  • Here you can watch Gary install a set of Progressive Mono Tube Suspension in the forks of a 2005 SoftTail. Every little step is covered. Even if you have never been into a Harley Front End, After this you will have everything you need to know how to rock it yourself.
    WIRING TUTORIAL AT 20:48
    Also! Gary replaces some crappy wiring to the head light with Deutsch Connectors (I didn't know they were called that!).
    If you have any questions, Gary is always quick to help out any way he can. So leave anything you want to talk about in the COMMENT section.
    And remember to SUBSCRIBE and click the bell to stay up on all the cool stuff Gary will be putting out!

    I have had a few questions about the connectors I installed, and one was "why did I install them right next to the other butt connectors?? Well, the connector was only one of the turn signals. The other side, and head lamp wasn't shot in the video! Sorry I didn't state that!

    Safe to say stock HD suspension is ... sucky?

    • @LateNiteVTwin
      @LateNiteVTwin  3 роки тому +1

      well, I won't say sucky but it can be improved upon. Oil weight changes in the forks only offer so much. The mono tubes are much more stabile and offer such a better ride, just like rear shock upgrades. The majority of my customers have stock suspensions and like them right from the factory. I think it just depends on what someone wants and expects from a machine?

      @@LateNiteVTwin Newer rider here ... since '16.
      I've owned a '16 Slim and a '17 Road King and while I've loved both bikes I've found that the front ends are harsh when rolling onto square-edged stuff on the road. Limited, if not nil adjustability in forks themselves.
      Suspension upgrase is what I'll be looking into after a Stage I on my '20 RGS.

    i really think you're one of the best youtubers out there. your subs should be higher. what do you think of dip stick breathers like fuelings for M8s. how would i know if i'm building up too must crankcase pressure? thanks

    • @LateNiteVTwin
      @LateNiteVTwin  3 роки тому

      Steve, first off, thank you for the positive comments! I believe in the Fueling dip sticks. I have one on my big bore twin cam! The M8 suffers from proper venting and it truly helps!The easiest way to tell if your crankcase psi is to high, look at the air cleaner bottom. Look for oil dribbling or a high oil content on the filter. That's how Harley vents the case. Bigger bore engines are susceptible to this, especially if you ride long distance and higher sustained speeds......

    I think it's a mistake to reverse the connectors left/right. Some subsequent person is going to plug the two hot plugs together and cause real electrical problems. Just use a Sharpie and label them L and R and wire them identically. It's a fail safe configuration. I'm not a Harley mechanic except for my own garage fumbling, but I am an electronics tech and expert. Always configure to fail safe. I love this video though. I'm about to do a Progressive monotube conversion on my 2000 Deuce.

I attempted this and thought I was going to destroy the seal going in. I cut the old seal and used it to buffer the pvc from destroying it. The one I did after than i put the bushing on, I took the 1.5 pvc slid it over the fork and drove it down first then the washer and the seal went right in easy like yours did. Any thought why?

    Is any one else a little attracted to this guy?
    I feel like I’m listening to myself teaching myself from a point in the future where I know everything and am still doing all things correct and precise!
    I trust this guy with my unborn baby!

      @@LateNiteVTwin Australia is quite warm most of the year so we ride all year round, trading my ride for the 2021 Softail Street Bob 114 soon, would love for you to do some M8 videos. Talk about the issues, although I think most have been sorted except for dumping misty oil back in. Catch Can might be my first upgrade. Cheers Steve
