I am joined by Tony from @BehindTheGlass as I get behind the wheel of the new #Maserati #Grecale Trofeo for the first time.
This was during the Maserati UK Press Tour which meant we only had about 30 minutes with the car, but it was enough to form some fairly strong opinions about the new Macan/X3 rival.

Wow! The fact that they mentioned the Maserati Grecale interior is better than the Porsche Macan is a cause for celebration for the marque! a big step forward! and now a serious rival that will undoubtedly be their best seller and reach new levels of sales!
This and the MC20 are two seriously enticing cars to me. I know theyre not quite as good as their rivals, but theres something about a two-car garage of just Maseratis that makes me WANT them both
For me, the Grecale is one of if not the best SUV in this segment. ...But being the best is always ephemeral and different from person to person.

It was Such a pleasure watching Sam and Tony review this Maserati. The onscreen chemistry is unmatched. Kudos lads, I enjoyed watching this.
Reference the Macan you mentioned, I have that model with all the buttons, and it's way better than the new one with a piece of glass with digital buttons. When that piece of glass/plastic fails, it will all fail, much more expensive to repair. Also it's easier to use the buttons on mine as you can remember where they are by feel, and don't need to take your eyes off the road.
Something that lots of people seem to forget is that buttons do not get dated like infotainment graphics do. As soon as a manufacturer updates the graphics older models immediately feel old and outdated. Buttons never get outdated.
I actually said the thing about the Ford Puma lights 30 seconds before Sam!
Personally I think the Alfa Stelvio looks much better than the gracale

Great review. I actually just ordered one of these new for my wife's daily after a test drive. A bit pricey, but the Macan Turbo and other cars just didn't have this kind of polish and performance. I loved the way the Stelvio QV drove more, but the interior was so austere at $100K... and the large wheel gap look is awful. But you are right, all the cars in this class are all a bit too "polished" today unless in corsa driving hard. And the reason it feels like a Stelvio is it is built on the same Stelantis platform that is stretched a bit.

More of this please!! I used to really want a quattroporte with the Ferrari engine and mafia styling. That car had emotion and character in bucket loads, sadly that seems to be missing in the modern Maserati’s.

Beautiful car! expensive but you buy for the exclusivity! these guys are mentioning the Macan being much cheaper but the Porsche isn't exclusive or special enough! The Levante Trofeo should also be considered the old-school enthusiast's choice with magical, orchestral V8 sounds!
Good video. Maserati really need some help with their PR and brand placement. Their social media and Beckham obsession is a big turn off. If they are going to lure Land Rover and Porsche drivers they have to up their game. I’ve gone from 15 years of driving Range Rovers to a Levante and really rate it, dealing with my local Ferrari dealer for serving etc is another level to the shit show of tying to book my Range Rover in at the dealer. Plus my Maserati has done 15k miles in a year and not missed a beat. Used ones are good value and an so far an enjoyable ownership experience , just try not to think of the residuals.
Just keep it long enough for the residuals to be neglible... And hope it won't break before hand

I've been looking forward to a good review of this car, I quite fancy one. However at the risk of sounding like a stuck record, I struggle with touch screen everything. It's less to do with being a dinosaur and missing buttons, but more to do with the fact I'm a middle aged man and need reading glasses to actually see what's on the screen. So need to pull over to operate anything when driving alone. A few buttons for some basic functions would actually be much safer.

I consider it more than inconvenient, I don’t think it’s safe.
I can turn my heater and audio volume up-and-down without even looking, because of muscle memory and knowing exactly where the controls are, not needing to look at a screen.
@@AlbertManiscalco I doesn't. I had a Porsche Taycan for a while and simply didn't find it safe. Even moving the airflow on the vents was a series of menus. It's no different to using a mobile phone whilst driving, yet seems to have been deemed acceptable.
I understand you. I also prefer physical buttons (I believe most people prefer them - but it's cheap to manufacture all included in the digital domain). That said, you can take another approach and start asking the car for the stuff you want. Learning voice commands is not that hard.
I feel like a bit of clarity is needed.
The Grecale is based on the same Giorgio platform that the Stelvio and the Giulia were based on.
Moreover only the MC20 gets the fancy precombustion chamber, the Grecale and the new GrandTurismo don't.
So the engine was originally Ferrari, then was reowrked into a V6 for Alfa Romeo, then was reworked to include the precombustion chamber and was reworked once more to remove the precombustion chamber

they all get the precombustion chamber only they are detuned from the MC20, with 550 for the trofeo gt and 530 for the grecale

Stolen the headlights off the latest ford puma!. In that colour remove the Maserati badge it looks like a Ford… people who aren’t paying attention will think it’s a Ford lol.
I'd really like to see more content with your GT3. It doesn't have to be super special content with it, your daily use of it would still be interesting with your video making skills

Maserati are in that grey area of the car world, they are a poor man’s Ferrari but brand wise they are above the Germans etc. so I think it comes down to where the brand is on the market

Basically a badge-engineered Stelvio for a lot more money. Maserati under Alfa is going to end up with the same fate as Lancia, IMO. Maserati needs to be split away like Ferrari, with its own development budget.
Germans just do driving feel better, and mclarens lol. Italian cars are just emotions with sound. Why I love Lamborghini so much
What the hell I absolutely fuckin love this car!!!! It’s so sick!!! To think it has 530bhp stock and since it’s an up tuned quadrifoglio engine it sounds absolutely mega; literally gives German v8s a run for their money in terms of sound. Looks wise it’s a lot better than the levante which isn’t bad looking at all. What a car!

