Pro tip... When removing my dexcom I soak the area, the overpatch etc. with 90% isopropyl Alcohol give it a few minutes and you'll take off the unit WAY faster.
Cleaning and prepping the area itself BEFORE insertion i.e I take a paper towel soaked with alcohol and I clean that whole area very well, give it 15 minutes or so to dry off. THEN insertion... the adhesive bonds extremely well. Never tore one off yet.

False alarms, scattered data, sensor alerts, user error (according to my supplier) replaced sensor with 140 hrs left. You are spot on about the time of installation and stomach location (better for me there as I tend to use my arms). Also the first 24 hrs is crazy with a new G7. So used to the smooth graphs with G6. Anyway thank you for clarification and confirmation it is much appreciated.

yep. Im getting rid of the G7 asap. I want a CGM that is easy to use and is accurate. I love the G6. The G7 = POS. For example, the G7 is usually 30-50 points off from my meter. I try to recalib. to correct it??? It is 50/50 that it even allows my recalib. It often "discards" my meter reading. Nice. Thanks.

Great information you gave us here. I LOVED using the G6 where I rarely had any issues at all. Now that I am on the G7, I also love the information it gives and convenience. Only real issues I've had is with adhesion. I've used the skin tac and overlay patch and have still managed to knock off the G7 when placed on my upper arms. They also don't seem to like me being in the pool or jacuzzi much either. lol I will try placing them on the abdomen so thank you for that testimony of your experiment. I never really had a G6 come off there so looking forward to trying the G7 in that placement as well.

I would suggest using an additional clear waterproof adhesive patch that covers the entire unit. Just be careful when removing it after your time in the water.

    I like your vlog.
I am five days into my second G7 Sensor. I have used Dexcom since the G4. I also tried and hated a Medtronic CGM. I have used Medtronic and then Tandem pumps since 2001. Tandem is much better than my four Medtronics. I have been a T1D since January 4, 1980, but who is counting.
    Complaints:
    1) The sensor often loses the connection with my Tandem X2. This is especially prone to happen when I walk outside. The connection with the Dexcom G7 app is more durable than the connection with the t:connect app on my phone.
    2) The sensor is prone to falling off. The first sensor fell off when I came out of the shower on the morning of my tenth day. Today I had to apply tape to prevent the sensor from falling off.
    3) With my first sensor, I had false lows. This has not been a problem with the second sensor.
What I like: The sensor is the transmitter. This is a BIG advantage over earlier Tandem CGMs.

For me, the G6 stuck fine and the G7 does not. The best thing about G7 is the smaller size. Otherwise, for me, it's pretty much the same as G6. One thing you didn't address is calibration. Many people say little to no calibration is needed w G7. I have found this NOT to be true. Ont the first day I have to calibrate several times and twice a day thereafter . Again, I appreciate your videos.

After multiple knock offs on my arm with G6 and have always worn it on the side of my thigh. Same for a couple years with good accuracy compared to blood samples. I had severe rash from the glue and used skin tac ordered from Amazon and a large size hydro seal bandaid also on Amazon.
Just now trying G7 finally available in Canada and will try on my thigh with same rituals as above as I’m paranoid of the glue. so far so good with accuracy. I like the thigh as very discreet in even shorts and bathing suit. I have never knocked one off.
I really like that it Bluetooth’s with the Apple Watch rather than dragging around my phone close by. Big selling feature

I have had problems with the G7 staying stuck on the back of my arm and never with the G6 on my stomach. I've also noticed the weird sudden jumps. The warning doesn't warn me of these drastic changes. Sometimes the changes are more than 20 units.
As a patient that takes Mounjaro injections, I have lost over 80 pounds. That's great but as an 71 year old that leaves a lot of loose skin on my arms limiting the places that I can place the sensor. I have also heard that Dexcom will only replace for free a defective sensor 4 times per year. They also want to know where you place the sensor. I'm afraid to tell them that I have placed it anywhere other than the back of my arm.
I am a medicare patient. That means that my supplier will only send me supplies every 93 days. They send me 9 units that last for 90 days. Medicare expects you to use the extra 12 hours as part of your use time to make up the extra 3 days. I am at 96% intime in range and 79% in time in tight range (70-140). CGM does work. I also have a Garmin vivoactive 4 watch to help.

