Batman: You've endangered lives all over the city. Nora would never have wanted this. Mr. Freeze: No, what she wants is to live a long life under the warmth of the sun...her hand in mine. But because of him, she'll only feel the icy touch of a man whose emotions run as cold as the blood in his veins!

Out of all the Batman villains, Mr. Freeze is the one I feel sorry for the most. Guy never got a break. His parents disowned him because all he wanted was to save animal lives. He was married but that happiness ended quickly because she got ill and Fries tried to save her but businessmen threatened to pull the plug and he got in to an accident surviving only in sub-zero temperatures. His body deteriorated leaving him nothing but a head. More businessmen betrayed him in Batman Beyond. His last words before he died were "Believe me, you're the only one who cares." Terry McGinnis was the only one who cared for him. Bruce Wayne cared for him too, but Terry knew Fries could redeem himself and he did.
i agree 110%, victor is only a desperate man trying everything to develop a cure for his wife, but in all honesty, how can they still be together if nora is cured, victor can only survive in sub zero temperatures, that will only add more pain
***** Victor Fries biggest weakness isn't his obsession with curing Nora or requiring subzero temperatures to survive. It's that, as the years pass, his humanity degrades. when I watch the animated series, where he's trying to get revenge on the man who pulled the plug on his wife's cure, made me cry at the end, just by listening to his heartbreaking speech to his wife while he sits in his cell at Arkham Asylum...
You know I kinda feel for Freeze. I mean if my wife (correction if I had one XD) was dying and I had to freeze her to save her and find a cure. I would turn to crime just as soon as he did. Besides, I feel like he could be villain I could reason with (unlike the Joker). He kinda reminds me of Magneto because they both have a reasonable cause to do what they do. Heck I wouldn't even call Magneto's cause villainous (then again I have only seen 1 of the X-men movies, but I still know a lot about him). I loved Mr Freeze in Batman TAS because he was a tragic villain who only wanted to cure his wife . Michael Ansara gave the character life and a voice to remember in Batman TAS :)
i hate straight up villians without motivation. Villains may be the bad guys, but that doesn't mean they aren't characters too. I need to feel some sort of emotion towards a character otherwise they are worthless, and whats the point of watching the good guy win if i felt nothing for the villain?
Truly one of the most sympathetic characters of The Batman franchise. Also one of my favorite villains of all time. Under that armor and new body that he had got, he still has a heart for his beloved Nora. You could say he has a "Heart of Ice".
if you think about it, Mr Freeze is actually the Nice guy here, he just want to save what he see beautiful by freezing them to make them last forever (yes, I know that is wrong but in Victor mind it just seem the right thing to do).
Victor's heart was in the right place at least. The problem was the unloving environment he grew up in. He kinda never learned about basic human emotions like empathy and love until Nora, since she was the first person to ever show him love.
that last clip just gives me goosebumps! I love Mister Freeze mostly because he actually has a reason for doing what he is doing (unlike villains such as Joker) He just wants to save his wife, the one person who shows him love. And also in the animated Subzero movie he cares for an orphaned child while in Antarctica. He isn't all bad, there is still hope:)
Mr. Freeze is such a complex character I just can't wrap my mind on him. He's really not a ciminal, he only has one thing that brings him happiness...Nora Fries everything else in his life is nothing but pain and suffering. He's a "the end justifies the means" man in which I can't really blame him...so here os the dilema.. On one hand I understand and justify his actions but on the other I undersstand his ways are wrong. I heard they changed his background in the new 52 which that's a shame. Not all the villains have to get evil.
I agree, I mean in reality he just wants his love of his life to be alive and well again. I can't blame him since if I lost someone that dear to me knowing I can possibly save them, I too would do everything to save that person. Though one thing I just realized, why doesn't he just made a suit for Nora to keep her alive or is there something I'm missing that would make that impossible?
GaarasIchibi88 She's frozen not to keep her alive, but to stop a disease she has from progressing. He's keeping her frozen until he can find a cure for her.
