Consumerism is just a huge problem in the beauty and fashion industry. I’m glad you spoke up about repurposing those products instead of just throwing them away. You’re amazing Mia ❤
especially since thats like 90% of her old videos! not like its her fault, thats what people watched back then. but i’ve noticed shes been buying more stuff like the pallets returned items and donating the ones that are usable
It was not like that in the earlier 2000. Just got extremely popular around the 2010’s I think 🤔 UA-cam “influencers” where the ones that make us this way. Cause you can ask around older generations. People used to have a little bag with just few things.

That make up "expiration" expectation is gonna be a HUGE no for me. 😂 Unless they start to smell, look, or seem like they can no longer be worn, I will continue to hoard like a dragon.
I go through the exact same emotions and difficulties when decluttering. Mia did a freaking amazing job and got rid of well over 3/4 of her collection. Be proud of yourself! I end up keeping way more because of the anxiety and emotional overwhelm of sorting through each piece, remembering why I loved it, and worrying about the environmental impact of just throwing something out.
urgh yes this exactly! And the possibility that you MIGHT want it in future so it's better to keep it... except you really probably won't and you want the space to be clear...
Oh that's such a good point. I almost judged when she said "10 years" but then I remembered the state of my bathroom and the fact I'm not a content creator.
I put things in a box then come back to it. Sometimes being faced with a whole box of stuff I’ve no need for makes it easier to ditch a big batch. I know there is no treasure in there because I’ve done that part of it already.
i promise you, as a girl that ate up the “beauty guru era”, i have a whole Ikea stand of makeup too girl. no need to apologize for/feel bad for it, you’re doing right by how you’re processing it now 💗🌼😌
What I love is you were honest that you felt better when you hadn’t cleaned it out. There are so many people that struggle with letting things go and only get psyched thinking they will feel so much better at the end. But that’s not true, sometimes it just hurts but you should still do it anyway. Thank you!
🙋🏻♀️ Fellow hoarder here. Good job, Mia. I'm proud of you. I also got uneasy feelings as you were getting rid of stuff...thinking to myself, "but what if she needs it?!" 😅 Clearly I'm an enabler too.
I truly appreciate that no matter what platform or channel Mia is posting on she is always the same genuine, kind, authentic, thoughtful, beautiful soul. Thanks for just being you giiiiirl ❤ (and for bringing mama maples into our lives too 😄❤)
As someone who needs to declutter my office/craft room, I totally understand the "what if I need it" feelings! Definitely using this video as motivation to actually get some cleaning done 💖
Same. I have SO many things and I'm like "but what if I want to make something with pipe cleaners one day?" "What if I need this random paint color one day?"
As a hoarder myself I kinda understand the end of the video, it’s not easy to get rid of things, and no, it doesn’t makes you feel you good once you’ve done. But I’m glad you still did it :) you’re right, you probably won’t miss those items in a few days and you’ll be able to enjoy more deeply the ones you actually wanted to keep
I was literally procrastinating decluttering my bathroom cupboards when your video popped up. And now I'm inspired to purge all the crap I've been holding on to for years! Thanks! Now I just need some cute organizers.
I love this video so much! I only recently realized I’ve been grappling with my own hoarder tendencies in all my videos lately as well. 😅 Creating imaginary scenarios where you could end up using that neon liner you’ve never worn is so relatable. Keeping empty containers is something I’m guilty of too. What if they become useful someday? 🤣 Your bravery has inspired me to try to do more decluttering too!
I always say I don't remember anything. My memories are attached to things and places; seeing the thing/place makes me remember so much easier and more details. When I moved out from my mom's, I took pics of a lot of things I threw away; little drawings, broken cherished toys, school essays... I have yet to miss having those things, but I did love coming across the pics in my memory card. I haven't missed having around the things I put into storage either, but the knowledge that I have them there makes me feel safe. My mom sold my childhood home and I cried about it a lot. The things I hoarded into storage when I moved out are what I have left of my heart's home. I have lived in my newest apartment for 4 years and it barely feels like a home. Currently I'm trying to get inspired to declutter my clothes. Ironically newer stuff is easier to let go. I have been practically the same size from 12yo and I have some cherished pieces from then; I might not like how they look on me anymore or they might be repaired too many times to stay whole, but I can't just give them away - they are part of my childhood memories. I will try my picture trick on some of them, see if the knowledge that I will have at least that left will make giving them away easier...
