This was a time when they had no education about these things, today even with all the world’s education- people still do this. Maybe they are not this obvious, but they do. It’s always a woman’s responsibility. A man is always too innocent to understand anything by himself
Here's what I learned about stalkers from professionals: If they don't get the message from your body language, ESPECIALLY if you explicitly confirm with words that you're not interested, and they still persist, then you must cut them off 100%. Go to the police, go to your boss, go to a professional, anyone who can legally intervene. But never, NEVER acknowledge the stalker themselves in any way shape or form. The worst thing you could ever do with a stalker is to show them any attention AT ALL (whether you try to understand them, try to be courteous, or react with anger, or threaten them - anything). The more attention you give them, the further they'll go. But don't suffer in silence. Make sure all the relevant authorities are aware of the situation so they can give you protection.
My stalkers was someone from the Goth subculture. He saw me at collage and never interacted with mr but somehow, convinced other people around him that I was a Goth because of him. 3 collages later, different hair colours and styles. He still found me. I discovered that a “friend” had told him where I was working and everything about me. Everything, how long I had been a Goth and why. My family. So that is why he kept on finding me. One day, he brought some of his friends to my workplace all men. They waited for me. I passed and one of them cared me a,”Little Bi**h.” And they tried to grab me. I ran and in my fear on my way home hiding from these men. I had wet myself. After that I left the Goth scene. But suffered from anxiety and panic attacks afterwards. No one believe me that he was stalking me because he was polite and articulate. I never had enough evidence either and my friends. Were not my friends.
There are so many psychopaths and sociopaths everywhere. When someone's stalking you, don't act like "Nothing will stop me I don't want to be a victim" attitude. Act fast and set your boundaries. Some stalkers are too dangerous and crazy. You need to block them away from you immediately. They need a long looong rest in a jail and or asylum. Stay safe, everyone. And thank you for the movie.

One day she came into my office, on a Saturday afternoon when she knew from experience there was nobody there, and started "satisfying herself" in front of me. Me? "X--her name--, I need more Splenda in my coffee! Be right back!" Still haven't gone back, but she still tried to drag me through the mud with false accusations of other things. He just COULD NOT handle being rejected by such a beauty. He should have realized the beauty was only the eye of the beholder. Certainly, rejections hurt, but the people have to handle them with grace and move on.
@@bettywiendels5714 in real life the actual Laura Black was just a moderately pretty girl not as beautiful woman like the actress. Her looks was not like Cleopatra or super model. The stalker just could not handle the fact that a woman was not interested in him.
I’ve had a stalker for over 15 years. He just recently contacted me to tell me it was my fault another relationship didn’t work out because of me. I’ve been married for 14 years. I live with security, dogs and aware neighbors. It is scary and exhausting. He will never stop.
I am so so sorry. With the laws which have changed, I hope you can get a restraining order or something. I had a stalker for 7 years, he found out where I worked, went to college. Nobody believed me because I never had enough evidence.
this movie was in my suggestions randomly and im glad i watched it. wouldnt have guessed it was based on a true story. never heard of this mass shooting before. RIP to all the innocent lives taken that day.
As a woman, you can only think about all the wounded inside while the police negotiates and thinks. It was a very good negotiation, in the end, and I was very touched to see many walking out at the end of the movie. It was a real tragedy with happy endings, too.
I had a situation like this at a company when I was an intern in a rich part of my city. It started with the guy offering me a ride home almost every day, getting a coffee near my desk, entering the rooms when I was alone in there. Once I was getting some files organized in a file room when he entered, harassed me and at some point he turned the lights off. I called for help and some people came for me a while after and told me they would do whatever they could to stop that, one of the HR girls even told me he sent innapropriate messages and could be a witness for me. I told my dad what happened and he told me not to go back ever again because he just knew, men just know other men. They scheduled a meeting between me, the company and the educational instituition, when I got there with my dad, they had the hr, lawyers and everything prepared. The hr girl was there and denied she ever spoke to me about the messages and the lawyer told me I shoul be glad for being complimented by the guy. Of course I was let go, ashamed, betrayed and no one stood by my side except for my dad. As I said, men just know other men.
My name is Laura and this movie is scary a lot (along with Sleeping with the enemy with Julia Roberts) but Brooke Shields and Richard Thomas are incredible, such a tragedy story
Love this movie! Also known as "I Can Make You Love Me." It's kind of nice seeing a film set in the corporate environment of the tech/software companies of the '80s & '90s - a very interesting (and often overlooked) era for that industry. Brooke Shields plays well in this, she's very sweet but also comes across as intelligent & capable, and Richard "John Boy" Thomas is fantastic - he can make a surprisingly effective villain (see another excellent film of his, "Down, Out & Dangerous," where he plays an even more villainous monster). The really frightening thing about this film is that it's based on a true story, and for the most part is reasonably close to the reality of what happened to poor Laura Black.
Stalking is very scary situation. I remember being stalked by a classmate when I was in the 9th grade. When I told my parents that I was being stalked; my father told me I was provoking the boy by enticing him. Thankfully the boy moved due to his father being reassigned to another location.
Unfortunately victim blaming is very common in stalking cases, even today. The families of the people Richard Farley killed still blame Laura for the deaths of their relatives, at least partially.
Taken him seriously?! They were too busy raking in the dollars jerks like him were (and are still) making for them. This Silicon Valley area was one of the first parts of America to go up its own anus. Nothing mattered but the big bucks. So we got Trump and all the shit that brought with it.
Thomas Richard, what an actor .. just wow, I would have to give it 10 out of 10. This movie is far beyond than imagination... for me, it is unbelievable that the movie was released in 1993. Ultimate😍🤗 love from Uttrakhand, India 🇮🇳
At the first hint people that someone is " sketchy " they are!! Pay attention always to new people in your life. Right? Right! Good job Brooke. You always choose films with a message.
I once met this guy and we were supposed to go on a date. But I had a dream about him hurting me. I never had that before. I cancelled. I later found out that he was known to police. A real creep.
All this would not have happened if guns and ammunition were not sold freely in the US. Countless lives could have been saved had there been any curbs and laws on selling weapons
For those of you who think Richard Thomas disappeared off the face of the acting world, he is NOW starring as Atticus Finch in the Broadway production of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.

