  • 👇 materials & links below! 👇 What do you call something that is a coat rack, magnetic key ring holder, entryway organizer, mail storage, floating shelf… thing? We don’t know either. But we made it and so can you!
    NOTE: if you want to hang anything heavy on this you should mount it with something heavier duty like french cleats or keyhole hangers. You could also route keyholes right into the wood with a slotted router bit.

    More thoughts on the project; This coat rack has made our entryway way more functional! We love that so many different types of storage are built into this piece - hooks, shelves, and key magnets. We also like that we were able to make it with a pretty limited amount of tools and inexpensive lumber. Something like this could also be used as a display shelf in a kids room (trophies on top, coats and backpack on bottom). I think it would be interesting to add lips on the left and right side of the mail holder as well to turn that spot into a catch all.
    Also, we love the hooks we bought for this! They were SO much cheaper than most traditional coat hooks we found, they're simple and modern, and they're big enough to double up with coats.

    Using a block of wood to knock those magnets in instead of a hammer is a really good idea. Neodymium is pretty brittle and hitting it directly with a metal object can cause it chip pretty easily, leaving you with highly magnetic sharp bits everywhere!

      @EvanAndKatelyn  6 років тому +1

      +wonderwulf haha blessing in disguise I guess! Sharp magnetic shards do not sound like my idea of a good time 😋

    You guys are so goofy, I love it! Anything within hands reach is a hammer. For larger projects be careful using foam brushes in shellac because the foam will dissolve. Keep it up, you guys are killing it.

    • @EvanAndKatelyn
      @EvanAndKatelyn  7 років тому

      Hahaha, thanks Brian! True words about the hammer. Ooooooo did not know that about shellac dissolving foam brushes. We've used them a couple times for smaller projects but that's really good to know! We are still learning things as we go so we will definitely file away that tip in our brains, thank you!

    Excellent idea, thank you very much for sharing it.
    I am in the process of doing mine, it is already armed, tomorrow I put the sealer, although I still do not know what color to paint 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

      +Ce Quetzalcóatl Ángel thank you for watching! We always go with natural wood instead of paint but I bet it would also look nice in white or a fun bright color!

      Hello again.
      All or almost all of my living room furniture is dark brown (or chocolate). Apparently I will leave it in natural color.
      I made a few modifications to the original design, I put 5 neodymium magnets for the keys, two double hook shelves, and a large ferrite magnet between the two sections to lock (with another magnet) the receipts for light, water, etc., etc.
      Greetings from Mexico.

      We take turns filming each other and then setting up static shots with the two of us, but yeah just us filming. Slows down the project some but so great to capture it and have these memories to share 🙂

      Maurice Marshall hmmm, I'm having a hard time remembering (this project was from earlier this year) I believe we used wood screws we had on hand that were the correct length so that they didn't go through our backing

    Speed square with a circular saw turns it kinda into a mobile table saw with a fence.
    I don't know the length you chose but avoid drywall anchors etc just make it at least 18" that way you can screw into a stud on both sides since they're 16" on center.
    You guys did a great job!

    • @EvanAndKatelyn
      @EvanAndKatelyn  6 років тому

      +mixwell1983 yes! Aiming for studs will definitely make it stronger. Thank you!
