    What is the Gubber Guard? Rubber Guard with the Gi, of course. I started playing with this guard several years ago, and then saw Keenan Cornelius using the same position (much better than myself) in competition a couple years later. It is deceptively strong, controlling and offers a lot of submission options - way more than I have included in this video.
    I have started calling this the Esparza Guard as well, since my friend Raf Esparza seemed to be the one to coin the term first. Check out Raf at the Verbal Tap Podcast www.verbaltapcast.com.
    Let me know what you think of this position, and if you have had any experience with it. Try it out and I hope you like it!

    I dunno if the "Keenan stole it" is tongue-in-cheek, but as a member of his website, he claims to have learned it from someone back at Lloyd Irvin's and doesn't claim to have invented it. Either way, it's a strong position.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  5 років тому +2

      Absolutely tongue in cheek. It comes from multiple discussions with Raf from Verbal Tap podcast and the idea of plagiarism in martial arts. Long story, but all aside, Keenan does this guard better than anyone else and can call it whatever he wants.

      J80 - this is a sport competition move. It works well for that. Some people enjoy the sport. Wrestling is also a sport. If you don’t like this then stop watching and trolling my channel, dude.

    • @slimelord314
      @slimelord314 5 років тому +1

      @J80 wrestling in important but pure wrestlers get beat by BJJ all the time in the UFC. They panic from their back. I don't see wrestling as a complete martial art, but as a good base for all martial arts. And I don't see BJJ as the solution to everything but it is pretty good at dealing with the ground--where most fights end up going.
