I'm not sure about having a dip in that water trough you passed, I don't know about being sick on the day you'd have been sick for a week if you'd have had a dip in that 😂. Didn’t she do brilliant? I’m so chuffed for her 😊 You’re definitely right, I think I’d have been lucky to see the finish line if I’d have dipped even my toes in that trough! Those nettles though 😣 I think they hurt just as much when wet as they did the first time we went though them. Just not having it! 😂 Thanks again for watching and taking time to comment, we always appreciate it 👍
Brilliant running from you both! I’m not surprised with the result the amount of training you guys do, absolute class act. Keep going and keep making these quality videos 👏👌
What a performance Mr & Mrs Mort 🏃♂️🏃♀️ I think that's the best film you have produced. Really enjoyed watching you earn your top 10 places. Cheryl congratulations 🎉well deserved 💪 Great work Mort's! 🏃♂️🏃♀️ 🏆🏆🏆
Well done guys, you both absolutely smashed it. Congratulations Cheryl on your epic win. I don't know how you could do 100 miles on such a flat course. I think I would be bored senseless. Great footage as usual. Looking forward to your next epic. Again, well done to you both.
Absolutely brilliant performance by you both. Top ten finishes under 24hrs and First Lady for Cheryl! 🥇Awesome job. Enjoy your rest and revel in your accomplishments. Well done 🏆
Thank you so much, I don’t think we could have asked for more. Secretly we aimed for a sub 10hr first 50 mile, at least 70 miles in before needing head torches and a sun 24hr finish time. We managed all three but Cheryl’s first female finish was the real cherry on the cake. Really happy for her 😊
Incredible stuff from the both of you. An absolute Stella performance and congratulations on first place Cheryl and top 10 place both of you!! It really is inspiring. 🎉
Thanks Greg, really happy with how it went. I think we both emptied the tank there. It was more than worth it though for the result. I’m so pleased for Cheryl 🥇 😊
Absolutely epic! Your journey through the Chester Ultra was filled with determination, highs, lows, and incredible support. Congratulations on conquering those 100 miles and claiming the first lady title. You both rock! Rest up and keep inspiring. Cheers!
You guys did so great! I'm really glad the new shoe choice was a good one. I love the story about everyone chanting "Cheryl!" I'm so glad she was #1. Awesome job! Congratulations!
Speedgoat 5th were the perfect shoe for this race. Really happy it worked out that way as we chose not to use dropbags so they had to work! I’m so pleased for Cheryl, she really deserved this. Couldn’t be any prouder 😊 Thank you so much 😊
I had a feeling Cheryl might get 1st lady when I saw that you were taking part. 🎉. Well done both of you, I enjoy your videos and seeing all the places that you visit during your runs. I deferred my 2023 entry to 2024, dodgy knee and new dog means I haven’t run as much as needed. GB Ultras are fantastic, their running of events get better and better 🙌🏻😀
She would never have assumed that. She usually does pretty well and comes in the top ten female finishers but coming first was a surprise! Thank very much for watching our videos, we both appreciate it. Also hope your knee sorts itself out soon so you can get back to it. As for GB Ultras, yes, fantastic company. We also did the Pennine Barrier a few weeks ago which is what prompted us to look at this 👍
@@TrailRunningCouple I volunteered at the 2022 Chester 100. The ladies that went off faster and were expected to win, basically went off too hard and DNF’d for whatever reasons. I knew that Cheryl and yourself would pace it well, that’s why I wasn’t surprised 👍🏻
Tremendous, hats off to you both. Well done Cheryl for 1st lady and Gary for coming in the top 10. Testiment to all the hard work and training you've put in.
Fantastic running from you two as always. 1st lady and top 10 from Gary is really impressive. Can't thank you enough for posting these videos up really appreciate your time and effort
Well done to you both. I did The Lap a few weeks ago. It was hot so I had a buff round my wrist that I kept putting in any water that was available. It worked a treat. I will do the same on the Lakeland 50 if its hot.
