"HEY PAULA" Paul and Paula 1963 - HQ STEREO

- This song and video can be found in quite an abundance throughout the You Tube playlists. It is such a powerfully enticing melody and so I felt it mandatory to add to Great Performers.
Songwriter, Ray Hildebrand was Paul. "Paula" was Jill Jackson, the niece of the owner of the boarding house where Ray lived at the time. This 1963 song had simple words and a lingering melody however, it was one of those melodies that just 'stayed with you'; so much so that it practically topped every music chart in early 1963.
I’m listening to this in April 2024……who else is??
Here, it's a classic!
I am…..I was 13 and my dad bought me a transistor radio and I would listen to it at night . My sister was 10 years younger than me and we shared a room . She would always tell me to turn it off or she was going to tell on me. Years later we laughed ourselves silly with this memory. I miss her so very much ….she passed away in 2020 from pancreatic cancer.
Just a few short years later I was in viet Nam and married to my lady, that was our song.
I/m here and was a kid when this was on the radio.
I'm listening as I type this. Will be a fantastic song forever and a day.
I am Paul and my wife was Paula. We were married on Sept. 18, 1971. Paula died on January 17, 2021, eight months before our 50th anniversary from complication of Multiple Sclerosis. "Hey Paula" was one of our favorite songs and invariably, whenever we were introduced to new friends, this song would be their first association with Paula and myself. We had a fairy tail romance for five decades in spite of the MS because Paula had a magical personality full of joy, love, humor, optimism, and hope. She was a high school teacher beloved by all of her students who invited her to every reunion, wedding, graduation, and banquet. We had true love. Moreover she was truly loved by everyone who knew her and we all miss her and will love her in our hearts and souls forever.
I am very sorry for your loss.
@@susansprouse1694 Thank you, Susan. On this Christmas day, your thoughts are especially meaningful.
I’m soo for your lost. Such a beautiful story, did you have any children?

Wow, what a lucky man you are to have had such a loving life. In the blink of an

I’m Paul my wife was Paula. This was our wedding song and our song. Next week is our wedding anniversary. She died 3 months ago from cancer. I miss her so much. I’m 40 years old, we were together for 20 years we really did have true love. I still love you more everyday Paula. Xxxxx

I was 14 when I first heard this song. It captivated me and today at 72 it still occupies a place in my heart.
True love like this can stand the test of time.
I’m 14 right now! I love this song but it gets me down that most kids my age don’t like older music. What were the 50s/60s like?

Listen to the music.
En 1963, j'avais 15 ans et maintenant à 73 ans, j'aime toujours entendre cette chanson qui me rappelle tant de souvenirs .... 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I´m 44 now... This and all the others from that era and movies like American Grafitti, Grease and the lot where a huge part of my life between
I´d say ages 12 - 20 ... I had countless records and CDs with 50s and 60s music... Still love it, although I´d call myself a metal head :)
And this song here is the prime example for why I fell in love with that era´s music
we danced to Paul & Paula the day we got married, And 50 years later at our Golden wedding Anniversary.
You lucky time line you.
I bet many people envy your happiness bless you both
Just so sweet Ronnie, I hope you are both still dancing to this every year

You don’t hear angelic voices like that anymore. Beautiful.
They both have very beautiful voices!!!!!! Probably because they're beautiful...good old music 🎵👍🎶👍😘💕💞🌹
Because there is no real talent in Hollywood anymore. It's in the small churches.
So beautifully sung, their music timeless❤️