I feel you and I believe this is something positive that the Pandemiiiee taught us. You don't need 3 neon eye shadow palettes if you don't wear them even if they look cool. Just get what you would wear.
I felt this - had to do this when moving in August to our house and not wanting to take heaps of stuff with me. Well, at the age of 31, I had a hoard of make up going back 15 years with manufacturers that have long been gone and I lobbed it all in the bin as got a shock with the expiry dates for make up as I'm always shaking things and reusing even mascara that gives a burning feel because it actually works. It's so much easier just having a small collection than a large hoard when getting ready and sadly, as we age, our skin changes (here's when I'm feeling like an old wifee!). Well done for downsizing your collection and looking to keep it small.
This DID inspire me and I am decluttering and re-potting all of my make-up into a total of TWO palettes. Because you’re right, I wear the same exact thing every day. Why the heck did we buy all these eyeshadow palettes in 2016??
I'm proud of you Mia. This is exactly how I declutter things I've collected over the last decade (complete with talking myself into getting rid of it). You done great!
Consider me inspired! I have a tiny bathroom and an over flowing amount of hair stuff/toiletries, half of which o don't use. I literally went and got them and started.gping through it during the vid. I'll tackle my makeup next (also, those Revlon lipsticks from 10 years ago? Totally guilty, I finally threw mine out last year
With pallets, what helped me, was buying nail polish shelves off amazon, like clear acrylic ones, and hanging them up to put the pallets on display. So not only are the cool ones decorative, but I also won't forget what I have. They are displayed in my beauty room :)
A fantastic way of decluttering is also to take time to CLEAN your makeup/brushes/items etc. So many times we avoid using something subconsciously because it's dirty. When it's all clean and fresh, it can change our perspective of it and give us a better understanding of if we want to let it go or not. I just got rid of a HUGE hoard of makeup, nail varnish, and skincare. I took time to clean each one and it let me also say goodbye to it. I'm going to offer the stuff I don't use to my family so it also helped to make everything look more presentable.
@@missbeaussie She had developed an eye infection from possibly expired makeup so she went through and decluttered all of her expired makeup. She did I think 2 videos on it in total.
I literally watched the closed Swedish death cleaning and got rid of 4-6 years of clothes that either don’t fit, I don’t like on me or just won’t wear. Now I’m gonna have to go through my pallets too. I feel like every time I see a fellow hoarder do a clean out, that I have to as well and it’s probably the only way I’ll throw boxes and things I never use out
You crack me up. I have like two lip liners, two blushes, two palettes (I use neither because eyeshadow always makes my eyelids itch like crazy) … one foundation, one primer, one mascara … 😂 Maybe if I knew how to apply makeup properly I’d wear it more. But I suck at it. Also, I LOVE decluttering! It’s one of my favourite activities. The only things I tend to hoard are books and DVDs. But I just recently went through my DVDs and pulled out 72 to give away. I felt so proud of myself! When it’s something you love, it’s hard to let go.
You have no idea the excitement when I saw the Winnie the Pooh colourpop collection! I had no money to buy it when it came out, but I’m glad they’re going to someone who will hopefully love them!
You really inspired me to clean out my things! I’m such a big consumer and hoarder too. Most of my things are completely brand new and are be never even touched them! It’s Insane. Looks like I’m doing a clean out this weekend
Love the fact that you are putting videos on this channel again and also that you do it more frequently than we are used to get new Mia videos usually. Also I'm happy for you that you got rid off extra makeup that you don't use but my heart is bleeding because all that stuff would be a dream come true for me I could never effort great makeup like this. But it's obvious that you need to get rid of them I just wish I could teleport the ones your friends and family don't want to me.
Mia!! Girly we all have weird collections of stuff we like or think we need. The good thing is you went through it and got rid of what you didn’t need. No shame there.
