I imagine Leylah wishes she was playing singles in a marquee situation but advancing far into tourneys has become more difficult for her of late. But at least she got to a final at the French Open. One thing bothered me to no end. I watched the match on Tennis Channel. Even though both Fernandez and Townsend had magical moments and blunders in equal measure, the American commentators gave credit and praised (the American) Townsend all the time, while criticizing (the Canadian) Fernandez incessantly. Leaving aside the rah-rah-rah "America is the greatest" etc...the American commentators tried to sow discord between the two wonderful girls and friends (Leyla and Taylor).

I did not watch the match but I infer by highlights that Townsend got overly excited and decided to whack every ball after winning the first set, then it turned into a singles-with-obstacles match for Fernández

Townsends overplayed in the second set and cast the dye for the third. I agree, Leylah trying to shorten the points didn’t help much either.

They still got a trophy. I think Townsend and Leylah are just warming up and can far in doubles.

French Open should have dress code for ladies player. Townshed’s bodysuit seems out of place in a tennis court.
