  • Framing & Installing the New Front Cap. 50-Year RV Roof. Part 8
Starting the RV Roof Replacement on my truck camper. This is a 20 year old roof that needs replacement. I'm installing a 50-year RV roofing system that includes plywood deck, a 60mil Poly Sheet, sealing all edges with Eternabond type sealant tape and application of Crazy Seal RV Roof.

Well you certainly make it look easy, I reworked the rotten side of a 1983 Lindy Motorhome, it was a Nightmare! But I got it fixed. Take care👍🏼🇺🇸

Awesome videos! I just got a 1996 Lance Squire Lite 195. It needs some repair in 3 locations. I did a "truck camper repair" search on UA-cam and your channel popped up. Wow, you have some amazing content! I've been watching all the roof/rot repair videos you posted on the Elkhorn truck camper. Learning a lot from you. Thank you!

👍🏻👍🏻. Great! These older campers are worth repairing.

@@covetthecamper2289 on this 96 lance squire lite 195 I'm considering removing the front cab over window. Where would I find solid matching aluminum siding to replace what's there now with the current window opening. Thanks.

You make it look easy Jeff! I have a feeling that our 2000 Elkhorn does not have the same foam rubber large radius piece in the bottom of the front cap that your 2003 Elkhorn has due to a dent in the bottom of mine.

It’s possible that yours was built using 6 separate plywood radius pieces screwed to the lower front cap panel with fiberglass insulation but I doubt it. I know that we used the cut foam round in the Fleetwood Tioga & Montara class C motorhomes starting in 1993 with the new Ford E350 and E450 chassis. I believe the truck campers started using the cut foam in the nose around 1997 on the vacuum bonded sidewall campers only. (Elkhorn and Caribou)

What do you use to glue the filon back on? It would be nice to find some adhesive that is consumer grade, not just commercial grade/hazmat.

Really enjoy your videos. I have a 2003 Lance 820. The entire front cap is rotten, including some of the sidewall. I am replacing my front cap with new filon. Can I ask what underlayment you used to glue your front cap, and what adhesive? On your video all I see is the framing. I’ve seen luan used. My curve is a 16” piece of thin tin. It was so delaminated, I can’t tell how it was attached. TIA

What adhesive did you use on your filon ?

Your work is very impressive. Have you considered the possibility doing Line-X your roof? Curious of your thoughts on that subject.

    • @covetthecamper2289

Thanks. Yes, I’ve looked into the compound characteristics of Line-X and other bed liner type materials. The issue I found is that Line-X, Rhino Liner and others are too stiff when cured. An RV roof needs to be covered in more flexible materials.
As you’ll see in future videos, (the roof has been completed for just over a month now) I applied a 50-year warranty roof using the Crazy Seal RV roof system. I’m very happy with it.

@@covetthecamper2289 look forward to seeing your upcoming video using a crazy seal roof system. Winterized my 2021 arctic fox 865, now working on recaulking while in pole barn. Been looking at options for roof waterproofing so very interested in seeing your solution.

What size of staples are you using to join wood together. 16 gauge or 18 gauge?

    • @covetthecamper2289
      @covetthecamper2289  Рік тому

Senco 16ga. The staples were just to hold materials in place while the adhesive cured.
3” Coated screws and 1-5/8” pocket hole screws were used after adhesive cured.