Have you tried using over patches for your sensor? Skin Grip makes fantastic over patches in both plastic and fabric versions. The plastic ones are like the dressings that hospitals use to hold gauze in place and are better suited for use during colder months. The fabric ones are like the waterproof fabric bandaids that you see in stores and are better suited for use during hotter months due to the fact that they’re breathable. The moisture just evaporates instead of being trapped like it is with a plastic over patch. I couldn’t keep my sensor and pump on if I didn’t use fabric over patches because I work in a warehouse with crappy AC.

Thank you for this review - very useful - I have been wearing a G7 on my abdomen for about 7 days - seems to work really well and has remained attached really well with the supplied over patch. This is my first time wearing a CGM and I am very happy to have so much data at my go fingertips. The only downside is that I have had to recalibrate the sensor every day with a finger prick. Nothing major but something to keep an eye on. Maybe it is just this sensor. I will be sticking with my G7.

sorry, couldnt not disagree more. My G6 was GREAT. Very accurate. Very responsive. Very good. My G7?? 100% POS. I feel lucky if it is close to 30 pts near my meter. Usually it skips around. 30, 80, 120, 150 and as much as 190 pts above or below my actual meter reading. That is a "8.1 MARD"??? No. That is garbage. Im not even mentioning all the other issues with the G7 and its odd way of doing (or not) things. All the issues with how their tech. support tells you "that info. is on our website" - WHEN IT IS NOT. I argued with one of their Pakistani reps about this. He refused to believe me. So be it. Dexcom is evidently trying to be worse than Medtronics tech support. Theres a "goal' to shoot for. Sure. I will be returning to the G6. That worked. G7??? POS.

I have been using the G7 for about four months. Overall I am happy with it and think it is an improvement over the G6 that I used earlier. I am OK with having it on my arm, better than on my stomach for the G6. Haven't had it come off or knock it off. I really like the 12 hour overlap time when it expires. I install the new sensor but don't activate it until the 12 hour period is over. I think that helps with the accuracy.
The issues I have are it tends to read high after activating a G7, so I always do a calibration or two with a finger stick. The issue is I get the signal loss a lot. I am good about keeping my phone with me, but it still happens. For example, if my phone is in my left pocket and the sensor is on my right arm, I will get signal loss.
I wish the G7 could communicate directly with my Apple Watch. While I try to keep my phone near me, I am always wearing my apple watch. That would be a nice improvement.

I have noted most of the same problems as Christel experience sudden lows and then sharp increases. I wear my G7 on my stomach and it appears to work as well as did the G6. Like Christel, all too often , I receive alerts that the sensor is not connected, even when the sensor is located within inches of my smart phone. Also, after applying a new sensor, I either get a very low reading, which does not correspond to a finger prick reading, or within hours of installing the new sensor, I will get a very low reading. Can't calibrate during the first 24 hours. Usually I wait 24 hours after installing a sensor and after a 12 hour fast to check it against a finger prick, and then calibrate, if necessary, which is usually necessary.

@@DiabetesStrongI have been using the G7 for 6 months. I have seen the very same issues as you all. Not infrequently after about 2 to 4 hours the values plummet. The first hours are excellent. I also wait to calibrate post 18 or so hours unless the alarm’s are annoying. I see the choppy data too. Especially during the day. Since I worked in diagnostic’s and have seen this technology I am not surprised by the signal loss. Since it’s a 10 day throw away sending the battery isn’t as large or strong. Besides all that I love the G7. I love the added features, the accuracy when settled in etc. The watch with it is perfect for a seasoned diabetic.

I've been on the 7 for 8 weeks now. Luckily my insurance does cover it. I had been switching between my arms then the craziest situation came up.
On the Sunday before July 4th one of our cats playfully nipped on the hand between the thumb and forefinger. It just drew a little blood but I thought nothing of it. I cleaned it with beta iodine and went my way.
The Thursday after the 4th I had to be rushed to the local ER with a terrible case of cellulitis on my right leg from my ankle to above my right knee, high temperature, and very weak. I had an infection* I caught from the cat. I spent 8 days in ICU.
The infection also attacked my right knee replacement. My orthopedic surgeon had to draw off 36cc's of fluid off my knee on that Sunday. The next day, the 10th, the doctor had to go in and clean up the area, remove the "plastics" around the appliance, cut out bone, muscle and tendon and staple me back up.
The next day a PICC line was put into my right arm and I've been living with it since. I don't know how much longer I'll have to wear it. Since I was wearing the G7 on my left arm when I went to the hospital, I had to remove it when I went in for the MRI.
I waited until I got home to insert a new sensor but didn't want to use my left arm again so I went to my stomach...I have had absolutely no problems with that placement.