You just have to do what works. It’s difficult when the weather is like it has been. Thanks very much and congratulations on completing The Lap. We’ve done it both ways and it’s a great event 👍
Awesome running couple, a great team! Epic running with a fantastic, well deserved result! 1st lady 🎉 top ten finisher as well 🎉 Al those weeks of hard training on other events has paid off, well done, huge respect ✊ to you both but especially as a ‘team’ of two 👏👏👏
We really help each other and working as a team definitely has its advantages. I’m so pleased for Cheryl though, it was totally unexpected for her to come in as first female. Really appreciate your comments. Thank you 😊
You two inspire my wife and me to aspire to do what you do. It was another fantastic upload and was nice to see some of the route I ran in the M2L, my first Ultra. Really enjoyed seeing your journey. Massive kudos to you both, and many, many more to Cheryl for being 1st female, what an achievement. Darren and Vikki
Hi Darren and Vikki, thank you so much for your comments, really appreciate them. I’m so proud of Cheryl, she did amazing. It was an absolute joy to be alongside her ❤️
This has got to be one of the best vlogs you have done! Congratulations to you both, beautiful day and a great route! I hope Cheryl is still buzzing after being 1st lady 🎉
I didn't expect you to put up the video so soon 😂. I was tempted with the GUCR race for next year which is on the same day but this race looks like its changed my perspect now. If you liked this race for the canals then i can highly recoment the TP100. My favourite race. I love my speedgoats and glad you chose them for this race. I think i've said in the past that my legs and feet are knackered with inov8's but with the Hoka's after a hundred miles my feet steel feel great. Nothing wrong with being sick also on these races. Practically on every long race over 50 miles im ill. The stomach just isn't able to cope with the stuff we are taking in and then burning it off so quickly. Anyway super well done again. Very chuffed for you both and enjoy the rest. You've earned it...again 😁
I wasn’t doing much last night so why not? Nice food, a beer and looking back at the day! We both said you would love this race. It has a bit of everything. Think NDW, a couple of hills (Frodsham and Helsby) with some canals thrown in. I think the mix of terrain is what made this a good route. I definitely wasn’t drawn to it for canals but at some points I was glad to be back on them. As for sickness, I fear it no more - sooner it’s up the better. Have a sweet coffee and crack on! Speedgoats were absolutely perfect. No drop bags with spare shoes or socks needed! Thanks for your continued support, as always it’s very much appreciated 👍
@TrailRunningCouple Anytime. I love reading and watching how people get on with different Ultras and your channel is up there with my favourites. Still buzzing you used Speedgoats. The only downside to them is the tread wears down quickly. So don't use them anymore until lakeland 😆
@@AndyUltra There’s now 109.5 miles on them, we wore them for a 3 miler and then pretty much out of the box for Saturday. Put Lakeland on them and it’ll be 214.5 miles in 3 runs! They’re definitely being used there though, just the right amount of support and weight.
Iam speechless at these ultra runs. Iam 60,started running in sept last year and had my own achievement today, ran 20 miles,a stroll in the park for you guys. Massive respect and great videos,I watch them all👍
Thank you Alan, 20 miles isn’t a stroll in the park. You can only run what you set out to do and you put all your effort into it so big respect from us 👏 Thank you for watching, really appreciate it 👍
@@alanrobinson2229 Apart from the initial niggles that last for a few days or so we’ll suffer with a ‘heavy leg’ feeling for at least two weeks. You almost feel lethargic, making it difficult to sustain any kind of effort. We’ll probably take this week off for recovery and repair.
It was a great day and I was a bit further back than you both… For me that stretch of nettles along the Warrington loop was the worst bit. Second time through it went quickly as I was so tired by then. By and large I thought the route was well marked but the stretch across the fields in the last section following the NCW was a bit sketchy. Back onto the canal and then the finish at least. My longest and most memorable run! Met a load of lovely people that day. Thanks for sharing your run.
We both agree on the stretch of nettles being the worst bit and also your comments regarding the section before the final canal stretch. We started to get irritated with the massive style type fence crossings as I think our legs had had enough at that point! Well done on your finish and thanks so much for your comments, they’re very much appreciated 😊
Awesome effort as always you guys are always smashing through mental and physical barriers, I always wonder if you guys follow any sort of training programme or even if you’re coached likewise with nutrition, hydration, kit selection, planning routes etc you always seem so dialled in, I think the UA-cam community would love to know/ see some behind the scenes stuff 👍
Thank you so much, really appreciate your comments! We don’t follow a training plan at all. Just do a couple of 10 mile runs in the week and plan a marathon or longer distance over the weekend, ideally with hills to make it feel uncomfortable. We try to embrace that to become used to it. It can then be used for other occasions when we think we have it bad! As for nutrition and hydration again no such plan. I sometimes think that ‘winging it’ was a phrase developed for us. Route planning, we love that. We generally look at races to grab GPX files or even create routes from scratch via Plotaroute. Usually though we tie in the best bits of other routes to create something challenging. We’ve never had coaching, we just do what we do and really enjoy it. It helps so much that way 😊
Forgot to mention, one thing that has helped me recently with nausea in long distance 50+ mile events is strong bottles of Tailwind. The tailwind that is supplied on race day is too weak for me so I top it up with an extra 30g per 500mL bottle. I make up little weighed out sachets for the race so I can top as and when. Doing that really helped me as it was a good balance of electrolytes and sugars for what I needed. I usually have one bottle of strong Tailwind and my other bottle is just plain water.
