Gotta love the old IH tractors,,, that's what I grew up on!!
Me too my dad had a 756 a 826 a 966 a 1086 and a1466 but he swore by the Gleaner combines
great to see the days of what the Real Farmer ran and not the huge equipment that is today the normal,Love the Older, may not look as flashy but was a Hell of alot more affordable then then todays new tractors
When I was a kid the 66 series were new. I like finding the classics at work to film and share.
bigtractorpower I’m glad you do because in 15 years or less videos like this are going to be the only way to see how farming used to be
@@johnpats7024 your on the money John, hate to see it happen, but guess they call that progress,Id rather not see it with all the EPA BS on the tractors and equipment, exhaust sytem is half the cost of the equipment ya buy,sad for sure, keep up the awesome work on the videos
Old Muscle still flexing!
👍👍
This brings back memories from 1978. My granddad bought one new when they first came out. I bring up 1978 as I was in FFA and our chapter from Greenwich, Oh. had 5 acres we farmed. 2 other John Deere with 5 bottom and mine with 5 bottom moboard that year then we all three came back with disc and spring tooths. Long time ago for me. Our farm was gone in 1979 and I was off to the Navy. I miss farming.
Great history of machines. The 70’s were a great time to farm.
Thanks for showing some of the earlier tractors and equipment. The stuff I used back in the day!!
I grew around 66 series tractors. They were brand new when I was a kid. I enjoy finding the classics at work out in the field.
Beautiful condition for it's age, thanks for this delivery
It’s a nice tractor.
Love the old IH tractors no computers or DEF and a man could fix it thanks for bringing the old stuff love the videos
👍👍👍👍
Got a 1971 white stripe sitting in the yard now, only has around 3500 hours on it. Mainly use it for bush hogging, disking, grading roads, just around the house stuff. The pink insulation in the top of the ROPS is replacing some sort of thick stuff put in by IH, it was painted white. Over the years rust got behind it and it started falling down the back of your shirt , top of your head everywhere. So one day I just stopped and got a scraper and scraped it all out and glued some rubber insulation back to it.
Replaced the weights on the front with a 150 gallon tank for a sprayer.
With the 6 volt batteries you have to park it on a hill in the winter to let it roll start or it will burn the battery posts off, ask me how I know, lol. Converted to 12 volt.
Ours has the High Low 4 speed transmission. Still have most of the first equipment we bought for it, 14 ft JD TW disk, 5 bottom JD breaking plow, 16ft AC field cultivator and a set of snap-on duels.
Great tractor but with a straight exhaust pipe hearing protection is a must.
Ok really loved this video. These are the tractors I grew up watching in the field across the street from my childhood home
Me too. My neighbor bought a ‘76 1066 new. He still has it today. Watched it plow, disk and Forage harvest for years.
Glad to see some older, smaller equipment videos. I worked on a farm in high school and we had a 656 (I believe). It was a great tractor. Mostly used for plowing up peanuts.
Grew up on a farm with Farmall 806s as the main field tractors. I enjoyed this video. Well done btp!
Very cool. The 806 is a tough tractor.
Old school farming.. Great video BTP.
I noticed the GPS is the same as the one I used when I was a kid. Put the front tire in the back tire track! Lol
Thank you for watching. I like finding classics like this to film.
Old school 😊
👍👍
Those old boys had it rough on open stations. Great stuff.
50 years ago open stations were the norm and cabs were on the rare side to see.
Thanks for this video. I grew up on a 966 with a cab (no air conditioning!). I remember that sound.
The IH DT engines have a great sound. Did you have a red or a white cab 966?
bigtractorpower. We had a white cab. Very noisy. I kept the cab closed in the field to keep the dust out. I also had to wear ear muffs for the noise.
I did have a ear bud though listening to either WLS out of Chicago, WKZI in Casey, IL , or KMOX listening to the Cardinals.
The worse option was a 560 or 504 with umbrellas.
It’s always great to see some old classic tractors out there in the field working away
👍👍
I worked the 966 Hydro back in the 70th early 80th, planting, cultivating & spaying Cotton, Corn, Wheat, Sunflowers ect. Great tractor for farming back then, but replaced by the JD Iron Horses, while this one went to the Dairy part of the opperation.
Great history. Thank you for sharing.