Well I made it through 10 days on my last sensor. The new one I installed late yesterday warmed up and presented a BG that was about 50 mg/dL under what my meter told me. Hours later it was not showing any numbers, just - - -. Made sure the pump (receiver) was close to the sensor and went to sleep. This morning I awaken to find the red circle with a white X and a message that the sensor failed at 1:57am. One out of the last three has worked the full 10 days.

you forgot to mention that the G7 has a built in transmitter (or at least from other videos about the G7 I have seen), so you don't have to replace your transmitter every three months like you do with the G6. Also since the G7 has a longer time range of your previous blood sugars than the G6 does you do not actually need the Clarity app like you do with the G6.

My biggest ask is that they come up with readings every minute instead of every 5 mins.
There is a lag and I’ve had cases where my g7 is reading 70 while blood stick is 53. Not good. I feel minute updates would help the critical times when your bgs are changing rapidly.
Also, I wear mine on the lower back upper buttock region. I don’t like the arm and don’t like it on my abdomen. I know it’s not approved, but it works and is reliable. I found that fabric over tapes work well with my G6 when in a hot environment. I’ve also found that the over tape can be changed without removing the sensor. When changing the over tape, I peel the inner edge away from the sensor’s original adhesive all the way around and, once the two are separated, I can peel the over tape away from my skin easily by trapping the fabric between my index and middle finger, using my thumb to pin my skin down while I use my index and middle fingers to lift the tape. I go all the way around the over tape with this method and then it’s just a matter of slapping another tape on.

I could probably get more days out of the tapes during the hotter months if I didn’t work in a warehouse with crappy AC though.

I started with the libre 3, liked the small size, and the range, but the lack of Apple Heath support and no Apple Watch app was a non-starter for me. I ended up pulling it out my arm after only wearing it 12 hours. The first G7 I didn’t have much of an issue with, however I found it alittle less reliable compared to the Libre when it came to readings. However after a little calibration it was fine. I’m now on my 2nd sensor, which I placed higher on my arm, to conceal it better and its been horrible. Readings all over the place, getting compressed readings. I have checked my BS so much that all my fingers hurt. I really don’t like placing the sensor on my upper arm, I have a thinner build, so the sensor is going into muscle mostly. Would I be ok placing it on the stomach? I know you talk about in this video, but what do the readings look like? Are they even less reliable?

I just got the G7 and found your review. Great job. Regarding low readings, I have found with my G6 that when the signal from the sensor is diminished/partially blocked but not completely blocked (giving the signal loss alert), the readings would plummet. I was experimenting with placement and when it was on my stomach with crossed arms or on the back of my arm pressed up against the recliner, with partial contact in both cases, the readings would go low quickly. I found that placement where there was no sensor contact with anything other that clothing eliminated the problem.

Loss of signal with phone and watch are frequent. Even with phone next to me. The reader that comes with it works much better. No way signal goes 20 feet in my experience. Asked for a password to use the silent feature. Frequently reads different from finger stick. Sorry I switched from my last continuous blood glucose monitor it worked much better. Pros are it is small, stays on and is very easy to apply. Just wish it worked better with watch and phone and was more accurate.

Between the 6 and 7, G7 is much more accurate as a rule. BUT, of the last 3 sensors, 1 lasted only 4- 5 days and a message told me to replace. Then, the next sensor didn't attach to my arm. And today, I expect there will be a problem with the one just installed because the (secondary w/green tabs) adhesive did not adhere properly. The G6 was never accurate, results 50 or more points off when I compared to my meters! I have little subcutaneous fat and I know that is a factor. The 7 sometimes needs calibration if more than 25 points off,, but usually they are within 10 points of the meters and if I am within 10 or 15 points I consider it accurate. But a lot of defective sensors. I was definitely doing better with the Accu-Chek drums (easy no strips to handle) but this and the Bayer cartridge were discontinued! I tried POGO and that was a joke, a lot of blood and it never worked. I am hoping the meter that is being developed in Israel will be perfected; I believe it uses lasers like those non-invasive thermometer but as far as I know they are not accurate at this time. FRUSTRATED that I had better options 6 years ago until they took the aforementioned Accu-Chek off the market. But when the 7 works and doesn't need constant calibration it isn't too bad.