12': I love how he blames her clothing for his attitude. 'It gives people the wrong impression'. You get that argument from other women a lot too (slut-shaming). I used to work in a factory, the work was physically demanding so like lots of my female colleagues, I wore leggings and a baggy t shirt, as if it had been an aerobic class. We had to wear a labcoat on top of our clothes (and a hairnet, and gloves, and safety shoes) and I'd always choose an extra large labcoat, to hide my figure (I'm a size medium). People could only see my figure when I arrived and left, and when I was in the canteen. In spite of that, one of the Romanian managers, a woman, kept bad mouthing because I have never been married or in a relationship, I've never had children, and I am not in touch with my family (I was sexually abused from early childhood until early adulthood, when I left them). She just wouldn't let go of her fantasies that I must have worked in the prostitution industry. She was constantly criticising my body, saying that I looked like a ballerina, like a top model, and I shouldn't work in a factory because I didn't need the money as I didn't have children and I could find myself a wealthy husband.
People just don't look outside their circle and live in little box in their safety zone with their own skeletons dancing in their closets. How dare they judge. They can't even see their own reality clearly.
Those HR fools did not care about Laura. They were more worried about protecting Farley's security clearance and covering the company's ass than with Laura's right to be free from harassment.
In our culture, we say love is blind. It not only blinds the sight from seeing reality, but also blinds the mind from the right action. This is what happened in this true story.
@@GiftWilliams-zp9rf No, this is not love , it is a pathological attachment and it is a condition that one must be careful of, because rejecting this type of people often leads to a violent reaction, so the rejection must be tactful and kind, which is what the girl did not do in the real story.
Has to something done about the gun laws in the US. Shouldn't have been allowed to buy so much weapons and bullets. Its crazy over there. Hope poor Laura is doing well now.
If any stalker reading this and going through mental agony right now, all you have to do is keep repeatedly praying to God and ask for guidance to come out of the pain you are going through. Focus your mind somewhere else and move far away from the person you are obsessed with. It is a bad phase of life you maybe going through and it is temporary and you will get healed with God’s grace and even find a better partner than the one you are obsessed with.
Was. She was. And any female who grew up back then had it incessantly rubbed in their faces. Look at her now. Not quite the "divine beauty" she used to be.

Beautiful music. Beautiful architecture. How frustration can turn to hate and hate to wrath. There is a point, somewhere, when insanity starts leading. It is good to know that there are many things that may help a frustrated person before reaching the no return point.

Little has changed actually. Just watch some true crime documentaries.

Men.

What excellent acting from Brooke Shields, she was brilliant and no doubt been good in other films she's been in.
Well said! 😊
Also, thanks for the heads up on the other film as well. I'll check it out. 🎉
There also is DEATH IN SMALL DOSES.
@@maricamaas2326 Aww thank you. 😊

Stalking is very scary situation. I remember being stalked by a classmate when I was in the 9th grade. When I told my parents that I was being stalked; my father told me I was provoking the boy by enticing him. Thankfully the boy moved due to his father being reassigned to another location.
I'm glad you're ok.
Unfortunately victim blaming is very common in stalking cases, even today. The families of the people Richard Farley killed still blame Laura for the deaths of their relatives, at least partially.
Can't believe your own dad didn't do anything about it but gave you the fault 😢
His employers should have taken him seriously when he made those threats.
Taken him seriously?! They were too busy raking in the dollars jerks like him were (and are still) making for them. This Silicon Valley area was one of the first parts of America to go up its own anus. Nothing mattered but the big bucks. So we got Trump and all the shit that brought with it.
I agree. HR failed in that area. Laura complained many times and HR person was too complacent and refused to believe her. A

Waoooooooooo!!
jealousy is like the grave as proverbs in the bible tells us...so true... sadly so so true.

Do you always smile that way ?? Disgusting way people used to act to women being harassed
Those HR fools did not care about Laura. They were more worried about protecting Farley's security clearance and covering the company's ass than with Laura's right to be free from harassment.
Victim blaming 😢

In our culture, we say love is blind. It not only blinds the sight from seeing reality, but also blinds the mind from the right action. This is what happened in this true story.
This is not love
@@GiftWilliams-zp9rf No, this is not love , it is a pathological attachment and it is a condition that one must be careful of, because rejecting this type of people often leads to a violent reaction, so the rejection must be tactful and kind, which is what the girl did not do in the real story.
