Magnifique interprétation! Thank you Thomas👏👏👏 One of the best organists!
Simply superb. Merci for posting.
I played this piece in 1980 for my degree finals and it has remained one of my favourite organ pieces ever since - along with the Poulenc concerto. Hearing and watching this I can't imagine now how I ever did it.!Thank you Thomas for bringing this touch of nostalgia to me and for a truly magnificent performance.
Amazingly astonishing
Outstanding in every way!!
I salute you Thomas for your impeccable and masterful rendition: it is not at all a matter of course to do justice to this demanding masterpiece but you did it, a beautiful convergence of composition, instrument and interpretation: BRAVO !!!
The gift of being able to play from memory - wonderful - and hands like that!
A most wonderful experience to hear. As if from another world. Magnificent...
Wow, that's a powerful thing you did there, chapeau!
I know the piece well because I played it in my final organ examination. And everything by heart, superb.
Best performance I've ever heard of this piece. Fabulous.
Must agree: one of the finest and most fluid interpretations of the piece, worthy of an SACD-recording
IMHO the greatest piece of organ music not composed by Bach. I wouldn't have believed it possible to have a better performance than Lisa Hummel's until I heard this. Absolutely awe-inspiring.
100% agree, this and Lisa Hummel's performace are my all-time favourites of this piece.
All the Pathos- all the atmosphere- all the charme and introspection. Perfectly played. Bravo!
Marvelous! And , being a Dutch organist. I am proud of the firma Van den Heuvel who built this beautiful instrument!
This is an amazing instrument. Truly symphonic, played by Thomas Ospital. He is stunning; more string or piano?
I am astounded that the French would let a Foreigner' touch one of their premier grand organs!
@@normanchristie4524 Goodness! I do hope you're at least half kidding :) ...would love to hear him play our Wanamaker instrument, have been in awe of that since childhood. Spectacular still. What beauty
@@normanchristie4524 touch it? They threw most of it out except for the facade and started over. Jean Guillot did the specification and they nuit it. If you’re interested go on the builders website and learn about it.
@@brucetominello325 The name is Jean Guillou (not "Guillot", even less "Guillotine" 😀) and you bet Jan van den Heuvel knew what he was doing: he kept the original 32-foot Trombone despite sounding like not much better than a muted Bassoon and added an overwhelming 32-foot Contre-Bombarde (at his own cost, he dedicated the stop to his employer, the City of Paris) ... Any questions left?
Absolute perfection.
Merci pour ce beau moment de musique !
Certainly the most complimentary tribute piece ever written.
Great comment
vous m'avez emporté deux larmes.
Very beautiful!!
C'est absolument magnifique. Merci.
Thank you! Brilliant!
Simplement magnifique , un grand merci Thomas Ospital.
Always enjoy your playing Thomas.
Must agree: one of the finest and most fluid interpretations of the piece, worthy of an SACD-recording
Splendide cette fugue !!!
Avec un crescendo incroyable !
Merci. 🙏🙏🙏
Great Thomas! What to espect of couple "Best organ&best organist" ❤️
Pure pleasure! Thanks a lot! Bravo!
Excellent
How beautiful!!! I"m just speechless. Such a spiritual interpretation! You just blew me away. Thank you so much!!
Beautiful in every way.
This takes me to heaven. Thank you so much for sharing this, Thomas! ❤
Merci Thomas A bientôt
Magnifique. Merci.
An excellent performance with beautiful cinematography and perfectly clear audio - does this piece justice
Must agree: one of the finest and most fluid interpretations of the piece, worthy of an SACD-recording
Che razza di organista! E che razza di organo! Che bello! Grazie!
Suberb... Thank you Thomas :)
First class playing of the best ever written. Thank you, Thomas!
Superbe interprétation, un grand merci !
Thank you! One of the best recordings of this great piece!
Must agree: one of the finest and most fluid interpretations of the piece, worthy of an SACD-recording
Danke Thomas.
Brilliant interpretation.
magnifica interpretazione, grande musica. Grazie dall'Italia.
Absolutely magnificent playing of a deep and enthralling piece in the literature
CHAPEAU, Thomas!!
His famous predecessor was called Jean Guillou (without "x") who master-minded the magnificent organ of St. Eustache as we know it today
Brilliant!
