This looks great Luke! Solid day of work. The room full of helpers probably made up a bit for being away from your workshop. I've gotta find a room full of goobers to help me with stuff!
It looked really good. I am building a WWI casualty clearing station set in 1917. It's a railway layout and I have learned lots of new skills which is the appeal for me.
This is an mint idea lad. Imagine doing this at a big convention with loads of people there. Perfect way to show off and advertise your range and what you started it for. Keep up the good work mate youre really helping the miniature scene!
Great video dude! Taking this concept (Maybe not quite as large) to conventions and building a board over the course of a day while someone else is on the stand next to you selling the products you're using would be very cool. It's eye catching, it prompts conversation, it's an excellent showcase of the product, and it's something different than what you usually see at conventions!
Yeah, I totally get the whole working away from home thing. There's a local convention that I have a stall at every year, and I basically paint, display my work, and answer people's questions and all that. There was ton of little things I forget cause I don't think I'll need them, then suddenly realise that I'm without them just as they are necessary. Luckily the convention is held about 15mins drive from home, so I can usually get so done to drive to mine and pick them up, or mind the stall why I go get them myself.
Great work Luke, and thanks so much for being at the weekender. Great to meet you and was fantastic to watch you work. Looking forward to the next one!
Can't believe this was a year and a half ago.....seems odd seeing all thouse people in close proximity without a care in the world. Fun times helping out on this build!
One Year later and I am gratefull that you did that video. I am planning on building a small southern coast-village for a 1/43 Racing-Game and you did give me alot of ideas how to actually get the Scene alive and after all, you gave me a really awesome tutorial on how to do it better than my way (I allready build Warhammer Fantasy Tables a couple of years ago, but now I want to do it a lot prettier!) So... Thanks a lot, mate! You really helped me with this video and all the other videos of your channel (not all yet, but I am working on it ;) )
I like that you show how to make things quick and cheap which is great but if that's all you're goal is then it really take the love and passion out of this hobby and makes it a business which i know it is for you but not most of us.
Have you ever tried using hot mud as your compound? You can mix pretty much anything you need into it for texture and it sets up quickly. You just mix small batches at a time so you don't get too much waste. It will save you a ton of time waiting for things to dry. We used to mix paper pulp, baby powder, crushed shells, sand, Styrofoam beads and paint right into the mud. Fresco terrains. :) It does get hot while curing. Not blister burns hot, just hot. EDIT: Oh, and never try to temper it (add more water) once it's mixed. Make sure each batch you mix is in a clean container. Just one small amount of remaining hot mud can cause a fresh batch to go off almost immediately, ruining the batch.
I spent 2015 through January of this year with my "studio" essentially being a footlocker. Paint, tools, lamp, extension cord, whatever project I was working on at the time. When you work out of a foot locker, you learn what you need to bring to these type of projects. Even now with a proper work bench, I'll go to work on models at the game store and have everything I need to build, prime, paint, and base a model. Great build though and very motivating!
Every reason to be happy with that result mate, great work. It's truly awful working away from all your home kit. I've got most of the stuff I need to start building my 40k board, will be ordering some of your stuff in coming months to use on it for sure. Great stuff.
I can see a tv show doing this sort of thing being popular. Everything else has had it done it's time for terrain to go mainstream. Make it happen luke, you can do it.
Nice build especially for how quick it came together! Maybe a broken down wagon or other ruined farm litter around the house could really sell the scene.
Can’t believe I missed this video, I was waiting ages to see this table and event, but thought no one recorded it. Amazing work and team effort. Really wish I could of been there.
Lukes Aps.Think I’d be too scared to help in case I mess up your hard work at the last minute. Also I’m certain it’s me birds birthday that weekend. Supposes I could dump her and get you to build me a new one out of foam or something. Go easy with the static grass though I don’t want one too hairy 👍🏻
Amazing work Luke! Now for a question/suggestion, that possibly will move you out more out of your comfort zone :) How about making some 6mm terrain tips and tricks? The landscaping is the same but forests and trees etc. Would be intressting to see what ideas you have on it :)
@@GeekGamingScenics Can the basic siwing (don't know how it's spelled in english :o) on the board be the way to go? Maybe some way to make tufts be like readymade bushes, kinda like how they make the flower tufts but with really small clump foliage on em, just throwing out ideas :o I'm going to build a ACW board this summer in 6mm so just looking for ideas and inspiration.
This is the second video I've watched of yours, love how you do things..make it look easy and enjoyable to watch, plus inspiring to crack on and do things..will be looking to buy some of your products ..
This board was made for the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game by the company called Games Workshop. Just Google it to find out more, its a great game, if you like Lord of the Rings. :)
Board looks amazing. Truly great work. Not sure about the "Quick" in the title. 14 hours with that team of guys works out to about a weeks worth of work, at least.
That moment when you just come back from a 3 months internship in Stockport as a foreign Student , and it's just when you get back home you learn you've been working next to Element Games for the past 3 bloody months ! :')
Even if you break this down into two days and spend a bit more time on the trees it would be very possible to get a table like this in two days ( a weekend ) and if you had a friend or two come by might be a good way to spend a off weekend if your not gaming that weekend .
Love this build! I was going to ask though if you could suggest how to build something like a mine which can be played. Maybe cutting out the tunnels from foam and then having nothing above so you can see into the tunnels?
Hope you are going to film some more footage like this at the next weekender. It would be great to see some of the finished pieces of the people that signed up for your mini board builds class. Can I ask what did you use for the paths on this build ? Cheers 👍🏻
If you study the original maps from Tolkien's Lord Of the Rings, you will find that they have a close resembalance to trench maps of the area of the Somme in 1916. Tolkien only served about 7 weeks in the front line before being evacutaed for Trench Fever. He never returned. But if you know of his service a numbr of anomalies in Lord of The Rings make more sense.
i don't understand very well the english, sorry for that. with your spray gun what you spray on the table? something for the grass i think. thank you for create this channel
If you are play in doing another 1 day board, would you consider live streaming it? I think that could be really cool to just dip into now and then and see how it's coming along!
I'm curious as to what 'setting it afire' was for. I was hoping you'd cover that. Am I right in thinking you took a blowtorch to the polystyrene to seal it and smooth it off?
@@GeekGamingScenics I'm intrigued by this now. Have you done a video covering this technique? If not, I'd love to know more about it. I've worked with polystyrene sheets but I've never torched it.
Considering how long a board normally takes to make, that looks amazing. Well done Luke, you're a star.
Love the paintwork on the rocks. Really high quality, particularly for a quick job.

