To strip all nuance off concept, and write it off that as ‘lawbreakers have free reign’ is not constructive. @@HotChook Yes I did watch the complete video. As far as being on the wrong side of the road a bike is not going to kill someone in a car at those speeds. On the footpath was no dangerous encounters. I never said children were vigilantes. I was using the current youth crime in Qld as an example. There has been a lot of vigilantism through out the state in response of the youth offenders not being punished because of the laws. As I mentioned in the original post, If crimes go unpunished it will lead to increased vigilantism. So what do you suggest that no chase should take place and just let them go? How would this solve anything? It would only lead to more crime as the lawbreakers no they can get away with it because the police can't give chase.

No flashing lights or sirens were fitted to many of the trail bikes back then but after a enquiry now all bikes have lights & sirens & so do the 4 wheel atvs.

The sad thing i saw is he didn't get any assistance. Like he was calling everything over the radio, but seemed like nobody came to his aid. Which makes sense on why he rode the hell outta his bike to stay with them.
Hard to follow, went down a one way, crossed where they have metal fences along that part of the highway, they were probably coming to his aid just that cars and bikes travel differently.
So the message from this video is: you can drive/ride like a hoon and do whatever you want, because it is very unlikely you will be spotted by the police, especially since they have taken the "Lone Ranger" off active duty.

What a bull crap outcome, I agree with the other commenters, The laws have become a joke, the bad guy often has way more rights than the good guys, And in a persuit, the officer should be able to make their own call on the safety aspect, the officer in this case was more than capable of handling that bike and he still showed due care where it was needed, the QPS should have stood by him. I hope this has not left too sour of a taste for him and I hope he is back on duty, we need officers like this who are willing to go the extra mile to catch these crooks.

In Victoria for a while the Police had a 160kmh speed cap that if the offender went over the pursuit had to be terminated no matter what. You will never guess what happened... (and then after that they changed it and they don't say what the limit is now but if you drive on the wrong side of the road they will still terminate the pursuit)
Most of the time, all they have to do is just start driving on the opposite side of the road - police will have to terminate as they will cop the blame if the pursuit leads to a collision, even though the bell-end evading arrest is the one doing the dangerous driving.
i respectfully disagree with most comments: the officer is pursuing w/out siren/lights.. putting many ppls lives in danger.. and for what crime? someone threatened an off-duty cop? i gave evidence of my neighbour threatening to slit my throat at my local GC cop station.. they wouldn't pursue it.. said I could have instigated it.. cop basically told me to suck it up.. that these things happen.. and if I pursue it then it may just make the neighbour more agro.. yet one of their own, and they act like they are in lethal weapon 2.. ridiculous.

This is why he was charged. Could not activate lights and sirens as cops would in a regular pursuit as they weren’t fitted to QPS trail bikes. Because of that it was argued he should not have initiated a pursuit

He was calm and calculated at all times, his radio calls were professional and clear and he was aware of the traffic around him at all times. Congratulated with a punch in the nuts from his bosses. The officer on the bike was in contact with the base, for quite some time. I know little about procedure, but I am wondering why a more senior officer wasn't engaged to oversee the pursuit and call it off if that was the case. And obviously not enough police on the roads, as I didn't see even a hint of another police vehicle throughout the entire chase. A bit different from the videos of police chases in the U.S.

That has to be the scariest police chase I’ve seen. That poor cop - he has mad skills but i was holding my breath when the bus squeezed past him. It stuns me how few people use evasive driving techniques & even when they see a vehicle coming straight at them, they don’t slow down, don’t move over to create room (even when they can) & just seem to assume the other vehicle will magically miss them. I know many people must freeze & not be able to think quickly enough to check there’s no one beside them or up their a$$ so they can evade, but everyone should be constantly aware of where traffic is around them.

One of the safest and well calculated pursuits I have seen in a long long time. The Sergeant gave the suspects room so not to be right up their behind pushing them to go faster and take more risks than they are lady were. Yes he should have had emergency lights and siren but again this would have made the suspects run harder and the civilian vehicles often create more danger and do silly things when they hear sirens. You saw in this video how little civilian vehicles played a part…. Now go and watch pursuits or other emergency driving where police/fire/ambulance’ are trying to get through traffic and see how much of a crap show it is.
He should have got up alongside them early on once they started riding dangerously and snatched on their brake and dropped them on the ground. Job done, without endangering more people! And of course the gronks on the moped are heading to Cooli/Tweed 🙄

I was a NSW Police trail bike squad officer for 12 years. Have had dozens of pursuits with other motorcycles on and off road. That was nothing more than a cruise. Minimal danger. These offenders allegedly threatened a Police officer and his family which I would rate as a serious offence. Compared to how we operated 20 years ago I would say that officer was extremely restrained. I have taken out numerous offenders on motorcycles and owing to the gravity of the offence taken them out on this occasion. Unfortunately most police management got to there positions because they are YES men and most have spent there career behind a desk and have a much different view on risk compared to police risking there life every day. Some comments in this section are obviously from people who are risk adverse. Cowards in other words.

