Hank fell 500 feet down the face of a Montana mountain in 1976 and almost died. He had major injuries to his face and skull. Surviving it, let alone regaining the ability to sing, was a bit of a miracle. He's tough as they get. I don't know what he smokes, but I'm sure it's good for him.

Hank Sr had lifelong pain from spina bifida and “self medicated” with drugs and alcohol. His sad songs, rowdy life style, and tragic early death has been romanticized and really built the foundation of country music.

That is a lap steel guitar. If you're on this country music journey you are going to be hearing it A LOT....at least in the good classic country. Also, I hope others have told you why/how jim Beam tried to kill him in 1973! He was on a hunting trip and got drunk as heck the night before while around the campfire. Then while hunting he ended up falling off a cliff and was severely injured. In fact, he broke so many bones in his face that he has had a beard ever since just to hide his disfigurement.

Hank, Jr.’ S father was Hank,Sr, the first big country superstar, back in the forties and fifties. You might call him the founder of country music. He was a more than just a singer/songwriter. He a genius. The Pulitzer Prize Board honored him with a special citation as a songwriter and for his contributions to making country music a force in the cultural and musical life of America. I’M SO LONESOME I COULD CRY. is probably his most well known song.

Then Hanks sings, "Why do you roll smoke", and the audience yells "Get stoned", then Hank, "Why do you live out the songs that you wrote" and we yell, "get laid". 😄 We are close to Hank's age and have loved his voice, music and talent from the beginning. Both of them back in their day had issues with alcohol and illegal substances Hank Hank pretty much got over the worst of his when he fell off a mountain the thing you've got to remember here the family tradition that he is talking about is country musics tradition at the time this was being performed there was a splinter in country music Hank Williams Jr Waylon Jennings Willie Nelson Kris Kristofferson Johnny Cash they all became known as outlaws because they didn't want to make the process pablum that the country music industry wanted them to make m and what they are discussing in the song is less about Hank Roland smoke and getting stoned and singing All night Long and more about what he was singing in the way he was singing it.

Hank Williams is one of if not the original country music outlaws. He died at age 29 on New Years Day from a combo of insomnia pills and booze, deemed heart failure as cause of death. Needless to say Sr. was a partying guy. Now the instrument was a steel guitar, very common in country music. Theres lap steel, console steel, and the one used in this video was a pedal steel guitar. Of the Williams', IMO, Hank Williams is the best, Hank3 is 2nd, then Jr, then 4. Hank 4 doesnt have much material to go off of just yet. Lost Highway by Hank Sr and Smoke and Wine by Hank3 would be 2 recommendations id have. Great video sir!

you have to understand that Hank Williams Sr was the godfather of country music. Many older people like my parents considered him a Icon so when Hank Williams Jr was smoking pot and womanizing they thought it was a disgrace to his father. Both were incredible singers but very different and were in very different times but Hank Williams Jr felt a lot of pressure to keep his fathers golden image. The funny thing is that his father was also a drinker and drug addict.

Thats funny that a Neil Diamond song is a pub song in the UK.
    Bit O' Trivia:
In 2007, Diamond revealed that his inspiration behind "Sweet Caroline" was actually written about a young Caroline Kennedy. Kennedy, who was no more than 12 years old at the time, was pictured on a magazine cover riding a horse. Diamond felt a connection to the picture.
Diamond has said he actually wrote the love song about his then-wife Marcia, but her name didn't fit the tune. However, he had remembered a magazine photo he had seen of Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of John F Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy.

Hank Sr. was an alcoholic and due to being born with back injuries he got to be a drug addict doctor prescribed. He died at 29. Jr was only 3. And got addicted to the same. Jr's son Hank III ...the same.
    Family Tradition there for you.
Sub'd to see what other country you watch.
May I btw suggest The Rolls Royce of Country Music... The Possum...George Jones.

it's called a dual neck pedal steel guitar it has foot pedals and knee levers underneath it to change the tone and sound of it, and what is being slid across the strings is called a tonebar.

Hank refused to record the songs the labels wanted him too do . He instead did his own stuff gave Nashville music industry the finger and along with artists Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and a few others created" outlaw " country music sometimes called rock-a-billy music . 🎶 As a Fellow Alabama boy Hank speaks to my soul !

Bocephus ( pronunciation Bo see fuss) is Hanks jr.’s nickname. Most everyone calls him that. Bocephus fell off the side of a mountain while on a climb. His face was crushed. That’s why he always has a beard. A father and son were on the climb with him. The boy stayed with Bocephus and talk with him. Keeping him alive until his father could bring help.

I love your reactions videos & usually watch your site daily. I love that you ask questions about the music & that you like researching information on songs that are new to you. Many of us grew up on country music but I’ve wondered how an English Gent even discovered country music. In doing genealogy research, I found my ancestors came from England. John Wooldridge was born in 1678 & came to America as a young man. I’ve met some of my English cousins on Facebook & have decided there is a lot to learn about your food & customs.

That instrument is a steel guitar or pedal steel. There is also the lap steel which is played on the lap. And there are single neck and double neck steels. You should listen to Buck Owens "Steel Guitar Rag".

What is that plucking guitar thingy?
It's the "Electraharp," its pedals and mechanical system able to alter various string pitches to create smoothly voiced and modulated chords.
** It is the upgrade to the 1939-40 Electric "lap" steels that were popular for nearly a decade and traced their origins in part to the wide use of steel guitars in the music of Hawaii.

I liked how he actually lived a life in the open and damn those who did the same behind closed doors.
Country music was breaking away from what had become prima Donna's with men wearing disposing tight jeans and women teats hang half out jeans cut front and back down to smell , in other wordsthey who could not realy sing in own voices and need lights boo s on males or female as deep as colored lighys..
He and Willie and a few females could sing but money of record companies Allen them rebels because they told producers kiss their ass a d be are even more well know personallities.