Thanks. We both said how diluted the pre mixed tailwind was at the check points. We’re usually fans of Mountain Fuel and have quite a few measures sachets so will definitely be taking them for our Lakeland 100 outing! We’re the same as in always one bottle of just water 👍
Amazing achievement, well done both of you! Great video, really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work! Are you coming to Scotland in 10 days time by any chance?
Thanks Matt, absolutely loved it! As for Scotland in two weeks I really wish we could. Work is the main thing getting in the way as well as a Lakes Ultra the week after it. That said, we would still have had a go if we could. Best of luck, hopefully you’ll make a video 👍
Thank you very much! No, didn’t use poles but carried all our kit as we used it as a training run for Lakeland 100 a couple of months later. That said, they were there if we needed them but the course was pretty flat 👍
Hi, thank you 😊 We don’t have a website but kit wise we kind of know what we want. Salomon Adv Skin 12 packs for anything where we don’t need the kitchen sink and Ultimate Direction Fastpack 20’s for those long winter outings where more needs to be carried. Clothing wise we’re big fans of Salomon, Inov8 and Montane. Shoes can range depending on surfaces but Hoka, Altra and Inov8 are brands we trust. Poles, definitely Leki. If you have anything specific then let us know, we would be more than happy to help and advise 👍
We probably should have said hi, we were stood near you before the start. Think you were talking to Tracy. Saw you on the way back down from CP4 too 👍 Looking forward to your account of it and well done on your finish 😊
Hi you amazing humans. Don't even know where to start. I just watched this rollercoaster of a monster challenge you did in one gulp. Congratulations for doing so brilliantly at it. I can't believe you were even running at the end. Salty potatoes and watermelons must have fuelled you well. I had a massive smile on my face when I heard that people in a pub were cheering Cheryl like a celebrity. Two people from my club were running it too. That's why I wanted to see everything, thank you for filming the major bits so it's easy to get a picture what it's like. I agree with Cheryl, I would find wet vegetation soothing for the stings too. Once again, congratulations 🎉 you superhumans! P.S. oh wanted to ask how does your watch not run out of charge and your camera?
Thank you so much Olga, again, really appreciated 😊 We started eating well but soon slowed down due to the heat and distance. You really don’t want anything but know you need it. It’s a strange thing to go though as we absolutely love our food! I really wish I’d have got the chanting on video (had hands full), they were outdoor bars and people were on the tracking app. I’ve never experienced anything like it and Cheryl was in awe!! Hope your friends got around the route safely. Cheryl loved that you agree with her wet nettle theory though I still need convincing 😂 Our watches are Garmin Enduro 2’s which were navigating for the whole 23hrs and 41mins and used 42% of battery life so still another 58% left. Should easily last for Lakeland 100 at well over 30hrs. The batteries on the GoPros also do really well. Whilst we both carried a spare each we didn’t use them.
@@TrailRunningCouple wow the watch last for so long! It's not always easy to film everything. But I could just picture it from your words how they were cheering Cheryl. People know of you two with your casual ultra fun :-) I love seeing your adventures. All the best.
Thank you 😊 The Lone Peaks were brilliant for around 85 miles. I think at that point I suffered due to a lack of cushioning and zero drop. I was quite surprised as they had been a goto shoe for quite some time so put it down to that. I didn’t suffer at all on Saturday with the Speedgoats having a little more cushioning. They also have a 4mm drop. I’m not really convinced a difference of 4mm would cause much of an issue but after that distance it could be a possibility. Still love Lone Peaks for shorter runs but I have full confidence in Speedgoats. Fantastic trail shoe 👍
@@TrailRunningCouple Thank you for the reply. My wife and I are slowly getting into running. We are both in our late forties. I did my longest run on Sunday to date it was 11.5 miles in lone peaks. After the 11.5 miles my Achilles were very sore. I'm wondering if it has to do with the 0 drop? I really enjoy your videos. Thanks
Zero drop isn’t for everybody though we’ve ran a few 50 milers and a 73 mile route with no issues. That said, Cheryl was fine with them on the previous 100, just me that had the issues. I was early 40’s when I started running so you’ve got some good years in you yet. Well done 👍
Can I ask how you navigated around the course? Ive watched a few others that say it is poorly marked, I am hopeless at directions and seriously concerned I will end up doing more miles but I dont have time to go off course and looking at what’s the easiest and best way to navigate round.
