Why this ending sadden me is because all the people got gathered is cause of Sora’s struggles and determination to save them and yet the hero himself couldn’t stay together with them nor the person he loves.
How I imagine life to go on for them: - Master Aqua continues on to train Ventus and a new generation of Keyblade-wielders in Eraqus' stead. - Riku teaches Terra how to control his darkness and return it to the light. They take it upon themselfs to travel the worlds, looking for new Keyblade-wielders to be trained at the Land Of Departure. - Axel and Isa move into the abandoned mansion in Twillight Town, catching up on the time they lost. - Roxas and Xion move to the Land Of Departure to train under Master Aqua as well. Every evening they travel to Twillight Town to have ice cream with Axel, Isa, Hayner, Pence and Olette. Roxas has stopped counting days. Xion's shell collection has grown. - Naminé has been adopted as Ansem The Wise's foster daughter. She has lost her ability to manipulate memories, but becomes a great artist, beloved by everyone in Radiant Garden. Riku visits her often. - Hayner finally defeated Seifer and became Struggle Champion. - Pence secretely studies Ansem's computer at the abandoned mansion, hoping to one day become his apprentice. - Olette, glad to finally have female company, becomes good friends with Xion and helped her adjust to life as a complete person. - The company producing custom-tailored black cloaks finally declares bankruptcy. - Scrooge and Remy make it big in Twillight Town and open more rat-based restaurants in other worlds. - Goofy decides to take a vacation to go on a road trip with his teenage son. - Donald hands his role as court wizard to Merlin, to spend more time with his uncle Scrooge and his three nephews. Together they experience many new adventures, involving racecars, lasers and aeroplanes. Their life is like a hurricane. - Mickey returns to his duties as king for a while until he goes on another quest to investigate some marvel-ous worlds and a galaxy far, far away. - Chip and Dale get the Rangers back together. - Jiminy Cricket travels the worlds, being a conscience for many more children and spreading the remarkable story he chronicled. He thinks nothing of the criticism that it is far too complicated and sequels take too long to come out. - Yen Sid takes on Oswald the Rabbit as his next apprentice. - Ansem The Wise leaves science to his apprentices and fully commits to being a kind ruler and good father to Naminé. At some point he finds a long forgotten sketch of his friend, the King, in his office, carrying the initials "W.E.D.", not knowing how it got there. - Kairi waits for Sora to return. Their hearts are still connected.

As for weather he was really there I don't think he was it was most likely Kairi imagining him being with her as in their hearts are connected I'm am curious as to how they are gonna bring sora back
At one point near the end, sora thought back to frozen and elsa, and in those worlds showed sacrifice. He knew what he was doing. He didn't it for all of them. 8 times, he used the power of waking and thus made him fade away. I'm guessing there will be a game, probably kiari lead, where she goes and rescues his heart. They gotta completely set up 4, so, more 3.5s to come.
Feel that. Needed a long drive and a bath after that one. Punching my ceiling in frustration. Why couldn't Nomura have just let them kiss on that tree and ended happy ending right there?! Ugh! Still mad, 4 years later.
I mean, all of them deserved this conclusion. Specially the Nobodies Trio (Roxas, Axel and Xio) and Birth By Sleep trio (Aqua, Ventus and Terra... duh). They got fucked by the plot basically the entire time. But still... all of them went through a lot, for a long time. They really deserved that after everything. I won't lie, it might seem exaggerated, but I cried with this scene, out of happiness but also some sadness (because I thought it would be the absolute end of the story). Got really emotional, man...
My favourite thing about this ending is after in-universe decades of darkness, suffering and loss, all of these people that fought and lost themselves for the light finally found peace together, but the one unfaltering beacon of hope through it all had to finally give up all the happiness he had fought to see in order for it to truly and completely exist. And he still went out smiling.
Wag-wan Kenobi yeah this is the best explanation I’ve seen of it, beautiful really because you know it hits harder seeing sora has to continue to fight in order to achieve his happiness in the future and he’s willing to sacrifice himself just based on knowing he will find a way home eventually (eluding to the secret ending)

Nah, IW half the population got snaped. This ending everyone except sora, Kairi got their happy ending. Plus how do we know he died? Just because he's at Shibuya underground doesn't mean he's dead. Perhaps Neku has a big problem and he was thinking of Sora and Sora followed his light to Shibuya

The ending scene at the beach is so happy but sad at the same time, I love seeing everyone on the beach together, damn Terra a grown ass man running on the beach with the homies, I'm so happy they havin fun n shit.