Beautifull tractor! 👌
Nice old tractor's, boy wished we had them planting conditions had 3 and half inches yesterday
I am sorry it has been so wet in so many places this spring. It was a steer spring here in Kentucky but crops got in and river ground is just wrapping up.
First time I have heard of an eleven row planter. ODD in that respect.
It plants 15 ft of crop on 15 inch rows where if they were planting corn it would plant 15ft of six 30 inch rows. Soybean planters are always an odd number of rows like 23 rows on 30ft, 31 rows on 40ft and 47 rows on 60ft.
I’d love to see more 70’s vintage tractors of all colors. It would be good to see some AC 220’s, D21, etc since AC in its purest form is no longer around.
Featured an AC 7040 this week at m.ua-cam.com/video/KBwB7XppFq0/v-deo.html An AC D21 is top on my wish list to film and feature on the channel. Unfortunately so far I have never found a D21 or 220 in the field. Hopefully I will get a chance to find some big orange sometime.
Good equipment rite there not a pile of computer chips
I like finding classic iron to share.
Ya listos para esperar las lluvias Exelente como siempre saludos
😁👍
cool!
Great video and information
966 was the first "big" tractor I ever drove. It had snap on duals and was open station with a canvas canopy top. I was 14 and thought it was the biggest tractor. Pulled a 4 bottom plow 9 shank chistle plow 4 row planters and a 13 foot harrow with it. Wish I could find a new one for 18.000 today.
66 series has got to be one of my all time favorite tractor lines.
Mine too. 👍👍
@@bigtractorpower The first house I lived in when I was little they farmed with a 966 and 1066. I came upon it honestly lol.
International forever!!! Great vídeo btp!!!👍🚜💓
👍👍 Go IH. Thank you for watching.
I have a 1780 8/15 awesome bean planter but a pain in the ass getting down the road
They are wide. What do you run your 1780 with?
cool tractor
👍👍
He trucking along pretty good
👍👍
International tractors are one of best I have a 856 and still in good sheip
Cool. The 856 is a solid tractor.
Ran a 1066 with a Year-Round cab as a kid. Good tractor, but man was it loud in that cab.
I have heard to after market cabs were noisy on a 66. I had a neighbor who bought a 76’ 1066 with a Hiniker cab and they removed it after one season and went to open station.
I just love the tractors from the late 60's to early 70's and the 66 and 86 series tractors look really good
They sure do. I like finding the classics to share.
I love our 966, something that we can fix if it has an issue, unlike our new tractors with the computers on them that require other computers to fix them, we still use our 966 for pto work like the blower, the old ih tractors have amazing pto horsepower
👍👍👍
I believe the 966 and 1066 were offered with the hydrostatic transmission until the hydro 100 came about. I’m not sure how that all worked out.
My uncle has an original black stripe 966 open station he bought brand new. Still has the original paint and decals. Clock has rolled over atleast once though as he uses it to this day for everything. He finally had to replace the clutch and TA a few years back. It’s been a damn good tractor for him.
Yes they did. The Hydro 66 models saw about a year of production and then the Hydro 100 split the difference between them.
Wow that's interesting I didn't realize you could take all those options off I thought that was all standard equipment on those old Reds 1974 Dodge Charger SE was 4000 so it sounds like if you strip that tractor you could have got it for 9
I know of a farm that has a 966 Hydrostatic on it.Like the styling of the 766-1566 tractors
The 66 series had a great look. 👍
Very good condition. It's look an old Oliver and here in Brazil there was a tractor called CBT Tractor Brazilian Company based on the Olivers.
The Oliver 55 and IH 66 tractors do have a similar look. The Oliver 55’s came out in 1969 just a few years before the IH 66s. I have sales literature on the CBT tractors. I think they are sold in Florida as well for sugar cane work. It’s neat the Oliver design has carried over.
Nice. Old tractor
👍👍
Had a 7240 did a good job was a real bear to work on
The farmer seemed to indicate the same feeling about the 7240 in this video.
Great in the field, hell in the shop. Kinze: hell in the field, great in the shop.
If you like filming the older stuff you should come to NC with your camera!
Planting by eye only no marker arms unless there is something we are not seeing.
