There is no accelerator pump on the carb so twisting the throttle does nothing. Put on hose on the carb fuel inlet to dribble some gas into the bowl first.
When I start mine in Spring, I pull the vacuum hose that is on the carburetor and use the stem that comes with an aerosol can of starting fluid. I blow about three seconds worth directly into the throat. It starts instantly and run just long enough to pump gas from the tank to sustain life. The Helix has absolutely no redundant starting method. Therefore I go easy on the starter. The engine must be dismounted to change the starter. And OEM starters are not cheap. In 1996 it cost $280.00 and had to be shipped from Japan. It was defective and covered under warranty.
Thanks for this info! The starter on my Helix tends to get stuck sometimes. You mentioned that the engine has to be dismounted to replace the starter. Did you do this yourself in the past and how difficult was it?
You’re killing me with that starting technique!
It's not a technique, it's pure ignorance! Leave a Thumbs up and subscribe if you haven't already !!!
I have 2 helixes and 2 goldwings. I start them every other day regardless of weather.....

Can you show me exactly where this vacuum hose is that you speak of?
Ether is very dangerous in that it can bust a piston. Just prime the float bowl with Gas first through a carb vent.

Take off the hose to the carb and turn it on it will spray gas out if its working. Or just get an inline clear fuel filter and watch it fill up.
That's ok starters are cheap.damn