We still have to know what happened to the dandelions and how Ventus is still young since he was there in the time of The Keyblade War. I just hope that Ava don't be an enemy in the next game since she was the one that saved the light and brought hope when the war happened.
The part that gets me is how sora does little things to kairi to reassure her she is going to be alright like hold her hand tighter, scoot closer to her, and looks into her eyes only then after he sees her one last time he disappears.

I'm hoping in the next game we get to play as Kairi as she goes on a journey to find Sora. I just really *really* hope Nomura doesn't have her waiting on the beach for him to come home again. For crying out loud, Xion, the girl who is basically just Sora's memories of Kairi, has done more, and gotten more screen time and development than Kairi herself. It's hilarious and sad at the same time 😆

I hope she won't be all depressed cause Sora is gone, hopfully she'll ask Aqua for more training to a better Keyblade Wielder. I'm betting she'll have some very bad nightmares of her being weak and useless and having so much guilt for Sora sacrificing himself to save her. Plus Kairi will have to face her own personal and inner demons which would lead to a boss fight against herself like what Aqua went through herself but it make her stronger.
I’m really glad they incorporated Hayner, Pence, and Olette into this ending. They’re some of my favorite side characters and seeing them in this ending, plus them playing with everyone else in destiny island was just great.

Honestly, I hope that we will get another amazing arc for him in the next installment. He has already saved Sora in the past. His dreams are connected to him somehow. KH3 neglected him as a keyblade master in my opinion. He needs to be a playable character for a great portion of the game.
Riku got cucked in KH3. Not as bad as Aqua and Kairi, he had one moment of badassery before he "died." But still pretty bad for the only one who passed in DDD and someone that was hyped up in CoM to eventually become the most powerful through mastery of both light and darkness.

But since this is how Sora wakes up, we can be led to believe that his death isn't temporary. Afterall, he did die near the end of the game, as Chirithy explains to him.
It breaks my heart to know that he lived his life crossing all the worlds helping others, so that in the end he would give his life for the girl he loved.
@Darkest Angel yes. in BBS, ventus was separated, thus created the nobody vanitas. at the time vanitas had no face, until after ventus went into baby soras heart. around the end of bbs ventus goes back into soras heart and vanitas then takes on soras appearance. so when sora was turned into a heartless in kh1, it created the nobody roxas (ventus is inside him still) so roxas takes on ventus appearance. correct me if im wrong, my memory is iffy
He didn’t die, he just ended up in another world and couldn’t go back since he broke the rules of Power of Waking or whatever since he used it to bring Kairi back to life, he was only supposed to use it to wake people up, not fully revive them.
At 6:36 Kairi struggled to smile for Sora but after he disappeared the poor girl just couldn't hold it together no more. I hope those two will be reunited again soon.

My heart was filled with so much anxiety and hurt seeing Sora fade away. Very similar to the feeling I had in KH1 when they cued “Simple and Clean” when Sora and Kairi separated. Such a beautiful ending but definitely not enough! 😢 *Also the scene where Axel, Roxas, and Xion are united KILLS me - in a good way*
This ending is way worst than the first, 'cause we see all Sora' s friends together except for him. At the end of KH1 he was with Donald and Goofy. Unfortunately this time he's all alone very very far from home. He'll have to count only on him to come back this time.
Sora lost his heart to get back Kairi’s, but what did he have to do? Where did he have to go? How did he find her? The ending confirms a relationship but leaves us wondering what happened and if they’ll reunite again. You know Sora deserved a happy ending. That secret ending left me with so many questions too.