Looks like there is some sort of screen just in front of the steering wheel, perhaps some form of "GPS"
@@patrikpersson5347 I would say that is the planter moniter
@@andywagner8367 Then he must be a god
No GPS. Just eyeballing it each pass. Kind of like running a grain drill.
@@bigtractorpower old school planting.
my uncle had a room in the farm house full of trophies from the tractor pulls this old IH won him in the early 80s.
Classic IH Power. Many folks l ove IH International Harvester. Very Cool 🚜👍
👍👍
No auto steer here!!
I love my 966 don’t know what their year model yet but it works well
👍👍
On a farm i used to work on we had a 826 1066 and a v8 1468
Very nice IH line up.
Love the 966. One if my biggest mistakes I made was I had the chance to purchase a 1973 966 HYDRO. It had 2,130 original hours. Original owner wanted 10,200.00, I passed oh well live and learn I guess
Sounds like a nice tractor.
Great Video. Love the old equipment. No row markers? GPS?
I was wondering the same, seems to be relying only on his eyes
It running more like a grain drill. No markers no GPS just a good line of sight.
The IH 966, majority cause of my hearing loss... no turbo screaming machine!!!
Cabs are a big improvement in keeping the engine sound out.
Jason when do we get to see some more videos of your big tractor??? I can’t wait to see more of that big dog.
Soon. I got it out during corn planting season. 😁👍
The 966 and 1066 also had a hydrostat transmission offered.
Yes they are. Very rare to find today.
Got me a 766 with home made cab
👍👍
don't forget about the hydro transmission model.
I remember nearly every farm here in Ga had an IH tractor around. Most are gone but there are still some around that do run and get some use. 🚜
The 66 series was a big seller. They were built to last.
They also made them with a hydro transmission, the farm I worked on had one, great to feed cows with
👍
We ran 66 series back in the day,we liked them ,btw you missed the 866 in your commentary.
866 was only available in Australia.
You must me in Australia? I have 866 literature from Australia. The 866 was not sold in North America.
bigtractorpower I am in Australia and we ran the 66 series and 86 series tractors that were made in Geelong Victoria, from memory the 766 and 786 had the Neuss 310 ci and the 866 ran the 358 ci and the 966 had the 358 turbo and that carried onto the 886 and 986 ,correct me if I'm wrong.
👍👍👍👍
👍 thank you watching and the thumbs up.
Still have a 1066 Hydro my grandpa ran. When was the Hydro transmission made available?
The Hydro 1066 was introduced in 1971 but soon became the Hydro 100 because the Hydro 1066 put out about 105 hp compared to the 115 hp 106) gear drive. A Hydro 1066 is pretty rare as the Hydro 100 saw 4 years of production.
bigtractorpower Thanks for the info! I still have it, it still starts first time every time. But he knew his way around that engine, so it put out a heluvalot more than 106 when he was done lol. He had it on a 8’ heavy duty roto tiller for working up light bush into farmable land. Tuned up the pto clutch too so we actually broke the pro splines twice from the torque before he turned it back just a little. Still use it on the auger occasionally, a Brant 13” auger, 110 feet long.
Bigtractorpower, have you seen an International Harvester hydro tractor? The ones with the hydrostatic transmission? I have been interested in those because I understand that there aren't many farm tractors with those transmissions.
I have filmed a 76’ Hydro 100. I know a Garber with a 1066 Hydro but have not seen it working.
No GPS on the tractor and no markers on the planter, how in the heck is he able to know where to plant?
Good eyes
@@bigtractorpower now that's a good answer.
wow imagine that you can still farm without gps and auto steer; millennials wouldnt even know where to start; lol;
👍👍
I'm surprised to see no markers, and I didn't see a gps. How does next know exactly where he's at?
Good eye sight 😁.
No row markers? How did he tell where his next line was?
Was wondering the same is he just that good? No doubt old school and experience works but noting is better than technology when it comes to efficiently
When you have been doing it most of your life, it's not hard to gauge your spacing. I don't use row markers on our 30 foot grain drill and still do a decent job, saves time turning on the headland not messing with raising and lowering markers.
Is this one the hydro?
No. The Hydro has a Hydro decal on the hood.
bigtractorpower thought so wasn’t sure if it fell off, the farm I work at runs a 966 hydro.
First
Thank you for your doozy as him you’re building up a good string of first posts.
