The Only Motorcycle I Regret Selling..

  • Over the past four years of uploading UA-cam videos, I have been known to go through motorcycles like toilet paper. Buying, selling, trading, it’s something that I get a kick out of and has constantly brought fresh content to the channel. I mean let’s be real if I would have stayed doing the same things that I started with I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. Not only in numbers but more importantly in the experiences that I have had. From dirt bikes to Grom’s, Harley’s, Sport bikes and scooters, I’ve gotten the chance to test out a bike in pretty much every category. I still need to get my hands on a proper adventure bike.
In my early life I was quite materialistic, holding on to pointless possessions, always worried about losing things and attached so much value to objects rather than experiences. It eventually got to the point where having so much stuff was exhausting overwhelming and I slowly started to let things go. Now I completely understand family heirlooms and have some of my own but that’s not what I’m talking about. When you have kept the same pack of unused pencils from the book fair back in elementary school you know you have a problem.
Years later I am still far from a minimalist, but I am getting there and let me tell you it feels damn good. At the end of the day stuff is just stuff and most of it can be replaced, but out of all of the motorcycles I have bought and sold, there is one that I still find myself missing. And as a matter a fact, it’s not technically even a motorcycle, but a land yacht of a scooter.
That’s right, out of all the expensive toys that I have had this is one machine that I just had to get my hands on again. As you can see we are back in rural Ohio but here in another week we will be carving the beautiful mountain roads in Tennessee and while I thought about taking the Husqvarna I really wanted something more street-able. We’re headed down during the small bore rally which is a spinoff of the legendary event held by Man in the box. As the name implies minis are the subject and for these tight winding twisties, they just make sense. So in my daily routine I hopped on Facebook Marketplace and started the search, I had a few rigs in mind but always came back to the one of a kind, Honda Helix. Now I gotta give a very big shoutout to my number one supporter, my Mom. She actually went on this marketplace mission solo and sealed the deal on this 1996 barn find of a Helix. We will call it the red rocket from now on.
Also known as the Fusion, or “Spazio”, the CN250 was introduced from Honda Japan in 1986. This was one of the first of its kind. Primarily catered to the middle age market and designed for comfort and long range touring. With the disc brake in the front and obnoxiously long wheelbase it stopped on a dime and rode like a Cadillac. Overall aesthetic was a love hate but to me the Retro vibe just can’t be replicated and I find myself looking back at this thing every time I walk away.
The performance, now I’m not a huge speed guy. I’ve ridden liter bikes at triple digits, sent dirt bikes up massive hill climbs, but on the road I’ve always had more fun with less. That being said the 244cc liquid cooled 2 valve 4 stroke is no slouch and the V Matic transmission gets you up to a top speed of around 70mph with ease. Coming in at almost 350 pounds the Helix is a tank of a scooter, but the way Honda designed the steering angle and ergonomics, this boat loves to dive into the corners and eats pavement like a proper canyon carver.
Combined with the looks, and pure nostalgia, there is something about this oddly shaped land yacht that just gets me off. As with everything prices are increasing but if you are lucky you can find one of these in mint condition for around $1,500. This is by far the most fun that I’ve had on two wheels and I really hope I can bring her with me on the road next time around.
I’m going to end the video out with some raw riding clips. I know the high won’t last forever but when I tell you that this is the most fun machine I’ve ever ridden I mean it. And the looks that you get, the conversations that it brings just make it all the better. I’ve got some pretty wild plans for the ol’ Red Rocket and be sure to drop a comment and a like on this video if you are excited to have one of these back on the channel. I hope I could share a bit of this happiness with you and until the next video, live free, and Adventure Daily.

I bought a new Helix in 1998. I still own/ride it, but it needs A LOT of work. I tell people often that it is the greatest thing I've ever owned (and I have/had some really cool STUFF!) Your vid makes me feel validated. When I bought it, the Helix was more an object of derision than nostalgic cool or whatnot. Cafe racers were the rage and Harley dudes looked down on it. It is dorky. But it is soooooo fun! So, too bad if they dont get it.

The foot brake is so sweet on these. I knew an older guy that would let me rip one back in the day, it reminded me of a halfass jet ski on land, you could really carve corners with it, as you know. I'd keep that thing forever! Can't wait to see you rip that baby off road a bit!