Now that I deeply watched this, Sora was physically there. Donald spots them and is about to happily run over until he is stopped. Even Goofy was wondering if he should go but Mickey said no. Then everyone literally stops what they are doing and looks over at them with a look of a mixture of concern and hope -cause I am pretty sure Mickey and Yen Sid explained the stakes that Sora was betting against when he left again. They knew he wouldn't be there for long. and what touches me here is that...we have always seen Sora treat all of his companions equally. Normally, I would expect him to share what little time he knew he had with all of them and letting them know he was going to be okay. But no, instead he chooses to spend it with Kairi alone. Holding hands togethers watching the sunset back in their home of Destiny Islands. And he just stares at her until he fades away, probably hurting that he is leaving her crying yet again. That is why I really wish there was dialogue shared at least between them cause of the longest time I thought Kairi was imagining Sora's presence. But it didn't explain everyone's body language and expressions. Now that I REALLY watched everyone's behaviors and observed the scene a bit more, it all makes sense that everyone saw Sora there and it was more fitting to see Riku staring at him last with an almost heartbroken look on his face cause he knew. Maybe in the DLC we will get to do the mission where we save her and we can hear what those two said before he disappeared? Hopefully.
Nah, the DLC better be us saving Sora already. I won't mind playing as all the keyblade wielders to save Sora. It will be slightly poetic even. Sora saved them all before the final battle. Now we play as all to save him.

WHEW. 27 year old man. Remember when my dad sent me this game in the mail when I was 12 or so. Games were so important to me -- even if the writing and story gets a bit wack. When I hit this ending I just cracked. Lmao I love this damn series.
I think they made it back and sora knew he was going to disappear so they spent his last moments together. In Caribbean Jack tells him that one day is all one needs and that’s why I think kairi is smiling and crying is she got this last moment with sora before he fell into the abyss or shibuya. But our boy Riku gonna save him.
Yensid after the whole debacle: Sora, I applaud you for defeating Xehanort. By all accounts, you deserve the title of master. But you just had to go run off and do your own thing again and that put your friends in danger. As such, it will be another 10 more years of training for you.

I ugly cried and sobbed. Not just because of the ending, I thought about how much this series means to people and I thought about everyone who’s passed away waiting for this entry in the series. Just incredibly emotional. I’ve seen the *epilogue and secret ending, but I feel like this is perfect even if it is sad.
As much as I loved the ending with everyone finally being reunited (even that cliffhanger ending with Sora disappearing), Nomura did our girl Kairi wrong. Everyone's reunions got me more emotional than her disappearing and Sora's scream of agony after losing her. Sora's reunion with Riku in KH2 was more impactful than him finally meeting up with Kairi, especially seeing him cry. To me, it felt forced just so they can bring some closure to Sora's and Kairi's relationship; same with the cutscene of them finally sharing a paopu fruit together. I really thought she would be able to shine, especially with her declaring she'd protect Sora and the time she took to train as keyblade weilder. She's significantly less experienced but she could've had potential to do something. But in the end, she's just used for plot convenience due to the lack of screen time and character development for her; she got a new outfit change and that was it. Even Sora had more chemistry and development with the characters from the different worlds he went to. Redeem yourself Nomura and give Kairi justice in the next game!!

I really envy everyone who cried at this ending. I just sat there, frozen, staring at the screen, with feeling of emptiness and a dull pain in my chest. Wish I knew what exactly was that feeling, I was expecting tears, lots of happy and sad tears, not this. I'm afraid I'm getting too old for this series magic.
I agree with you. Between the time that KH2 ended and the wait for KH3 began, I graduated college, found a career, found love, got married, had children and started a family...I like the game, but I feel it took too long for this game to come out.

Sora is the embodiment of a hero. He gives his entire heart out for all of those that surrounds him, even sacrificing himself for their well being, even though in this particular situation it’s for his significant other. Freaking love his character.
I remember being 8 years old and beating the second one for the first time and crying at the end. I wanted a 3rd game so bad, then we finally got it. Now Im 20 and still crying at the endings😂

If I remember correctly, Goofy's wife died. I don't think it was ever explained how. I'm not surprised it wasn't ever mention at all in kingdom hearts. Although it could simply be that it hasn't happened yet and he is still single.

After end of KH3 to save Kairi's hearts we have learn in Melody of Memory Sora disappear to a Fictional, Unreality world and that is Smash.......And then Quadratum.
Roxas talks with Terra and Aqua. Ven plays with Isa and Lea. Xion and Naminé collect shells (especially the shell that represents it) like two normal girls. I love everything. ;_;

It really is tbh. Most people give these games shit for having awful story, but if you look at it just at the core of the story and take away some of the more convoluted bits. The core of it like having a kid who has been trying to save his friends for years sacrafice himself for them to finally be happy together, is really heroic and beautiful.