I volunteer to accept anything you don't keep lol 3 daughters and then myself so girly stuff is always needed ☺️ but seriously though wherever it gets donated to I bet they love and appreciate you so much! Also love getting to see so much of you!! ❤️
I CANTTT im not even done with the video but you were so hard on yourself!! i literally just cleaned out my collection (not too big) and kept way more than you so far. i dont even wear makeup every day or even every week. u marie kondo'd amazingly
honestly I'm very proud of you for sorting through your drawers properly because I'm the same with like shampoo and skin care products because for whatever reason I like to switch out products ever so often (I also keep empty packaging for way too long after the product inside ran empty) since you don't want to get rid of your brushes (fair they get scrungly over time) now would be a very good time to wash them
Im in a decluttering and organization phase. I have gone through ALL my stuff. This video reminded me to go through my ancient makeup....so thanks for giving me another organization task 😂😂
I went through my makeup recently. My big thing was lipsticks. Got rid of a lot of them but I feel you... the packaging is so pretty and even if you never wear it you're like "but if I get rid of this color then I wont have it and what if I want it later." It does such just how much packaging and stuff can get thrown away. I saw in one of Safiya Nygaards videos i think, they were able to bring empty packaging to Nordstrom who recycled it! So if you can clean out the packaging and it is glass/plastic bottles/tubes, nordstrom apparently takes it!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps empties lol. I kept empty candles for so long, YEARS, but never made an official display of them like I wanted to, so I finally just threw them away this week. 😂
Mia, it wasn't bad that you collected all this makeup, it was literally for your job. I, like my late father, am loathe to get rid of stuff, because it's either sentimental, or because it may be useful in the future. I'm getting someone in to help me with making decisions on what I want to keep because it is somehow connected to a significant person or place that's no longer around, and what I can part with. The idea of throwing out anything connected to my late parents, makes me feel something very unpleasant in the pit of my stomach. I understand having emotional connections to much less significant things too. I found a small little piece of quartz while walking to Safeway. It's just a rock, and I've kept it for 3 years, wtf is that about? You did really well with 'The Purge'! ✌️&💛 from Winnipeg!
I'm obsessed with makeup (especially during the makeup influencing era) and it took everything in me to resist buying every product that I was attracted to or my favorite beauty influences raved about. Years later, I'm happy that I don't have a huge makeup collection that I can't make use of and realize that all you need is a number of products in each category to satisfy your makeup needs
"...they won't mind if we share eye bacteria." The best! Good job Mia! I now how hard it is when you see something and then say, well I might need that one day! We all do it!
Great work Mia! Now go through it again in a week or so and I guarantee you'll be ready to part with more items. It's hard to do the initial purge, but it gets easy after that 😊
Mia I love watching your videos and your bond with your mom it’s so sweet and funny too. Your such an creative and fun person! I also live in Canada and I think it would be a fun video to go to a bunch of cool Canadian places or something like that😊
I just went through my whole collection aswell after watching tati get rid of a lot! and I feel better about my collection now, and have been more inspired to actually use my makeup!
When I did a big clean out of my makeup 7 or so years ago I didn't feel good after it either & tbh I still think about some of what I threw out. BUT in the long run it has kept me from buying more & that's what's important to me.
Mia, I live in Vancouver and some of the women’s shelters/drop ins accept gently used makeup. Next time you are decluttering, you should see if any around you do as well :)
i’ve had the same eyeshadow pallets since the beginning of high school (i’m graduating college now lol) I remember saving up for anastasia eyeshadow pallets , i’m not throwing them out!!
I really loved getting into makeup (basics) and wore it a lot because I wanted to. Then the pandemic hit, I was working more than I had been. Then I moved and knew a lot of mine had well expired and there were some products I just wore more. Like clothes, there's some I always change out of into something else because of one thing about it. Or I like both but always prefer one more. Makeup can be the same way, so I've learned to feel a little bad but have it be a lesson that I just don't wear (insert thing here). But I also do not feel bad about buying more expensive makeup products I really love and work well for me.
