Do you agree, libre sensors have better patches for sticking compared to dexcom sensors. As well Libra sensors last longer than next time sensors. So I will give a deliberate a better by than the text calm. So do agree

Been a type 1 since I was 15 months old. I’ve now had it for 39 years. I’ve never had a CGM before because of the cost. Thankfully my insurance started to cover CGMs, and my doc prescribed the G7. Holy crap, what a difference it makes in daily life. I’m having a lot more lows for this first week of wearing my G7, but I sure like being able to get a reading every second I want. My fingers are worn out from 4 decades of lancets tearing holes. This is already helping with healing my fingers. Get yourselves a CGM, my fellow types 1s. It makes a huge difference

@@anders113 I haven't had any allergic reactions to the adhesive. The sensor doesn't stay on by itself for the 10 days. I have to use the provided over patch. The Libre 2 never came off and I didn't need an over patch. I usually can go around 5 days before I have to apply the over patch.

Been a type 1 diabetic for 27 years. Was using Lantus and Humalog for what feels like forever. I was able to keep my A1C at 7.1 or below, so I didn't bother with anything new. However, I am in my first month of using the G6, and am completely amazed at how much work and worry it cuts out of my life compared to finger pokes. Later this month I'm going to go start the pump that is able to communicate with the CGM. I'm excited. Love your videos

Now considering to move to using the Dexcom G7 and maybe even switch to the omnipod pump. Although not keen about having something physically attached to me all the time but I'm starting to understand the pros might far outweigh the cons.

I don't have the Dexcom 7 yet but according to the video, Yes. You attach a new sensor while the old one is still on. (Tom attached the new one to his other/opposite arm.) While the new sensor is warming up , the old one is still receiving readings (and will for up to 12 hours past the ten day period). This is possible because of the automatic countdown that happens when you insert a new sensor.
    Hope this helps.🙂

I can’t wait to get the G7 I’m calling my doctor on Monday because it released here on the 17th in the US. It is also so much cheaper than the G6 even with coupons. My G6 was running $180 a month and for that price, I can get three months of the G7. If they come three to a box like the G6.

Kevin Sayer did comment, about a year or so ago, that having a G7 sensor last to 14 days, in trials, was just not working. 12 days was the maximum, most of the time, but not enough to even put them out at that. I believe it was left that they're hoping to possibly get the G7s to 14 days, some day, but there's been no more put out about that.

It would be great if the sensors didn't keep failing. The last 4 out of 5 sensors have failed. 1 didn't even start the next few lasted a few hours and I have had a couple that tasted a few days and failed. I'm really tired of arguing with dexcom about this issue.

Watched this review before moving to the G7 - it was useful. BUT, I've been using the G7 for a few months now and I would tell every diabetic NOT to use the G7. It's terrible. Loses connectivity daily, rips out easily, overtape is useless. I get the full 10 day wear maybe 60% of the time. That means that for the other 40%, I have to go through the annoying process that Dexcom set up to get a replacement sent. They seem to have made it harder to get a replacement to cut down on the number they have to send. It's even hard to find technical support number anymore (not in the app or online...I had to google it). Makes sense, I guess, as I've talked to many, many diabetics who all do not like the G7. If you're on the G6, trust me, stay with it for at least a year until they iron out the many, many problems. Yes, the G7 is smaller, but that is the ONLY thing that is better or even as good as the G6.

☺Thank you. As always, you answer my questions well and anticipate others before I ask. Recently, I've experienced the anomaly between the G6, my phone and my pump. I usually have it at 2-3 days before its expiration. I only use finger sticks for the first 6 hours after installation. It causes me to calibrate.
The adhesive seems to be an issue across devises. Over patches are essential with my X2 as well. Please keep up the good work.

New to CGM. Having to rely on a company app, n keep my mob close, is worrying. Sensor has failed sev times, then speaking to customer support, is exhausting. Feel that im contantly being ruled by the app, even my G7 sensor delivery, sent to a different town, causing extra anxiety...we should be able to get hold of supplies easyily, not wait for hours trying to get companies, to help. Not comfortable at all with this system😢

I just got the G7 and put it in. I did notice it was way off for the first day or so. I looked it up and it said I can take a bs reading and calibrate it. Now it seems to be a lot closer. I didn't see in the instructions that I had to hold down the sensor for 10 seconds when applying. I should have watched your startup video. Maybe that's why it didn't work so well the first day or so? I personally always use a cover on mine. I found a great brand and I don't knock it off as much anymore. lol I just ordered the one for the g7, as I was using the g6 one for my Libre 2 because of the bigger patch. Thanks as always for your excellent help!