A weeks work compressed in a long day 😸 5:55 burn the foam! Hot air gun works wonders 🔥
I love that simple hut. Very simple design but beautiful none the less. Sometimes the simple things make the biggest difference.

Very nice especially for a 1 day build. Great details.
Outstanding board Luke! If you are throwing the trees away I'll 'ave 'em!
It's cracking bud, especially for a one day build. I don't think the trees were that terrible, great for a gaming board.
Awesome work :)
Wow, that's stunning for a one-day build. Very impressive tabletop!
Looked great man. It's cool seeing ya out in the wild and such. Rock on!
Awesome work, good job you had some help ha ha The trees work for the fantasy setting

Great video! I love how honest you are hahaha drinking and building terrain is fun
Really nice job! and even more points to you for getting such a good result while being hangover! ^^
Mate, not gonna lie, this has made me wanna give it a go myself. Live next to a big B&Q so might just have a go.
Fantastic work Luke! Looks better than some folks month long builds. Great inspiration. Cheers.
Looks great. Fantastic job in 14 hours.
Awesome video, terrific table, and in 14 hours while drinking! Love this channel! Cheers 🍻
That is next level. Seriously impressive. Can you go into detail regarding the actual glue, flock mix etc that you use?

Cheap, quick...and gorgeous!!👍👍
This makes me so happy 😂 I love scenic boards. Would have loved to have attended the weekender but work :l Hopefully next year!

That's some great one day build mate! awsome. Hahaha making trees while you've been drinking, been there too, you are a brave man :)
You should (if you can) do a follow-up to this. Get some footage of how well the board has held up over the time since you built it.
Could someone please tell me. For what games would you use something like this for?

You come a long way from 4 years ago. Kudos
Do you have a link or name of the white powder you used to fill the gap?
I don't even mind those trees, in the setting they are a little out of place but in more a mirkwood/ dying wood they wouldn't be.
Nice table but, what happened to the setting it on fire. Did you skip that step or just edit it out?
This looks great! I really wanna make one and I don't even play any tabletop games!
Congratulations great job Luke it looks amazing. I hope one day I can be half as good as you and hope you took plenty of that malty tea with you 😂
Are you going to bring your stuff to Australia cause we need it to