I really want to see someone use expired makeup in an art piece...like those deconstructed electronic wall art pieces but with makeup...it could be a really cool way to recycle your favorite pieces especially if it's packaging you love 💕
Mia can you do an updated daily makeup tutorial or show us what you use on the daily?! I’ve been dying to know what products you use esp your foundation ❤
Good for you Mia! I have to do the same thing with my childhood room. There was a pair of jeans (beautifully embroidered) that is at least 18 years old! Edit: I forgot to add this - you did great job! The overflowing container is the evidence to that. Also, love this channel! I will watch more videos in the near future
i’m also a huge makeup hoarder too! i still love buying lip products even though i barely wear makeup anymore. i also have such a hard time getting rid of my makeup even though it’s probably super old
Between you and Tati I’m definitely cleaning mine out 😄 I’ve been hoarding makeup for about as long as you!! Also died when you said you were gonna ask family members since they prob wouldn’t mind the sharing of eye bacteria 🤣🤣
so feel you with the hoarding, half of my craft materials is garbage that i've decided i need to repurpose 😅😅 but reduce reuse recycle, so it's def a positive thing!
"What if" or "one day" are signs it needs to go. You definitely have your shit together a million times more than me but keeping so many empties is genuinely a hoarding symptom I say this as someone currently taking a class for hoarding. Not just consuming to consuming is such a huge statement and not as easy as it sounds. You did great! Proud of you.
I literally screamed when I saw some of these palettes because I forgot I also owned them at one point. I had so many palettes and I was keeping them pristine, like for WHAT? I wasn't an influencer, I was just a hoarder with undiagnosed ADHD. Nowadays I only have like 5 palettes and that's it.
It seems wild to me that people wear foundation to school everyday. In my country, foundation is still pretty much a special occasion thing. In my school we weren't allowed any makeup at all, except eyeliner haha Great job on the decluttering Mia! Hope you felt much better about it after you had donated the stuff and gotten rid of the empties
Good foundation is harder to see that someone is wearing it. I wore it to school most days cause I have rosacea and my face is often bright pink without it.
Thank you for this inspiration!!! I've been collecting my makeup stash for like 20ish years, so mines pretty bad. Would love to see the "after" results of the organizer!! Love all of the second channel content lately Mia 💗
Consumerism is just a huge problem in the beauty and fashion industry. I’m glad you spoke up about repurposing those products instead of just throwing them away. You’re amazing Mia ❤

That's so cute! I didn't know that was a thing!
I also didn't know this was a thing, thank you so much for commenting this!!!!
I always do this!! Takes time to save up, but I get so happy when I mail them🥹
This is so amazing ❤
Looked them up and they are from NC, where I live! How cool. I don’t use mascara enough to send my wands though😭
Mia scolding herself in her safe space is such a Canadian mood.

Very True :)

I’m loving all the extra channel content lately Mimo. You’re working overtime and it’s much appreciated 💜💜

Absolutely!! ❤
That make up "expiration" expectation is gonna be a HUGE no for me. 😂
Unless they start to smell, look, or seem like they can no longer be worn, I will continue to hoard like a dragon.
Any product with oil in it will go rancid pretty soon after expiration.
So true. I wear concealer like twice a year
SAME!!!!!!
Same. It is a fact that make-up expires, but I choose to completely ignore that fact.
Like what's even the point of limited editions pallets if I'm supposed to chuck it in a year or two?? Uhm no I'm taking that to my GRAVE
I go through the exact same emotions and difficulties when decluttering. Mia did a freaking amazing job and got rid of well over 3/4 of her collection. Be proud of yourself! I think to myself, if my house burnt down would if miss it or care about it enough to re buy it? if not it's out.
trixie said "people do declutters and dont really get rid of anything" and mia maples said "we dare not disappoint the queen"
I love the idea that this hoard of make-up has moved houses with you several times without being used though.
Oh that's such a good point. I almost judged when she said "10 years" but then I remembered the state of my bathroom and the fact I'm not a content creator.
What she’s not saying that she did this several years ago or another video.
We're being so spoiled with all this content lately ❤️❤️❤️
Great job Mia! Pro declutter tip : come back in 3 days to a week, then at one month. Each time you'll feel more free to release more stuff!

