I'd go camping with my grandparents all the time. Grandpa and my job was to start the camp fire for cooking but first he'd put some music on. He put in a cassette tape of Johnny Cash on and "A Boy named Sue" was the first song I heard from Johnny and I was hooked. I'm almost 47 and been a Johnny fan since I was 7 years old.
My daddy loved Johnny Cash! I don’t think there was ever a song that he did but my dad he did not like. On my daddy’s 76th birthday, which was a week before he died, we had a lunch for him. At the restaurant I played all Johnny Cash songs on the jukebox for him.
Johnny knew no prisoners would bother him. He wasn't quite about the time he spent in the Big House himself. I had a lot of respect for him not only because of his music but because of his character.
My Dad saw ONE concert in his life.....JOHNNY CASH !!! My generation got to know him from his amazing Prison Ministry...He was absolutely known and loved before that, but the prison program grabbed us, and made him insanely popular not just with our parents, but the new generation as well. A true legend,
Shel Silverstein wrote this song for johnny. He also wrote Johnny's hit One Piece at a Time. Johnny looks down through the whole performance because he had the lyrics taped to the floor - he had only heard the song the night before and had never performed it
He was one of the best Story tellers in Music. Period. American Country music would never have been the same without him.! Thanks for the great reaction!
Merle Haggard was an inmate at San Quentin prison during one of the times that Johnny performed there. That was before Merle started his music career. I guess life came full circle later down the road, when he did an imitation of Johnny on a show, and Johnny came out and sang with him.
Thank goodness for old school country music. And a local radio station here that plays all the oldies, Hank FM plays this song at least a couple of times a week. Keep going down this road, Sir.
As some said it is live from San Quentin Prison and the audience are inmates. Also the show was released on record and the "son if a bitch" was beeped out as such language wasn't allowed on record in -69.
I grew up with John. and a bunch of others. He had a music show and sang this, but 'bleeped' out the SOB part. He was singing to prisoners here. Really miss the old time stuff, variety hours, Hee Haw, Rowen & Martins Laugh In, Carol Burnett. Dean Martin. All gone.
Here's a few country songs that are appropriate for this month - "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky" by Johnny Cash, "Johanna" by Bobby Mackey, "Midnight in Montgomery" by Alan Jackson, "The Ride" by David Allan Coe, "Monster's Holiday" by Buck Owens, "Gravedigger" by Willie Nelson, "Marie Laveau" by Bobby Bare, "The Legend of Wooley Swamp" by Charlie Daniels, "Phantom 309" by Red Sovine, "Jeannie's Afraid of the Dark" by Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner and "Ghost in This House" by Alison Krauss
"Sunday Morning Coming Down" is my Johnny Cash favorite. It might be just "Sunday Morning", I'm not sure. Written by Kris Kristofferson, but Johnny sings it the best.
To get a good grasp on his music, try God's Gonna Cut You Down.He did the song years ago and after his death, many stars came together out of love for him and put the video together. You may have to look up some of the people in the video and you may recognize some but all are great in their own way
Great video to choose! This is from his famous performance at Folsom Prison. I saw him at the Canfield Fair in Ohio the same year that he did this performance. (Note: I was just a little guy then in the single digits, but still remember the performance.)
Johnny Cash has other songs with a dark humor. The primary one is "One Piece At A Time". Also: "Walk The Line" "Ring of Fire" "The Man In Black" "Folsom Prison Blues" "Cocaine Blue"
Cash didn't write this, but he did write a great song called Songs That Make A Difference about the first night he heard Shel Silverstein do it.Also that night,in his living room, was the first time he heard Kris Kristofferson's Me and Bobby Mcgee,Bob Dylan's Lay Lady Lay and Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now.Would have loved to have been at that dinner party. My favorite version of Songs That Make A Difference is by The Highwaymen{Cash,Waylon,Willie and Kristofferson)check it out
He actually did several really funny songs he did a political piece called the one on the right he did one piece at a time of course a boy named Sue and one called I've been everywhere. If you want the absolute best the man has to offer look for a piece called The Man in Black you'll enjoy all of them
I like "The One on the Right Was On The Left." It's pretty funny. The really old Cash songs are the ones I like best. Get Rhythm is up beat. Hey Porter is happy enough about going home.
If you want a really sad country sing, you need to do Alyssa LIES by John Michael Caroll. It's based on a true story. Many people watch the video but don't realize that the guy with long blonde hair is the actual singer himself. I can't ever hear that song without crying like a baby.😭💕
I turn 50 tomorrow and I just realized my best friend since I was around 10 is named after Johnny and this song she has to be her dad for some reason named her Johnny Sue Ann 😂😂😂
Johnny had a good sense of humor !! I think he wrote this around 1976! Be sure you listen to “one piece at a time”. another clever song by Johnny Cash!! You’ll love it!! Listen to June Carter and Johnny singing “I’m going to Memphis”, another great country classic! Nice reaction!!
FYI the 2nd verse is missing on this video and it's a good one. "Well he must have thought it was quite a joke and it got a lot of laughs from a lot of folks Seems I had to fight my whole life through Some girl would giggle and I'd get red Some guy would laugh and I'd bust his head I tell ya life ain't easy for a boy named Sue."
