    Interesting video but I will stick with Eversense 180 day soon to be 365 day with no environmental waste like all the other CGM's on the market. It's nice to see alternatives though in other countries but Eversense is made in the good ol' USA and I have tried Libre and Dexcom and Eversense is still the most accurate in my opinion. this comes at the right time, since I am deeply disappointed by he freestyle libre 2. The FL2 deviates 25 points to the up when it returns higher values, and 0..15 points when the glucose is low (12 measurements, sensor inserted for 3 days). It seems that the algorithm is inaccurate, not the sensor, but overall, it is not accurate enough to be of any value.
    Thank you very much

    • @rayfostyn
      @rayfostyn Рік тому

      I agree but how long have you tried Libre? If you've only used say 1-3 sensors you may be a bit early to be disappointed. Some sensors are awful but others are stunning and 2 weeks of perfectly accurate readings is a joy and gives your fingerstick fingers time to recover!. I dunno if this variation in sensors (some being great and some awful etc) is due to irregularities in their manufacture but more likely it is just a bad / unlucky site (eg too close to or too far from a tiny blood capillary / in a relatively unvascularised piece of tissue / clot formed around needle etc). If you carry on with Libre for ~4-6 months, you will see this variation between sensors and learn how to deal with it. (If you have already used Libre for this sort of time and it's not for you then fair enough!).
      There are ways to get around inaccurate sensors without immediately binning them. 1) on the Libre reader (dunno if you can do it on the app) for regular errors (eg if it always reads too low / high because unlucky sensor site / blood clot around sensor etc) just change the range on your reader graph. (Eg if my range is 4-8mmol (say!) but reader always reads 1.2 - 1.4 mmol or so too high, I just change my range up ~1.3mmol to 5.3 - 9.3mmol then, tho the actual readings are still high, they / the graph appears within my normal range. It does mean your reader will show false high values (which messes up your long term stats for endo but other sensors will read low compensating overall long term averages) but at least I can see from the graph if I am in my normal range without having to keep mentally subtracting / adding 1.3 to each reading etc). 2) you can always do fingersticks alongside the Libre (defeats the point I know but often you find (for example once the clot around the filament dissolves) over a few days, the sensor goes back to being accurate so can be used for the rest of its life with good readings). 3) In the UK at least, if a sensor is poor, take several photos of its readings and trend versus your fingerstick values (when trend is flat) and send them to Abbott (online) who usually replace bad sensors free of charge. 4) If you have an iphone get the Shuggah app. Much better than the Libre 2 app in my opinion and much better algorithm I feel, as used alongside the Libre reader and fingersticks, it appears (for me) to always be closer to my fingerstick result. However even better than that, you can calibrate your sensor in the app (single or multiple values) if it is reading badly. Usually I just use the default "sensor algorithm" option in Shuggah which works great and as I mentioned is usually better then the Libre reader but for inaccurate sensors then switching on calibration is great. The calibration options mean you can really draw in the accuracy of most sensors and are great to use when you have a poor sensor. (Incidentally, Shuggah also gives coeff variation as mentioned in the video above). (Don't think Shuggah works on Android / other phones but there are other 3rd party apps out there which will ink to Libre so worth looking to see if they allow calibration).
      I have to say, I try for very tight control (3.9-5mmol/70-90 mg/dl) using Bernstein type diet) and Libre was far too inaccurate / slow for this so I used multiple fingersticks for years. However with Shuggah, I have managed to get some use out of Libre as a helpful adjunct despite the problems with some of the sensors that you mention so worth considering. (As a final point I found Shuggah to be brilliant so multiple thanks to all those who developed both it and xdripiOs if they are reading this - lifesavers, thank you!) Regards

      @@rayfostyn first one ever.. point is, that i had to find out whether i have Lada or not. a1C s measuring too high, while everything else is fine. I also have not enough money to be able to afford a sensor every 2 weeks. I cross checked with 8 finger pricks and it confirmed that the sensor is moe or less consistently too high by 17..23 points. From the course I onclude that the pancreas is working fine
      I still have a question, you probably know the answer: my body fat is low (10%) and i do not have fat tissue on the arm at all. Can it be that if it reaches int the muscle that readings are too high?

    • @rayfostyn
      @rayfostyn Рік тому

      @@monnoo8221 Hi. I don't know to be honest but I would think (guess!) that (1) even with no fat, skin is usually at least 0.5cm thick which is length of sensor filament so i doubt if it (the sensor filament/electrode) is fully reaching muscle. (2) I also have very little fat on the back of my arm also but for the above reason still don't think sensor is reaching muscle. (3) if it did reach muscle I would expect it to hurt when the muscle contracts (as muscles move (ie they contract unlike connective tissues) and would pull on the relatively fixed filament?) and (4) don't worry, even if the filament is reaching muscle (which I am guessing not from the above), it should not make the sensor read higher necessarily as tissue fluid glucose equilibrates with plasma glucose whatever tissue you are using. (If anything I would guess muscle will equilibrate faster than less vascular tissue. Muscle might also use up glucose faster but basically my guess is that the sensor is not reaching muscle despite no fat and, even if it is, that is not a cause for specific sensor inaccuracy so don't worry on that score).
      Interesting that you found your sensor consistently high by 1 - 1.3 mmol (17 - 23mg/dl). I often find sensors read about this much falsely high (just like the example I gave in my first answer!). I think Abbott did have some problems with sensors reading a bit high. Still the answers I gave in first answer should help address this even tho it is irritating when a sensor is not accurate.
      Just a final thought, if your glucose levels are all fine on fingersticks (I assume this is what you mean when you say your pancreas works well?) and yet your HbA1c is still high, there can be other causes for the raised A1c - google "Causes of false high HbA1c" to see if any of these apply (anaemias / haemoglobinopathies for example among other things can cause this false result...)
      The above comments are just my overall thoughts in reply to your question. I hope they are of help (but the answers may be wrong despite me trying to be helpful. They are however what I think!). Regards

    I have never used a CGM in the past and joined for 2 free units by Sibionics .. I am at the end of the first sensor's 14days and really dont think its worth wearing the second.. To give you an example why, its been couple of days now I should have died from hypoglycemia !! Constant measurements under 70 or even 60 even while I've been eating .. or, measuring 65 when BGM measures 130-140 or over even.. the slower than BGM response is understandable but getting notices you have hypoglycemia when you are at normal levels and with a big difference is very sad.. on the other hand, I consider placing the second sensor, perhaps the first one was not placed correctly (I dont think so!) or, it was faulty(?).. if it was faulty though, I have been carrying it for 14 days for nothing :(

      So no data gaps unless you go out of Bluetooth range - and even if you do, when you get back into range your smartphone updates within a minute or two.
