This GT Space is so incredibly competitive in 2024: Maserati Granturismo, AMG GT, Roma, Continental, DB12... so many great cars
Lexus LC 500 is in there too, I'd say
M8 comp. too. I think Maserati lost its ferrariness when they lost their noise. If not, this car would have been higher in considerations for me
The one that’s beats all of those GT cars is the Mclaren GT! That car is not only faster, but more beautiful with doors that go up! Sure there is a lot of “competition” in this segment, but the clear winner is Mclaren.
@@Iracingnoob Might be a great car but it's looks just doesn't do it for me. It feels kinda incomplete or bland design wise when placed amongst the other McLarens. There's a reason why you don't see as many of them on the road compared to it's brethren.
@@Iracingnoob How about we just appreciate all the cars and what they are individually good at? Different cars for different people and different preferences. To just state a "clear winner" is such a juvenile thing to do...
The sound kills it for me. The whole soul of the car previously was the v8 and glorious sound that it made. Kind of regret selling my 4.2 some 6 months ago purely as I miss the noise. The Trofeo does look fab though. Commericially available synthetic fuel can't come quickly enough and then hopefully manufacturers can still carry on making such fabulous ICE cars and get off the EV bandwagon.
For a long time Maserati did nothing for me but it feels like MC20 was a turning point for them. It may lack the V8 noise but it does seem the GT has jumped in qualify and finish
Everyone who has been in the both the new Grecale and GT models says the interiors are now class leading in terms of quality, space (Grecale rear room bigger than the Levante, GT actually fits adults in the back seats), fit and finish. Can't wait to see what they ultimately do with the new Quattroporte as it should be their next level attempt at an all-out luxury environment.
For me the final v8 Gran Turismo is the one for me, and the aftermarket has come to the rescue for the infotainment system so you can have the new centre screen and hvac, but in the old car.
The 2018 / 2019 models were the pinnacle with a factory backup camera and infotainment update

@@Headlock912 did you watch the video? He said he hired it himself from a rental company. He got the road tip from a radio show, but diverted off that to find what he showed us. As he hired outside of any arrangement with Maserati he said he felt at liberty to say whatever he liked. He explained the car was designed to be produced both in combustion and electric versions, the electric version was being pushed in Europe, so he came to the US on his own initiative to drive the combustion version.
These are already 40K off across the board in the US for unsold ones before negotiations
they priced it too high.. as was the mc20
@@aeromotive2 Agreed though the old Granturismo were similarly discounted like all Maserati once leftover on the lot heavily. This 40K incentive honestly is way too little. 2018's when 2019's came out when msrps hovered around 16X-17XK USD were 30K off plus.
Sounds just like the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV and same setup as well, V6 with ZF gear box! I wonder if this was meant to be the Giulia Coupe originally

The MC20 wa supposed to be the Alfa 6C. The engine is a derivative of the Giulia V6. 95% the same.

Maserati has to be the most underrated sports car Marque of all time ? I have a Maserati dealership on Ascot high street thats just opened and the price of the cars is very reasonable compared to Porsche or Ferrari , Lets hope people wake up and start buying them again they are great cars.

If the MC20 sounded like the 296 they would have sold far more of them I reckon. Beautiful car with a bland noise. 296 sounds ace though. A shame really. The V8 really was one of the best sounding engines in a car!

I live in Connecticut and I drive to BMW m2 because of how great the roads are here. I loved seeing sam in CT and the New York area, great video. Greenwich ct has the biggest car collections in the world, you should definitely do another video in Connecticut

Think I prefer the original with the V8 and old-school interior, but I'm happy that Maserati has this on sale. The world is a better place for a petrol-powered Maser!

I got tense when you ran the light at 16:20 when there was a cop standing right there watching! The video made me nostalgic for my years living in Connecticut but not for the commute to NYC.
What's the cop going to do? Run after him? Bit obvious you are not in a big city. You kind of have to run yellows or right when it turns red to go anywhere, it's expected. Cops don't care.

Hope you enjoyed those back roads I used to drive as a kid, saw your hesitation bearing left at the triangle. ;) Truth is, you could enjoy them with just about any type of car with the right attitude. Route 22 is great, but the traffic will quickly change your experience. The Merritt Pkwy / Hutchinson River Pkwy are a blast at speed, and the Henry Hudson Pkwy along the Hudson River is a terrific, scenic drive.

quite some Alfa Romeo Giulia influence in this. Similar platform, similar engine, same steering wheel and shifter paddles. Very good platform though so you can only expect this to be a good car.
It’s a lovely car, and I really appreciated the old version, but the pricing doesn’t seem right when compared to the new Aston Martin Vantage or 911.
I love the cinematography of your videos, you really put so much care and attention into them and it takes us on the journey. I love Tim, but quite often he just puts a camera in the cockpit and talks to the camera for 20 minutes unscripted and we don't see anything. These videos should be about the journey and the grand tour, and part of the journey is showing us the landscape and culture and scenary which you do brilliantly.