Hi I just found your channel. If you don't mind me making a few suggestions Ray Stevens "The Mississippi squirrel revival" , Brad Paisley "I'm going to miss her", Chris Cagle "Chicks dig it" and Toby Keith " How do you like me now" none of these will make you cry ( maybe from laughter )
AT one of his prison concerts, that is where he met Merle Haggard, who was a prisoner there at the time. Merle and Johnny talked and that is where Merle changed his ways. When he left prison, he started singing and became well known. President Reagan gave him his pardon and he of course, did a concert where President Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy attended. ua-cam.com/video/6wIxF-PE1y0/v-deo.html BTW, here's the video of Johnny's full concert at San Quentin in 1969 ua-cam.com/video/O4YrDfvqPS4/v-deo.html
Martina McBride "I'm Gonna Love You Through It" pleeeez! Wouldn't it be amazing to use your platform to save just one life...October is BREAST CANCER AWARENESS and early detection can be lifesaving. It was for me. Thanks. ❤❤❤❤❤
Still need to check out Hoyt Axton...the most underrated country musician...."Della and the Dealer"....you're gonna love the lyrics, I promise, so catchy you'll be singing this in your sleep...."Evangelina" and "Wild Bull Rider"...very southwestern cowboy, with Mexican influence.
Legend country outlaw, The Hag ( Merle Haggard) was in the crowd of prisoners. Next crazy song One Piece At A Time. one way to get a Cadillac car, if you don't mind the wait. Little played but very good is him and June Carter Cash / If I Were A Carpenter.
Believe it or not there's a woman that reacted to Alan Jackson WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE WORLD STOP TURNING & didn't know what it was about I believe she goes by KEZNITH, even if your in a cave you know is what I told her. TY again my friend
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 62YO Love your reaction ♥ Try this Folks country one The Zac Brown Band Live from Austin City Limits Song is about simplicity and Love " 🎵 FREE/IN TO THE MYSTIC 🎵 " Keep the good work my friend ✌
You need to watch the life Story of Johnny Cash... and how he ended up with his wife...June Carter Cash... it's good, it's sad.. all at the same time...
I would love to see you react to some songs by Ray Stevens. He has recorded serious songs, like Everything is Beautiful, but most of his songs are funny. PLEASE see if you can work into your schedule, "It's Me Again, Margaret" or "Mississippi Squirrel Revival." Both of those songs are hilarious.
there's a verse in this version missing between the first and the second one: "Well he must have thought that it was quite a joke because it got a lot of laughs from a lot of folks. Seems I had to fight my whole life through. Some gal would giggle and I'd get red. Some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head. I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named Sue." After that comes the verse about him roaming from town to town to hide his shame and watching to kill the man that gave him that name lol :). idk why but it's funnier to me as a complete song, not a chopped one like this :)
This concert was filmed in a prison- all the audience members are prisoners. Johnny did a lot for prison reform.
All time fav ❤️
Not just any prison, Amy--that was shot at Folsom, a maximum security prison.
He also skipped the 2nd verse.
He peformed for Merle Haggard when he was in prison
@@hookalakah He also played San Quentin and he sang both Folsom Prison Blues, and San Quentin while there.
@@matheo1231 according to some interviews with Merle it was after that concert that he decided to clean his life up
Written by the late great Shel Silverstein. He was a genius. He even wrote children's books. Gone entirely too soon. One piece of a time by Johnny
Shel Silverstein?! I didn't know that! I love all the songs that Shel wrote for Dr Hook . . . just wonderful stuff! Thanks for the fact. : )
Shel also wrote "One's On The Way" for Loretta Lynn which was also written tongue in cheek.
Didn't know that ty
I like the clip because it does show he's laughing while singing. Playing to a prison audience too..
Kickin and gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer... one of the best constructed and memorable lytic lines ever written....!
I'd go camping with my grandparents all the time. Grandpa and my job was to start the camp fire for cooking but first he'd put some music on. Love johnny ❤❤❤❤debbie
The prisoners loved when he came and played for them!! Now you should try One Piece at a time!! R.I.P Johnny!!
"One Piece at a Time" is a fantastic song by Johnny Cash.
Another fun song by Johnny is his duet with his wife June Carter doing “Jackson”.
And he recommended it and an entire album in that prison
Johnny loved playing for the convicts.
😊yes sir! Well done.
I was born and raised in the Gatlinburg in the song. Still live in the area. Thought this song was great.
No one could tell a story like the legendary Johnny Cash..one of a kind! RIP Johnny!💞🇺🇸🎼🎶🤠
My daddy loved Johnny Cash! I don’t think there was ever a song that he did but my dad he did not like. On my daddy’s 76th birthday, which was a week before he died, we had a lunch for him. At the restaurant I played all Johnny Cash songs on the jukebox for him.
He was a great story teller
Lol. Yeah, I’ve always loved seeing this side to him. This song REALLY goes back but so glad you liked it.
Johnny knew no prisoners would bother him. He wasn't quite about the time he spent in the Big House himself. I had a lot of respect for him not only because of his music but because of his character.

