@@marisakennedy777 yea i mean the truth is that islam has a very long and sordid documented history of enslavement and subjugation. the West also has a history of slavery but the bible does not except in two cases: 1) "slavery" meant, in the modern vernacular, indentured servitude, which is commonly accepted and practiced today. 2) slavery meant, unpaid labor, but only for Prisoners of War which are the ancient history equivalent of prison and prison work, which are also commonly accepted today, and there were laws against the mistreatment/abuse of POWs. So my point is that where the West practiced slavery, they departed from Christianity. In the American South, the black slaves were given "bibles" but there is no better proof of the fact that Christianity does NOT condone slavery except in the cases of 1) and 2) above than the fact that these "bibles" had all the critical passages removed that are opposed to slavery, abuse, etc. In other words, the slave owners knew damn well that the bible did not support what they were doing.

Another unique thing about Morocco and U.S. relations is that in the U.S. there is over 2,600 National Historic Landmarks that are said to have high historical significance for the United States. This includes anything from historic buildings, sites, structures, objects and districts. Only one can be found in a foreign country and it is the American Legation in Tangiers, Morocco.

Met a guy from Morocco a month or two ago at work & when I went to tell him ab how they were the first to recognize America & … he cut me off & finished it for me “longest treaty in American history” & knew exactly what it was called, the Moroccan American treaty of peace & friendship. As did I but it was such an epic moment, that would have never happened, had the fat electrician not educated me. He was very proud of his country for having the longest treaty w America & I have a TON of respect for Morocco as a result of knowing the history. That whole conversation just came from me asking him “hey man, where is your accent from?” & then I got excited when he said Morocco & that’s how the convo started, we both had big ass smiles on our faces by the end, memorable convo
If someone tried to conquer Morocco I’d likely enlist & I think America would be indebted to defend them & repel whatever enemy threatened our longest official ally

Taken from a website “Between 1500 and 1800 there were almost certainly 1 million and quite possibly as many as 1.25 million white, European and American Christians enslaved by the Barbary Coast.
There were a series of raids as well by the Barbary pirates that depopulated coastal towns from Sicily to Cornwall, according to research. There are some great videos about it. The pirates would attack small undefended coastal towns and take all the Europeans they could as slaves.

Don't feel too bad about Algerian piracy. Its not a good thing, but European nations, including the English, Spanish, Flemish & Dutch, commissioned privateers to attack each other's merchant vessels up until the 1850s, so there's plenty of blame for state sanctioned piracy to go around.

The Damage done by the Americans to Algeria is more severe than you think. Algeria made many ships at this time but they were older and smaller. Also they had captured Merchant vessels and used them as well. The Americans unlike the Europeans would burn the ships down so they could not be salvaged, the Europeans would immobilize the ships and leave. These two conflicts with America reduced Algerias many ships to a few ships. And the money the American demanded as repayment meant Algeria would not build more ships to scare the French away. Also the wars showed the French that the leader of Algeria was not a man of faith but a man of Guns and Gold. So if the French moved in it would not be a battle of Faiths that the French could lose but a battle of Guns which the French did win.

Saying other ppl (especially brown ppl) held slaves for hundreds of years doesn't fit the "white ppl are uniquely racist because of slavery in the Americas" narrative. So color me unsurprised you were never taught abt it. The word "slave" itself is from Slavs of eastern Europe who were also enslaved by the Ottomans.

It’s amazing how no matter where you go if you just observe it’s the same people.. everyone’s a son or daughter to someone.. if someone from Serbia is a dick to someone while vacationing in Malta.. Do not be disheartened, as I’ve heard my Muslim brothers of the book say, ‘peace upon those who are rightly guided’ which is similar to my book that says, ‘the paths of peace they have not known.’
Peace will one day reign supreme so long as the faithful follow the path and are not swayed by blind leaders.

TREATY OF TRIPOLI [Separation of religion from government]
Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli was a statement of religious neutrality and tolerance between the United States and the Muslim country of Tripoli. It was signed in 1797 by President John Adams and the Pasha of Tripoli, and ratified by the U.S. Senate. It declared that “the government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion”, and that no religious opinions shall ever disrupt the harmony between the two nations.

