What actually happened: Xehanort claims he was trying to perfect the world by becoming strong enough to control literally everything, Sora countering that a real leader would accept his own limits. Eraqus appears through Terra and reminds Xehanort of that one bright moment long ago, when Xehanort had admitted Eraqus was a better candidate for the World's defender and regardless promised to keep up by his side; the light that cast all the shadows that defined the villain we know. Bereft of all power and plans, Xehanort is finally able to reach this light again and do what he had only ever done that one time; admit defeat. Now dying with no living person to mourn him, the man Xehanort became faded into the nothing he amounted to; all left of him was that boyhood self of his, his distant bright past getting one last hurrah before his life as Xehanort ends.
What too many people thought happened: Xehanort was secretly a good guy all along, all the heroes forgive him since nobody river danced on his corpse, and he went into some never-established paradise to kick back and sip martinis for the rest of eternity.

I know not everyone liked this end for xehanort but it was very fitting in my opinion. A man doing terrible things in the pursuit of lofty goals. Ultimately having to come to terms with his own limits and let go. It’s a much better end than just “bad guy is bad and dies”. No matter what people think he’s not redeemed, he concedes defeat and in return finally finds a modicum of peace from a troubled life.

the problem with Xehanort character in KH3 is that line about creating a new world that is "pure and bright" and how the "the light was devoured by shadow"
when his whole character's speech in BBS is that people were too obsessed with light and treated darkness as a bad thing, when in reality the world needs a equal balance of both to work, and how that obsession with light would break that balance in the universe and fuck everything up
so why suddenly would he want to create a world of pure light if that would break the balance and fuck everything ?

    • @steelfoot98
      @steelfoot98 2 роки тому +7

@@Akr-um6wb while it is a slight retcon I think it still works out fine because logically it still works out. Xehanort uses darkness as a tool because it’s an immutable part of life in the current world and so trying to avoid it at all costs would be foolish. However he’s also researched enough to know that darkness invaded the realm of light and so was never supposed to be there. So his solution was to use the powers he had, light and dark, in equal measure until he could finally achieve his goal and reset the world to the way it was supposed to be with the realms of light and darkness completely separated. At least that’s how I see it, I certainly don’t fault people who disagree or don’t think it’s a good enough explanation.

@@lowhp_comic It was clear from BBS that Xehanort was just doing it out of curiosity and for the sake of discovery, the fact that later on he wanted to change the worlds in a way that he saw fit COULD have worked if he discovered he could do that once he got the power to do so. Unfortunately, because this was supposedly his plan from the start it turns him into a "doing bad things to justify the good that'll come from it" when in reality the only reason things were going to shit was because of the mess he was causing. From the Heartless to the Unversed, to the rise in Nobodies and so on, his actions caused more harm than the darkness he wanted to remove.
With the Mad Scientist angle, sure it's not as deep as it could be, but his actions speak for itself to the point I personally thought they carried his character. Keep in mind he did the following for his goal:
      1. Possessed Terra and ruined his life and the lives of Aqua and Ven
      2. Split himself into two different people, one of which destroyed countless worlds just to find the Door to Darkness while the other created Organisation XIII
      3. Had Xion created for the soul purpose of being a tool before commanding Axel (through Saix) to take her back which led to her being eradicated and forgotten
      4. Nearly any and all actions made by Org XIII was approved by his Nobody so in turn anything that was done by them that would have been approved by him is his fault through being their leader and especially Xigbars actions
      5. Killed his own friend for the sake of his goal, a friend he had known for decades and fought side by side with (presumably)
      6. recreated a tragic event from the past for the only goal of seeing what would happen.
All of these things are just broad summaries and could be more details but still, he wasn't evil for evil's sake he was evil for curiosity and his own idea of "progress", which is a lot more human than just doing bad things because he felt like it.

