to hear you are on guard,,and willing to stand your ground.....I don't know if assaults for gear are common(have never really heard of that-missing gear usually happens at camp, when people separate themselves from it (maybe for bathroom time or to go to nearby lake to see or fish))..I would guess he was predator for physical assault or even kidnapping.....having a van, really sounds sketchy....the Northwest seems to have a real problem with that...maybe for town walks such as this,,always have weapon at ready, but also take along one hiking staff,,good defense tool if needed and appears normal to others.....I am so glad to hear you are OK from this possible event,,but maybe a life lesson to think about for others...trust your instincts....with all the wild animals you have encountered on trail...the 2-legged vermin are probably the most to be concerned of.....home stretch ,,stay aware as always....................Stay Safe and God Bless.........
Screw the knife , he'll stay on the other side of the road with a can of Bear Spray in your hand. Where as you hike in he N. Cascades the Goat Rocks are more my backyard. I really hope you had a clear view and not the misty fog if so then I might have to have you go with me in the late spring.
Wow, I hope your mom doesn’t watch this, she’ll have a heart attack! Good for you. I’m a retired cop, the best weapon you have is your brain! And you used it well! Always be prepared!

If that person had only known that you've faced down mountain lions/cougars, climbed the highest mountains, lived through the heat of the desert , and even survived chipmunk attacks (😉 ) he would never have tried to approach you. What a fool.
Snap a pic of the guy and the license plate, file a police report. You never know, they may already be looking for him. Over 200,000 people go missing in the US every year. You stayed safe, handled it well.
I do hope you reported that to the police and got a picture of the van . After all the miles you've done and something like that happens in your home state , unbelievable . On another note , sad to see so many dead trees from the bark beetle , no wonder why the fires burn so much wilderness . Peace young lady and stay safe .
Sweetheart, I don't think the pack is what he wanted. What scares me, is it's most likely not the first time he has done something like that, considering him running away and the way he was coming towards you. Happy you pulled the knife out. Also, he wasn't afraid of you seeing the license plate, that's too bold for someone going to steal your pack. Thankful you were ok.
You be safe out there Dear. I worry about you. It is a shame but there are too many scum bags out there. May God be with you and protect you. Enjoy your journey. Thank you for sharing your fine video. 🤗
That's shocking Starburst, I hate to think what he might have done to some other woman on her own who didn't react the way you did. Not just the knife, but carrying bear spray is exactly what you need in that sort of situation.
You didn't mention it, but did you call 911 to report an attempted assault/robbery so they'd have a record of it and be on the lookout for them? With the adrenaline of the moment, couldn't blame you if you didn't take a picture of the van/plate as I'm not sure what I would have done in the same situation. Scary stuff to think that people like that, are out there preying on easy targets. Reminds me of an experience I had when I was a naive teen, completely unaware of the danger I had been in until much later.
Its too bad you weren't able to get the license plate number and report the incident to the state police. The thought crossed my mind that they may have had even worse intentions. Be safe, stay alert , trust your gut, Me thinks you dodged a Bullet. JT. from Oregon
He wasn't going to rob you he was going to kidnap you ( a missing hiker would go unreported for weeks ) report this to the police, you may save someone's life.
Thank you for sharing. You are excellent for reading the body language. Remember you have the InReach, unlock it if you are ever uncomfortable again. Makes it easier to active. Also bear spray would have worked better then the knife. but you did excellent. If you can get the license plate to report to the local police. Most times standing up showing your not an easy target will de-escalate the moment. Also remember the vehicle because you will be making multiple road crossing as you travel north. Be safe and continue to move north. You are almost there.
I think that situation can be compared to the middle of the night 'deer' at campsite situation. Probably not a deer 😱😱 Glad you're ok and had the knife at hand. They would've had a real problem if you had all your followers there to defend you 😄😄👍 but guess you were enough to scare them off. Maybe should report it? A car description and description of men are pretty good. Maybe even word would get around and people could look out for folks like those..
Glad you had a knife handy to ward off a predator........ sad to hear about that when you're just trying to enjoy a most awesome experience........ So we had a little obsession with shrooms did we? You had a couple of monsters there Starburst!!! Maybe it's a good thing that your trek is NEAR THE END!!!!! Can you believe it? You are close to the finish line!!!! The crowd goes hushed in anticipation.................
that first shroom looked very much like a maitake mushroom (sheep’s head, hen-of-the-woods) is a choice edible and medicinal that always demands a good hunt, the next two (yellow/orange and the tan one) appear to be Coral Mushrooms, then there is what appears to be the Fly agaricus - Amanita muscaria (bad shroom), the big one looks to be a King Bolete a very popular, delicious, meaty mushroom that grows all over the world. I realize you are most likely done with the hike, but I look forward to seeing it all.
