Even in small town America, you’ll probably pay at least $4 and up, for a bagel sandwich. I guarantee they’ll make $3 profit (it’s just bread) on a simple bagel sandwich to $8 or more for a higher priced ingredient bagel sandwich. You can make any kind of sandwich you want with bagels. They are delicious when they are freshly baked and warm. McDonald’s charges about $8 for a steak, egg, cheese and sautéed onion bagel. I love them. Now calculate the possible profit on one bagel times the thousand they bake fresh every day. Think 60-75% markup. The only things with higher markup than a sandwich is pizza (still a bread product,) and jewelry. Sandwich shops that bake their own bread and use fresh ingredients, make plenty of money. In NYC people love a fresh bagel for breakfast and a coffee.
The only things I eat at McD's are the steak, egg and cheese bagel and the Filet-o-fish sandwich. Admittedly, the fish sandwich has gone downhill in the last decade or so but still better than the hamburgers. There was a restaurant in Westerville, Ohio called The Great American Bagel. They had wonderful bagels. I worked as an X-Ray tech at the hospital a few blocks away. I timed my drive so I could stop for a blueberry bagel and cream cheese on my way to work daily.
Egg sandwiches, with optional cheese and bacon, is the classic NY sandwich, but usually on a kaiser roll with poppy seeds. The classic bagel has a generous schmear of cream cheese, with a bunch of different add-ins. Smoked salmon is classic. The true secret to the NY bagel is NY reservoir water. It also makes our pizza dough the best. There are bagel shops and pizzerias in Los Angeles (and elsewhere) that imports the water from NY to make the dough.

But when you load one up with all the fillings, they cost $5.00 or $6.00 each, or more, I have seen bagels that cost $10.00.
Blueberries are best right off the bush. I hardly ever eat them any other way. I’m not a very good helper when it’s time to pick blueberries as I’m eating them almost the whole time. 😂
Bacon, egg, & cheese bagels are a good way to enjoy your breakfast on the go; instead of having to make time to make it yourself & sit down to eat it (with either toast, waffles, or pancakes in place of the bagel), if you're in a rush having it between a bagel gives you the freedom to eat it in your car on your way to wherever you're going. Yeah, you can't go wrong with bagels & lox. And yeah, "delox" would've been a great name for it.
I've had bagels in Montreal, the tour guide told us they are famous and possibly the best in the world. They were ok, New York and New Jersey have better.
