As a model rairoader in the U.S., your processes are not only good, your videos are top notch. The time lapse is nice so we're not waiting 20 minutes to see the next step, the dialog recorded seperate as commentary is the way it should be done as it is nice, clear, good volume level. Well done sir!
I'm 12 and started to build diorama because I saw you and Luke towen an you both are amazing if you just wanna watch some amazing build watch Luke and if you wanna watch a amazing build and talk truth and tutorial geek is the man. I just bought some stuff for like 150 dollars from your shop totally worth my savings. Thanks a lot for the vid keep up the AMAZING work!
Being a newbie every little bit helps thank you
I recently started a Resin Geode stand up piece and was wanting to have a hollow centre. I watched a few resin geode uploads, none had the finish I was after, namely somewhat realistic. That is, until I found this gem of an upload. Thanks heaps for explaining it in such a way that it's possible to get what I'm attempting to achieve
This is exactly the info I was looking for (without even knowing what exactly I was looking for) to build 40k dioramas. I just ordered some rock molds, plaster of Paris, a hot wire cutter, and some polystyrene boards last night!
A light bulb came on at the end of this video for me. I kept wondering how you used cork to stick things together, finally tweaked to the accent, caulk! Divided by the barrier of a common language as Churchill famously said. LOL, thanks for the great video, the loose top Stone application and glue down method was a huge win for me.
Outstanding. Can't wait for the rest of the project :)
Always amazing stuff! Would love to see a vid just on all the uses of iso.
Recently found your channel. Amazing work shows just how simple this really is
Love the giggle I had about Luke saying his caulk was thick and grabs everything. Then he talked about caulk squirting.
Yeah even at 42 this woman still had a bit of her juvenile humour intact.
Thank you for sharing your incredible talent! Your narration is just the right tone!!!
Excellent vid mate! Really helpful tips and techniques thanks. Looking forward to seeing more.
Cheers
Keith
Thanks luck top work realy impressed with the upgrade to the studio very Smooth now.
Awesome. Great vid mate. Nice tips mate.
More please! My boys love watching these then getting me to build bits for them
this has gave me a massive idea and loads of help to me when i do and build my diorama.
Love these video series! Great work my friend! :)
Just discovered your videos, Luke. Thank you so much for taking the time and lending your expertise. I'm working on a modular terrain tile project using MDF/Styrofoam ( I get a large supply of XPS free from work) for RPG terrain.I found you right on time! ;)Subscribed and looking forward to watching your other videos. Thanks again!
Great vid. Super helpful.
Definitely got my vote for a possible frozen or lightly frozen pond how to ;D!
Awesome loved the plain talking.
Just got back from spending the holiday with my family and catching up with videos, so I need to watch parts 2 and 3, but so far its shaping up nicely. I don't know if you've ever thought of it, but chunks of pine bark (like you'd get for landscaping) make amazing rocks and its an easy material to work with; just a thought for the future if you do another diorama board and feel like adding things in. Looking forward to the other installments!
Well made bro going to be trying this on the weekend ✌️
Real nice and easy cheers mate
Thank you , this video is going to help me with my nativity scene 👌🏼
Great this really helped me with my middle earth board. thanks Luke
Great video! Thanks so much!
Hi Luke, I use an old credit card (hotel room keycard) to apply the filler , usually when I want a smooth surface like concrete.
Thanks for your effort. Always useful contents and good tips on your videos.
I'm a beginner and you are really good thanks for the vid.
Wonderful video. Thank you
Good to know isopropanol works better than flow aid, makes sense since it's an alcohol and from my experience as an artist, alcohol based inks always soak through paper way more than water based ones.
Please bring the Rock mold videos! would love to see your approach on rocks making/shaping, your videos are amazing btw
I've found using cheap foam and coating it in San afterwards gives a quality effect after dry brushing, not diorama standard for gaming its quality
Short and sweet sir.. thank you muchly.. now..when I get the space, I know how to do a 2 metre long rock face leading from a river.
Now to see the snow!!!
Luke! Great series this! A quick question if I may: can you remember which Woodland Scenics rock moulds you used for the diorama?
Looks great
Superb video
Quick and easy dio..... I'm hoping for rainbows and some awesome metal oh and tiger riding.....there better be tigers...
Really nice tutorial. Thanks for the tip on using isopropyl. Laughed my ass off with your comment " I take it you are an American" Yes over here they would have you wear a full hazmat suit just to build and paint a model. Fall asleep just reading all the warning labels.
Love your videos and was curious on what your filler was? Is it plaster? Do it adhere to foam well?
As well I have a tough time getting the cheaper, even harder foam to adhere to one another. What adhesive would you recommend?
What would you cover & paint the plaster with if you were going to use it outside? I'd like to make some retaining walls and cover the sides like a retaining wall with the molds and paint it.
Which size rock mold is that? I'm looking at getting into the woodland scenics molds for my home set up/terrain making, but I'm having a hard time judging the scale of the various rock molds available - these are a great scale for terrain projects though - any help is appreciated.
@Lukes Aps Did you make that foam cutter or buy it from somewhere?
Cheers Luke .
Great video! I'm curious about your hot wire foam cutter, couldn't find anything like it on the web, even in your store. Thanks!
After using a torch and heating the top of the foam will it melt the surface enough to seal it for resin water effects, or would you still have to use mod-podge
would you give any cheaper alternatives to those rock molds?
