I had my heart set on getting the Palma when this was announced so I'm pretty excited to learn more about this device. I have a ton of graphic design-related articles saved on Pocket so a color e-reader would be more ideal for me.
Should be great for that! Tune in for the livestream!
For the full review: Comparison with the Page would be nice - I am curious how the screen looks with the lights completely turned off on the two - is Go still readable without the brightness cranked up? Its weight with the case on would be nice to know as well. Also, if you could comment on the screen glare, how noticeable is it? Thanks
My favorite part of the Boox Go 7 Color is hearing Kit say "Old Money" Boox. I never hear it being used, just read about the term, so it just feels neat hearing it in kind of a casual use.
We do sure have weird ways of saying things, Gov'ner.
It doesn't come with a stylus but does it support using a generic wacom stylus?
Can you maybe mention a few compare / contrasts with the Bigme S6 Color +?
Water resistant, color and SD card support is really punching all of the buttons on what I want.
I was also looking at the Palma but I think this will be the one I want to go for. The white is 🔥
The Kobo Libra Colour is my favorite e-reader right now. So light, comfortable, and has none of the distractions of my Boox devices while a couple features make it more flexible than a Kindle--like checking books out directly from my library through the device/Overdrive, sideloading other epubs, connecting Google Drive or Dropbox, and using the Pocket app to read saved articles offline. The notebook features are crap but I don't care about using it for that anyway :)
Oh Snap!!!! Been waiting for this!
When you do your review, please can you share if this allows split screen for two apps simultaneously?
I’d like to have my calendar and todo list next to me on an e-reader while I’m working to help keep me focused.
I use Microsoft heavily, so would love to see Microsoft todo, alongside outlook in calendar mode with ‘todays’ appointments.
While you’re at it, I’d love to see that arrangement on other devices (e.g Note Air 3C, go 10.3).
Thank you. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
I'm looking forward to your full review!
Looking forward to making it!
Pretty basic question, but do the pageflip buttons work in different reading apps or just the build in one? And hiw long does tge battery last?
Please do a video comparing this and Bigme b751 color!
Keen to see how the colour screen goes for simple reading
Yep, will be testing that out loads in the near future.
Noice one. I would be interested in how the e-ink modes work on that device without BSR, how the web surfing experience is and what a video playback (e.g., UA-cam) would look like.
What it's like compared to Bigme B751C? It's also eink Android tablet with 7 inch Kaleido 3 display.
I will not be getting one, but if I were in the market for a new small e-reader, I would heavily consider it for sure
Same
Thanks so much! It's not cheap though, but yeah, it could be a very versatile choice!
Pretty sure I am gonna order this in black very very soon - shifting away from Kindles to Android eReaders so I can access multiple stores, the library etc. Also my Kindle reviews are the most popular videos on my channel so I will definitely be doing a big review on this!
I was thinking about the Palma, but am very interested in this one now. I like the idea of color and a larger size.
Yeah! I think it's a choice a lot of people are going to be weighing up!
I'll look forward to bringing some more complete thoughts. 🙂
I have Boox Leaf 2 but rarely use it because the Kindle app frequently crashes. With the Go 7 Color using Android 12, do you believe it will run apps better?
This will pick up the people who miss the kindle oasis form factor, but for reading books colour isn't necessary and I like smaller for portable comfort. Kobo clara BW is the best small e reader available right now. Rocking that carta 1300.
This might be best small e ink tablet.
Thanks, interesting stuff. I'm also more that slightly won over by then having a page from. Hornblower on their web page for that ereader.... Hmmm. 🤔.
Kobo Clara BW has a great screen but I don't like the slippery cheap plastic casing, and obviously it is limited to reading ebooks.
I really don't understand the Go branding. One device has frontlights, color, no pen support. The other has no frontlight, b&w and pen support.
What do they have in common that it makes sense to consider them part of one series?
Great video! Do you know of any small eReaders (comparable in size to the Paperwhite so I can fit it in my pocket) that come with a stylus and only offer reading (epub) and note taking (no distractions like browsers or other apps)?
Boox Go Color 7 or Bigme B751C?? Does Onyx support a kobo stylus??
Welcome
You must have seen the new Onyx Go
Actually, I liked it very much. It is a device with light weight, thin thickness, and a high screen resolution, but what made me hesitant after all this time of waiting is that it does not contain lighting. Any advice? Especially since the Note Air 3 is currently at the same price, but despite this I still love it. Go10.3 more
i just bought a kindle scribe but i might just return it and get this for the same price and it's in color
I just bought the Kobo Libra Colour but the Go Color 7 in white might end up in my possession as well.
I'm hearing great things about the Kobo Libras.