I'm new to CGMs. I have a question. Does the little needle get dissolved by the body? Iss it supposed to come out, intact when the cgm is removed? One my first one it was wildly off. The first night I was getting low /very low alarms all night. After I finally silenced everything I got to sleep. The next day I compared thebg7 reading to a one touch and the g7 was wildly off. I took it off, which was a chore. Two weeks later the insertion site is still unhealed. Is that needle still embedded? The second one was inadvertently ripped off, much like yours was. That needed is still embedded too, apparently. My third one is still on and will expire later this week. The overpatch is awful! It's way too flimsy and it tends to get small ridges where it sticks to itself and really difficult to get centered. A cool "trick" I found a BandAid bandage 1"x1½" pad (it might be larger] and total length abt 5" does an excellent job of keeping the g7 in place. Since that first one I've found the accuracy pretty v good, +/- 2-3 pts from a one touch. I am very impressed with the Clarity portion of the display and stand alone reporting system. I can produce a report print it out and present to my Dr...awesome! Great video, thank you!

But then the end time changes and sometimes to middle of the night if I am trying to use the 12 grace period. Not a big deal. Took awhile to find correct placement on my arm. I was getting too many compressions lows. I have learned to be patient when G7 says blood sugar going high rapidly. Today said 169 and rising rapidly. I waited a few minutes and it settled on 123. Annoying. Also if you don’t use an over patch it will fall off. With G6 I just used liquid SkinTac but this area is too small I think. I was using the FSL for awhile and their adhesive was just fine on its own. Not SkinTac and no over patch. A tech at dexcom said they were working on it but probably G6 first. I like the size and warm up. Accuracy is good after first day. And I only use the high alarm and the very low is automatic. Mostly at night when sleeping

I finally figured out why. Before I started using the meter, I was never aware of the low readings and they balanced out the higher readings. But now the alarm wakes me up several times a week with readings below 60 and at first it scared me and I would have juice or half a banana and my blood sugar would come back up. I now wait for a period of time before doing anything. Sometimes it comes back up on its own an sometimes it needs help. I sure wish there was something I could eat that would bring my sugar down as quickly.

Have you tried the forearm yet. It was my favorite place with my g6 do to sports and work. I haven’t seen anyone try it yet and I am being switched to the g7 in Jan. I always rip sensors out the approved sites for the g7

    Thx -
    Regarding alerts:
I'm not using the G7, but I actually unsoldered the beeper of my pump controller so it won't bother me so loudly any more - vibration is sufficient for me, and that does not wake up the whole house during the night.
I hope one day, we will be able to build and fully configure our own pumps - the problem is with dexcom not publishing their communication standards, so we cannot easily write our own software to take in the data in realtime and make therapy decisions on this.
Legislators: if you read this, please make it possible for patients to read the encrypted data. There are ways to do this in a privacy preserving manner.

Something came to my attention a week ago that I thought might be helpful to others. I had placed an overlay patch on with the G6, and then that started fraying, so I thought, "Why don't I put a second overlay patch on?" That was a huge mistake: the weight of the second overlay patch on top of the first one pulled off the sensor. So for me, I'll only put one overlay patch on. Two patches had the opposite effect: pulling off the sensor instead of keeping it on.

I have worn the G7 since April, my very first sensor fell off within a couple hours. I'm a very hot natured person so I use the overlay patch that comes with the sensor and also a bandage type overlay patch to prevent them from coming off. Last month I was going out my niece's door and hit the frame and ripped out my G7 that I hadn't had on for 24 hours yet. I've also had another one come off within an hour of placement after loading the dishwasher. Dexcom replaced that one and asked if I was wearing it on my dominant arm which I was not and asked what I was doing when it came off. I've had one sensor that lost signal quite a few times and it asked me to put the receiver on the side of my body the G7 was on when I did that it got the signal back. Even after all my issues I still love the G7.

Notice with signal loss I get with any CGM is in Walmart’s or other stores, every time I go to a Walmart I won’t have a reading says signal lost.. feel bad for the people that use these that work at Walmart ..

