How to build an easy backstop for all kinds of target practice. I usually put a target in front of it to take the impact and use the boards as a backup. If you were going to throw axes or something, I'd use some 2x6's instead of fence boards. I screwed in the round for throwing knives with just one 6" screw.

    Hi What did you use to attach your beams to the posts? Did you consider cast in place brackets on the concrete footings instead of the posts? Thanks 😊

    • @markkarnowski5323
      @markkarnowski5323 18 днів тому

      Hi, there were just simpson ties specific to my beam and post size, I had to order them online though, they weren't typical at a big box store. The engineer actually decided the posts be embedded in concrete and to the specific depth. I think a bracket wouldn't be sturdy enough and would need cross bracing. I'd ask an engineer :) I just drew my own plans, then an engineer looked them over for $800 and gave me attachment types and strength needed for my area (it is built for a crazy amount of snow load!).. Cheers

      @@markkarnowski5323 Thanks I have an engineer who approved my plans too. I was just curious about your reasons. Where I'm building, that type of foundation was very popular for decades. It's very strong. I am going to use steel strapping embedded into the concrete as well as the posts. That way I can tie the building to the concrete itself and I think it will add strength. I'm in a high wind zone. I work by myself too. Some days I think I've lost my mind. Lol Thanks!🙂

    Hi there I'm in the planning stages of building my own place too. What brackets did you use on top of your 6x6 to attach your beams to them? Thanks!

    • @markkarnowski5323
      @markkarnowski5323 18 днів тому

      Hi. They were just Simpson ties. They weren't standard at a big box store though and I ordered them online. I think there were two types, I think the green and brown 6x6's are different sizes. But then it has different sizes on top, depending on the beams you are using. I "think" I had 5.5" bottoms to fit the 6x6, then 4.5" top for beam of 3x1.5" boards nailed together.

    Maybe tie a pc of looped paracord through the bolt hole on the post and drop the paracord through the casing from bottom. You can then pull paracord from top of casing and it should guide that post right up through top hole. Great vid though. Subbed you to look at cabim vids as well. Good stuff man. Be well.

      I actually just looked on google for structural engineer near me. Told them I had a 436 sq ft cabin and what would it cost to look over the plans and give me the necessary papers for a building permit. One was $1600, the next was too busy, the next said $800. Easy choice :) Usually they charge on sq footage I think.

    I bought one of these brand new. It sucks!! I hate it!! After 8 months it already gets stuck into soak mode and never comes out of it. Even with soak turned off. I now have to call for warranty service. It better be covered, or I'm just gonna through it out. It is loud, never drains and spins enough. Cloths were always super damp after use, no matter what type of cycle you run. Yes, stuff always gets torn, stuck, or ripped in the agitator. My girlfriend bought it for me, so I can't ever say anything bad bout it sorry I'm venting here bout what a hunk of S#!t it is. I will never get a GE appliance again cause of this cruddy experience.

    I had this EXACT same issue recently. In my case, the clothes would get all balled up, just like in the video, and cause the wildly unbalanced scenario and violently shaking washer. I noticed that the clothes were just slightly damp - and when opening the washer to view the clothes while washing was in-process, THERE WAS NO WATER in the drum. How can this be? During the fill cycle, water was coming out, albeit very slow. I removed the cold-water hose on the washer side and noted the small screen that was in place (presumably to filter sediment) was all gunked up and slightly damaged. I surmised this was the cause of the slow water fill. I removed the screen and tried again. Now the water filled up much stronger/faster, and the drum was actually filled with water during the wash cycle. No issue with clothes getting balled up and causing the unbalanced scenario. Problem solved! 😀

    I just bought this washer after sending back a Whirlpool that was a 2 in 1 (agitator and impeller). It was defective. After a cycle my clothes had dry spots. So far this new GE is a little loud, but ok. My only gripe is that washers use to: fill up with water, wash then rise out the detergent; refill again your clothes would wash with fabric softener and then it was rinse clean. Now it only fills up with water once and that's it. Even if you add fabric softener it does not collect water a 2nd time. In my opinion, that not washing clothes. EVERYTHING now a days just SUCKS!!!!!!!

      You know it's funny, this was one of my first videos, 4 years ago, and it has had a ton of views compared to others. I would hope they would have made some adjustments to the design in that many years. I agree, most things aren't built well nowadays. But I have bought three Maytags since then (because of moving, not they broke) and I've always loved them. Fills a lot with water, clothes look clean.. Guess they would make boring videos though :)

  • @brianswiger9390
    @brianswiger9390 11 місяців тому

    Hi Mark, glad to see new videos! Love what you do! Thanks for making this for us! I built a 10x12 shed over the past year. My cost in MD was about $1k more than your shed but that didn't include a few things I did differently. Because I had never worked with concrete, I chose to pour a 15x15 slab- 3 slabs actually at 5x15. Learned a ton, but also drove my costs by about $1500 (I include tool purchases in that). I also wanted to learn about solar and those parts were another $1k for power to my shed (200 watt). I live in a terrible HOA and 10x12 was the largest allowed, so to get around that limitation and to have a place to store my ATV, I added an awning/ lean to which added about 5x10 rain coverage. I also over designed it just to acquire more skill sets like adding gutters. I used left over trex for my ramps. I just wanted to write to say thanks for continuing to inspire us. My main goal for the shed build was to practice and learn for when I hopefully build my next house just like you did. I will see if I have youtube videos of my shed and post the link. Thanks again- you rock!

    • @markkarnowski5323
      @markkarnowski5323 11 місяців тому

      Hi! Thanks a lot! I appreciate it! Yeah, I try to avoid concrete, mainly the extra costs and lifting those dang heavy bags :) So in the shed video, my neighbor's manufactured home was just put on a slab a couple months before. He paid 40k just for the concrete pad! Which is way more than my whole cabin at 34k, crazy. Actually, I found building a house just about the same as building a shed, just bigger is all, so excellent practice for you. Best wishes