Media says he was off duty and this was the police officers own motorbike. I think the ones he was chasing said "you are dead you dog" or something similar. I do find it a bit reckless that he is chasing them, through caravan parks etc.. No sirens to warn people etc etc.

coulda actually been a scooter - which is legally a motorbike (I know). Basically anything over 50cc, looks about the same size as my wife's 110cc, but that thing had way more than 110 in it or those idiots were lightweight.

Hard to follow, went down a one way, crossed where they have metal fences along that part of the highway, they were probably coming to his aid just that cars and bikes travel differently.
So the message from this video is: you can drive/ride like a hoon and do whatever you want, because it is very unlikely you will be spotted by the police, especially since they have taken the "Lone Ranger" off active duty.

What a bull crap outcome, I agree with the other commenters, The laws have become a joke, the bad guy often has way more rights than the good guys, And in a persuit, the officer should be able to make their own call on the safety aspect, the officer in this case was more than capable of handling that bike and he still showed due care where it was needed, the QPS should have stood by him. I hope this has not left too sour of a taste for him and I hope he is back on duty, we need officers like this who are willing to go the extra mile to catch these crooks.

In Victoria for a while the Police had a 160kmh speed cap that if the offender went over the pursuit had to be terminated no matter what. You will never guess what happened... (and then after that they changed it and they don't say what the limit is now but if you drive on the wrong side of the road they will still terminate the pursuit)
Makes you want to resort to what ever means when it comes to your door.
Most of the time, all they have to do is just start driving on the opposite side of the road - police will have to terminate as they will cop the blame if the pursuit leads to a collision, even though the bell-end evading arrest is the one doing the dangerous driving.

The officer on the bike was in contact with the base, for quite some time. I know little about procedure, but I am wondering why a more senior officer wasn't engaged to oversee the pursuit and call it off if that was the case. And obviously not enough police on the roads, as I didn't see even a hint of another police vehicle throughout the entire chase. A bit different from the videos of police chases in the U.S.

That has to be the scariest police chase I’ve seen. That poor cop - he has mad skills but i was holding my breath when the bus squeezed past him. It stuns me how few people use evasive driving techniques & even when they see a vehicle coming straight at them, they don’t slow down, don’t move over to create room (even when they can) & just seem to assume the other vehicle will magically miss them. I know many people must freeze & not be able to think quickly enough to check there’s no one beside them or up their a$$ so they can evade, but everyone should be constantly aware of where traffic is around them.

One of the safest and well calculated pursuits I have seen in a long long time.
The Sergeant gave the suspects room so not to be right up their behind pushing them to go faster and take more risks than they are lady were.
Yes he should have had emergency lights and siren but again this would have made the suspects run harder and the civilian vehicles often create more danger and do silly things when they hear sirens. You saw in this video how little civilian vehicles played a part…. Now go and watch pursuits or other emergency driving where police/fire/ambulance’ are trying to get through traffic and see how much of a crap show it is.
He should have got up alongside them early on once they started riding dangerously and snatched on their brake and dropped them on the ground. Job done, without endangering more people! And of course the gronks on the moped are heading to Cooli/Tweed 🙄

I was a NSW Police trail bike squad officer for 12 years. Have had dozens of pursuits with other motorcycles on and off road. That was nothing more than a cruise. Minimal danger. These offenders allegedly threatened a Police officer and his family which I would rate as a serious offence. Compared to how we operated 20 years ago I would say that officer was extremely restrained. I have taken out numerous offenders on motorcycles and owing to the gravity of the offence taken them out on this occasion. Unfortunately most police management got to there positions because they are YES men and most have spent there career behind a desk and have a much different view on risk compared to police risking there life every day. Some comments in this section are obviously from people who are risk adverse. Cowards in other words.

coulda actually been a scooter - which is legally a motorbike (I know). Basically anything over 50cc, looks about the same size as my wife's 110cc, but that thing had way more than 110 in it or those idiots were lightweight.

When I read Alexandre Solzhenitsyn's "The Gulag Archipelago" it wasn't the brutality of the gulags themselves that shocked me at all, it was what happened before the first waves.
It was when the thugs were robbing and attacking the normal citizens en masse; the police would do nothing until a citizen decided to fight back.
It didn't matter if you fought back or not, you would still likely be murdered and your wife would be violated in front of you. But if you fought back and managed to win, then the police would arrive and send you to the gulags for attacking 'socially friendly elements'.
The thugs themselves were protected from any punishment and most ended up running the government (sorry Gulags, I was getting confused with Australia for a second).
