    The ideal MacBook choices:
    - M1/M2 Air for non-professionals or professionals with a light CPU intensity workload. Kids, blue collar adult workers, and grandparents are the best for this product. Add writers and journalist.

Hi! I'm hesitating between the M3chip and the M3Pro chip. I think the M3 chip would fit my needs but I really like the Space Black color and it fits my budget. However, I noticed some white lines linked to the use of the thunderbolts... Also, it has a 18hrs battery life, against a 22hrs one for the M3chip. What would you advise me to do? Thank you !! @akin242002

I bought the 14” M1 Pro back in 2021 and so far it has been a solid computer. I am currently doing my PhD in Mechanical Engineering so that was my motivation to buy it. I mainly use it for programming (XCode), data post processing (Matlab, Paraview), presentations, pdfs, and everything in between. I am able to keep 5-6 desktops consistently open (and countless programs) with no slow in performance. It is also very convenient having every gadget between the Apple ecosystem. A really good buy

You said a bunch of nothing. No testing, no original data, just gave rhetoric that we could all give if we had to come up with it on the spot. For example, there are videos where people actually compare Final Cut render times between the M3 vs M2, and found no difference. You need to put more effort into videos to truly offer value.

Can anyone explain why the M3 Macbook Pro has a 58ms screen response time. To put that in perspective, my Lenov Legion 7i has a 3ms screen response time. I know folks do not normally game on a mac, but if one has any fast paced video, the frames will blur. I was watching basketball via my then M3 Macbook Pro and the screen was blurry. I then proceeded to return the device.

@@oj6633 If you open up Docker or VM, 32gb is not enough with all honesty.
Professional software engineer here. At the workplace, the Macbook I use is regularly using basically all the RAM (generally like 29~31.8 gb out of 32) and 28 gb of swap file when I am not compiling.
When I compile locally on deprecated codebases, the swap can go to like 50 gb.
      It's a huge performance bottleneck.
Docker when it comes to coding eats your memory like no tomorrow. And with the software engineering field becoming more competitive, playing with docker might become more necessary for college students who are ambitious in this career.

It also depends on your climate. Where I live, in the summers it can get as HOT as 108 F. Das hot. My iphone gets all warm in that kinda weather and I really won't even be doing much on it. I could only imagine having a MacBook Air, probably would not be good. M1, M2 or M3 are all good if your a student. Get AT LEAST 16GB of RAM, you won't regret it. Unlike M1 or M2, the M3 can be put on 'low power mode' which would extend your battery life by like a few hours maybe AND you wouldn't really even notice any performance slow downs. I would say get the PRO for sure.

I'm not sure if you've had similar experiences but I purchased an M3 Pro (top config) to replace my M1 Air (top config) and had very disappointing results.
I primarily use Final Cut Pro for work video files, and rendering a 15 minute video at 4K H.264 with color correction and a few layers only resulted in SMALL gains for M3 Pro.
    M3 Pro export: 7:40 seconds
    M1 export: 8:30 seconds
Really disappointed with the lack of real performance gains from my M1 to M3 Pro ): Love the screen, speakers, build, I/O, but I personally can't justify $2500 for 1 minute of improved rendering time ):
Unfortunately, it appears Apple hasn't really updated the encoder engines since M1. The only way for me to achieve real performance gains on MacBooks is to get an M1 Max, M2 Max, or M3 Max, since these have double the encoder amounts.