I just bought one today. Picking it up on Saturday. Near mint for $1300 with new tires and brakes and 100% stock. Cant wait to hit the road with this little critter. It's funny, you mentioned a Goldwing. I almost bought one yesterday but I could not deal with the feet arrangement and that huge ass boxer engine in the way so I passed. With this thing, I can put my feet wherever I want and that couch of a seat. Damn comfy bike. Normally I would want a back rest but I am thinking that may not be needed with this one. Thanks for the preview of what is in store for me and now off to see your Tennessee ride 🙂

@@katiemac31 it's pretty easy to be honest with you, take off both mirrors (two bolts each) then take off the windshield (believe it's like 4 screws) the dash cover has 2 screws that hold it in I believe, one by the parking break and one on the other side, it will just slide off afterwards. The Guage lights are the top (towards the windshield) and on the bottom (both sides on the top of where the lights go in have 2 places where lights go in, one is for turn signals and the bottom one is for the guage.) their is a video on this if you look it up, it's actually fairly easy and at most will take you about 30 minutes to a hour (took me longer as wanted to clean areas I normally couldn't reach as easy)

I'm definitely a minimalist. Been that way for a while, but a flood in my old apartment definitely reinforced that fact. Before the apartment flood I could put everything I owned into my HHR and it would take 2 trips to move, with the biggest item being my bed. Now It takes 1 trip, the biggest item still being my bed but the few things I have left over fit snugly on top.
I've wanted a Helix for decades, since I first saw one somewhere back in the early 90s. I honestly can't remember when i first saw it or heard about but I've wanted one ever since. They are unfortunately, more expensive than car in my neck of the woods. My HHR I bought for 2700$, the cheapest Helix I can find is 3k and no guarantees despite the ad that it's going to run for shit.

I just bought my second Helix and was watching YTube and found your video. I used my original Helix daily for everything. I put thousands of miles on it and the wife loved cruising the back roads of PA. I had it for years. However, I wanted a bit bigger and faster to be able to run long distance on the interstates. I sold the Helix and bought a ST1300. Loved it at first but, It was extremely heavy moving around the garage, very heavy trying to move it in and out of parking spaces with the wife on it. She didn't like the shifting or the rear seat. My riding got less and less. I went from riding daily to every once in a while. I wanted my scooter back. 5 years later. Sold the ST1300 and bought a Suzuki AN650 Burgman. I couldn't find anything negative written about it. I thought it would would be the best of the ST and the Helix. It wasn't. The suspension sucked. The seat was even worse. The wife quit riding with me. I spent over 2K with custom designed shocks and sv650 front forks modified to fit the burgman. Way better but not good. I wanted to love it. After 4 years, I just sold it. I just bought my second helix and am loving life again. The wife is back on back and smiling the entire time. If you stay off the interstate, I'll go and exit or 2 but not far, it is all you will ever need. It will never die. I've owned over 50 motorcycles and it is the only one I want back. It just makes Smiles. Great Video, Thanks

The problem with minimalism is everything cost more tomorrow. An example is my dad bought sparkplugs for his motorcycle for $1.99 for 4 about 30 years ago. now theyre $7.99 each. If you can get a house and storage it makes sence to keep everything you will buy later. Were running 100% inflation a year now. its harder to buy things when youre older. And will cost you massively. objects are worth more than the money will be even in a year. .

I've had 2 kymco agility 125's. The first crapped out just past 60k miles, the second one has 5k and I daily drive it for grub hub delivery. $2000 total cost for 5 years of riding.

I sold my helix to size up since our apartment garage only has room for one bike, but I honestly can't remember why. It did almost everything any 500-1000cc bike I've ridden since can do with less gas AND a trunk

Wish, Honda make a new one with 2 engine options: 350-500cc ICE and even an all Electric (abour 20hp +).
Seat and Ride exact as comfortable as the classic CN250!

I bought a black one, a 2001. I took off the lower trim and painted it red. The upper plastic is still black. I was afraid that it couldn’t be seen as well, being black. It can be seen well now. I also have an 1100 Shadow and I ride the helix more than my motorcycle now. It’s just more fun and 70mpg is nothing to sneeze at. I live 30 miles from the tail of the dragon. I will get on the helix and go anywhere. I wouldn’t hesitate to take it cross country.

I have inherited my dads old Helix. Looks to be similar to this one in this video or maybe a year or two newer. Needs work done to it but I don’t know anything about them or bikes in general.
Was looking to sell it but this video makes me want to fix it up for my kids to enjoy as they grow up🤔
Anyone interested in it, reach out. I have no use for it