Wolf Wyvern Which is the problem! DC doesn't get it, Batman villains are known for being characters that people feel sorry for. I will say, I like The New 52 version of Scarecrow's story better, though. I liked his old one, but his new one is better. I like the idea that he started off with his Father's research rather than starting from scratch.
he's always been my fav batman villain, simply because he was willing to do whatever it took for his wife. if that's not true love i don't know what is. also on a side note, I really liked his incarnation in the Batman Beyond series, a really unique take on his suit/abilities
What sickens me the most is because how the system works in batman's universe could not clearly see the mechanations behind such a villain turning into what he was. Give him Nora, allow him to save her, and in exchange for his crimes allow him to continue his research into saving people and his wife and working to stop crime instead of wasting funds keeping him in prison like that, and undoing the wrong he's done. My superpower would be to be a freaking lawyer in this world.
This is why I love the animated series. They gave Mr. Freeze such a compelling soul. If they wrote him for the big screen as great as they did in the animated series, I bet whoever played Mr. Freeze on film would be Oscar-worthy.
Batman: The Animated Series really made Mr. Freeze a great character. His origin story and desire to save Nora just brought another dimension to the character. Now it doesn't feel right to see Mr. Freeze portrayed any other way.
He is not a crazy, just a man on a genius level with a horrible accident, plus he would do anything to save his wife, really, this man is more realistic in his motives, more caring than most villains, a tragic state of mind, depression and worry fuel his criminal acts...
I enjoyed learning about Mr. Freeze's formative years and how he would literally freeze animals he loved in the hope that they would somehow be saved from death albeit a slightly demented but also strangely altruistic theory. Mr. Freeze is by far one of the most interesting of Batman's villains because of his love for his wife Nora who is ultimately his fundamental reason for becoming a Super-villain initially. When you look at the symbolic relationship that exists between Mr. Freeze and his wife there are many subtle and explicit commonalities and ironic twists they share. Mr. Freeze and Nora in order to exist both require temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit is a fact explicitly stated throughout the mythology of Mr. Freeze but while Nora suffers from a debilitating disease, Mr. Freeze is essentially biologically mutated into a being that requires a sub zero environment to survive. Considering that "normal" humans require an internal body temp. of 98.6 Fahrenheit to survive it can somewhat be assumed that Mr. Freeze is technically dead yet is still somehow animate unlike his wife who remain inanimate like a doll or figurine inside a snow-globe. The most ironic and sad aspect of Mr. Freeze's state is that even if he were to find the cure for his wife's disease, un-"thaw"? her and then cure her he would never be able to really touch his wife because of the subzero state he exists within. Mr. Freeze will never be able to feel the touch of his wife's "warm hand" because he is literally and emotionally cold at heart. He cannot feel love or warmth yet yearns for the warmth and love of his wife Nora.
mister freeze is easily one of the most relatable villains in comics. seriously. one thing id like to point out is this: mister freeze is drawn like a super hero while batman is drawn like a villain. literally that's what the art says if you just look at it with no preconceptions. mr. freeze is all bright colors and circles, which for some reason are pleasing to the eye and are generally seen to be good (theres really no explanation for this other than human eyes like circles), while batman is all dark colors and black and his polygonous base shapes are triangles. which are "evil" (again, its just a human eye thing. think about it this way, if darth vader were made with circles instead of triangles, would he look nearly as evil or intimidating?)
I'll admit it, the ending made me cry. Thanks for the video. I also would like to vote for videos of the origins of Black Mask I & II, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, Maxie Zeus, Lazara, Victor Zsasz.
I remember liking Mr Freeze when I was younger. I'm not into the comic scene as much as manga, but lately I've been considering getting into it more by rewatching the Batman Animated Series from the 90s. A lot of my friends love the comic scene.
I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for saying this, but... here goes... I think Arnold Schwarzenegger had the potential to be a great Mister Freeze. I think he was a victim of bad direction and bad script writing. If he'd played Mister Freeze more like he played T-800, it could have been an awesome portrayal.