The animation on Xehanort when he says "Yes" always amazes me.
The way they depict the emotion on his face is so realistic.
The emotion of a man finally accepting he lost and he can't change destiny. Let's all of the burden go, the weight of trying to be the hero but justifying the bad along the way.
The "Yes" isn't just him being ready to die, but him being ready to leave the fate of the world in new hands.
Xehanort was not a hero, nor was he evil. He had good intentions but a flawed perspective and so he became the villain. Not through anything bad, but his unwillingness to lose resulted in him doing anything to "fix" the world as he seen it. He didn't want to lose to darkness but inadvertently almost caused it.
It's the classic Idea that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

So after Xehanort explains his plan, Sora pretty much starts the debate with "it wasn't your decision to make". He doesn't express much disagreement with the decision, just that the decision was made by the wrong person. Rather than disagreeing, saying something like "yes it is", "I was destined to do this", or something like that, Xehanort asks "then whose was it?" to which Sora had no response to. So Xehanort continues and tells what he felt the world needed, someone to stand up and lead and stop the weak from polluting the world with darkness. Sora, once again, not really expressing straight-up disagreement, responds with "if so, you're not that person." And he explains his view of how a leader should be, to which Xehanort has nothing left to challenge Sora with, and instead smiles and compliments him in a way, saying he reminds him of an old friend.
And then once Eraqus gets Xehanort to think back to the first time Eraqus beat him in chess, Xehanort approaches Sora and presents the X-Blade, congratulating him with "very well done." I love that moment. To me, Xehanort still sticks to his ideology, but he listened to Sora's and understood them. So with that, and the fact that Sora did beat him in a fight (with help, of course), Xehanort now feels that Sora should be the one to make the decision. Plus, you know, he admits defeat for the first time since he lost to Eraqus in chess.
So yeah, I just love this cutscene. Every now and then, I come back to this cutscene, whether it be finding it on UA-cam, or playing it myself.

He never said he wanted KH for himself. Only that he wanted to restart the world without darkness and back to the ancient light spoken of in legends. In the current world, he saw light as corrupt and it needed an extra kick of darkness to balance it all. He used any means necessary as the dark seeker as it wouldn't have mattered in the end since the world would be restarted.

    • @OWmyDragonBallz
      @OWmyDragonBallz 3 роки тому +5

@@umario251 Yep. Xehanort had desired to create a world where light and darkness would exist in balance. In KH3, that's still the case, though with one minor mistranslation.
In KH3, he mentions something that motivated his goals; there's always misbalance, in one age or the next. Since he was planning to return the world to "whence it started" he would need to prevent the darkness from spreading like a plague (preventing the first Keyblade War that caused the world and KH to disappear to darkness).
When he says, "an empty world, pure and bright," it is a slight mistranslation, where the original Japanese version has him say something along the lines of "pure and blank" like a blank canvas.
      "end the tyranny of light"
"stop the weak people polluting their world with endless darkness"
These aren't contradictory goals. A minor thing in the KH series is that the stronger the light, the stronger the shadow it creates. It's even the thing Mickey told Sora before Sora sees the Darkside in the Station of Awakening.
Light begets darkness, and the yearning for light originally created darkness in the hearts of people.
For an example of this relevantt: Eraqus pursued light so strongly and despised darkness so much that it caused his pupil to spiral into darkness and allow Xehanort a foothold in his heart.

It was eraqus, in all his reports he calls him brother even when he is planning to kill him, we also see him and eraqus fight in which he one shots him showing he is far more powerful, yet he doesn't kill him but leaves quietly and the says he in the reports he felt as if he was free from chains that binded him aka he threw away all restrictions on how far he will go to achieve his goals. Yet he manipulated terra to kill eraqus why? Cause he can't kill his brother but he does kill him in the end in the most cowardly way, only so he doesn't have to see his face or face him at all. He bodies terra, aqua and ventus alone after that showing he could have killed them all since the very beginning, of course xehenort at deaths door who knows there is no way in hell he is winning would be able to give up on his goal when requested by his brother to die with him.