    I have g7.
    My experience is disappointing.
1st g7 stopped after 3 days, 2nd after 6 days, 3rd had over the chart readings all the time high and low, 4th even after multiple calibration, 5th reading are erratic and i have to use strips multiple time a day to be sure, not even talk about anxiety this all caused. And the price!
So i start with libre 3 this weak.
    I got a month supply g7 for $185, libre 3 a month for 77.55 , huge difference.

Deal breakers for me is that G7 sensors are not 14 days and have no restarts like the G6, which I routinely get 20 days on a sensor. I am also waiting for the direct to iWatch as I don't like to be tied to a big phone or using the smaller receiver as it is just another thing to carry when I already have an iWatch. I hear they are "working" on these thing but I've heard it before so I am happy with G6 until it happens or wait until Freestyle Libre 3 offers direct to iWatch.

  • @mhfnet

I don't know. Not having at least a 14 day or longer sensor because I suspect restart are a thing of the past along with high prices is not going to be good for people wanting to change from the G6. Add to that no direct to iWatch and it is a non-starter for me. Sure it's integrated and the app is better but I had no major problems with that on the G6 other than alarms were a little annoying at times. I can also apply a G6 sensor 12 hours in advance to the old one dying and so other than the 2 hour wait time I get excellent reading from the start. Add to that the problems with the adhesive and terrible overlay on the G7 and I am in no hurry to change from the G6.

I use my extra over patches supplied by Dexcom for the G6 and it almost covers the whole G7 patch as it is oval shape. They still do not have any over patches you can get from them.

Completely agree, WE the people should get more possibilities to customize the functions on all of those devices. It’s so easy to implement smart and useful functionalities from a technical point of view but we are still being given only the rudiments. For example the Freestyle Libre still has no secondary alarm, WTF Abbott, how hard can it be? It’s only a stupid alarm function. They figured out the technical side of things in the 60s if not earlier.
I guess the magic word here is competition vs. monopoly. As long as there is too little competition, we won’t see real improvement, which is so sad. Once again it goes to show that those companies are all about quick money, not about longterm medical progress for us patients.

One of the things I use my Libre app for is writing notes when I do flash readings, describing if I feel okay or not, and recording the full contents of my meal. I'd heard you can't enter any notes at all in the dexcom app, and that would be real dealbreaker for me, if true.

Then the sensor stopped working for 8-1/2 hours, it started working again this morning, but is consistently reading more than 20-30 points lower than finger stick tests are - and I know the finger stick tests are pretty accurate. The freestyle app has no setting to compensate/calibrate for the low freestyle readings.

I've had no problem with the adhesive - if anything it's too good as it's still stuck fast after 10/11 days and can be a bit painful to remove - though I don't use adhesive solvent which would ease removal. I also don't use the over-patch as I find I don't need it. A couple of years ago I used the Libre 1 but gave up with it as it kept coming unstuck.

I am very disappointed with the G7. I've been using it in Germany since mid-November. Since the first sensor only 1 or 2 sensors have lasted 10 days. All other sensors got out of their own accord or I had to shut them down because they displayed completely wrong values. Dexcom refunded all sensors. But what good is a cgm if you can't rely on it? In terms of environmental protection: I prefer a working system to one that I have to replace every 5 days because it doesn't work.
    I had other errors:
    - Setting aid could not be triggered.
    - The sensor thread was not inside the needle.
I will use another cgm as soon as possible.

I keep my phone in my shirt pocket, maybe 16 inches away from the sensor. It doesn’t matter. I even already had one false low 55 alert. G6 had rock solid connectivity compared to the new one. Restart my phone, restart Bluetooth, it doesn’t matter. I live in a small house and if I walk to my kitchen or bathroom without my phone. It disconnects. Very disappointed. I wish I hadn’t “upgraded” yet.

In theory, I loved my Dexcom G6 ... but it never worked for me and there was always a problem. :( For one thing, I had so many problems having it stick to me. I sweat alot, plus I can't go through life without taking a shower. So it would only stay on for a few days. I told this to my Diabetes Educator and she basically made me feel like "I" was the problem. She said she never heard anyone else saying that? Seriouisly? That made me very depressed. Then, there was always calibration issues, or it would be WAY off from my old Glucometer numbers so I would call them at the 1800 number and they would tell me to just replace it and put on a new Sensor/Transmitter. Except they only send you 3 or 4 at a time so I would use them all before I was due a new shipment and have to wait an entire week for new sensors. This was throwing everything off. But I am always going super low during the night and I loved how the alarm would wake me up! That was the best thing that I liked about it! I really love the concept and I really wished it would have worked for me! (Just thinking about it now is making me really sad). So after trying for 3 months I gave up. Even though Insurance paid for it, since I was constantly having to call the 1800 number for new Sensors/Transmitters they would charge me and I didn't have that kind of money. I wish they would fix these problems because I live alone and have no one to help me. Plus my DR and Diabetes Educator constantly making me feel like "I" was the one doing something wrong. I just discovered your videos though and I like them.