The reason these old songs make me cry is because of how the world was as to how it us now Its so wicked an evil. An everyday i hear another child has been unmolested an in a dumpster. These songs take me back when the world was much safer an we enjoyed the little things in life.Family was priority
Hello, how are you doing today and the entire family and friends doing today I really enjoy this song momma favorite lol lol momma and daddy.....
This was our song when we were courting, we have been married 56years. Makes me very emotional to hear it. Different world then, different values, a time of innocence compared to today.
Bless you
I totally 💯 agree with you, John. I only listen to the oldies, with a big smile. So many good memories. Starting at 6 years old, my father taught me to dance to Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller while standing on his feet. It was my earliest introduction to music and when I hear their songs, it totally puts me in a good mood. Thanks Daddy!👨👧💃🏻👣💞
❤️
You are so right John.
I know what you mean, John. Makes me nostalgic for those 'good old days!'
Today's youth need to be educated with songs like this.
Absolutely! They need the education in a lot of things.
i been married sence 1990 paula and patrick
@Robin Holgate so your say im a liar ? we got married 4/6/1990
@Robin Holgate i don't care in the usa everyone has a wright to their own option
no need to be so scoldy, gramps, today's youth have their own music --- how would you have liked to have had Rudy Valee shoved down your throat when you were young?
I hear songs like this and it’s depressing. It reminds me of how my children and grandchildren will never see how wonderful life once was in this country. The true love, morality, civility, and self control we had back then. We were classy, and decent. And it showed in how we treated each other. And how we carried ourselves. We are now a nasty, selfish, vulgar society. Irreversibly damaged by evil. Goodbye America.
Not so fast says Lee Corso, God has a plan, who went into the promiseland, the youth with leaders. Not one child shall pass in the future and say that was a cruel joke!!!💕✝️🕊🙏👑🐐
I agree this culture is sickening but we must fight on. God gave us a beautiful life and country and I will fight to the last breath for my grandchildren to have the lives we had
Thank you for those replies. Shortly after posting my comment, I was reminded by someone close to me that our children and grandchildren were put in this place at this time because of Gods divine plan. My prayer is that they are part of the generations that end all this evil and restore the beauty of Gods creation.

One of the greatest, most underrated songs ever!
underrated? it was a No. 1 hit record ... why do you people insist on leaving that absurd "underrated" comment on every post on youtube?
Ray Hildebrand was 82 when he died on Fri. Aug. 18, 2023. He was 22 when this classic love ballad made that year that much more memorable in the pop music scene, now just over 60 years ago! #1 for the first week ending Feb. 9, 1963, and for 3 consecutive weeks. Also #1 on the R&B chart. #1 on the Canadian CHUM chart for 3 consecutive weeks. One of the year's highlight songs. "Paula" was Jill Jackson, the niece of the owner of the boarding house where Ray lived. Ray wrote the song, taking inspiration from Annette Funicello's 1959 hit, "Tall Paul" her highest-charting hit, at #7. The song was again popularized in the movie, "Animal House" (1978), set in 1962/63 when Boon (Peter Riegert) and Katy (Karen Allen) sang it to each other while high. Eric Forman (Topher Grace) sang the song to his girlfriend Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon) during a friend's party in "That 70s Show." A timeless classic. R.I.P., Ray Hidlebrand, 82 (Dec. 21, 1940 - Aug. 18, 2023). Jill Jackson survives him, (b. May 20, 1942), now 81. It was released in 1962 but became a number one hit in the Bill Board charts by February 1963.Paul and Paula were barely in their early twenties when it became a hit.Clearly an all time favourite duet song.
The song defined the winter of '62-'63 for many of us young teenagers.
RIP Ray Hildebrand. Love the song, "Hey Paula". Love and Prayers from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸🙏🕊🌹
I love this song so much and pretty much all oldies from the 50’s and 60’s. I’m 29 years old but my dad played me this and other old songs. They always resonated with me on a deep level as if I was not a 90’s kid but a teenager in the time of this music. I feel it with every fiber of my being and hear it with more than my ears. I also enjoy classic movies, even black and white. I’m an old soul and I love that God made me this way.

I just heard that "Paul" passed away and that his name was Ray Hildebrand. This song came out when I was 5 years old. It was recorded here in Fort Worth so it was a really big deal to us. It makes me remember my brother driving around in his 1956 Buick convertible with his arm around his girlfriend while this song played on the radio. (It was their song.) I was the little sister in the back seat ruining the moment by singing along. R.I.P. to Ray.
All time classic and a great song 🎵 too so beautiful, *** western Australia 🇦🇺

A great song from a time when our country was a lot more innocent. I don't remember when it was a hit but nonetheless have always like it a lot. I read that the song's composer Ray Hilderbrand passed away today and is also the lead singer on the song. So I came to listen to this golden oldie and pay my respects to him.