Your lifestyle is so calm and aesthetic that's what every one wants ♥️🥰💖🍓😍
I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps empties lol. I kept empty candles for so long, YEARS, but never made an official display of them like I wanted to, so I finally just threw them away this week. 😂
Can we all just appreciate Mia's hard work that she puts into uploading more than once for us? Love you Mia ♥♥♥
I really enjoy watching this kind of videos, even more with you, you're so funny !
My late father always said, 'it's just things', don't get attached. He never had a problem getting rid of stuff.
Awesome job mia🎉
I'm obsessed with makeup (especially during the makeup influencing era) and it took everything in me to resist buying every product that I was attracted to or my favorite beauty influences raved about. Years later, I'm happy that I don't have a huge makeup collection that I can't make use of and realize that all you need is a number of products in each category to satisfy your makeup needs
Now we need a video organizing all of your make-up haha 😆
I thought the same! Buy some transparent containers and organize those drawers!! Hehehe
We need a makeup video on your every day look, I’m always wondering what pinky nude lipstick you’re wearing!
"...they won't mind if we share eye bacteria." The best! Good job Mia! I now how hard it is when you see something and then say, well I might need that one day! We all do it!
No judgement! You did a great job decluttering. It can be difficult getting rid of stuff, but you'll feel so much better after.
Love your content always, but this definitely made me realized that I miss your makeup videos!! Also good job decluttering (:
Great work Mia! Now go through it again in a week or so and I guarantee you'll be ready to part with more items. It's hard to do the initial purge, but it gets easy after that 😊
loving the extra content and you did good❤❤ i also like keeping empties and idk why🙈
Good for you. I, also, am a hoarder. Seeing you be able to get rid of some things has given me hope that I too will be able to purge some things.
Mia I love watching your videos and your bond with your mom it’s so sweet and funny too. Your such an creative and fun person! I also live in Canada and I think it would be a fun video to go to a bunch of cool Canadian places or something like that😊
I started watching you because i was looking for the best drugstore foundation & concealer! It was the top 7 videoo! And ive been watching ever since❤
I just went through my whole collection aswell after watching tati get rid of a lot! and I feel better about my collection now, and have been more inspired to actually use my makeup!
I’m also a horder. But mainly lip products
enjoyed the declutter! I don't own makeup but always love watching others do a good clean out!
nothing better than mias camera not zooming
i’ve had the same eyeshadow pallets since the beginning of high school (i’m graduating college now lol) I remember saving up for anastasia eyeshadow pallets , i’m not throwing them out!!
You did a great job Mia. I saw the Trixie clean out too lived it, and hey she kept her brushes. It's all good.💚
Mia can you do an updated daily makeup tutorial or show us what you use on the daily?!
I actually miss the makeup content! Watching you try new products, colors, and looks.💘
i’m also a huge makeup hoarder too! i still love buying lip products even though i barely wear makeup anymore. i also have such a hard time getting rid of my makeup even though it’s probably super old
Between you and Tati I’m definitely cleaning mine out 😄 I’ve been hoarding makeup for about as long as you!! Also died when you said you were gonna ask family members since they prob wouldn’t mind the sharing of eye bacteria 🤣🤣
This was so inspiring to me. ❤Mia, please don’t be too hard on yourself
Mia 🤣🤣🤣 we love you, don’t be so hard on yourself. I’m actually super proud of you. That was A lot-a lot you got rid of
so feel you with the hoarding, half of my craft materials is garbage that i've decided i need to repurpose 😅😅
but reduce reuse recycle, so it's def a positive thing!
In my school we weren't allowed any makeup at all, except eyeliner haha
Great job on the decluttering Mia! Hope you felt much better about it after you had donated the stuff and gotten rid of the empties
Good foundation is harder to see that someone is wearing it. I wore it to school most days cause I have rosacea and my face is often bright pink without it.
Mia ,you should get some little cutlery trays from the dollar store to organise in your drawers. It will really help to organise better. 😊
I had those maybelline lip sticks too when I was in school and I was obsessed 🤩
Thank you for this inspiration!!! I've been collecting my makeup stash for like 20ish years, so mines pretty bad. Would love to see the "after" results of the organizer!! Love all of the second channel content lately Mia 💗
