  • Nathan Laube performs Maurice Duruflé's beloved "Prélude et Fugue sur le nom d'Alain," Op. 7 (1942) as part of a recital recorded for the 43rd National Convention of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) held in Louisville, KY in July 2020. The entire performance from which this work is extracted was streamed for attendees of the NPM Convention on July 8, 2020.
The organ was built by the Steiner-Reck Inc. Organbuilders in 1983 as a large two-manual instrument with a fully mechanical action and pipe scalings modeled after Dom Bédos. It was enlarged with two 32' stops, a Trompette-en-Chamade on an added third manual, and the provision of mechanical sub-octave couplers for the Great and Swell in 1994 by Webber & Borne. The organ as recorded for this video contains 42 ranks over three manuals; several new ranks are planned to be added in 2020 to complete the third manual.

This fugue is perhaps the most sublime written for the organ since Bach. And you more than did it justice. Fabulous.

    Alain Meyet (Paris)

Google: A big thank you to Nathan J. Laube for posting this video today and thus offering us this very recent and magnificent interpretation of the "Prelude and fugue on the name of A.L.A.I.N.", one of the major works of Maurice Duruflé, sublimated here by the impeccable technique of the organist and the intense poetry that emanates from it. Dear Nathan Laube, your organ recitals made available on the Internet are too few, it's a shame...
Happy birthday, Nathan, on the occasion of your 32nd birthday, which you have just celebrated! And all our best wishes for your recent wedding, on July 1, 2020, with your dear Adam Turner (your assistant in this video!)...
Let's hope that your visit to France, in May 2021 (May 25 in Paris, May 31 in Lyon), will not be disrupted this time! In 2019, you had to cancel due to surgery; in 2020, the coronavirus epidemic stranded you in Rochester... Now that you have brand new feet and that the virus will return to the bats, you will be able to come back and play in Europe: we are waiting for you, because you We miss you in France, know that!
      Best regards...
      Alain Meyet (Paris)

Years ago I played a video of Evgeny Kissin at age 8 or 9 , the children (third graders) all commented that he had Spider Hands that could move up and down the keyboard with ease. When I was watching you play the Durufle I thought "He has Spider Hands" with such a perfect elevation of the hands. You Knocked this out of the park! It also helps when you have a competent paginator!
