  • The second incident of the day resulted from a 999 call to Derbyshire Constabulary by some walkers on Brown Knoll. They had come across another walker who they found lying on the ground with an injury to their head. The walker seemed confused about the events which had led up to the fall. Concerned the walker might not be able to continue with the walk they sensibly called for mountain rescue help.
The team members who had been carrying out kit checks at base were soon on route and the first section was able to be deployed quickly onto the hill. While making their way along the flagstone path, they met a member of the party that had come across the casualty and were able to gain further information about the incident.
After arriving at the scene some members of the section began the medical assessment of the casualty while others started to prepare an evacuation plan. It became clear that a stretcher evacuation of the patient was the most sensible option so as further team members arrived it was possible to place the casualty onto the stretcher and begin the long carry down to the road.
A drone was deployed to continue building skills amongst team members where there is an opportunity to improve the incident manager’s situational awareness, confirm locations of casualties and identify hazards.
At the road the casualty was met by our colleagues from East Midlands Ambulance Service so that a more detailed medical examination of the injuries could take place.
Equipment was then cleaned as per our Covid-19 protocols and the vehicles returned to base to continue with the kit checks.
We wish the casualty a speedy recovery and a swift return to the Peak District National Park.
