  • Part 4 of Installing a 50 year RV roof. I'm cutting and removing the EPDM Rubber Membrane in sections, exposing the rotten areas of the camper roof.
Starting the RV Roof Replacement on my truck camper. This is a 20 year old roof that needs replacement. I'm installing a 50-year RV roofing system that includes plywood deck, a 60mil Poly Sheet, sealing all edges with Eternabond type sealant tape and application of Crazy Seal RV Roof.

The old rubber roof came off easier than we expected. Reminded us like pealing off the skin of a bad sunburn. Amazing what you can find with a little digging. The corners are usually the first to go. Good opportunity to convert the fridge to 12 volt type that the new RV's are utilizing and you can eliminate the fridge roof vent since you are trying to reduce the propane use. We are sure you have a checklist of ideas you have to make it all new and improved. All is looking good. Cheers.

So satisfying to get that old roof off to see what needs to be repaired. I will be upgrading many appliances to 12V and other energy sources. My goal is to be able to run everything on 600 watts of solar and 300ah of LiFePO4 batteries.

It's to bad Fleetwood decided to use OSB instead of marine plywood.

Nearly every RV manufacturer uses or used OSB for the deck. It's really not a bad decking material but marine grade or CDX plywood is certainly a better material.

They saved $200 bucks at best using that crap osb. What a shame. And to not joint the gaps together structurally? Wow, what a hesd shaker. Hats off to you for seeing this through.

Seems like all the rot areas tend to be where there are mechanical pass throughs or vents.

Potentially. These are natural drain-off areas. Water tends to sit in these areas for longer periods of time and will find a way in. I'll show in the next video what I think happened around the vents etc. The good: These areas are very simple to repair and seal better than OEM.