Im torn between the kobo libra colour and the boox go 7 color, would lovw to know how they compare if anyone has any insight! Ofc a big pro of the boox one is the open android system, but i dont think it supports any kind of stylus? And not sure how it holds up battery and user friendliness wise
I bought the Libra Color yesterday. Honestly.. I hate it. The increased thickness on the side with the buttons is supposed to help with grip, but ends up just hurting my hand after a while. Compared to my Paperwhite (2015), it just doesn’t match up in terms of comfort. Going to send it back.
I only stumbled on this Go 7 video this morning. Might well be the replacement unit. I’m only worried how the 3 years of promised support will stack up against the 9 years I got out of my Paperwhite. Would love to see that addressed in your review @KitBetss-Masters.
Yay!!! Glad to see you've got your hands on the Go Color 7!!!
I agree with your assessment that this is going to be possibly the BEST pure eReader available on the market!
My questions that I have! Are gestures working fine for you? At the moment, only my rest side gesture is working.
My other questions are related to 3rd party apps like Kindle and Marvel Unlimite. I have not been able to get third party optimization to allow page turn buttons to work ANNNND have not been able to get it to auto-refresh after each page turn as I personally like to do when reading comics.
I'm curious if these are issues with just my device or if others are experiencing them.
I will be keeping an eye out for a live stream from you with the Go Color 7 in the near future!
Keep up the great work on this channel Kit! You rock! 😁
Thanks Steven. I think that there are firmware updates on the way! Fingers crossed, but it's a bummer that it wasn't working as you expected out of the box!
@KitBetts-Masters I'm looking forward to the updates. I'm remembering that I think I had similar - but much more minor - issues with Boox Leaf when it was new. The page turn buttons were hit or miss initially, but they sorted that out fairly quickly. So I imagine this should be quick as well. I have been waiting for this eReader for quite some time! I pure colour Kaleido 3 Boox or Bigme (but preferably Boox) that has page turn buttons! 🤩
@KitBetts-Masters UPDATE Boox just launched a firmware update for the Go Color 7! It has fixed gestures 🤩. Still no auto-refresh or page turn buttons in third party apps. But having gestures back is super positive to see! 😁
Good afternoon Monsieur,
can we expect a future 10.3 coloured GO
and what difference does front-lit and non-front-lit make
you just described the Note Air 3C, which is out now.
I wish you had compared the Boox GO 7 and Page with the frontlight off!
Hiya, I'll add that to the things I'll cover in a livestream.
Hello. I’d be curious to know if it has speech to text? I have dyslexia & this is always an accessibility issue with eReaders. I’m glad it has a built in speaker, like the pocketbook era colour, but it’s unfortunate many eReaders don’t offer an efficient & accessible option for speech text, with ease & not having to do gestures. One that simply reads text on pages & not like the screen reader option (like on Kindle) that reads EVERYTHING on the page, including the menu, what’s on the buttons & that there’s images & doesn’t highlight the text as it reads etc
Im disabled and really curious about this as well. Its a big neccessity for me
@@TessKanters I wish some content creators talked about specs throughly. I do understand that people only talk about things that appeal to them & benefits them. I also realise there is a lower percentage of the world population needing the accessibility features, but the lack of information is daunting. It’s a lot to research. I learned of the BigMe B571C reader. I believe based in Asia if you wanted to look into that. And it has speech to text I believe.
@@BoxOfShockolates Yeah we're definitely in the minority of (certain) accessibility features being make or break for if we can even use a product. it would be amazing if those things were more widely discussed and considered in general reviews!! Also it companies advertised those features more. Like you said, it's a lot of energy and time into doing the detective work yourself and im not all that tech savvy either about stuff like e readers. Thank you so much for the recommendation though, I'll take a look :) Hope I can get it shipped to Europe
@@tesskanters3070 fucking for real. 😭 the “detective work”. It is tedious. I’ve experienced brain fog these past couple of days going on a deep dive, essentially a scavenger hunt, over this. 😅 💀 it is slim-pickin’s for accessibility needs. If I could provide a longer list options, I would:
Boox Go Color 7, Pocketbook Era Color & the BigMe B751C are the only 7” colour eReaders I’ve found so far that for sure have speech-to-text & built-in speaker. You simply press play & the pages are read to you. That’s what I’m looking for. I only want simple. I don’t want workarounds or hacks. Just work as is. Though I’m not exactly tech illiterate, I don’t want tech that is laborious to navigate. I like intuitive, user-friendly interfaces, or my neurodivergence will liquify LOL
I try not to overthink operating systems too much with eReaders & have to keep in mind that switching ecosystems is not impossible, as well as converting book formats. There seems to be tools for that. It will just require a little effort, but the other two colour readers are the Kobo Clara Colour and Libra 2. Unfortunately, they only have the audiobook feature, no speech-to-text & are Bluetooth only. They have so much potential, esp for their price point. I gave feedback on this that they said they’d pass along.