AngelKay7 I agree I never I always I think the way the film was written was really to blame not Arnold Schwarzenegger who really just playing it the way it appeared in the script. If Mr Freeze was written as the awesome character we know him as he probably would have been better. no flaming here lol
I like mr freeze and all, and I know he's like a supergenius, but making your suit to be powered by DIAMONDS? Why can't it run on like.....cooking oil or something?
Max X you don't know me, we haven't actually spoken, and your first inclination is to pick a fight and end it in one comment? Nice. Nolan isn't a god, so don't try to guess my thoughts. TDK and TDKR are good but both have a bunch of plot holes. I definitely feel like the latter was rushed and neither give Batman much screentime or character development. However, I think you may be the first person to passionately defend Batman and Robin. Congratulations? I'm sorry if I hurt you as you clearly seem to care about the film.
I want to play Mr. Freeze in the movies someday but I don't want his suit to be like Arnold Schwarzenegger's I want it almost like from the animated series but live action with CGI.
Why a CGI suit when we can make the Xenomorphs and the Iron Man suit mostly practical effects? Or are you suggesting that it be a similar method to how the Iron Man suit was done?
At the beginning I felt sorry for him, but in Subzero he just started getting on my nerves. He hates the whole world instead of his bullies and ex boss, and he's so immoral only his wive's disapproval stops him from killing everyone. He's willing to kill an innocent girl to save his wife, attempts to kill Batman countless times, and he still takes it for granted that Batman should save him from an oil rig. Get over yourself already.
TheZombie13777 I am not moved. If people had the right to turn into psychopaths for that, then cancer patients and blinds should have already had a licence to kill.
You know, batman and mister freeze are kinda simillar...both of their motives are TECHNICALLY vengence(batman with joe chill,mr freeze with that....guy)but i think Mr Freeze lacks what baman has.....company!Bruce has had Alfred by his side telling him what's right and wrong all his life....Victor was alone!
Mr.Freeze isnt really a villian, he was just trying to bring his wife back to life like any normal person would, but got caught, authority didnt like what he was doing, so they tried to unplug her, and thats when he got mad and became a villian. Its not his fault, its athorities fault for making him mad.
Deep down inside I could cry, despite the crimes he committed are dark he just wants to find an cure for his beautiful dying wife, respect to you Mr Freeze I would do the same thing😢😥😟
Bruce Wayne's a bit of a dick. Think of it: if he gave Mr. Freeze the money to unfreeze and cure his wife, or developed technology to do as such, then Freeze wouldn't have a need to do all the stuff he does. One less 'villain', many lives saved and possibly an ally or at least friend for the future. But nope, Batty needs new 'rangs :P
Neither of those shows are considered canonical in the comics. The comics have taken inspiration from them, but not direct enough material to consider the plots canonical. Also, he showed humanity when Nora was saved. It wasn't long-lived, but it was enough to prove that all he wanted was funding so that Nora could return to him healthy. Finally, in TNBA, he stopped being a villain in the end...
I have always considered Mr. Freeze to be among my favorite Batman villains. However, I would have not used the character in a live-action Batman movie from the 90s as Mr. Freeze started to gain popularity shortly after his debut on Batman: The Animated Series and later on in the comics.
Fun fact!: He originally got the name Mr. Freeze in the Adam West Batman show. When the show ended Mr. Zero name was changed to Mr. Freeze in Detective Comics #373. They even have Robin mention that the name sounded like something from a campy action show.
On my seventh birthday, my parents gave me a present. I opened it and found out a mr freeze toy character. i liked, was my favorite toy, but i lost few years later and i never realized the story behind that character until now. Glad i stumbled upon this video!
one of the many reasons I love Batman the Animated Series was the episode where they had mr. freeze and his deep relationship with his wife it made me feel very very bad that he couldn't bring back his wife but he so desperately wanted to and that was a main reason why I love the cartoon because it made us feel sorrow and pity for Victor freeze and it wasn't until probably I was 10 that when I saw Batman and mr. freeze that it made me cry because he was still trying to bring back his wife
I got chills too, you KNOW you did SOMETHING right when an animated character gives you emotional chills, especially if it's ironic due to obvious reasons :P
Batman: You've endangered lives all over the city. Nora would never have wanted this.