It's kindof funny, when they shot the rod to the cannon out of it with the first shot. The people inside would've heard the cannon firing off upon them and like the man in the video said they would've expected a prolonged bombardment.
Certainly, they will fire the cannon at the wall for hours until it begins to fail. Then the men will come running in. They thought they had time to prepare themselves while the wall held.
They didn't know that the cannon was disabled with the first shot so I'm sure they were supprised when the men suddenly came rushing in.
Imagine peeking over the wall to maybe see where the cannon is set up and finding that a man has rushed in, climbed the wall and he has come up to your face and he's attacking. It would be surprising.

So unlike in modern america back then a president didnt choose someone to be their running mate to campaign alongside them and be their vice president like they do now. Instead what would happen is the person who came in second place in the election would be vice-president while the president was the person who won. This meant that for many of america's early presidents/vice-presidents they were actually political rivals and didnt get along to well.

I would greatly enjoy your reaction to a movie relating to this topic, The Wind and the Lion. Directed by John Hughes and staring Sean Connery, Candice Bergen and Brian Keith. It is adapted from an actual event. It was one of my father's and my favorite movies to watch together or quote lines to each other.

It wasn't necessarily a desire to beat the "bad guys" that led the U.S. to fight the Barbary Pirates. The U.S. was too poor in the 1790s to pay any more tribute than they already were, whereas the wealthy British, French, and Spanish considered these tributes to be a cost of doing business. During the presidencies of George Washington and John Adams, $1 million per year was paid in tribute just to Algiers. This was 20% of the government budget. Congress had to agree to this, so John Adams should not deserve all the blame. Actually, I'm not sure if he even agreed with this policy, because he was perhaps the politician most in favor of spending money to build a navy.
Some sources say the story of the USS O'Bannon using potatoes (and actual weapons) to sink a Japanese submarine is a myth, and some say it did happen. "The Fat Electrician" has a 3-minute video about this.

There is no singular verse as far as I'm aware of. But it's a matter of "what would the prophet do". When he was fighting in Arabia he engaged in caravan raids and banditry to build income and deny it to his enemies. Slaves were taken, booty distributed etc. Add that to the prohibition against attacking fellow muslims and you get the fringes of muslim world finding religious justification for raiding their non muslim neighbors. Started pretty much instantly once it spread into the Mediterranean and SE Asia.

Lol, you missed one of the best parts FFing through the ad.
I KNEW you two would like to HAVE this information.
They were "official" Algerian Pirates... hence if they get overtaken when attacking - Algeria COULD then barter/negotiate to get them & their ship released.
Obviously, replicas of the same sword ;)
YOU guys, and really the vast majority of your people, in NO WAY "deserve it" - you should not have to pay for the sins of your ancestors. Your ancestors DID kinda deserve it. And I wanted to inquire if you were familiar w/ the passage in the Quran about making people who were not believers into slaves, apparently no. I wonder if they, like many "Christians" have distorted this verse (which, by my reading the 'grievous punishment" will be God's punishment. But I am by no means a scholar of the Quaran.)
“This Book is not to be doubted…. As for the unbelievers, it is the same whether or not you forewarn them; they will not have faith. God has set a seal upon their hearts and ears; their sight is dimmed and grievous punishment awaits them.” Quran 2:1/2:6-2:10
Also I do not know if this is a reasonable translation of that passage, nor if that's even close to what it really states. But was all I found after a bit of looking into it a few months back that was even MAYBE 'close'.
What he omitted, is Sweden helped us w/ some of the Barbary wars at the ... I THINK the beginning portion of them.

I love The Fat Electrician and think his channels cool, but one recurring issue I see when I watch his videos is that he tells the stories with such a gloss over the bad things America did and will only trust the official American account of events. He is very much diehard American Exceptionalist, thinking America can never and has never done wrong, and if it has done wrong he'll probably say it was overall justified. He doesn't do that so much in this video, but in his coverage of more recent conflicts you can clearly see his bias showing through. I think a lot of this attitude from him, looking at American history with such childish rose colored glasses, has a lot to do with the fact that a lot of his target audience is not just history buffs but also the veteran subculture, which is a subculture in America that feels that if you criticize any of the unjust or immoral wars the US has pressed on other nations, that you're somehow not patriotic and calling into question the service of the individual soldiers who fought in those wars. There's no problem in loving ones country, and trying to defend its honor when its right is honorable, but some of these people do it to the point that they throw away all right reason, common sense, and common facts of history out the window. It's a very toxic and ahistorical worldview that I'd be careful with when watching his videos further. Other than that, his videos are overall great and are pretty entertaining.
