I think people forget that doesn’t matter if you are 15 or 50, skateboarding is just hard and takes time for anyone to build muscle memories. The main difference is when you are older, you usually cant spend as much time skating because of life. But you should always step back and think how much actual time you have spent skating… 3 hours a week for a year is only 6.5 full days worth of skating. And think about what you have accomplished in that short period of time!!!
This is a good reminder. I've noticed that many older people think they should be a good at something just because they are old. When they see younger people who are better than them they get discouraged because they feel like they should be at the same level or higher. They get tied up in the mindset of "I wish I had started earlier because then I'd be better now."
@ yeah I think there’s quite a lot of that. A negative thought that pops into my head too often is “what’s the point?” Like, I’m never gonna be able to realistically achieve my skate goals, so why bother.
For me, it’s about having fun. I’ve made friends and gone out of my comfort zone that I’d otherwise never have done. You can have goals to track achievements but really enjoy the moment and have fun is what will keep you going. Who cares if I’m shit, every pro skater was shit at some point and I’m not aiming to go pro. I’ll just carry on enjoying skating badly and one day I’ll be alright at it 🤣
Great talks about skateboarding in our 40s and talking about things like patience. It this age, it’s definitely a journey. A funny thing is that we have to be patient, go at our own pace, and take our time, but at this age, we feel like the clock is ticking and we have to do these things while we still can. 🤔 Thanks for sharing your journey with us. 👊
Dude, im glad its not just me that has tp do it over and over and over and over and over before i even land the trick. Then, over and over amd over and over until i can land it every time
9:17 less effort, think less. Some of the best advice ever. Skating is about going with the flow, not forcing anything...and giving everything more steez 🤙🤙🤙
That skate iq vid on pumping was brilliant 😊 helped me no end 👍 I've still got a long way to go but defo love the principle of 'jumping up the ramp' ❤ merry crimbo dude ❤
Every session, I have to relearn everything I think I know how to do. I kniw my biggest issue is board time. It is incredibly hard to progress skating once a week. I am now at a point that i can skate during the week as well. I hope to see some serious progress with more time. I think skating in our 40s comes from finally reaching a point in our lives that we start taking care of our selves. Making time for ourselves and investing in our selves honestly makes us better for others. Stay Rad Sir.
On that last note… there’s a point where you recognise that “me time” is really important and this just happens to be that time. I often lament that many times I get on the board and it feels like a foreign object even though I’d skated it 3 times that week. I’m certain it’s a head thing.
Nice kickturns and great shuvs. Feel like pump tracks teached me more how to pump rather than ramp pumping but each to their own, as long as you progress..... Keep shredding mate!!!
Patience is huge at our age, whether you're a beginner or relearning. We're just not the same in any way as when we were teenagers-very solid advice. Digging that griptape, btw! Homemade or store-bought?
Only thing I could think of as good advice in the world of skating, not foot position or turn your shoulders. The grip art was a little commission from Sk8comeback if you know his channel…?
@@Ungracefulmovement Foot position, shoulders, and hips all that stuff gets figured out😂you nailed the best advice. I see to many people get super frustrated with themselves and lack the patience. Frustration is all part of this wild skate journey and life, it really helps you grow, not just as a skateboarder but as a person. I'll head on over to sk8comeback, the algo is starting to send me more channels from across the pond. You guys are killing it over there!!
This is probably the best video you've ever done 😉 Appreciate the shoutout! I'm basically famous now. Like you said, be patient! it's all coming together. Nothing feels natural until it does, then we forget that it was ever hard to begin with.
Good work mate, you are on the same journey as me with the BS shuvs. Im really drilling them now and its starting to pay off. But also worried its boring to watch, luckily your vid shows me its not 😆
Looking good rich. With the shuvs it seems like you’re concentrating on the pop too much atm. Just try and get the rotation first. You’ll have these in no time brother 👊
Fakie shuvits looking relly comfortable, sooooo close with the FS ones (tons of pop as well!) . Feel you on being knackered after infinite tries as well, it is a prrroper workout :)
This re-learn-thing is basically new for me but last time felt the same way as you mentoined in case of your first pop-shuvs, just with nocomplys. Annoying but somwhere in my head I know its not completely lost, since I landed them before. Or at least trying to convince myself it's not. 😂
my bearings are rolling just fine - it was cold, and they are loud anyway so that might have something to do with it. I'm getting the "pop too high" feedback a lot. need to calm down and shuv more. I hear you.
hi, back foot needs to pop less and more of a scoop and push forward kind of hard to articulate but hopefully makes sense, good job though, they arent the easiest tbf, think about how you would push your accelarator in your car just a sharper movement
They will look sick as you have a heighty pop on them. skate stickers, now your taking my language. They look great, are they purchasable via PayPal or anything? I really didn’t think it through not having a good channel name/ brand as even I wouldn’t want my full name on any merch 🤣🤣🤣
I’ve always had good little names. My first UA-cam uploads were INTHEBACKGROUND, because I just wanted to be working out of sight, like a rhythm guitarist or something.

That pumping trick from IQ Mae a huuuge difference for me too

@Ungracefulmovement it takes me 40 minutes to convince my body that it is skateboarding.
Keep hitting those front shuvs mate, there right there.
Had a week away from them, gonna drill them again today.

Do you hear me muttering “less pop, more shuv”? I keep telling myself that. I’m just loving the clean sound of the pop tbf
@ I didn’t hear no lol. Ye tbf your popping it really big that’s why I suggested. Don’t think mine are that big lol

If I’m skating with someone it feels antisocial to spend 30mins banging out those reps… but we’ll see on Thursday.
@Ungracefulmovement nah not at all man, I'm down for a FS shuvit sesh on Thursday, not a trick I've put any time into.

Those bearings sound laboured and you didn't seem to be rolling freely? You also seem to pop your FS shuv-its very high rather than 'shuvin' them.