This was my first 10 days and I noticed a lot of highs which is not normal for me. When I would use my glucose meter, the Dexcom G7 readings were off anywhere from 20 to 50 mg/dL. Since it was my first time using it, I wanted to give it a chance, besides, I probably put it in the wrong spot. :) So I just replaced the sensor and now it's reading what I normally have. Will have to give it a few more weeks to really determine if I like it or not but so far, no complaints.

I use the InPen from Medtronic with the Medtronic Guardian 4 sensor (soon Simplera). You mentionned that the Medtronic InPen communicates with the Dexcom G7. How does this happen? You keep the App of the InPen toghether with the App of Dexcom G7 ? I am wondering as I travel a lot and the warming up of the G7 is very interesting.

It connects through the Apple Health app. So it's not real-time like it is with the Medtronic sensor

The G7 is a PROBLEM. MARD of 8.1??? How can you tell?? I feel lucky if my G7 is within 30 pts of my meter reading. Ive been using the G7 since 10/23 when I gave up my G6 for the "better" G7. No. It isnt. It is a POS. Can you calibrate the G7?? Maybe. It is about 50/50. The G7 often rejects my calib. attempt. Why?? No reason given. Yesterday the G7 was higher than my meter by 70 points. Tried 7 times, over 40 minutes, to recalibrate it. It rejected 5 and the other two did not change the G7 reading at all. Maybe it doesnt like the FACT that it is inaccurate. The G7 is "out of range" 90% of the time. I am often within 18 inches of the phone and the sensor is still out of range. BS. Does the G7 work with the INPEN??? Nope. Not. At. All. Does the G7 work anywhere?? Nope. "Only on your upper arm" say the Dexcom tech. support. They told me this is stated on their website. No. It is not. Watch the sensor before you put it on. Ive had 2 sensors that had the needle OUTSIDE of the proper injection location. Both did NOT work. Do you use the sensor tape thing they give you?? Another POS failure. What they DO NOT tell you is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove. After removing it, I picked up the 47 little pieces of sticky stuff and threw them away. I wanted to toss the G7, too. Their sensor sticky things are like using wet tissue paper. When you try to remove it, it simple tears apart. You remove it tiny piece by tiny piece. Of course, you scratch your arm red with these 125 attempts to tear the fkg thing off. Utter BS. Often, the G7 will go from 130 to 190 to 250 to 320 in less than an hour. I check my meter and BG is 220. WTF?? No idea. G7 usually rejects a recalib. during these temporary insanity periods. There are SO MANY more issues with this POS G7. I am done. Going back to the G6. G7 = worthless POS that Dexcom refuses to fix.

great video, your review of the 8 take aways covered the questions i had. transitioning from G6 to G7 now and am somewhat apprehensive as i know/am used to the G6 operations and quirks. sounds like many similarities with G7 with the added improved features. do have a couple G6 sensors to retreat if needed, but after seeing your video i am ready to take the plunge 🙂thank you!

The CGM measure glucose in fluid between cell, not in blood, and certainly it does not make the "finger sticking" obsolete. I am a long time diabetic, and I can guess with acceptable accuracy my sugar levels. I use the finger sticking when the CGM gives me too low or too high numbers with no reasons. The loss of signal is mostly due when the phone is out of range. The transmitter is not meant for intergalactic communications, but only for 20 feet!

Thanks for the video. Your work is always most informative. I have never had a temporary signal loss after a couple of months of wearing the G7. However, I've had two sensors fail the day before they were scheduled to expire. Dexcom readily replaced the sensors. I too once put a sensor on the side of the arm and it was a painful insertion and caused much more bleeding than I ever had in the years of wearing the G6 on my abdomen or chest. I once put a G7 sensor on my abdomen and when I lay on it, i experienced pain. I had to sleep on my other side. This never happened with a G6. I wonder of the inserted filament is stiffer or harder than the G6 filament. I plan to place future G7 sensors in the underside of the upper arms or in my abdomen on the side i do not usually sleep on.

It's likely that the sensor probe flexes better in one direction than another. You might try rotating the sensor based on how your skin flexes when you move.

I’ve actually had similar experiences with the G6. Once, it hurt like heck & bled some when I inserted it. Also, occasionally (not often), I can feel the wire under the transmitter. I hope these things won’t happen more with the G 7!