Right? He laughed through the whole song .... so fun!
Thank you..your smiles.. ya awesome! :)
Two more by Johnny are "One Piece at a Time" and "How High's The Water, Mama".
This was recorded live at San Quentin prison in 1969. Seeing the reaction on the faces of those guys I'm sure it was hard for him not to laugh.
Shel Silverstein wrote this song for johnny. He also wrote Johnny's hit One Piece at a Time. Johnny looks down through the whole performance because he had the lyrics taped to the floor - he had only heard the song the night before and had never performed it

I guess life came full circle later down the road, when he did an imitation of Johnny on a show, and Johnny came out and sang with him.
In his day Johnny cash ranked right up there with all the big names of rock when it comes to live concerts
Johnny cash - one piece at a time is my favorite funny song he did
Love "One Piece at a Time".
Now you need to do The Man in Black
Yes!
I was 10 years old when this song came out. I laughed so much at the lyrics. It's a great story
This was done live at San Quentin. Fun fact is that another at that time, soon to be country music legend was in the prison audience, Merl Hagerd.
Thank goodness for old school country music. And a local radio station here that plays all the oldies, Hank FM plays this song at least a couple of times a week.

If you watch Johnny Cash's "Man In Black" video, you will find out why he always wears black clothes!
Anyone else notice a verse has been deleted from the original song?
Johnny was also an actor, even saw him on a show with June Carter Cash as his wife.
This is my first time to hear this song. I liked it. I'm now going to watch the original. Thanks.

Folsom Prison Blues aint a happy song, but it's one of his best known. Jackson is a happy song he and his wife sang together.
I love Johnny Cash and I'm proud to say my 11 year old grandson is a new cash fan! He is timeless
You should react to him singing Man in Black live.
He left out a verse that says " some gal would giggle and I'd turn red and some guy would laugh and I'd bust his head"
Great video to choose! This is from his famous performance at Folsom Prison.
I saw him at the Canfield Fair in Ohio the same year that he did this performance. (Note: I was just a little guy then in the single digits, but still remember the performance.)

Two great Cash songs are Ring of Fire and the other is Ghost Riders in the Sky, not comedy but gorgeous old country music.