I don’t think it’s classed as a marked course as such so you need the ability to navigate a little. As always, we used a GPX file on our watches which makes navigation a breeze. GB Ultras do have a GPX file though we tidied it up a little so if you need it let us know and we’ll send it over 👍
Thank you very much, appreciate you watching and taking time to comment. As for navigation, yes we use our watches (Garmin Enduro 2) with GPX files. Brilliant technology!
Thanks Mark, maybe they didn’t visit the checkpoints as they were slightly off course. Many had crews so could have resupplied on route. Even though CP9 isn’t listed for us we didn’t indeed visit it (got video evidence 😂)
Hi, we usually use GPX files on our watches for navigation. This particular ultra isn’t marked so you have to rely on self navigation, either via GPX or a map. It’s a great event though 👍
Fantastic by both 👏🏻
Thank you Andrew 😊

@@TrailRunningCouple Thank you, I definitely plan to. Good luck on your Lakes Ultra. Looking forward to your next video! 👍😁👍
Awesome effort guys! Congratulations on 1st lady!
I see you carried poles, did you use them at all?
Thank you very much! No, didn’t use poles but carried all our kit as we used it as a training run for Lakeland 100 a couple of months later. That said, they were there if we needed them but the course was pretty flat 👍
@@TrailRunningCouple thank you, I've watched the Lakeland 100 video, you did very on that as well and crazy to want to do it again 😂😂
Thank you! During I didn’t want to do it again but the day after it had to be done. There’s just something about it. A fantastic weekend 👍
Amazing effort 🔥. Do you have a website detailing the kit you carry and use, or recommended kit etc.
Hi, thank you 😊
We don’t have a website but kit wise we kind of know what we want.
Oooo did relise it was you haha lol
Bot started editing mine haha
We probably should have said hi, we were stood near you before the start. Think you were talking to Tracy. Saw you on the way back down from CP4 too 👍 Looking forward to your account of it and well done on your finish 😊
@@TrailRunningCouple thank you, what your next one x
@@runstretchsucceed Kong Lakes Ultra in 3 weeks and then it’s Lakeland 100. That’s going to be horrible. Really worried about it 😂
Is you lakeland hope not and at least abit training in know i know injury full healed x
@@runstretchsucceed Good luck Andrew and see you there 👍
Hi you amazing humans.
Thank you so much Olga, again, really appreciated 😊
We started eating well but soon slowed down due to the heat and distance.
Cheryl loved that you agree with her wet nettle theory though I still need convincing 😂
Our watches are Garmin Enduro 2’s which were navigating for the whole 23hrs and 41mins and used 42% of battery life so still another 58% left.
Fantastic video, I see you both had poles packed, did you use them?
No, we didn’t use them. Just carried full kit as we had Lakeland 100 a few months later. Always good training that way. Thank you 👍
Great job!!!! What problems did the Lone Peaks cause in the other race?
Thank you 😊
The Lone Peaks were brilliant for around 85 miles.
GB Ultras do have a GPX file though we tidied it up a little so if you need it let us know and we’ll send it over 👍
great achievement, massive well done , how do you not get lost on the entire route do you have route on gps?
Thank you very much, appreciate you watching and taking time to comment. As for navigation, yes we use our watches (Garmin Enduro 2) with GPX files. Brilliant technology!
awesome been watching your other races so great the progress you making @@TrailRunningCouple
What happened to all those runners that finished ahead of you with no times at CP7&8?
Great running as usual 💪
Thanks Mark, maybe they didn’t visit the checkpoints as they were slightly off course. Many had crews so could have resupplied on route. Even though CP9 isn’t listed for us we didn’t indeed visit it (got video evidence 😂)
Hi I really interested in doing an ultra do you navigate them with a map or is it clearly sign posted
Hi, we usually use GPX files on our watches for navigation. This particular ultra isn’t marked so you have to rely on self navigation, either via GPX or a map. It’s a great event though 👍