mister freeze is easily one of the most relatable villains in comics. seriously. one thing id like to point out is this: mister freeze is drawn like a super hero while batman is drawn like a villain. literally that's what the art says if you just look at it with no preconceptions. mr. freeze is all bright colors and circles, which for some reason are pleasing to the eye and are generally seen to be good (theres really no explanation for this other than human eyes like circles), while batman is all dark colors and black and his polygonous base shapes are triangles. which are "evil" (again, its just a human eye thing. think about it this way, if darth vader were made with circles instead of triangles, would he look nearly as evil or intimidating?)
Mr.Freeze's origin always makes me cry. I hope that some day he can be happy with Nora.
Freeze is a good man it's just he has had a hard life
I'll admit it, the ending made me cry. Thanks for the video.
I also would like to vote for videos of the origins of Black Mask I & II, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, Maxie Zeus, Lazara, Victor Zsasz.
In my opinion, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Portrayal of Freeze was pretty much the only saving grace to Batman and Robin!
Actually no.It was Michael Goph who played Alfred Pennyworth
Nope the ONLY saving grace for that movie was Alicia Silverstone in a form fitting rubber suit :)
xavierprotocols Nah,that didn't make me beat my meat.
That episode 'Hearts of Ice' won an Emmy.
Am I the only one who felt really bad about mr.freeze in batman beyond?
Believe me, you're the only one who cares
I remember liking Mr Freeze when I was younger. I'm not into the comic scene as much as manga, but lately I've been considering getting into it more by rewatching the Batman Animated Series from the 90s. A lot of my friends love the comic scene.
The Batman Beyond Episode with Mr Freeze being revived was the saddest Animated show I have ever seen.
Thank you for taking my request!
Mr freeze is the most depressing villian and hero ever
Mr. Freeze really isn't as bad as people think. All the poor man wants is his dear wife who he loves very much.
hes kind of like a dc doctor octopus
I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for saying this, but... here goes... I think Arnold Schwarzenegger had the potential to be a great Mister Freeze. I think he was a victim of bad direction and bad script writing. If he'd played Mister Freeze more like he played T-800, it could have been an awesome portrayal.
Agreed.
AngelKay7 Yeah. It wasn't his fault
AngelKay7 I agree I never I always I think the way the film was written was really to blame not Arnold Schwarzenegger who really just playing it the way it appeared in the script. If Mr Freeze was written as the awesome character we know him as he probably would have been better. no flaming here lol
They should have changed his name to dr.freeze because he is technically a doctor
MrRiddler6
I agree it sounds waaaaay cooler.
MrRiddler6 nah
Mr. Freeze will always be my favorite Batman character.
i kinda feel sorry for him
Yes, that one is the craziest one. It's weird that Thomas Wayne Jr is the Earth 3 universe of Bruce Wayne.
I actually feel kind of bad for him
So this guy is stuck between good and evil. (mostly evil.)
I'd say he's neutral, by which I mean he only does the bad things he does like say robbing banks in order to find a cure for his wife's disease.
I like the original backstory which was more tragic not the version where he was delusional
I like mr freeze and all, and I know he's like a supergenius, but making your suit to be powered by DIAMONDS? Why can't it run on like.....cooking oil or something?
That was Batman and Robin. That doesn't exist anymore. It never happened.
because Joel Schumacher's Gotham is powered by glowsticks and neon paint.
I think this is the most saddest
I want to play Mr. Freeze in the movies someday but I don't want his suit to be like Arnold Schwarzenegger's I want it almost like from the animated series but live action with CGI.
Why a CGI suit when we can make the Xenomorphs and the Iron Man suit mostly practical effects? Or are you suggesting that it be a similar method to how the Iron Man suit was done?
I loved the bulky suit. They just need to make it a bit more slim.
Simular to the Iron Man suit but different.
Ive always felt so bad for Mr.Freeze
What killed the dinosaurs?
THE ICE AGE!!!!!!!
What kill the ice age
Aids
***** A BAT CREDIT CARD!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I swear that Batman TAS episode nearly gets me teary eyed every time
At the beginning I felt sorry for him, but in Subzero he just started getting on my nerves.
"IMAGINE To never again walk on a summer's day with a hot wind on your face and a warm hand to hold: Ooooh yes, I would kill for that"
TheZombie13777 i love the idea of a warm hand but, a hot wind on my face. no
TheZombie13777
I am not moved. If people had the right to turn into psychopaths for that, then cancer patients and blinds should have already had a licence to kill.
marelicainavokado You do realize its not real? Right?
hey kenny h look up multiverse theory it isreal somewhere just not in this universe
Yes I agree this is very sad
You know, batman and mister freeze are kinda simillar...both of their motives are TECHNICALLY vengence(batman with joe chill,mr freeze with that....guy)but i think Mr Freeze lacks what baman has.....company!Bruce has had Alfred by his side telling him what's right and wrong all his life....Victor was alone!
TheKalluto I bet that Batman would have ended killing the villains if he didn´t had Alfred and Gordon.
TheKalluto Ferris Boyle you call him.
yeah all of batman's villains have character traits that are common with batman. thats why he has the best rogue gallery
Mr. Freeze was always my favorite Batman villain as a kid. I still love him.
Mr.Freeze isnt really a villian, he was just trying to bring his wife back to life like any normal person would, but got caught, authority didnt like what he was doing, so they tried to unplug her, and thats when he got mad and became a villian. Its not his fault, its athorities fault for making him mad.
***** cool :)
+Kinina Descheuquette No wonder why many people turn evil. They get mad after feeling rejected.
Such a sad story give this man a hug a very warm hug
LETS KICK SOME ICE!
Deep down inside I could cry, despite the crimes he committed are dark he just wants to find an cure for his beautiful dying wife, respect to you Mr Freeze I would do the same thing😢😥😟
anyone watch Gotham Tonight? I think Mr. Freeze shows up
+Douglas Brown thats why im here, and yes he did
"What killed the dinosaurs?... THE ICE AGE!"
What are you talking about? He did exact same thing in BTAS-TNBA. Do you think Freeze stopped being villain? No.
Always been my favorite DC villain.
I have always considered Mr. Freeze to be among my favorite Batman villains. However, I would have not used the character in a live-action Batman movie from the 90s as Mr. Freeze started to gain popularity shortly after his debut on Batman: The Animated Series and later on in the comics.
It really says something when a Saturday Morning Cartoon can deliver the most accurate and beloved portrayal of Mr. Freeze that TV Shows and Movies.
had the animated series as a child, so Mr. Freeze has always been a favorite of mine :3 I enjoyed getting this history lesson about him. Thanks Mojo!
Cop: Freeze
Mr.Freeze: That's Mr. Freeze to you.
Fun fact!: He originally got the name Mr. Freeze in the Adam West Batman show. When the show ended Mr. Zero name was changed to Mr. Freeze in Detective Comics #373. They even have Robin mention that the name sounded like something from a campy action show.
I always think freeze could reform and become a hero
"how can you treat people like this"
"its the way they've always tretated me"
that is relatable
I really really wanted Nolan to bring a realistic interpretation of Mr. Freeze in Dark Knight Rises. Sigh, it wasn't meant to be :(
On my seventh birthday, my parents gave me a present.
Cool video. Mr.Freeze is an interesting villian/Anti-Hero.
Mr. Freeze is awesome! The saddest but also one of my favorite if not my favorite villain of all the Batman Villains!