The most gorgeous car at this moment. Simple clean lines. The problem will be the price at Ferrari Roma level (in The Netherlands). Thats to much for a car that will depreciate way more than the Ferrari. Curious what the brand new Aston Martin will bring.
Driving from JFK is absolutely ghastly. I live in 120 miles north of Manhattan in Upstate New York and wish Mr Seinfeld had sent you here where the roads into the Catskill Mountains are much more fun ! Lovely car, fabulous GT car for an old Gent such as myself ! Nice video Sir !

Love these videos. V8 is what all think of bc close or the same as a affordable ferrari but turbo 6 with different muffler might sound better.
I would consider their 4 door model also bc on the use market they are a steal .

I hear you with the hunt for good coffee. I also travel a lot with work and was recently in Orlando and Miami…..generally the coffee is shocking (why o why do yanks like coffee creamer!!!). Nevertheless, good coffee can be found using the tips you mentioned or similar 😂

I find it a beautiful car from ever angle, at least on photo and video. I haven’t seen one in person.
I don’t however understand people, I’m not singling out Sam, who dog on out dated interiors on newer cars yet drive several classics? I don’t know. I am biased to less is more and still prefer analog gauges, at least on the instrument cluster behind the wheel, especially if the are finished well. Aka new Pagani.

Even without the V8, the new GranTurismo is extremely appealing. What makes it even better is apparently if you want to buy one Maserati dealers are offering 60 or 70K US off on them. Ive even heard of one customer getting 100K off on a Trofeo. They want to move these things.

Sam, great video and lots of info. The car is competing in a busy space but a Bentley it will never be. Price point would put me off as much as the engine noise. Still a great design for the future
Do you think they are overlooked because of what the brand did with the Ghibli and Levante?
I’ve definitely seen that infotainment system someplace. A seven hour flight for a American Coffee is a bit much. Maserati biggest plus point is it’s not run of the mill, it’s a bit different form the usual BMW,Merc,Audi crowd.
Would love a breakdown of what Turo cost to hire a car like that in the states. I was thinking model 3 because I think it would look after me, keeping me right coming from Scotland. Would love to do Coast to Coast.

Love love the new GT. Sure a twin turbo V8 would have been more vocal but I see what they're doing. They need to work on market positioning and pricing though. This would make a great daily
I’m not so sure they’re too far out with their market positioning and pricing. £140-180k does seems huge compared to the £85k that we might associate with Mazza coupes , but sub-£100k prices are sadly a thing of the past. With an SL, 8 Series or Panamera now costing £100-150k and with Aston, Bentley and Ferrari only operating over £200k, there might now be space in between for Maserati?

Had a Maserati GranTurismo 4.7 for 3 years. Epic GT car for cross Europe jaunts. Never broke down 100% reliable, just standard servicing when needed. Amazing sound from the engine and beautiful head turning looks plus when you need to get out at a junction people stop to let you go unlike in a Ferrari, Lamborghini or such.
When mine was new in 2014 it was just under £100k and depreciated briskly 😄. I think a lot of folks will struggle to accept £165k basic for the new model. A rise of 60%! 🫣.
Sam get a maserati you will love it. After a bit of time it will grow on you and nothing will pull your heart strings like it....

How long will you be in New York or in the States?
Wish I knew you were in town. You drove through my neighborhood> recognized the roads I drive every day. I also have a 2017 F-Type R and a 2019 Miata. If you want a tour guide of the best roads to drive in this area, I'll keep an Eye on this video for a few days.
Hope you do get to drive it on a trip around Europe, Sam. Im sure the guys at Maserati Brussels can help you..
Perhaps it will be interesting to test drive both the old and new gran turismo back to back to know if whether some of all parts really resulted in a better car by Maserati
Sorry Sam but you forgot to put a sub bass filter on this video or you have got a new lav mic. Either way this video is completely unwatchable on my tv with surround sound system as the subs are jumping around with the rumble from the car which is massively boosted in this video. Love your work and hope you sort it for next video.....

Growing up and having the MC12 being THE "Maserati" really left everything to follow feel like such a let down tbh, even the MC20 which I was hoping to be more extreme just looks like a Emira. Hoping this big electric push they're doing brings some spirit to the brand.
Those roads are awesome!! Coffee tip, Coffee Labs Roasters in Tarrytown. 50 minutes above New York. Great town with views on the Hudson and the coffee is great.
Maserati owners are happy to be overlooked and forgotten. Its an exclusive club for a small number of folks with outstanding good taste but whom have zero need to shout about it. Thats how it should be. With luck, this will depreciate like hell as the original did and i can join the Maser GT club again!
