The "Short and Evocative" and largely Homebrew mindset is super appealing to me, Theros sounds like a great resource to get started on epic homebrew adventures!
As DM loving this book for the ideas it can bring to the worldbuilding table, but as you said the player side of the book is lacking it needs more classes, races and magic items options. A good book to team Mythic Odysees of Theros up with is the "Odyssey of the Dragonlords" to get that full mythic Greece fantasy setting feeling. As DM I would pull the player options from both books and set the campaign in Mythic Odysees of Theros. Right awesome work like always and can't wait to see what you drop next :)
@@lisagaughan7154 Sound like your playing going have a lot of fun and sorry for the late reply. Hope you all enjoying the campaign world of "Theros" :)
@@lisagaughan7154 Very nice like your idea a lot and going add that to my DM "Tome of Stole Ides" hehe. Glad you all have an awesome time together. Keep up the amazing work. :)
Thank you for taking the time to make that many detailed videos about this and for your honest opinion. I honestly am very tempted to take at least parts of it for my homebrew game. I already did something like the Supernatural Gifts but new ideas are always welcome.
I'm not in any particular rush to buy this book, but I do like a lot of ideas it offers, and when I do start buying books about settings this one is probably at the top of the list. So excited to get my hands on this book! I've been thinking of starting a green myth inspired campaign for a little while now, and it sounds like this will help immensely!
Very well structured review! So gload I found your channel! Thanks to you I made the switch to Wonderdraft from my free Inkarnate account. Though this will not be a supplement for me atm, since one of the core pillars and reason for a lot of the conflict in my current world is the disappearance of gods. I will probably give it a look in the future, possibly when creating a prequel for my current setting. Keep up the great work!
This quarantine has done put me in a position to find new wonderful channels like yours. Now I'm an owner of both Wonderdraft and Dungeondraft and working on developing my own custom asset packs for both, based on my own campaign world.
Hearing you talk about the use of the gods in Theros and actually wanting to run the setting makes me really want the book, definitely gonna pick up now!
Great videos! Theros week was really nice, and really helped me look at Theros differently. I prefer DMing my own homebrew settings as well, so I only pick up setting books that I find really interesting to use as inspiration. However, while I was really looking forward to player options in Theros, and despite being disappointed in that regard, the piety and the gods, along with all the mechanics that come with them, got me pretty hyped. I don't think I'll pick up the book right now, but maybe sometime in the future.
I bought Mythic Odysees of Theros before watching this review and I feel about the same way as the video. If you want a Greek mythology inspired campaign, its great, otherwise just buy the pieces you are interested in instead of the whole book.
I've really liked your series reviewing theros it does exactly what a good review should, some personal opinions what's included and whether it's worth your time/money! Edit: any chance of a quick video of your opinion of an Eberron book?
I appreciate your review of this book. It was well thought out and thorough. I've been a subscriber for a while, and I just want to say thanks for all you do.

Agree with your review. I did buy it. I am going to work on some supplementary homebrew that fleshes out the spots that are missing! I do think this is the type of setting that would greatly benefit from legacy items, gifts from the gods, that grow with you as you level up and eventually become artifact level.
Some cool stuff, but not a product I would use for my games. I've had my fill of high magic settings, and prefer a lower, more "13th Warrior" style setting. I did pick up a similar product, Odyssey of the Dragonlords, which is Greek influenced, and have been awaiting the availability of POD for Svilland, the Norse influenced setting.
First video of yours I watched and I appreciate the succinct review! I'm entering the competition but I'm not equipped for digital play right now...just use this as a chaos entry and skip to pick someone else 😉
Damn that shirt is nice! I've pre-ordered the Hardback book purely out of curiousity - I still haven't found the bravery to start DMing... :S But it looks like it'll have some interesting content if nothing else. I love reading things from the Greek/Roman mythos and then the projects/ideas that can spin off of them. I think your review has confirmed that I should keep my Pre-order. Plenty of stuff peaks my interest! p.s. Woohoo - I see my name! :D
Go for it! :) I am pretty bad concerning voices, but my friends have fun nonetheless. I however found a complete module easier as a starting DM, as I struggled a bit with a complete worldbuilding. May be different for different people tho!
I have been considering running a Greek mythology based game for some years now, but I have decided this is the source book to get the campaign under way. Ordered my copy today.
I feel like it's a great book for a campaign/party that focuses heavily on the Religious aspect of things and the benefits/drawbacks of trying to please them. But other than that I feel like it's a slightly underwhelming book, primarily because I was kinda hoping for there to be more mythic monsters to use for campaigns. But I guess I gotta stick with the limited options for now
Thanks for giving a review on this book, I've been really interested in the book and it seems like something I will want. Uhh can I enter for the third place prize? xD Glad to see you growing.
If you already own the PHB, DMG, MM, and Xanathar's you've got pretty much everything you need from a rules standpoint, so you only need to pick up books that excite you from a story point of view. This and curse of strahd are the only two books I would personally consider picking up outside the core 4.
Strahd has up until now been the only official setting/module that's made me want to play it. Most of the others don't feel like they have enough of a unique hook to get me interested. But Theros drew me in pretty much straight away.