Nice tutorial
Great video.
Hay luke What hot wire cutter are you using in thins?
What's a good alternative for Fat Hog Filler that's available in the US?
If you put a little paint in your filler you can see any uncovered polystyrene a lot easier
very nice
Luke just place it outside and let natural snow fall on it or come to Scotland an d we can sell you bags of it!
Atholl McNicoll he would have to put it in his freezer and it would take to much space 😅
super début!!
What type/brand of foam wire cutter do you use in this video? Thanks
Saw the title and immediately started thinking of rainbows in the dark and riding tigers that are clean.
Do you have a cheaper alternative to Woodland Scenics? I don't fancy spending £20 for 5 pieces of plaster.
hay luke mate just helping you out with your spelling there you have LukesAps Product coad is should be code not coad so it should go like this LukesAps product code love the video's mate been working on more bases at the moment so i haven't forgot to send any out yet till have have some of the new sets finished as i'm hoping till have the sets already for the new year keep up the good work wish i had time to get my miniature youtube channel going but my other channel has started to take off so been doing more video's for that one at the moment
The mark of a successful video is when it ends, you end up jonesing for the next instalment
No dust or shite
trying to use your techniques on my taxidermy bases.
Hey dude...I dunno what foam to use...Can you help me please ?
Where do you get the pink insulation foam from I can't get it from anywhere up in Newcastle
Lukes Aps have ended up with polystyrene to mate would love to try the pink insulation foam thou
Great proyect! Thank you! Can you tell me wath material is the filler
Lukes Aps thanks!
@@GeekGamingScenics How thick can you go with that stuff? Is it the same as Joint Compound, like they use for the gaps in drywall?
what did you use for the base material? like what it is glued to - how much did you spend ? MDF or something?
Cheers thanks man
Hey lukas, any advice on making Astrogranit debris paint?
Lukes Aps hmmm that could work. Not sure how to get the clumping right but I'll give it a shot. Thanks much man.
Hi Luke, great video as always, I'm a new subscriber.
I stuck with thiner sheets of polystyrene. Can I ask what you would use to glue these sheets together bearing in mind the usage of a hot wire. I have experimented with a few things before but the hot wire has trouble going through the dried glue or just stick with cocktail sticks as you mentioned. Also what is 'cork' filler & where would I find some. Learning a lot , thanks :)
@@GeekGamingScenics OK thanks mate, what about sticking foam together that can be hot wire friendly?
@@GeekGamingScenics Luke Can I also ask the painting of rocks in part 2 is a method you still use?
@@GeekGamingScenics thanks for your help
Where can you purchase isopropinol from?
Haven't been able to find the stuff anywhere
Or, depending on how much you need, just go to a store; its just rubbing alcohol.
Are you from Sheffield
One of the first
Great stuff. BUT - just to say, burnt polystyrene releases CYANIDE among other very unpleasant by - products (that includes with a hot wire cutter). Important to be well ventilated. Also, when it is sanded, saw-cut and broken, it releases microscopic little hooks into the air that will get into your lungs. It really is very unpleasant stuff. Be safe - all best wishes.
Is there a market to sell these or are you simply teaching so that ppl can make their own? I'd love to make these for sale but worried there won't be any kind of market for them. Your thoughts????
People do buy these on EBay as most people dont know how to make them. Iv sold them before but iv never done them on commission.
I'm not british, so I hope that'll excuse my silly question somewhat: What is filler made of? And what is it used for? We probably have the same product in Denmark, but I never seen it before so I haven't a clue where to locate it.
Ooooh, I see. Thanks a million.
Spackle in merica
Are your rocks hobby shop brought or just building supplies?
Lukes Aps sorry i ment the scatter rocks/rubble. They look too clean to be building supplies
Lukes Aps ah of course...>>> to the pet shop.
You and Luke Towan deserve way more subs than you both have
Jeff Vader i know right they are legends of shared knowledge
Can I ask which specific WS rock molds you used for this?
@@GeekGamingScenics thanks chief, gonna buy these today so just wanted to double check.
@@GeekGamingScenics looks like potentially the Random Rocks mould 'C1234'
Where'd you get that wire cutter?
Lukes Aps Cheers!
what do you have for iso? i live in Israel and its hard to get Iso. is 95% alcohol good enough for Iso?
lol. the 95% is cheaper than vodka in israel. thanks for the info. i have a d-day build coming up soon where these vids will be useful to me.
Kind of a noob to this (complete noob) would sheetrock filler work for that, or is that basically the same thing as the all purpose filler? Also, what % iso? Sorry for the dumb question, just really have no idea what's what with this exactly yet...
Anyone have experience in using rock moulds of a more tight circle type if terrain? Ita incredably awkward for me.
Is there a part three?
Lukes Aps awesome! Loving your channel keep it up.
Hi Luke. Bloody brilliant tutorials mate.
Got a question for you...
You don't happen to know what type of totally clear resin or similar that you could use for an underwater diorama do ya?
To do something similar to this... What do you think? pin.it/ex6gsyvjn5c7su
I know you did a tute using 007 crystal.. but would that do the job?
Cheers mate.
Lukes Aps Great! thanks mate.
How about some safety trips with BURNING styrofoam with a creme brulee torch what is wrong with you!!!
did your ears go back to normal?
lol
Step by step with plans from the Stodoys site you can do something like that
I have got to say those hoops in your ears are very disturbing