Have you tried putting on Skin-Tac liquid to make your sensor stick? Just wipe the adhesive part of the sensor with the Skin-Tac, let it dry and then attach the sensor to your skin. If it still doesn't stick well enough, also add an overpatch over your sensor to help keep it on. You can get those free from Dexcom by contacting them (for the G6),and when the G7 comes out, the patches will automatically be sent with the sensors. My sensor readings are always way off for about the first 12 hours. To avoid the first-day bad readings, I put my sensor on but don't actually start it for at least 12 hours. That should help with the inaccuracies and you shouldn't then have to calibrate. Hope those ideas help.

Hi Tom. Any comments on Medtronic sensors? I have used their insulin pumps for years, love their pump but their sensors are terrible! Their sensors need finger stick calibration (over 24 hr period), last only 7 days, require battery recharging, not as accurate as Libre, big/bulky, difficult to keep stuck on and they are expensive! I can't see that Medtronic CGM tech has changed in the last 15 years. Have you heard this complaint before? Their new pumps support continuous basal rate adjustment however you need to use their sensors. Any word that Dexcom (or others) may work with a Medtronic pump anytime? I would love it if Medtronic would work with Libre, then we would have the best of both words. It's great that these new sensors transmit to a phone app but it would be more useful if they could talk to a pump (Medtronic) and adjust basal rate automatically. That would be a good discussion for a video. Maybe Medtronic would see it!

    • @rokhayawaring
      @rokhayawaring Рік тому

..."It's great that these new sensors transmit to a phone app but it would be more useful if they could talk to a pump"... If you say you like Medtronic's pumps... Have you tried the OMNIPOD 5? It does both of those things. Oh- and it's tubeless. I just switched to it from 15 years on Medtronic and it's SO much more user friendly. I feel like a new person! I actually look forward to using the app on my phone and recently my watch and looking at all my data right there... no need to go to my doc to download and see my stats (which being a Mac person I was never able to do at home with Minimed). And that is a major motivator for better control. It's so easy to SEE what's happening and then make adjustments as necessary, though so much of it is automated and based on the algorithm so we don't have to do all the math and all that guesswork.. If you really want "the best of both worlds"- I can't say enough good stuff about the OMNIPOD 5 pump which works with the DEXCOM G6 sensor. Both are the best things (so far) I've had in managing my 40 years of Type 1.

Hi Tom, I"m a T1 and wear a TSlim-X2 Pump with Control IQ, and I've been a Dexcom G6 CGM user for a couple of years. I recently upgraded my Tslim program to be compatible with the Dexcom G7. It has been a horrifying experience . I have used two of the new G7s and Dexcom is replacing the two after only wearing them for a few days. Personally the G7 is not really accurate and many people suggest inserting the unit in one or two days before the old sensor expires as the first two days seem very inaccurate (Lows that are not low and highs that are not high). But then what is the point of a 10-day sensor as this practice takes away from the 10 days (now you have an 8 day sensor ?). The most frustrating part is the Out of Range error when my pump and G7 are no more than 9 inches from each other. When It goes out of range the Control IQ stops working and only delivers Basil units. If you happen to be close to a Low, the pump is going to cause you harm as it still continues to deliver that Basal unit as Control IQ is off until the CGM is back working again. I have had to move the Pump from my chest and attach it to my arm where the G7 is located. Like wise if you miscalculated the Bulus for 1/2 cup of ice cream when it loses range, your blood sugar is not corrected; again because Control IQ is off.
I called Dexcom and yes, they are sending me another G7 to replace the one that's not working. I called Tandem to advise them of the problem and the support person didn't have a grasp on what Control IQ does . She said the pump is intuitive and will continue to provide your Basal dose. That's not intuitive and could be the wrong move for your health. Tom what are your thoughts on the issue of Control IQ and the Out of Range issue. Maybe you use the App and phone for your G7 and pump, but I never have used the App as I can't sleep with my phone.