The BigMe is the only of the 3 I namedropped earlier that has stylus feature for the price range if that matters to you. But a content creator said the rotating screen feature is kind of buggy. I hope something will ship to your country as well for you. I really do think the Pocketbook and Boox are Europe based? Don’t quote me on that. But I’m in USA, so I’ve wondered the same about shipping.
*Doesn't the Bigme B751C trump it with its pen input?*
Granted, it isn't Wacom but if you're on the move and just need to jot down something fast, what does the Boox have over it?
I've been thinking about this because I was thinking about selling my NBA2+ as I rarely use it, and getting a small coloured device for web-searches and jotting down notes while on the go.
Both are great devices but as the prices are roughly the same, size to with both having colour and access to Goggle Play, either I'm missing something or the Bigme is the better option?
I’m also between the two. I’ve heard Bigme software is a little clunky but has less ghosting and pen input is nice. Would love to see a comparison video showing color and ghosting comparison
@@maggedmagged1 As I understand it, the Bigme B751C has access to the Play Store so the App software in most cases might be the same as the BooxGo, such Kindle, Browsers and the UA-cam app, but what I find gives it the edge is that in a pinch, you can jot down a quick note whereas you have no option with the Boox device.
I'm finding that monochrome is fine for reading text but when you start using apps in the Play Store you're at a disadvantage, which is why I really don't use my Notebook Air 2+ as much as I thought I would, but jump straight on my Mac and use the Supernote A5X for study and note taking. Thing is, I can probably sell my Notebook Air 2 on eBay for around the same price as the Bigme B751C so I should really go for it.
@@maggedmagged1 biggest issue (for me) with the Bigmes is the worse battery life.
@@martinranger2433 How long are you getting usage between each charge?
how does this compare to the Page... TIA
Will you be receiving the 10.3 for early review as well? If so, any ETA?
Yep. I have the tracking number. My bet is Tuesday.
Exciting. Will be checking for your preview / review of that one.
Waiting for comparison with Boox Page and Boox Tab Mini C😊
Yep, should do at least one of these live in a few minutes!
Does it have google play store?
Does it support Wacompen? The pen is not the default configuration, but can I use it when I buy a pen separately?
No.
No sorry, no Wacom digitiser on the screen.
When they say dual color front lights do they really mean that? So far on all the books If you shift it from white to the warmer color it actually darkens the screen slightly and I have yet to see the screen light up using only the " warm light" it doesn't light the screen out at all it just simply modifies the cold light.
This one different? 1:52
Interesting. I can show the lights in a bit more detail on the live stream. I suppose maybe the 50% cold 50% warm would be both at half brightness. And I suppose that would equate to actually being dimmer than full cold or full warm.
Can you write on this with a stylist to annotate? The kobo app has me sold on being able to annotate on the page, but I have a lot of Libby and Kindle books.
No, no stylus here.
@@KitBetts-Masters oh it was so close to prefect!!!!
Unless you need a color screen, I don't see how this is necessarily better than the Boox Page. There seems to be a basic tradeoff between a newer version of Android plus more RAM and a brighter screen, less need for front light and therefore better battery life.
I know it says no pen support, can you confirm it doesn't work tho? Would be super cool with a pen IMHO. The Note and Tab series are priced to high for my taste
It doesn't work. Fo'sho.
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks for testing that out. Time to wait for a better deal or a refresh on the Tab Mini C for me then!
How about comparing with tab mini c?
Yeah, that's been one of my first thoughts here. BSR Vs not. Will have as a quick look in the livestream probably Sunday.
Look forward to it! @@KitBetts-Masters
This one or Note Air 3?
They're very different devices. This one is only for reading really.
How waterproof is it ?
I'd say it'll probably not dunk well. But splash proof I think you'll be ok. I don't know why they don't give an IPXX rating.
I don't see the point of those small ereaders anymore if they're not pocketable.
Boox Palma is a solid e-reader that is the size of a phone. I use it as my daily driver when it comes to reading books and web novels. Not the best when it comes to reading comic/manga beside web manga where it's a scroll.
I'm very much looking forward to an eink phone. I think that will be grade A pocketability and just naturally slip in to being your always there reader.
@@KitBetts-Masters Im looking forward to it as well. Palma is nearly there with solid battery life when set to airplane mode for offline reading. Would be amazing to see a future version of it with esim or sim card capabilities
Shame not to be compatible with a stylus pen, small pictures for social media is a thing. Easier for scaling on a smaller screen
Just ordered it from Amazon to give to kid too avoid UA-cam