Best interpretation of this amazing piece on UA-cam! Thank you, Thomas ☺️
Merci Magnifique ... De Québec
Simply a breath-taking performance of one of my favorite works. Bravo, Maestro!
Magnifique !! Merci beaucoup !
A wondrful interpretation of this marvelous piece! Bravo, Mr. Hospital! C’est vraiment magnifique!
C’est superbe ! D’une grande clarté !! Bravo
Vraiment magnifique
Truly symphonic playing.
Amazing!!! I love this so much....Thank you Thomas!
Straordinario come sempre Thomas
Marvelous! Great job bringing out the little nuances!
Bravo! There's a fire in this I've never heard before. This is certainly my new favorite performance of this piece!
Must agree: one of the finest and most fluid interpretations of the piece, worthy of an SACD-recording
Bravo Maestro!!!!!! Saludos desde México!!!!!
Thank you for this absolutely superb performance Thomas
I would love to hear you play more Durufle. And maybe Durufle Requiem without the choir.
How funny you should say this: Maurice Duruflé originally conceived his Requiem for organ solo but changed his mind while working on it ...
Emouvant !!!
Merci Jesus :-)
inspiring, beautiful, energetic, powerful, graceful…..W O W
Here I am again . . . cannot get enough of this composition, organ or performer! And to think he is in the USA one state down 350 miles away this week and I cannot go to idolize him!
I envy all of you people at Longwood Gardens this week . . . especially the youngsters!!! @ThomasOspital #ThomasOspital
Quel régal! Merci Thomas .
Je valide cher Thomas :-)
There is so much nostalgia, tenderness, sorrow and yearning in this performance. But the section starting at 5:37 just breaks my heart. The loss of Jean Alain was such a tragedy for the musical world.
A Masterly and a very mature highly sensitive performance with full respect for the composition and the tradition. Very open articulation which shows the full musical potential of this piece.
Just stunning! and a big thank you for all these great videos from St Eustache! Especially the fugue is one of my absolute favourite pieces.
Such a marvelous tonal diversity from colorful and soft voices to the breathtaking thunder in the end.
Absolutely superb Thomas! I had the pleasure of hearing you in Northern Ireland last year - quite brilliant!
I absolutely love this piece! Bravo! Thank you for uploading this! One day, I hope to travel to France and hear this live.
Excellent!
Bravo! Breathtaking interpretation, Thomas!
One of my favorite pieces, and now my favorite performance of it! Merci! How about a totally Duruflé album of all his organ works?
January 22, 1902 Louviers, Eure, France - June 16, 1986, Louveciennes, Yvelines, France, age 84
It's so amazing that all his works (14), much less "all his organ works" (8) are SO VERY FEW!:
op 11 Messe Cum Jubilo 1966 1 Kyrie, 2 Gloria, 3 Sanctus, 4 Benedictus, 5 Agnus Dei
Méditation for organ circa 1964
====================
Again, even his TOTAL works for all instrumentation are a mere FOURTEEN
(not counting the first one lost)!!!
1 Ubi caritas, 2 Tota pulchra es, 3 Tu es Petrus, 4 Tantum ergo
1 Where love-charity, 2 Thou art all beautiful, 3 Thou art Peter, 4 Therefore so great
op 14a Notre Pére (Our Father) original unison version 1977
op 14b Notre Pére (Our Father) SATB version 1978
It is said that his so ferociously perfectionist nature so led him to destroy works he found inferior that his dear wife took to HIDING them lest they be destroyed, otherwise we might not have even these few treasures!
@@russedav5Even though his Suite survived, Duruflé was never satisfied with the Toccata, rewriting it several times and refusing to record it himself. When Virgil Fox visited his Paris apartment and stated he was going to perform it Duruflé reportedly asked him not to perform the Toccata.
@@russedav5 Maurice Duruflé apparently adopted the habit of his great master Paul Dukas to destroy most of his compositions and publish only very few of them: all of his works neatly fit on no more than 3 CDs ... What it lacks in quantity, it makes up for by its out-of-this-world quality
Wonderful!
Bravo!
Maurice Duruflé + Jan L. van den Heuvel + Thomas Ospital = l'alchimie de la perfection !

Um grande e poético intérprete. Surpreendente!
Magnífica interpretação. Timbres bem escolhidos, técnica limpa e precisa e musicalidade a flor da pele.