@@joshbro8435 Also, some more things most people over look(common sense be damned, I guess).
Everyone in BBS knows xehenort can control darkness, like in his letter he sent eraqus he says terra has a darkness that he can't control and tells eraqus that he can help. Both of them then pretend to be surprised when the light ball test suddenly goes "wrong" as darkness from somewhere takes control of them, aqua doesn't show any signs of her negative emotions going out of control in a unprecedented situation but terra does let his negative emotions effect him which can see has darkness on him. Xehenort is so trusted by everyone cause he can control darkness perfectly, he is treated same as riku, xehenort also says in his reports that he has wasted his life and feels immense despair as he is too old to change it, leading him to get a new vessel. This is also tells us he has a good guy like he was living with eraqus for 50+ years, the guy who hates darkness trusts him of course he was the riku and eraqus was Sora. That is why riku gets possessed by him and ansem tries to convince to join him way too much. ( Ansem is xehenort's heartless aka a aspect of him and we know he wants to teach)
Terra sees young xehenort in riku and bequeaths him the ability to wield the keyblade, terra is eraqus adopted son of course he knows a lot about the xehenort who is his uncle to him and treats him has family. (Cause he IS)
Xehenort = riku who's Sora was blinded by light and became a tyrant who did not let darkness go, in turn xehenort felt oppressed and pinned down by him for who knows how long, after all xehenort is half darkness eraqus was trying to kill darkness a major part of xehenort's identity ( he realizes this later). In the end after 50 years he had enough of being oppressed and proposed the idea of finding everything about the keyblade war, why did he want to re create it? That's a huge mystery which is answerer later in union X and dark road. But we know his goal is balance and somehow the war archives it how? Kh3, answered it.

Terra: ( Gets denied the Master title )
Xehanort: ( Decided to make him a Master )
Sora: ( Gets denied the Master title )
Xehanort: ( Bestows him the most powerful weapon that could possibly destroy a Universe )

Beat Xehanort and put an end to the convoluted shitshow of a story called Kingdom Hearts...oh wait Sora dies and there are still more questions than answers, subplots, and characters that need explaining.

I remember getting angry when it was revealed that Xehanort was as a pile of pancakes put it ‘I’m actually a misguided good guy’
I mean, this could have worked, if this was built up throughout the series instead of just this cutscene. Also no, the mobile side games should not be the main reveal.

I'm, He doesn't deserve a happy ending the only one who deserved it have a happy ending is for the rest of the characters and maybe the Organization XIII the one he made and yet he gets a happy ending that doesn't make sense with me he should be stuck in the Dark Void where aqua used to be in. He was trying to be God by resetting the world when he thinking darkness is answer and then trying to be mr. Big hero himself trying to bring light into the world from the darkness which he started I can't look past his deeds and as a fan of the Kingdom Hearts is best and sometimes Riku he deserve Redemption rather than this guy.

From what I see, he wanted to restart the world without darkness and back to the ancient light spoken of in legends. In the current world, he saw light as corrupt and it needed an extra kick of darkness to balance it all. He used any means necessary as the dark seeker as it wouldn't have mattered in the end since the world would be restarted.

@@OWmyDragonBallz The Road to hell is paved with good intentions. I agree he didn't deserve a happy death, but honestly, I feel satisfied with this ending somehow.

I almost never angry at a villain fore doing villain stuff. That is there role in the story. And yet I still can see how it can be strangly satisfaying seing the good guys show no mercy. I once watched a cartoon with a villain who was a traitor who caused the downfall of his people. So when he came to face with the children of his people that all lost there parents becuse of him it was very satusfaying that they did gave a shit about his motives ore his problems. And his fate was cruel as fuck. He really begged fore mercy there at the end and he got none. I think part of what makes this so awsome is how adorable these children are. They deliver a feel of innocence and kindness so seing them being this cruel was well satisfaying.
This amv only gives a glimps of it. Spoiler alert fore Wakfu:
