    Thanks for the vid. I've been using the G6 for about 5 months now. Love it. Definitely a life changer. However, the app wasn't compatible with my phone for a while (I have a Samsung Galaxy S20+), until recently. So I've been using my phone app for the last 2 days. Seems to be working great. I was just wondering if the app and receiver conflict with each other at all.

    Maddie, thank you for all the info. I am about to start my third Dexcom G6 sensor change. I am dreading it! The initial one with my Diabetic Educator backed up by two or three Dexcom techs from support was a train wreck. Nine days ago I attempted the second by following online instructions on how to use both the receiver and smartphone simultaneously. Again, I utilized Dexcom support over the course of 6 hrs throughout the night and expended my two remaining sensors without success. Dexcom ended up telling me I can’t use both at the same time. Their guide says otherwise. Medicare requires me to utilize the receiver or lose my coverage. You repeatedly state in your video (as do others) it can be done. I would appreciate having both available. An instructional video on setting up both would be a great help. Dexcom support did not offer a solution. They did willingly send two replacement sensors. As a result of these sensor change issues I have stored the receiver and am using the smartphone. Thank you in advance.

    Hi Maddie,
    First question, can you use the clarity app without using the Dexcom app? As you stated, they are tough on battery life.
    Second, is there a way to link the app after you have had a sensor started for a couple days?
    Thanks for all the info….subbed!

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  2 роки тому

      I have never tried using just the clarity app without the Dexcom app. I am not sure if that would work as I know you have to have a Dexcom account in order to have a clarity account. I also think you would need to have a Dexcom account in order to link any sensor to clarity. I hope this helps answer your questions. Thank you for subscribing.

    Our 6 year old grandson is just now switching to the G6. We are trying to work thru the most effective way to remotely monitor him while he is in school. I believe we would still need an uploader device in addition to his pump to be within 5’ of his pump correct ? I believe the dexcom app allows up to 10 authorized people to monitor.
    Do we know yet whether the Omni 5 when paired worth the G7 will allow remote monitoring without the use of an uploaded near him ?
    Thanks very much !

    I just got mine a couple weeks ago. I actually use both receiver and my phone. I leave my receiver next to my bed for night time. It just restarts every night. By day I use my phone app and it works ok this way so far. I have to turn off the bluetooth on my phone at night but I recharge my phone in another room at night so it works ok.

    Can you use the phone and receiver at the same time? Also how do you set up the receiver if you’ve already started your sensor with your phone? (I threw the code away)

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 роки тому +4

      Hi Lily!! You can indeed use both the phone and the receiver at the same time!! If you decide to later use the receiver in the middle of an ongoing session, all you need to do is power on the receiver and allow it to Bluetooth connect with the transmitter and it will automatically connect to your current session; no need to worry about the code!! As long as you have at least one active session on either device, you can add the second receiving device (whether it is a phone or the actual receiver) at anytime!! :)

    Hello can you activate a new sensor/transmitter setup on your phone and then simultaneously monitor on the receiver, Thanks!!

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 роки тому +5

      You can use both the phone and the receiver at the same time. The new transmitter serial number must be plugged into both the receiver and the phone at the same time when changing out transmitters. G6 transmitters last about 90 days or about 3 months. Then you can choose to use one or the other or both forms of receiving the Dexcom G6 data. If you shut off your receiver in the middle of a session, you can power the receiver back on and it will automatically reconnect where you left off. No need to worry about losing your data or having a sensor session stop on your just your smartphone if you chose to intermittently use the receiver. Hope this helps you out! :)

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 роки тому

      I have not personally tried this out yet, but my assumption is that you are correct. Do not disturb refers to all alerts. Except for an urgent low blood sugar. You cannot silence that. Or if you phone is on silent or do not disturb, it will still alarm!

    Hi. thanks for a great video! I had a question. Does the receiver catch up on all the readings after you are out of range? So, if I only take my phone for work and later come back into the receiver's range, will I "lose" some readings in the receiver. Also, how do I get the phone g6 app to connect with the clarity software?

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 роки тому +1

      The receiver will pick up readings from the past couple of hours if you are separated from it for a long time. As far as the clarity software, you use your dexcom account to log in. The clarity software is available via the app and directly connects to the G6. I am glad this video was helpful for you!! :)

    How difficult is the g6 to setup? Also are there any more flaws with the g6 compared to the g5?

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 роки тому +1

      The Dexcom G6 is very simple to set up. There are specific directions that come with your G6 materials. If you are unsure of how to to use the G6 or set it up for the first time, you could always call Dexcom customer service or the Dexcom Care Program and they will guide you through the process. You could also get trained on how to use it by a RN/CDE like I did. As far as flaws, I do think the G6 has a lot of great components compared to the G5. However, sometimes the G6 can give faulty readings in which you would have to calibrate the sensor.

    A couple questions:
    1) Does a smartphone alert you on highs and lows just like the receiver? Does the app allow functionality to surpass do not disturb mode to alert even when do not disturb is on?

  • @ElectedOfficial1

    The receiver for the dexcom 6 doesn’t give you the option of putting in fast acting insulin vs slow acting insulin. The iPhone does! I can’t see how medical pros would differentiate that when you inject low amounts of both. And I split my long acting insulin into twice a day so unless I give them the exact time that I take the long acting vs the fast acting as in all the other times, maybe they’ll know? I don’t know why that option isn’t in the receiver.

  • @jeffnordin108
    @jeffnordin108 4 роки тому +2

    I'm switching to receiver only for one main reason: Android compatibility.
    I'm an Android guy, not iPhone guy and I usually buy all the newest phones and of course update my existing phone when new updates roll out: this sometimes disables certain dexcom features!
    So I HAVE to carry an older, non updated Android phone to use as receiver because it's long approved to be compatible with G6.
    I'd be okay carrying two phones ( a new Android for phone and an old Android as receiver) but it gets worse: because you can tinker with all Android alarms and stuff, I've noticed that one of my PHONE privacy settings or PHONE alert settings effectively cancels all my DEXCOM ALARMS as well!
    Dude, screw that! So I just woke up shaking bc my phone/receiver was on Do Not Disturb?
    Hey, I wanted to avoid spam email alerts at 3 am, not my impending hypoglycemia!
    So in my case, if I have to carry two devices, might as well get the phone I want plus a receiver that actually works!
    And no, still no Apple for me. I've talked too much shit about it to go back to that same tired interface now...😔

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 роки тому

      The receiver works very well. I find it nice at night because it isn’t so harsh on the eyes as a phone. You also can just push a single button to check your blood sugar anytime. I am sorry you were having difficulties with compatibilities.

    • @jeffnordin108
      @jeffnordin108 4 роки тому

      Thanks Maddie, unfortunately I'm now seeing the limitations of receiver: no history to pull up!
      I enter these units of insulin and carbs, but your can't actually ACCESS that info, so I don't remember my insulin on board and how much residual is there.
      Guess I might need to start the pump again just to keep track of all this stuff..
      Of well, diabetes problems...

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 роки тому

They only have 5 compatible Android phones that work. What an embarrassment for this company. Looks like I should have researched them more closely and read the reviews. So I got everything started. After 2 hrs it was reading 160. I compared to my finger stick and my sugars were actually 81. I would have killed myself taking the sliding scale insulin had I went off their device only. Now I'm really questioning how accurate this is. Am I going to have to stick my fingers everyday for comparations? What's the point of having this. Anyone else have this problem or is there a breaking in phase for it to be accurate. Very dangerous because ppl could die from their wrong readings like I would have. BTW, I waited 25 min and re-took my finger stick, it was still at 81. There's dropped from 160 to 135. Wayyyy off

    the one thing I have an issue with and I complained to Dexcom and I hope anyone who sees this does also... They are not up on having newer compatible phones. The iPhone they have compatible is older. The droid is the Note9 and the Note10 has been out since August 2019. The A10e is out in August last year and they have the A7. Nowadays people do not want to shop for old technology. I asked about some of the phones they have on their site and Verizon response: We don't make those anymore lol... I just put this on my daughter yesterday, after having it for more then a year and I can't even know her readings at school unless I have her take her Note9, I'm, to school. Shop a phone and it's too new for their app.. Would love more voices on this, so they can up their game, on updating their app when new devices come out, or just make the monitor have it's own WiFi.. The phone doesn’t seem to give warning sounds but the receiver does. I have the sound on but I wonder why that is? The phone shows up on my lock screen as I have it in that setting. Maybe I have to choose one or the other? Since I always have both of them I’ll keep the receiver as the beeper. I love all of the choices that are on the phone. The receiver gives you an option for insulin intake but it doesn’t say fast or slow acting like the phone does. I just put both in when I take them and hope that a doctor would know about the higher amount as the long acting in a lower amount is the fast acting insulin. The phone differentiates. The phone is much better at giving readings. I will download the clarity App now that I understand it and the difference. It’s just a read out.

    Suggest you take a Public Speaking class. Slow down your speaking & your hand waving.

    Im not sure if you will read this or not but you might want to re do this video.... it has such great information but your tone of voice is horrible.... re watch your video and tell me it doesnt seem like you are being forced to read a long list. thats what it sounds like.

      Hi Harvey! I can definitely agree with you that the audio quality of this video is very poor. However, this is back when my channel was fairly new and I was learning the in’s and out’s of videography! I will continue to keep this video up!