Get a Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Much more of a car for the money than any of the ones mentioned here. And sounds and drives fabulous!
It's a bit harsh to say don't buy it, because these cars cost a lot of money to develop and build and you putting people off buying it is unfair. It's great to give an honest opinion, however, leave that decision to the buyer! It will be unfair for me to tell your audience not to watch your content, they can decide that based on their knowledge and research. You spend your time and money to make something and someone simply says don't buy it or don't watch it!
I agree, they should instead mention shortlisting the Maserati Levante Trofeo as an alternative which pleases the old-school enthusiast more. They should also be fair-minded mentioning instead to go for cheaper Grecale models which justify the prices compared to rivals! They should be reminded that Maserati is a more exclusive marque than Porsche hence the justification for higher prices!
Good job you're not tied up relying on press drives to make films hahaa. And Tony you like everything to be new and the latest thing so have to get used to things feeling abit numb and less character haha.

So many cars coming to market now priced over +£100K. Who are these cars aimed at?? I have a 2020 RR Sport and can't justify the increase in price to buy into a new one.....I don't think you are getting enough car for the extra ££ compared to the one I have. The car industry seems to be a bit tone deaf with what is going on in the world. Awesome content as usual!!
Price wise . Isn't like Next clothing vs Gucci ... yes porsche is a good brand ,at a good price and does the same as gucci .... but you pay up for badge ! The trident costs 20k

The Grecale is a good looking car. I bet Tony will be able to get a good deal on these once they are out. Also I was reading that It’s the same platform as the Stelvio and the 5th gen Grand Cherokee.
It is indeed built over the same Giorgio platform which promises great dynamic behavior, but the Grecale is quite bigger and a bit heavier.... But then again, it also offers more space and luxury. I would say, class leading in these aspects.
This car costs almost the same as the x3m similarly specced, but it has more premium materials and far better design and ride quality not to mention steering feel. Macan is not even in the same league. Gracale drives so much better than the others It could cost even more and be a better buying option. You know the car is good when reviewers complain about the things they can't pinpoint.
You should definitely try out the Ghibli Trofeo at some point, it's still got a Ferrari engine except Maserati changed it from a flat plane crank to a cross plane crank so it doesn't rev as high, still sounds amazing though

Price: what are you saying ??? I spec'd some "normal" X3 and Velar and it came easily 100k... the X3M STARTS from 114k€... the Macan GTS STRARTS from 102k€...

Horrendously disappointing car. And you reviewers only review too many european cars. I’m currently sat in a top of the range Kia Sportage GT-Line. Literally has a nicer, more luxurious interior than that Maseratis 😂

To be fair IF you REALLY do the MATH 110K in COMPARISON to ITS competitors is NOT that BAD: The Macan GTS has 87 less HORSEPOWER and the INTERIOR trim IN the GRECALE is BETTER; a FULLY spec X3 M is IN the LOW 90K range, BUT that has 50 LESS horsepower AND the INTERIOR trim is BETTER than the Macan BUT still NOT better THAN the Grecale; a FULLY spec X4 M has 20 LESS horsepower. Where the X4 M would WIN is IT has a V8 and a MORE engaging driving EXPERIENCE. The Grecale though STILL is a GOOD sounding CAR and is VERY capable!!!

Grecale is Gorgeousss inside n outside n all angles . Destroys Bmw Porsche Jaguar Range Rover n Audi . I watch 20 reviews on the Grecale & everybody loves it except you, your the only bad review.
Could thus be your next car Sam for wife to replace her bmw in say 3 years . Or will move into a hybrid or Ev do to living in London.
When Tony took over the driving and pushed the loud pedal Sam became Stan Laurel for a while. (A bit, “another fine mess you got me into Tony”). BTW, the sound of the indicators is terrible. I wouldn’t buy it but it seems to be a good package. Oops, I typed that just before he mentioned the price. Needs a 20% discount at the very least.

This car is loads better than BMW and Porsche. The same Ole cars over and over again .I think k that people are just brainwashed to continue BMWs and Benz. These brands will never gain traction unless people decide to start thinking outside the box. Me personally... I had had enough of BMWs and I certainly don't want a Volkswagen/Porsche 😊

The people who were bribed or just stupid enough to make electronic handbrakes, steer and brake by wire and electrically operated doors legal, should be beaten to within an inch of their lives. ..and then sanity should be restored. That aside: I agree. FAR too expensive for what it is, and not for me either. ..but soon the competition will follow suit, and the new price for this segment will be around 110K, and stupid people will smile and pay. That's how it's going overall.
Bit weird how they finally make a great car (although not a great Maserati), so a great product for good numbers in sales... And then ruin it by making it Too expensive. They tried the same with Alfa Romeo... Didn't work there either. So sad.

I have a 2022 Stelvio Quad now but once this bad boy hits ~45k miles, the Grecale Trofeo is next.
I get the point of modern cars being too “polished” and not exciting, but to say that the Macan is better than this…..it’s not even close, first and foremost techinically.

Electronic doors should be illegal. Imagine having a small to medium sized crash that resulted in a small fire and the battery being disconnected. You better hope someone is coming to help you smash that window cuz you about to burn to death.
The upside is a guy who hates Maserati actually thinks it's a really good car. Maybe with some financial flexibility they can actually sell this in numbers...

How bizar, the engine cover plate is even exactly the same as the Alfa 2.9V6 😂 so are the shift pedals.

Car sucks because the car doesn’t have smart key feature. I accidentally lock my keys in car. In order to unlock doors you have to either call a locksmith or call masearti to remotely on computer to unlock car similar to tesla.
The move, don't buy now, wait 18 months, pick one up from Tony for 59k.