- Axel and Isa move into the abandoned mansion in Twillight Town, catching up on the time they lost.
- Roxas and Xion move to the Land Of Departure to train under Master Aqua as well. Every evening they travel to Twillight Town to have ice cream with Axel, Isa, Hayner, Pence and Olette. Roxas has stopped counting days. Xion's shell collection has grown.
- Naminé has been adopted as Ansem The Wise's foster daughter. She has lost her ability to manipulate memories, but becomes a great artist, beloved by everyone in Radiant Garden. Riku visits her often.
- Hayner finally defeated Seifer and became Struggle Champion.
- Pence secretely studies Ansem's computer at the abandoned mansion, hoping to one day become his apprentice.
- Olette, glad to finally have female company, becomes good friends with Xion and helped her adjust to life as a complete person.
- The company producing custom-tailored black cloaks finally declares bankruptcy.
- Scrooge and Remy make it big in Twillight Town and open more rat-based restaurants in other worlds.
- Goofy decides to take a vacation to go on a road trip with his teenage son.
- Donald hands his role as court wizard to Merlin, to spend more time with his uncle Scrooge and his three nephews. Together they experience many new adventures, involving racecars, lasers and aeroplanes. Their life is like a hurricane.
- Mickey returns to his duties as king for a while until he goes on another quest to investigate some marvel-ous worlds and a galaxy far, far away.
- Chip and Dale get the Rangers back together.
- Jiminy Cricket travels the worlds, being a conscience for many more children and spreading the remarkable story he chronicled. He thinks nothing of the criticism that it is far too complicated and sequels take too long to come out.
- Yen Sid takes on Oswald the Rabbit as his next apprentice.
- Ansem The Wise leaves science to his apprentices and fully commits to being a kind ruler and good father to Naminé. At some point he finds a long forgotten sketch of his friend, the King, in his office, carrying the initials "W.E.D.", not knowing how it got there.
- Kairi waits for Sora to return. Their hearts are still connected.

At one point near the end, sora thought back to frozen and elsa, and in those worlds showed sacrifice. He knew what he was doing. He didn't it for all of them. 8 times, he used the power of waking and thus made him fade away. I'm guessing there will be a game, probably kiari lead, where she goes and rescues his heart. They gotta completely set up 4, so, more 3.5s to come.

I won't lie, it might seem exaggerated, but I cried with this scene, out of happiness but also some sadness (because I thought it would be the absolute end of the story). Got really emotional, man...

My favourite thing about this ending is after in-universe decades of darkness, suffering and loss, all of these people that fought and lost themselves for the light finally found peace together, but the one unfaltering beacon of hope through it all had to finally give up all the happiness he had fought to see in order for it to truly and completely exist. And he still went out smiling.

Plus Kairi will have to face her own personal and inner demons which would lead to a boss fight against herself like what Aqua went through herself but it make her stronger.

Honestly, I hope that we will get another amazing arc for him in the next installment. He has already saved Sora in the past. His dreams are connected to him somehow. KH3 neglected him as a keyblade master in my opinion. He needs to be a playable character for a great portion of the game.
Riku got cucked in KH3. Not as bad as Aqua and Kairi, he had one moment of badassery before he "died." But still pretty bad for the only one who passed in DDD and someone that was hyped up in CoM to eventually become the most powerful through mastery of both light and darkness.

@Darkest Angel yes. in BBS, ventus was separated, thus created the nobody vanitas. at the time vanitas had no face, until after ventus went into baby soras heart. around the end of bbs ventus goes back into soras heart and vanitas then takes on soras appearance. so when sora was turned into a heartless in kh1, it created the nobody roxas (ventus is inside him still) so roxas takes on ventus appearance. correct me if im wrong, my memory is iffy

He didn’t die, he just ended up in another world and couldn’t go back since he broke the rules of Power of Waking or whatever since he used it to bring Kairi back to life, he was only supposed to use it to wake people up, not fully revive them.
At 6:36 Kairi struggled to smile for Sora but after he disappeared the poor girl just couldn't hold it together no more. I hope those two will be reunited again soon.

Sora lost his heart to get back Kairi’s, but what did he have to do? Where did he have to go? How did he find her? The ending confirms a relationship but leaves us wondering what happened and if they’ll reunite again. You know Sora deserved a happy ending.
That secret ending left me with so many questions too.
This Ending was 99.9 % Perfect except for that last part. At least the Secret Ending Confirms Sora’s Return.

It's bullshit. I'm not even upset that Sora died, just confused. It would be interesting if he stayed dead but nope, the scene where he disappeared isn't sad at all because he's just gonna come right back. This game was unsatisfying and disappointing, we know almost nothing new, and we STILL don't know what's in the BOX

I hate the darkness!"

Now that I deeply watched this,
Sora was physically there.
Donald spots them and is about to happily run over until he is stopped. Even Goofy was wondering if he should go but Mickey said no.
Then everyone literally stops what they are doing and looks over at them with a look of a mixture of concern and hope -cause I am pretty sure Mickey and Yen Sid explained the stakes that Sora was betting against when he left again. They knew he wouldn't be there for long.
and what touches me here is that...we have always seen Sora treat all of his companions equally. Normally, I would expect him to share what little time he knew he had with all of them and letting them know he was going to be okay.
But no, instead he chooses to spend it with Kairi alone. Holding hands togethers watching the sunset back in their home of Destiny Islands. And he just stares at her until he fades away, probably hurting that he is leaving her crying yet again.
That is why I really wish there was dialogue shared at least between them cause of the longest time I thought Kairi was imagining Sora's presence. But it didn't explain everyone's body language and expressions. Now that I REALLY watched everyone's behaviors and observed the scene a bit more, it all makes sense that everyone saw Sora there and it was more fitting to see Riku staring at him last with an almost heartbroken look on his face cause he knew.
Maybe in the DLC we will get to do the mission where we save her and we can hear what those two said before he disappeared?

Nah, the DLC better be us saving Sora already. I won't mind playing as all the keyblade wielders to save Sora. It will be slightly poetic even. Sora saved them all before the final battle. Now we play as all to save him.

I think they made it back and sora knew he was going to disappear so they spent his last moments together. In Caribbean Jack tells him that one day is all one needs and that’s why I think kairi is smiling and crying is she got this last moment with sora before he fell into the abyss or shibuya. But our boy Riku gonna save him.

As much as I loved the ending with everyone finally being reunited (even that cliffhanger ending with Sora disappearing), Nomura did our girl Kairi wrong. Everyone's reunions got me more emotional than her disappearing and Sora's scream of agony after losing her. Sora's reunion with Riku in KH2 was more impactful than him finally meeting up with Kairi, especially seeing him cry. To me, it felt forced just so they can bring some closure to Sora's and Kairi's relationship; same with the cutscene of them finally sharing a paopu fruit together. I really thought she would be able to shine, especially with her declaring she'd protect Sora and the time she took to train as keyblade weilder. She's significantly less experienced but she could've had potential to do something. But in the end, she's just used for plot convenience due to the lack of screen time and character development for her; she got a new outfit change and that was it. Even Sora had more chemistry and development with the characters from the different worlds he went to. Redeem yourself Nomura and give Kairi justice in the next game!!

Sora is the embodiment of a hero. He gives his entire heart out for all of those that surrounds him, even sacrificing himself for their well being, even though in this particular situation it’s for his significant other. Freaking love his character.

That......doesn't even make sense, you need to have played prior game in order to get emotionaly attached to the characters in order for you to cry at this point.
After end of KH3 to save Kairi's hearts we have learn in Melody of Memory Sora disappear to a Fictional, Unreality world and that is Smash.......And then Quadratum.
Roxas talks with Terra and Aqua. Ven plays with Isa and Lea. Xion and Naminé collect shells (especially the shell that represents it) like two normal girls.

Sora’s sacrifice is more sad than iron mans in endgame
It really is tbh. Most people give these games shit for having awful story, but if you look at it just at the core of the story and take away some of the more convoluted bits. The core of it like having a kid who has been trying to save his friends for years sacrafice himself for them to finally be happy together, is really heroic and beautiful.
you're out of line, this coming for a massive kh fan. 2 completely different sacrifices. for one Sora's coming back. Tony, no he dead and dead for good. that hits different. still, I always hold kh higher up so whether one is sadder than the other is irrelevant to me. I just enjoy it while it lasts.
The saddast thing about that the game hints Sora's Destiny all the time and after the ending everything makes sense.
